• Dynamically created operators

  I created a program using dev-cpp and wxwidgets which solves a puzzle. The user must fill the operations blocks and the results blocks, and the program will solve it. Im solving it using bruteforce, i generate all non repeated 9 length number combinations using a recursive algorithm. It does it pretty fast. Up to here all is great! But the problem is when my program operates depending the character on the blocks. Its extremely slow (it never gets the answer), because of the chars comparation against +, -, *, etc. Im doing a CASE. Is there some way or some programming language wich allows dinamic creation of operators? So i can define the operator ROW1COL2 to be a +, and the same way to all other operations. • Tinyurl API Example - Am i doing it right :D

  Hi ... we use super-long Hashes for the Registration of new Users in our Application. The Problem is that these Hashes break in some Email Clients - making the Links unusable. I tried implementing the Tinyurl - API, with a simple Call, but i think it times out sometimes ... sometimes the mail does not reach the user. I updated the Code, but now the URL is never converted. Is Tinyurl really so slow or am i doing something wrong? (I mean hey, 5 Seconds is much in this Times) Can anybody recommend me a more reliable service? All my Fault, forgot a false in the fopen. But i will leave this sample of code here, because i often see this sample, wich i think does not work very reliable: return file_get_contents('http://tinyurl.com/api-create.php?url='.$u); This is the - i think fully working sample.   Hi. I have a project in wich I must create a form editor (just like infopath) using wpf. For this I thought to use a RichTextBox and in there I would place InlineUIElements with the different controls (TextBox, ComboBox, etc.). The problem is that I can't change some properties associated with those controls. Here's some XAML: <RichTextBox> <FlowDocument> <Paragraph> <InlineUIContainer> <TextBox Background="Red">Some Text</TextBox> </InlineUIContainer> </Paragraph> </FlowDocument> </RichTextBox> This displays a TextBox in a RichTextBox just like I wanted but it's not red. Some other properties work like width and height. Why is this and how can I make it work? Other question is: Am I approaching the problem (creating the form editor) right? Thanks

• PHP-REGEX: accented letters matches non-accented ones, and visceversa. How to achive it?

  I want to do the typical higlight code. So I have something like: $valor = preg_replace("/(".$_REQUEST['txt_search'].")/iu", "<span style='background-color:yellow; font-weight:bold;'>\\1</span>", $valor); Now, the request word could be something like "josé". And with it, I want "jose" or "JOSÉ" or "José" or ... highlighted too. With this expression, if I write "josé", it matches "josé" and "JOSÉ" (and all the case variants). It always matches the accented variants only. If I search "jose", it matches "JOSE", "jose", "Jose"... but not the accented ones. So I've partially what I want, cause I have case insensitive on accented and non-accented separately. I need it fully combined, wich means accent (unicode) insensitive, so I can search "jose", and highlight "josé", "josÉ", "José", "JOSE", "JOSÉ", "JoSé", ... I don't want to do a replace of accents on the word, cause when I print it on screen I need to see the real word as it comes. Any ideas? Thanks!

  Ahoy hoy everyone :) Here is a list of links. You will need it when reading the post. I am a newbie to Objective-C and try to learn it for iPhone-App-Development. I used the tutorial linked in the link list to create a standard app with a simple basic Navigation. This app contains a "RootView" that is displayed at startup. The startup screen itself contains three elements wich all link to SubViewOne. I have got it to work this far. So what i want to change is to make the second element link to SubViewTwo. • Why doesn't my Unity DependencyResolver work on shared hosting but works locally?

