  I'm trying to ammend a commit comment on a git commit, so I git commit --amend then vi opens with text from the last commit's comment. Then I delete all of the text on the first line, but I cannot remove the newline character, how can I do that?

  I wrote a setup script to install my prefered programs and settings after I got a new server. apt-get install git git clone http://[email protected] .vim ln -s .vimrc .vim/vimrc ... But if something wrong happens during setup, how can I interrupt the setup script, and log the error(s)? For example, if github server is down, it's obviously useless to create a symbolic link to non-existed vimrc. (or you have a better approach to initialize a server?)

• Ubuntu shutdown hook?

  I want to check 10+ local Git repositories if they have any unpushed commit, before shutdown. (I always forgot to push them, so later, the next morning I came office and back home again) I think maybe the shutdown process can check some conditions to meet, if any condition is not met, then give the user the choice to continue to shutdown or just cancel. Then, I can write something to hook the shutdown to check my Git repository to push.

  MySQL Enterprise Backup v3.8.2, a maintenance release of online MySQL backup tool, is now available for download from My Oracle Support  (MOS) website as our latest GA release.  It will also be available via the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud in approximately 1-2 weeks. A brief summary of the changes in MySQL Enterprise Backup version 3.8.2 is given below.   A. Functionality Added or Changed:  MySQL Enterprise Backup has a new --on-disk-full command line option. mysqlbackup could hang when the disk became full, rather than detecting the low space condition. mysqlbackup now monitors disk space when running backup commands, and users can now specify the action to take at a disk-full condition with the --on-disk-full option. For more details, refer this page MySQL Enterprise Backup has a new progress report feature, which periodically outputs short progress indicators on its  operations to user-selected destinations (for example, stdout, stderr, a file, or other choices). For more details on progress report options, refer here   B. Bugs Fixed: When --innodb-file-per-table=ON, if a table was renamed and backup-to-image was in progress, apply-log would fail when being run on the backup. (Bug #16903973)   MySQL Server failed to start after a backup was restored if  there had been online DDL transactions on partitioned tables during the time of backup. (Bug #16924499)   apply-log failed if ALTER TABLE ... REORGANIZE PARTITION was applied to partitioned InnoDB tables during backup. (Bug #16721824, Bug #16903951)  apply-incremental-backup might fail with an assertion error if  the InnoDB tables being backed up were created in Barracuda format and with their KEY_BLOCK_SIZE  values  different from the innodb_page_size . This fix ensures that different KEY_BLOCK_SIZE  values are handled properly during incremental backup and apply-incremental-backup operations.  If a table was renamed following a full backup, a subsequent incremental backup could copy the .frm file with the new name, but not the associated .ibd file with the new name. After a  restore, the InnoDB data dictionary could be in an  inconsistent state. This issue primarily occurred if the table  was not changed between the full backup and the subsequent  incremental backup. Bug #16262690)  After a full backup, if a table was renamed and modified,  apply-incremental-backup would crash when run on the backup directory. (Bug #16262609) The value of the binary log position in backup_variables.txt  could be different from the output displayed during the   backup-and-apply-log operation. (This issue did not occur if  the backup and apply-log steps were done separately.) (Bug  #16195529) When using the --only-innodb-with-frm option, MySQL Enterprise Backup tried to create temporary files at unintended locations in the file system, which might cause a failure when, for example, the user had no write privilege for those locations.   This fix makes sure the paths for the temporary files are  correct. (Bug #14787324)  A backup process might hang when it ran into an LSN mismatch between a data file  and the redo log. This fix makes sure the process does not hang and it displays an error message showing the  name of the problematic data file (Bug #14791645) Please post your questions / comments about Backup in forums.   I'm following a video tutorial where the author (who uses textmate) can open files by using "mate". for example mate .git/config will open this config file I'm using textwrangler however so I don't have that option. I did try edit .README once when i tried to open the README file of an application, but it opened a blank README file in textwrangler instead of the file with the text in it so any idea how I can open this .git/config file (or any other file) using textwrangler? I'm using Mac snow leopard

Do you know of any version control utility that can work with remote ssh repositories whichout installing anything on the remote server? I have tried a bare git repository folder, but it seems to demand some script/binary/installation on the server. I also dont like git because it is not very portable. I compiled this gem locally from a github branch since the main version seems to be broken in Rails 3. Or perhaps I am missing something else entirely.   Hello, I finished installation of PHPUnit, it works but I don't get a code coverage report. I'm working on windows. But I installed it (version 2.0.5)! phpinfo() says I installed it, also var_dump(extension_loaded('xdebug')) I get true. I installed it as Zend Extension and I tried also as normal extension. Bot worked, but PHPUnit says everytime Xdebug is not loaded!

