• JMS messaging implementation

  I've been struggling with this "simple" task for more expirienced people, I'm stuck for 2 days now need help. I've changed things arround like zillion times now, finally I stumbled upon this spring JMS tutorial. What I want to do, Send a message and receive it. I've been also reading this book chapter 8 on messaging. It really nicely explains 2 type of messaging and there is nice example for publish-and-subscribe type but now example for point-to-point messaging( this is the one I need). Once you’ve done this, methods on the MessageConsumer enable you to either query the Destination for messages or to register for message notification. Can somebody please direct me towards right direction, is there a tutorial which explains in details how to receive message from the queue?I have the working send message code, didn't post it here because this post is too long as it is.

• WCF Service, Java JApplet client, transport error 405

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with a WCF Service and Java Client, I will try to give as much information as i can, thanks for your time. The Endpoint of the server is BasicHttpBinding, I tried hosting the server as a Windows Service and in IIS but nothing changed. The weird thing is that the Client works great if I use a simple class, in the moment I switch the class to an JApplet I get the problem mentioned. I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, I tried Axis and Metro to generate the stub with the same bad results. I Also tried to call this from a Silverlight client and I was getting a security exception, this is where I found out about clientaccesspolicy.xml and crossdomain.xml, I added clientaccesspolicy.xml to the service and the Silverlight Client works great, so I decided to try crossdomain.xml and nothing, the Applet still does not work. • Thread Synchronisation 101

  Previously I've written some very simple multithreaded code, and I've always been aware that at any time there could be a context switch right in the middle of what I'm doing, so I've always guarded access the shared variables through a CCriticalSection class that enters the critical section on construction and leaves it on destruction. I know this is fairly aggressive and I enter and leave critical sections quite frequently and sometimes egregiously (e.g. at the start of a function when I could put the CCriticalSection inside a tighter code block) but my code doesn't crash and it runs fast enough. At work my multithreaded code needs to be a tighter, only locking/synchronising at the lowest level needed. At work I was trying to debug some multithreaded code, and I came across this: EnterCriticalSection(&m_Crit4); m_bSomeVariable = true; LeaveCriticalSection(&m_Crit4); Now, m_bSomeVariable is a Win32 BOOL (not volatile), which as far as I know is defined to be an int, and on x86 reading and writing these values is a single instruction, and since context switches occur on an instruction boundary then there's no need for synchronising this operation with a critical section. I did some more research online to see whether this operation did not need synchronisation, and I came up with two scenarios it did: The CPU implements out of order execution or the second thread is running on a different core and the updated value is not written into RAM for the other core to see; and The int is not 4-byte aligned. I believe number 1 can be solved using the "volatile" keyword. In VS2005 and later the C++ compiler surrounds access to this variable using memory barriers, ensuring that the variable is always completely written/read to the main system memory before using it. Number 2 I cannot verify, I don't know why the byte alignment would make a difference. I don't know the x86 instruction set, but does mov need to be given a 4-byte aligned address? If not do you need to use a combination of instructions? That would introduce the problem. So... QUESTION 1: Does using the "volatile" keyword (implicity using memory barriers and hinting to the compiler not to optimise this code) absolve a programmer from the need to synchronise a 4-byte/8-byte on x86/x64 variable between read/write operations? QUESTION 2: Is there the explicit requirement that the variable be 4-byte/8-byte aligned? I did some more digging into our code and the variables defined in the class: class CExample { private: CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit1; // Protects variable a CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit2; // Protects variable b CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit3; // Protects variable c CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit4; // Protects variable d // ... }; Now, to me this seems excessive. I thought critical sections synchronised threads between a process, so if you've got one you can enter it and no other thread in that process can execute. There is no need for a critical section for each variable you want to protect, if you're in a critical section then nothing else can interrupt you. I think the only thing that can change the variables from outside a critical section is if the process shares a memory page with another process (can you do that?) and the other process starts to change the values. Mutexes would also help here, named mutexes are shared across processes, or only processes of the same name? QUESTION 3: Is my analysis of critical sections correct, and should this code be rewritten to use mutexes? I have had a look at other synchronisation objects (semaphores and spinlocks), are they better suited here? QUESTION 4: Where are critical sections/mutexes/semaphores/spinlocks best suited? That is, which synchronisation problem should they be applied to. Is there a vast performance penalty for choosing one over the other? And while we're on it, I read that spinlocks should not be used in a single-core multithreaded environment, only a multi-core multithreaded environment. So, QUESTION 5: Is this wrong, or if not, why is it right? Thanks in advance for any responses :)

• Tomcat/Hibernate Problem "SEVERE: Error listenerStart"

