  I've got a DOS program kicked off by a cmd script that dumps a lot of data I'd like to track in a log file. I can easily pipe it to a file - but I need a rolling logfile. Is there an easy way to pipe the output to a program that will generate a daily rolling logfile? (ie a new file is created for each day)

• gtk draw "expose-event" and redraw

  I want to use expose-event to draw something then update or redraw. That's to say, there are a drawing area and a button in window. When clicking button, the drawing area will be redrawn accordingly. My problems are Following code worked but it only had a drawing area no button. If I add the button(cancel the comment for button), nothing is drawn. What's the reason? In the following code, if I changed gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (box), canvas); to gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX(box), canvas, FALSE, FALSE, 0);, nothing is drawn. Usually we use gtk_box_pack_start to add something into box. Why doesn't it work this time? The function build_ACC_axis refreshed drawing area and prepared for new draw. I google it but I didn't know if it worked. Could you please comment on it? • How to find multiple words on the same line in Notepad++

  I have a 4MB log file from the Windows XP firewall which I'm trying to find lines that have both DROP and an IP and a port number. My regex-fu is weak and I'm assuming this is the reason I'm struggling. The words "DROP", "10.1.1.1" (for example) and "8801" need to be found on the same line and may be spread across the line and separated by one or more other words. Any help (or suggestions of another method to do this) are much appreciated.

  You can built sample application on ASP.NET MVC 3 for deploying it to your hosting first. To try it out first put it to web server where ASP.NET MVC 3 installed. In this posting I will tell you what files you need and where you can find them. Here are the files you need to upload to get application running on server where ASP.NET MVC 3 is not installed. Also you can deploying ASP.NET MVC 3 web application to server where ASP.NET MVC 3 is not installed like this example: you can change reference to System.Web.Helpers.dll to be the local one so it is copied to bin folder of your application. First file in this list is my web application dll and you don’t need it to get ASP.NET MVC 3 running. All other files are located at the following folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET Web Pages\v1.0\Assemblies\ If there are more files needed in some other scenarios then please leave me a comment here. And… don’t forget to convert the folder in IIS to application. While developing an application locally, this isn’t a problem. But when you are ready to deploy your application to a hosting provider, this might well be a problem if the hoster does not have the ASP.NET MVC assemblies installed in the GAC. Fortunately, ASP.NET MVC is still bin-deployable. If your hosting provider has ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 installed, then you’ll only need to include the MVC DLL. If your hosting provider is still on ASP.NET 3.5, then you’ll need to deploy all three. It turns out that it’s really easy to do so. Also, ASP.NET MVC runs in Medium Trust, so it should work with most hosting providers’ Medium Trust policies. It’s always possible that a hosting provider customizes their Medium Trust policy to be draconian. Deployment is easy when you know what to copy in archive for publishing your web site on ASP.NET MVC 3 or later versions. What I like to do is use the Publish feature of Visual Studio to publish to a local directory and then upload the files to my hosting provider. If your hosting provider supports FTP, you can often skip this intermediate step and publish directly to the FTP site. The first thing I do in preparation is to go to my MVC web application project and expand the References node in the project tree. Select the aforementioned three assemblies and in the Properties dialog, set Copy Local to True. Now just right click on your application and select Publish. This brings up the following Publish wizard Notice that in this example, I selected a local directory. When I hit Publish, all the files needed to deploy my app are available in the directory I chose, including the assemblies that were in the GAC.   RSSBus ADO.NET Providers can be used from many tools and IDEs. In this article we show how to connect to QuickBooks from an MVC3 project using the RSSBus ADO.NET Provider for QuickBooks. Although this example uses the QuickBooks Data Provider, the same process can be used with any of our ADO.NET Providers. Creating the Model Step 1: Download and install the QuickBooks Data Provider from RSSBus. Step 2: Create a new MVC3 project in Visual Studio. Add a data model to the Models folder using the ADO.NET Entity Data Model wizard. Step 3: Create a new RSSBus QuickBooks Data Source by clicking "New Connection", specify the connection string options, and click Next. Step 4: Select all the tables and views you need, and click Finish to create the data model. Step 5: Right click on the entity diagram and select 'Add Code Generation Item'. Choose the 'ADO.NET DbContext Generator'. Creating the Controller and the Views Step 6: Add a new controller to the Controllers folder. Give it a meaningful name, such as ReceivePaymentsController. Also, make sure the template selected is 'Controller with empty read/write actions'. Before adding new methods to the Controller, create views for your model. We will add the List, Create, and Delete views. Step 7: Right click on the Views folder and go to Add -> View. Here create a new view for each: List, Create, and Delete templates. Make sure to also associate your Model with the new views. Step 10: Now that the views are ready, go back and edit the RecievePayment controller. Update your code to handle the Index, Create, and Delete methods. Sample Project We are including a sample project that shows how to use the QuickBooks Data Provider in an MVC3 application. • Suggestions for Summer Intern Application Assignments

  As part of our application process we want prospective college interns to complete an assignment on their own - either programming or analytical - to give us something tangible to evaluate such as code or a flowchart. I have two ideas for these assignments, one programming and one analytical, I am interested in gathering feedback about these. Programming Assignment Generate an a month's calendar for a given date. The first row should indicate the days of the week (e.g. Sunday - Saturday). Each subsequent row should contain a week's days. The date supplied should be highlighted (e.g. bolded). I am thinking we'll probably proscribe the output format even more strictly - probably down to what the HTML source should look like including CSS classes. Thinking is this forces answerers to actually do some work if they merely copy a solution from the internet. Analytical Assignment Diagram or describe in prose a system for managing a set of traffic lights for traffic at a four way intersection. Each direction (i.e. North, South, East and West) has two lanes (i.e. right and left). The left lane is turn only and has green arrow light to indicate right of way. The system is able to detect if lanes have cars in them and change the lights accordingly. I would expect a flow chart or some prose describing a finite state machine that deals with each contingency. This would hopefully provide some indication of the applicant's ability to reason through a logic problem of sorts and articulate an approach for solving. Areas Seeking Feedback Is it unreasonable to ask this of applicants? If not, is it better to request before or after a phone screen? Are these questions too hard or easy for a collegiate audience? Any suggestions for alternate questions? Do these seem like good tools for analyzing people who would part of a software development life cycle? Programming language suggestions - I'm thinking Java, Python and/or C# (we're actually a ColdFusion shop).