  I'm trying to deploy ASP.NET MVC 3 application wich uses Unity as a IoC container. Application works fine on local server, but when deployed it throws an exception: No parameterless constructor defined for this object. And this is thrown for a controller that should get some repository injected by my Unity DependencyResolver. I've installed Unity with NuGet so it should be referenced directly, and I've checked that it gets copied to bin folder. • Has form post behavior changed in modern browsers? (or How are double clicks handled by the browser)

  Background: We are in the process of writing a registration/payment page, and our philosophy was to code all validation and error checking on the server side first, and then add client side validation as a second step (un-obstructive jQuery). We wanted to disable double clicks server side, so we wrote some locking, thread-safe code to handle simultaneous posts/race conditions. When we tried to test this, we realized that we could not cause a simultaneous post or race condition to occur. I thought that (in older browsers anyway) double clicking a submit button worked as follows: User double clicks submit button. Browser sends a post on the first click On the second click, browser cancels/ignores initial post, and initiates a second post (before the first post has returned with a response). Browser waits for second post to return, ignoring initial post response. I thought that from the server side it looked like this: Server gets two simultaneous post requests, executes and responds to them both (unaware that no one is listening to the first response). From our testing (FireFox 3.0, IE 8.0) this is what actually happens: User double clicks submit button Browser sends a post for the first click Browser queues up second click, but waits for the response from the first click. Response returns from first click (response is ignored?). Browser sends a post for the second click. So from a server side: Server receives a single post which it executes and responds to. Then, server receives a second request wich it executes and responds to. My question is, has this always worked this way (and I'm losing my mind)? Or is this a new feature in modern browsers that prevents simultaneous posts to be sent to the server? It seems that for server side double click prevention, we don't have to worry about simultaneous posts or race conditions. Only need to worry about queued up posts. • Visual Studio 2008 Setup Project - Include .NET Framework 3.5

  I built a Visual Studio 2008 setup Project wich depends on .NET 3.5. I added Prerequisites like: .NET 3.5, Microsoft office interoperability, VS tools for office System 3.0 Run time, .etc. After that Selected "Download Prerequisite from Same location as my application" in Specify install location for Prerequisite. I Built the setup and found mysetup.msi in Release directory. In a new machine I started fresh installation of my application. A dialog shows like this "This Setup Requires .NET framework 3.5 , Please install .NET setup then run this setup, .NET Framework can be obtained from web Do you want to do that now?" it gives "Yes" and "No" option - if I press yes it goes to Microsoft website. How can avoid it? I wanted setup take .NET Framework to be installed from same location where I put all setup files including mysetup.msi? In case of quiet installation cmd /c "msiexec /package mysetup.msi /quiet /log install.log" ..in log I can see only half way through installation then error Property(S): HideFatalErrorForm = TRUE MSI (s) (D0:24) [00:07:08:015]: Product: my product-- Installation failed. === Logging stopped: 3/23/2010 0:07:08 === How can complete I the installation without user intervention and without error using VS2008 setup project? • A linked list with multiple heads in Java

  Hi, I have a list in which I'd like to keep several head pointers. I've tried to create multiple ListIterators on the same list but this forbid me to add new elements in my list... (see Concurrent Modification exception). • MongoDB in Go (golang) with mgo: How do I update a record, find out if update was successful and get the data in a single atomic operation?

  I am using mgo driver for MongoDB under Go. My application asks for a task (with just a record select in Mongo from a collection called "jobs") and then registers itself as an asignee to complete that task (an update to that same "job" record, setting itself as assignee). The program will be running on several machines, all talking to the same Mongo. When my program lists the available tasks and then picks one, other instances might have already obtained that assignment, and the current assignment would have failed. How can I get sure that the record I read and then update does or does not have a certain value (in this case, an assignee) at the time of being updated? I am trying to get one assignment, no matter wich one, so I think I should first select a pending task and try to assign it, keeping it just in the case the updating was successful. So, my query should be something like: "From all records on collection 'jobs', update just one that has asignee=null, setting my ID as the assignee. Then, give me that record so I could run the job." How could I express that with mgo driver for Go?

• iOS LocationManager is not updating location (Titanium Appcelerator module)

  I've made Appcelerator Titanium Module for fetching device's rotaion and location. Source can be found on GitHub. The problem is that it fetches only one cached location but device motion data is OK and it is refreshing. I don't use delegate, I pull that data in my Titanium Javascript Code. If I set "City Run" in Simulator - Debug - Location nothing happens. The same cached location is returning. Pulling of location is OK because I tried with native app wich does this: textView.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f %f\n%@", locationManager.location.coordinate.longitude, locationManager.location.coordinate.latitude, textView.text]; And it is working in simulator and on device. But the same code as you can see on GitHub is not working as Titanium module. Any ideas? EDIT: I am looking at GeolocationModule src and I see nothing special there. As I said, my code in my module has to work since it is working in native app. "Only" problem is that it is not updating location and it always returns me that cached location.