  I downloaded working example of hibernate (with maven) and installed it on my tomcat, it worked. Then I created a new web project in MyEclipse, added hibernate support and moved all source files (no jar) to this new project and fixed package/paths wherever was necessary. My servlets are responding correctly but when I add "Listener" in web.xml, tomcat returns error "Error ListenerStart" on startup and my application doesn't start. I've carefully checked all packages, paths and classes, they look good.   Hi, I have to develop a module to export collection of product,order,customer combined attributes. So i thought rather than modifying the core sales report for this purpose better to do a custom functionality. These are the steps that i did but i am not able to produce it. Used magento 1.4.1 version for this. Under /var/www/magento141/app/code/core/Mage/Reports/etc/adminhtml.xml Added these lines for menus. <ereaders translate="title" module="reports"> <title>EReader Sales Report</title> <children> <ereaders translate="title" module="reports"> <title>Sales Report</title> <action>adminhtml/report_sales/ereaders</action> </ereaders> </children> </ereaders> Under /var/www/magento141/app/design/adminhtml/default/default/layout/sales.xml Added these lines for filter condition. <adminhtml_report_sales_ereaders> <update handle="report_sales"/> <reference name="content"> <block type="adminhtml/report_sales_sales" template="report/grid/container.phtml" name="sales.report.grid.container"> <block type="adminhtml/store_switcher" template="report/store/switcher/enhanced.phtml" name="store.switcher"> <action method="setStoreVarName"><var_name>store_ids</var_name></action> </block> <block type="sales/adminhtml_report_filter_form_order" name="grid.filter.form"> ---- </block> </block> </reference> </adminhtml_report_sales_ereaders> And then copied the needed block,model files from sales and renamed all of them into ereaders under /var/www/magento141/app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/. From my reading of the MySQL documentation, this seems like a reasonable complaint, especially in regards to the third bullet point on this doc page. Here's my question. Am I missing something in the DBIx::Class module? I realize that I could explicitly create the necessary index to match up with this foreign key constraint, but that seems to be repetitive work. Is there something I should be doing to make this occur implicitly?

  Not sure what could be wrong. I had an app that worked all along with this <context:property-placeholder location="classpath:my.properties"/> No problems finding the properties file and hooking things up. Now, I needed to encrypt some fields in the properties file. So I ended up writing the custom PropertiesPlaceholderConfigurer and tried to wire it up like this <bean class="com.mycompany.myapp.PropertiesPlaceholderConfigurer"> <property name="location" value="classpath:my.propeties"/> </bean> With this configuration, Spring complains that it cannot find the properties file. java.io.FileNotFoundException: class path resource [my.propeties] cannot be opened because it does not exist What in addition should be done? • Using a "white list" for extracting terms for Text Mining

  In Part 1 of my post on "Generating cluster names from a document clustering model" (part 1, part 2, part 3), I showed how to build a clustering model from text documents using Oracle Data Miner, which automates preparing data for text mining. In this process we specified a custom stoplist and lexer and relied on Oracle Text to identify important terms.  However, there is an alternative approach, the white list, which uses a thesaurus object with the Oracle Text CTXRULE index to allow you to specify the important terms. INTRODUCTIONA stoplist is used to exclude, i.e., black list, specific words in your documents from being indexed. For example, words like a, if, and, or, and but normally add no value when text mining. Other words can also be excluded if they do not help to differentiate documents, e.g., the word Oracle is ubiquitous in the Oracle product literature. One problem with stoplists is determining which words to specify. This usually requires inspecting the terms that are extracted, manually identifying which ones you don't want, and then re-indexing the documents to determine if you missed any. Since a corpus of documents could contain thousands of words, this could be a tedious exercise. Moreover, since every word is considered as an individual token, a term excluded in one context may be needed to help identify a term in another context. For example, in our Oracle product literature example, the words "Oracle Data Mining" taken individually are not particular helpful. The term "Oracle" may be found in nearly all documents, as with the term "Data." The term "Mining" is more unique, but could also refer to the Mining industry. If we exclude "Oracle" and "Data" by specifying them in the stoplist, we lose valuable information. But it we include them, they may introduce too much noise. Still, when you have a broad vocabulary or don't have a list of specific terms of interest, you rely on the text engine to identify important terms, often by computing the term frequency - inverse document frequency metric. (This is effectively a weight associated with each term indicating its relative importance in a document within a collection of documents. We'll revisit this later.) The results using this technique is often quite valuable. As noted above, an alternative to the subtractive nature of the stoplist is to specify a white list, or a list of terms--perhaps multi-word--that we want to extract and use for data mining. The obvious downside to this approach is the need to specify the set of terms of interest. However, this may not be as daunting a task as it seems. For example, in a given domain (Oracle product literature), there is often a recognized glossary, or a list of keywords and phrases (Oracle product names, industry names, product categories, etc.). Being able to identify multi-word terms, e.g., "Oracle Data Mining" or "Customer Relationship Management" as a single token can greatly increase the quality of the data mining results. The remainder of this post and subsequent posts will focus on how to produce a dataset that contains white list terms, suitable for mining. CREATING A WHITE LIST We'll leverage the thesaurus capability of Oracle Text. Using a thesaurus, we create a set of rules that are in effect our mapping from single and multi-word terms to the tokens used to represent those terms. For example, "Oracle Data Mining" becomes "ORACLEDATAMINING." First, we'll create and populate a mapping table called my_term_token_map. All text has been converted to upper case and values in the TERM column are intended to be mapped to the token in the TOKEN column. A cursor is defined over my_term_token_map. As we iterate over  the rows, we insert a synonym relationship 'SYN' into the thesaurus. We also insert into the table my_thesaurus_rules the main term, and the corresponding query string, which specifies synonyms for the token in the thesaurus. We'll then compute the tf-idf weights for each of the terms and create a nested table suitable for mining.