• jQuery - window focus, blur events not triggering - works in Firefox and Chrome

  In a nutshell; I wrote a simplistic chat application for a buddy and me to use. When the window running the application does not have the focus (minimized or behind other windows) and a message comes in, I want to change the windows title bar to serve as an alert. Exactly like Google's chat application does in GMail. Everything works flawlessly in Firefox and Chrome but not in IE7 (haven't tested 8). This is the code I am using to determine if the window has focus. Can this be written differently to also work in IE? Also, I'm open to any other approaches to accomplish the same thing.   Hello, I have an Adorner which adornes a Border (please see screenshot below). The MouseDown Event for the Adorner is however only raised, when clicking on an element in the adorner. I need the MouseDown Event to be raised, when clicking on any place in the adorner above the adorned element. How can this be done? • Using getRotationMatrix and getOrientation in Android 2.1

  I've been having issues with this for far too long. This code should output dx,dy,dz for the accelerometer, and a running total of the dx. It should also output azimuth, pitch, and roll.   Smashed my head against this a bit too long. How do I prevent a user from browsing a site's pages after they have been logged out using FormsAuthentication.SignOut? I would expect this to do it: FormsAuthentication.SignOut(); Session.Abandon(); FormsAuthentication.RedirectToLoginPage(); But it doesn't. If I type in a URL directly, I can still browse to the page. I haven't used roll-your-own security in a while so I forget why this doesn't work.

• PDFObject load event

  Hi. We are trying to load a pdf file in web browser using pdfobject javascript api. Currently the size of the pdf's that we are trying to display is close to 10MBs. This creates a long delay in displaying a PDF on web page; while the complete PDF gets downloaded. We need to remove this lag by achieving either of the alternatives: Show a progress bar until the PDF is actually displayed. We couldn't find an event which is triggered and can be used to find out if pdf is visible now. This lacking doesn't let us decide when to stop showing progress bar/spinner OR lazy load the PDF such that it gets displayed as soon as first page gets loaded. With that ateast user will have a visual indication as to something is happening. We couldn'find anything in pdf object that lets us do a lazy load. User alternative pdf rendering api; this is a low priority as we already have complete code in place; but in an event of first 2 alternatives not being met; we'd have to consider this option. So please feel free to suggest. Any other ideas as to how user interaction can be made more intuitive or pleasant; would be welcome. Cheers

  I'm trying to use the following c# code to detect the attached/removed event of usb mass storage devices. But I also found a couple of articles which claim that this kind of query (mostly in vbscript) works with XP. But I cannot find some offical information from microsoft for this issue and I can't believe that Microsoft have overlooked this issue for three service packs. So my question is: has anybody used the Win32_VolumeChangeEvent with success on XP or can provide a link/explanation why it shouldn't work on XP?

I can make the toolbar appear, but then it should become hidden when I open or switch to a new tab, or close the tab with that specific page.   Background I'm troubleshooting an WinForms 2.0 program that's already been burned to CD for distribution to an internet-challenged target audience. Some users are experiencing a fatal error that I can reproduce locally. Reproducing the Error I get the fatal error when I log into my Vista box using a standard user that I just created, even if I run the program as administrator. I do not get the fatal error when I log in as local administrator. I'm not sure that being administrator is necessarily the trigger (since runas did not help). I have reproduced this half a dozen times under each account with consistent results. When logged in as my test standard user, ApplySkin is always called a second time while skin is still null, causing a second attempt to load, causing the file to be locked on the second attempt. The error handling is draconian at this point and the program terminates. The Question While this code can be easily fixed, I would like to understand why the error is happening only in some cases.

• Javascript: Controlling the order that event handlers / listeners are exeucted in

  Once again the IE Monster has hit me with an odd problem. I'm writing some changes into an asp.net site I inherited a while back. One of the problems is that in some pages there are several controls that add javascript functions as handlers to the onload event (using YUI if that matters). Some of those event handlers assume certain other functions have been executed. This is well and good in Firefox and IE7 as the handlers seem to execute in order of registration. IE8 on the other hand does this backwards. I could go with some kind of double-checking approach but given the controls are present in several pages I feel that'd create even more dependencies. So I've started cooking up my own queue class that I push the functions to and can control their execution order. Then I'll register an onload handler that instructs the queue to execute in my preferred order. I'm part way through that and have started wondering 2 things: Am I going OTT? Am I reinventing the wheel? Anyone have any insights? Any clean solutions that allow me to easily enforce execution order?

• FastMM log to file without FullDebugMode

  I'd like to get FastMM memory leak report that shows up on app shutdown, but in a file instead of the dialog box. The idea is to use it in a release build as I have trouble reproducing the leaks. I would however prefer to not use the FullDebugMode which seems to be required for logging to a file. Am I missing anything or is this not supported ?