  Ok, so I have a class for a "Advanced Data Structure" (in this case a kinda tree) SO I implimented a Iterator as a private class with in it. So the iterator needs to implement a remove function to remove the last retuirned element. now my ADT already impliments a remove function, and in this case there is very little (thinking about it, i think nothing) to be gain by implimenting a different remove function for the iterator. so how do I go about calling the remove from my ADT sketch of my struture: public class ADT { ... private class ADT_Iterator impliments java.util.Itorator{ ... public void remove(){ //where I want to call the ADT's remove function from } ... public void remove( Object paramFoo ) { ... } ... } So just calling remove(FooInstance) won't work (will it?) and this.remove(FooInstance) is the same thing. what do i call? (and changign the name of the ADT's remove function is not an option, as that AD T has to meet an Interace wich I am note at liberty to change) I could make both of them call a removeHelper functon, I guess...

  Given the triangle with vertices (a,b,c): c / \ / \ / \ a - - - b Which is then subdivided into four triangles by halving each of the edges: c / \ / \ ca / \ bc /\ - - - /\ / \ / \ / \ / \ a- - - - ab - - - -b Wich results in four triangles (a, ab, ca), (b, bc, ab), (c, ca, bc), (ab, bc, ca). Now given a point p. How do I determine in which triangle p lies, given that p is within the outer triangle (a, b, c)? Currently I intend to use ab as the origin. Check whether it is to the left of right of the line "ca - ab" using the perp of "ca - ab" and checking the sign against the dot product of "ab - a" and the perp vector and the vector "p - ab". If it is the same or the dot product is zero then it must be in (a, ab, ca)... Continue with this procedure with the other outer triangles (b, ba, ab) & (c, ca, ba). In the end if it didn't match with these it must be contained within the inner triangle (ab, bc, ca). Is there a better way to do it?

• Truly declarative language?

  Hi all, Does anyone know of a truly declarative language? The behaviour I'm looking for is kind of what Excel does, where I can define variables and formulas, and have the formula's result change when the input changes (without having set the answer again myself) The behaviour I'm looking for is best shown with this pseudo code: X = 10 // define and assign two variables Y = 20; Z = X + Y // declare a formula that uses these two variables X = 50 // change one of the input variables ?Z // asking for Z should now give 70 (50 + 20) I've tried this in a lot of languages like F#, python, matlab etc, but every time i try this they come up with 30 instead of 70. Wich is correct from an imperative point of view, but i'm looking for a more declerative behaviour if you know what i mean. And this is just a very simple calculation. When things get more difficult it should handle stuff like recursion and memoization automagically. The code below would obviously work in C# but it's just so much code for the job, i'm looking for something a bit more to the point without all that 'technical noise' class BlaBla{ public int X {get;set;} // this used to be even worse before 3.0 public int Y {get;set;} public int Z {get{return X + Y;}} } static void main(){ BlaBla bla = new BlaBla(); bla.X = 10; bla.Y = 20; // can't define anything here bla.X = 50; // bit pointless here but I'll do it anyway. I prototyped a language/ application that does this (along with some other stuff) and am thinking of productizing it. I just can't believe it's not there yet. Don't want to waste my time. • Some clarification needed about synchronous versus asynchronous asio operations

