Using Android as a tethered USB gateway works fine in W7 but other devices (VirtualBox and Netbook via wireless hub) cannot acess the internet.
Can this be done and how?
Within a minute of connecting to my remote Linux server through SSH, my session times out and I cannot contact the server until a few seconds have passed. Meanwhile, I'm connected to other servers without interruption. This is only happening when I establish connection from an hotel wireless AP. When I connect from my phone's Internet, the problem does not occur. Does anyone know what might be causing these unusual timeouts?
I have 2 routers that I would like to connect together (they are wireless but dont have an AP mode) could I simply buy a pair of homeplugs and connect them in order for all machines to have complete visibility of each other?!
The DHCP will only be enabled on one, so the other will simply be acting as a switch
I am looking for a guide on how to set up a local home server that will also be used as a web server. I have an old desktop with Ubuntu 12.10 and wish for this to be used as my central web and local server. I also have multiple Windows 7 systems at home that I wish to be part of this network and a wireless router. Can someone provide me with assistance on where to start (perhaps just the home network) or refer me to a guide on how to do this?
I have two computers on a home network. One is a development machine, testing sites on IIS (http:// myclientsite/). My other computer (Laptop) is connected through a wireless – it can access shared folders just fine.
How do I allow Laptop to access the site (http:// myclientsite/) located on the development machine?
Hello
I am a rookie network engineer and I've been asked to create a secure wireless system intergrated with an existing network. So far I'd decided to use 802.1x secuity with a Radius enabled server over a Novell backbone.
My question is: does Novell still support this type of server setup? I heard rumours it is at the end of it's supported life and I'd like some confirmation.
Also can I get some recommendations on better backbone / server providers.
Cheers
for some reason when i press the shift key on my laptop keyboard is mapped to 'ctrl+v' which does a paste. i thought it was the keyboard but then i replaced it with a wireless one,it still gives me the same issue. can someone help me. i cant just turn off the shift key all together because i do need it at times. model 8510w; vista operating system
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 rightnow, but I'd like to install kernel 2.6.33 into it.
I see that there's deb files on kernel sites. Problems is that I cannot just download these deb files and have dpkg install them for me because wireless and graphic drivers cannot be compiled against the new kernel.
Is there any way to do that?
Is it possible to open inbound connections to a machine connected to a VPN server?
The machine is running ubuntu 9.10 with two network devices(a wireless card and ethernet port), I can connect to my machine locally using a local ip but when I try port forward using my router I can't connect from my external ip.
Is there a way around this? I figure with 2 network devices I can vpn over one and use the other for inbound connections but I can't figure out how to do this.
Thanks
I have an iPad that is connected to the Wireless router in my network. However, this router is connected to my Win 2008 server, which in its turn is connected to the internet. The iPad is unable to connect to the public url for the exchange server on the server (www.example.com) and has erratic internet access, where Windows laptops are provided with faultless internet access, even when they are not a member of the domain.
How do I solve this?
I am looking for the name/type of device which does the following:
Connects to the internet via ethernet or wireless and
then produces a "fake" 3G signal for my iPhone to connect to.
The 3G siginal in my office is very weak or non-existant and I need a way of boosting or replacing it.
Does anybody have the step by step configuration process that would allow VirtualBox running a Linux/Ubuntu guest on a Mac OS X host use the bridge type network using Ethernet and wireless? I have read that it does work and it doesn't work, trying to find a definite answer. I want the guest environment to look like a separate box.
Thanks
I know of whoami.exe. Is there a version called whereami.exe
The output should be able to tell me if I am on a LAN, wireless or VPN.
the machines would be running Windows Xp or better.
I am trying to configure my wireless router to block domains that are potentially dangerous to privacy, security, and bandwidth-hogs. Is there a list of domains that I can block at the router level? On a machine level, I have set the hosts file from www.mvps.org and that works on my machine. However, I want to implement something at the router level too - so that all computers in my household are somewhat protected.
Ok, Here is the technical description.
My laptop's config:
Ip Adress:192.168.2.5
Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306
Operating system: Ubuntu
the database is in this machine
My friend's laptop config:
Ip Adress:192.168.2.4
Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306
Operating system: Windows XP
Both are on a wireless LAN connected through a belkin router (192.168.2.1)
I put this but its not working:
url = "jdbc:mysql://192.168.2.5:3306/Database"
so how configure to connect to this database?
I'm looking at allowing internet access for only a few scattered users on a school network. One method I'm considering is using 802.1x authentication for the modem. Of course there are simpler options like only allowing specific IP or mac addresses, but policy requires something more secure than this.
So, are there any modems with 802.1x wired authentication? All my searching on this yields info about wireless.
I setup an wireless AP (linksys wifi router) to have no dhcp and point to the main router as the default gateway.
I also set it up to obtain a ip from the network
but when i go to my main router and look for it i don't see any ip's that it could be
If i use net stumbler i can see the mac address of the wifi portion of it but Im at a loss how to get into the web console of this router
any ideas on how to "find" this router?
Hi Folks, recently I turned my Router to a wireless access point for my home network. Unfortunately, I forgot to note down the AP's IP Address and Subnet.
How do I reliably get the IP of my AP?
Thank's in advance.
I'm using Snow Leopard with Remote Desktop Connection attempting to access a Windows XP machine on a home network. If I specify the Windows PC's hostname it won't connect. Only by specifying the IP address does it connect. It's the same issue when trying to ping the Windows machine - IP address works, hostname doesn't.
Both machines are on the same subnet connecting with a wireless router.
Is there way to get OSX to resolve the Windows PC by its hostname?
I have a few computers connected through a Gigabit router which show 1Gbps connections. However, one of the computers only shows 100Mbps connectivity even though it is capable of 1Gbps. I am not seeing an errors in the event viewer.

Question: How can I configure the above computer to run at 1Gbps connectivity like the others?
I had to format a USB hard drive to ext3 to use it with a Linksys nas box. Now I can't read the hd when I unplug it from the nas and plug it directly into my Windows 7 computer. (The computer accesses the nas over a wireless connection, so I like to plug the hd directly into my pc when transferring large files.)
How can I leave the hd formatted with ext3 and yet be able to access it (read/write) when I plug it directly into my pc?
I am choosing a wireless headset for my PC (I hate cables) and am looking at Sennheiser RS 170 / 180. They supposedly sound great, however, there is a 25ms audio latency. I've heard that this is OK when watching TV or listening musing but is bad for games.
The question is - has there been any research / hard data that would show how much of a delay is noticeable by human brain? 25ms doesn't sound like a lot but I may be wrong.
I am running ubuntu on various computers on a home wireless network. Some are on 9.04x64, some 10.04x64 and one 9.04x32.
Running scp with a large file starts out at 2.1 mbps and drops down to about 200k, stalling and dropping until the transfer is complete. I've noticed this when I have a secure shell open on any of these servers as well.
I have tried this with 2 different routers, both brand new, different brands.
A lot of people like iPod Touches because they're almost identical to iPhones, but without cell service (and the monthly fees that go along with it), while still being able to connect to a wireless network. Are there any alternative devices that run Android?