There are hundreds of thousands of nearby points which to what I can tell, are being indexed by Sphinx, but simply fails silently when searching with Sphinx.   I'm revising past midterms for a final exam this week and am trying to make sense of a solution my professor posted for one of past exams. (You can see the original pdf here, question #6). I'm given the original recurrence relation T(m)=3T(n/2) + n and am told T(1) = 1. I'm pretty sure the solution I've been given is wrong in a few places. The solution is as follows: Let n=2^m T(2^m) = 3T(2^(m-1)) + 2^m 3T(2^(m-1)) = 3^2*T(2^(m-2)) + 2^(m-1)*3 ... 3^(m-1)T(2) = T(1) + 2*3^(m-1) I'm pretty sure this last line is incorrect and they forgot to multiply T(1) by 3^m. He then (tries to) sum the expressions: T(2^m) = 1 + (2^m + 2^(m-1)*3 + ... + 2*3(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m(1 + (3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m((3/2)^m-1)*(1/2) = 1 + 3^m - 2^(m-1) = 1 + n^log 3 - n/2 Thus the algorithm is big Theta of (n^log 3). I'm pretty sure that he also got the summation wrong here. By my calculations this should be as follows: T(2^m) = 2^m + 3 * 2^(m-1) + 3^2 * 2^(m-2) + ... + 3^m (3^m because 3^m*T(1) = 3^m should be added, not 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^m) = 2^m * sum of (3/2)^i from i=0 to m = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(3/2 - 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(1/2) = 2^(m+1) * 3^(m+1)/2^(m+1) - 2^(m+1) = 3^(m+1) - 2 * 2^m Replacing n = 2^m, and from that m = log n T(n) = 3*3^(log n) - 2*n n is O(3^log n), thus the runtime is big Theta of (3^log n) Does this seem right?   My problem is this: I want to create a grails domain instance, defining the 'Many' instances of another domain that it has. Is it not possible to pass the Skills at construction time? There must be a way round this? I need a single form to allow a person to register but I want to normalise the data so that I can add more skills at a later time.   Hi, We are using Nlog as our logging framework and I cannot find a way to archive files the way I want. I would like to have the date of when the logging took place in the logging file name.   Hi, I'm having problems using the Grails bean-fields plugin with a class this is annotated Validateable, but is not a domain/command class. • Nunit test project won't compile under mono

  Question: I am implementing an OpenSource version of Microbosoft Sync framework, [http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...isplaylang=en] (Checkout: git clone [email protected]:quandary/SyncFramework.git) but I ran into a unittest problem. I added a nunit test-project to the C# project, but it's not compiling... I created the project on Windows, and there it compiled well. On Linux, the project compiles well, but compiling the unittest, I always get: Assembly 'nunit.framework, Version=2.5.5.10112, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=96d09 My problem now is I installed nunit and added a reference to it (on Linux with mono), but I still get this message, I take out 'require specific version', and I still get this message... I also removed the windows reference to nunit, but still no change.

• SendMessage to window created by AllocateHWND cause deadlock

  In my Delphi project, I derive a thread class TMyThread, and follow the advice from forums to use AllocateHWnd to create a window handle. In TMyThread object, I call SendMessage to send message to the window handle. When the messages sent are in small volume, then the application works well. However, when the messages are in large volume, the application will deadlock and lose responses. I think may be the message queue is full as in LogWndProc, there are only codes to process the message, but no codes to remove the messages from the queue, that may cause all the processed messages still exist in the queue and the queue becomes full. Is that correct? • Best practices for Java logging from multiple threads?

  I want to have a diagnostic log that is produced by several tasks managing data. These tasks may be in multiple threads. Each task needs to write an element (possibly with subelements) to the log; get in and get out quickly. If this were a single-task situation I'd use XMLStreamWriter as it seems like the best match for simplicity/functionality without having to hold a ballooning XML document in memory. But it's not a single-task situation, and I'm not sure how to best make sure this is "threadsafe", where "threadsafe" in this application means that each log element should be written to the log correctly and serially (one after the other and not interleaved in any way). Any suggestions? I have a vague intuition that the way to go is to use a queue of log elements (with each one able to be produced quickly: my application is busy doing real work that's performance-sensitive), and have a separate thread which handles the log elements and sends them to a file so the logging doesn't interrupt the producers. The logging doesn't necessarily have to be XML, but I do want it to be structured and machine-readable. edit: I put "threadsafe" in quotes. Log4j seems to be the obvious choice (new to me but old to the community), why reinvent the wheel...

  I'm working with core java and IBM Websphere MQ 6.0. We have a standalone module say DBcomponent that hits the database and fetches a resultset based on the runtime query. The query is passed to the application via MQ messaging medium. We have a trigger configured for the queue which invokes the DBComponent whenever a message is available in the queue. The DBComponent consumes the message, constructs the query and returns the resultset to another queue. In this overall process we use log4j to log statements on a log file for auditing. The connection is pooled to the database using Apache pool. I am trying to check whether the log messages are logged correctly using a sample program. The program places the input message to the queue and checks for the logs in the log file. Its expected for the trigger method invocation to complete before i try to check for the message in log file, but every time my program to check for log message gets executed first leading my check to failure. Even if i introduce a Thread.sleep(time) doesn't solves the case. How can i make it to keep my method execution waiting until the trigger operation completes? Any suggestion will be helpful.