  As far as I know, the main difference between synchronous and asynchronous operations. I.e. write() or read() vs async_write() and async_read() is that the former, don't return until the operation finish -or error-, and the last ones, returns inmediately. Due the fact that the asynchronous operations are controlled by an io_service.run() that does not finish until the controlled operations has finalized. It seems to me that in sequencial operations as those involved in TCP/IP connections with protocols such as POP3, in which the operaton is a sequence such as: C: <connect> S: Ok. C: User... S: Ok. C: Password S: Ok. C: Command S: answer C: Command S: answer ... C: bye S: <close> The difference between synchronous/asynchronous opperatons does not make much sense. Of course, in both operations there is allways the risk that the program flow stops indefinitely by some circunstance -there the use of timers-, but I would like know some more authorized opinions in this matter. I must admit that the question is rather ill-defined, but I like hear some advices about when use one or other, because I've problems in debugging with MS Visual Studio, asynchronous SSL operations in a POP3 client in wich I'm working now -about some of who surely I would write here soon-, and sometimes think that perhaps is a bad idea use asynchronous in this. Not to say that I'm an absolute newbie with this librarys, that additionally to the difficult with the idioma, and some obscure concepts in the STL, must suffer the brevity of the asio documentation.

• Checking whether images loaded after page load

  Determining whether an image has loaded reliably seems to be one of the great JavaScript mysteries. I have tried various scripts/script libraries which check the onload and onerror events but I have had mixed and unreliable results. Can I reliably just check the complete property (IE 6-8 and Firefox) as I have done in the script below? I simply have a page wich lists out servers and I link to an on.gif on each server. If it doesn't load I just want to load an off.gif instead. • How to not cache a php file where a cachemanifest is beeing called?

  Hi, i'm building a iphone app with jqtouch and i use a cachemanifest to cache all the static files (images, css, javascript) to make it load faster. However the page uses php for the dynamic content and i don't want to cache that. "\n"; ?> This actually works really good except for one irritating thing: From what i read somewhere the file that calls the cachemanifest is automaticly included in the manifest and is beeing cached. Wich means that my start-page index.php, where i call the cachemanifest is beeing cached. This leads to very irritating problems. is there any way to deal with this or any smart workaround? The page is in the cachemanifest listed as NETWORK, but it looks like this is beeing overruled by the fact that the cachemanifest is called from the file.

• Function parameters evaluation order: is undefined behaviour if we pass reference?

  This is undefined behaviour: void feedMeValue(int x, int a) { cout << x << " " << a << endl; } int main() { int a = 2; int &ra = a; feedMeValue(ra = 3, a); return 0; } because depending on what parameter gets evaluated first we could call (3, 2) or (3, 3). However this: void feedMeReference(int x, int const &ref) { cout << x << " " << ref << endl; } int main() { int a = 2; int &ra = a; feedMeReference(ra = 3, a); return 0; } will always output 3 3 since the second parameter is a reference and all parameters have been evaluated before the function call, so even if the second parameter is evaluated before of after ra = 3, the function received a reference to a wich will have a value of 2 or 3 at the time of the evaluation, but will always have the value 3 at the time of the function call. Is the second example UB? It is important to know because the compiler is free to do anything if he detects undefined behaviour, even if I know it would always yield the same results. *Note: I think that feedMeReference(a = 3, a) is the exact same situation as feedMeReference(ra = 3, a). However it seems not everybody agrees, in the addition to having 2 completely different answers.

• Am I a discoverer of a bug in the WPF engine?

  We have a MFC 8 application compiled with /CLR that contains a larger amount of Windows Forms UserControls wich again contain WPF user controls using ElementHost. Due to the architecture of our software we can not use HwndHost directly. We observed an extremely strange behavior here that we can not make any sense of: When the CPU load is very high during startup of the application and there are a lot live of ElementHost instances, the whole property engine completely stops working. For example animations that usually just work fine now never update the values of the bound properties, they just stay at some random value after startup. When I set a property that is not bound to anything the value is correctly stored in the dependency property (calling the getter returns the new value) but the visual representation never reflects that. I set the background to red but the background color does not change. We tested this on a lot of different machines all running Windows XP SP2 and it is pretty reproducible. The funny thing here is, that there is in fact one situation where the bound properties actually pickup a new value from the animation and the visual gets updated based on the property values. It is when I resize the ElementHost or when I hide and reshow the parent native control. As soon as I do this, properties that are bound to an animation pickup a new value and the visuals rerender based on the new property values - but just once - if I want to see another update I have to resize the ElementHost. Do you have any explanation of what could be happening here or how I could approach this problem to find it out? What can I do to debug this? Is there a way I can get more information about what WPF actually does or where WPF might have crashed? To me it currently seems like a bug in WPF itself since it only happens at high CPU load at startup.

• SQL Server becomes slow after restart

  We use SQL Server 2005 on an Windwos Server 2008. Ther Server has 48 GB RAM. SQL Server is configured to use 40 GB RAM. There is only one database hosted (About 70 GB). The only app beside SQL Server is our App-Server which connects the clients to the database. Now we encounter the following problem: After a restart of the server our the performance is great. The server grabs the 40 GB RAM wich it is allowed to and then runs fast as hell. But after about 4 weeks the system becomes slower and slower. The execution of statements (seen in the profiler) is raising slowly. But I cannot see that there is something going wrong on the server. CPU usage is at about 20% I/O also seems to be no Problem The process monitor does also not show that there are strange apps or something like that. Eventlog does also have no interessting messages No open transactions or blockings to see We tried already the following things without effect: Droped the cache by using the statements DBCC FreeProcCache DBCC FREESYSTEMCACHE('ALL') DBCC DropCleanbuffers Restarted the Appserver we are using. Restart the sql server service But nothing did help exept restarting the whole server. Any ideas?

• JQuery error in IE, works with FF. Maybe a problem with live.

  Hello. I have an ASP.net MVC2 application. In wich I'm using JQuery to alter all table rows so I can click anywhere in any row to trigger a click event on a link in the clicked row. The tables is created using MVC's built in partialview ajax.   I'm trying to create a trip planner in python, but after I defined all the functions I'm not able to call and calculate them in the last function tripCost(). In tripCost, I want to put the days and travel destination (city) and the program runs the functions and gives me the exact result of all the 3 functions previously defined. • MFC/CCriticalSection: Simple lock situation hangs

  I have to program a simple threaded program with MFC/C++ for a uni assignment. Hence the locking stuff. The worker thread function is passed a pointer to the CCriticalSection object, which is a member of my dialog class. Everything works but, as soon as i do click on my list, and so triggers the handler function, the whole program hangs indefinitely.I tried using a Cmutex. I tried using a CSingleLock wrapping over the critical section object, and none of this has worked. What am i missing ?

• Hibernate not saving foreign key, but with junit it's ok

  Hi All, I have this strange problem. In a J2ee webapp with spring, smartgwt and hibernate, it happens that I have a class A wich has a set of class B, both of them mapped to table A and table B. I wrote a simple test case for testing the service manager which is supposed to do insert, update, delete and everything work as expected especially during insert. In the end I have one record in A and records in B with foreign key to A. But when I try to call the service from the web app, the entity in B are saved without a foreign key reference. I am sure that the service is the same. One thing I noticed is that enabling hibernate logging, seems that when the service is called from the application, one more update is made: insert A insert B update A update B update B (foreign key only) update A <--- ??? update B <--- ??? Instead, when junit test case is run, the update is as follows: insert A insert B update A update B update B (foreign key only) I suppose the latest update is what is causing the erroe, maybe it is overwriting values. Considering that the app is using spring, with the well known mechanism of DAO + Manager, where can I investigate to solve this issue ? Someone told me that the session is not closed, so hibernate would do one more update before release the objects by itself. I am pretty sure that all the configuration hbm, xml, and the rest are fine...but I maybe wrong. thanks

• Extjs - Loading Grid when call

  I have form and grid. the user must enter data in form fields then display related records in the grid. I want to implement a search form, e.g: user will type the name and gender of the student, then will get a grid of all students have the same name and gender. So, I use ajax to send form fields value to PHP and then creat a json_encode wich will be used in grid store. I am really not sure if my idea is good. But I haven't found another way to do that. The problem is when I set autoLoad to true in the store, the grid automatically filled with all data - not just what I asked for - So, I understand that I have to set autoLoad to false, but then the result not shown in the grid even it returned successfully in the firebug! I don't know what to do.
