• Query gives an unsorted result set when run from stored procedure using CTE

  I am trying to create a paging query using CTE. It works fine when I execute it from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Query Editor. And the result set is perfectly sorted as I want. But when I modify it for a stored procedure it gives me a unsorted result and I don't have any clue why. • Insert multiple line breaks into a JavaScript string (regex) (CodeMirror)

  I have a few strings and I would like to insert some line breaks into them at certain points. I figured out a few of the logistics but as a whole I can't seem to crack this problem, probably because I have limited experience with regex. Basically I have a long string of XML tags that is all on one line. I want to add line breaks at certain points to get the data more formatted and looking nice. I am using CodeMirror to display this data on a webpage but for some reason its all on line #1. So I need to go from something like this: <Sample><Name></Name><PhoneNumber><AreaCode></AreaCode><Number></Number></PhoneNumber></Sample> To something like this: <Sample> <Name></Name> <PhoneNumber> <AreaCode></AreaCode> <Number></Number> </PhoneNumber> </Sample> CodeMirror will take care of the rest of the formatting all I need to do is insert the line breaks in the right spot using regex or a loop of some sort. The Tags will or can change so I am guessing regex has to be used. I have had success inserting line breaks with \n and &#xD but can't seem to get regex to detect the proper locations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. UPDATE I overlooked this but the brackets are in fact being sent as < and > So example tag would look like: &lt;PhoneNumber&gt; or &lt;/PhoneNumber&gt; So basically need to insert a \n after every &gt; that is a closing tag or a beginning tag that contains children tags.

• Calculate total batch upload transfer percent with limited information

  Hi there, I have a system which uploads to a server file by file and displays a progress bar on file upload progress, then underneath a second progress bar which I want to indicate percentage of batch complete across all files queued to upload. Information and algorithms I can work out are: Bytes Sent / Total Bytes To Send = First progress bar (eg. 512KB of 1024KB (50%)) That works fine. However supposing I have two other files left to upload, but both file sizes are unknown (as this is only known once the file is about to commence upload, at which point it is compressed and file size is determined) how would I go about making my third progress bar? I didn't think this would be possible as I would need "Total Bytes Sent" / "Total Bytes To Send", to replicate the logic of my first progress bar on a larger scale, however I did get a version working: "Current file number we are on" / "total number of files to send" returning the percentage through the batch, however obviously will not incrementally update and it's pretty crude. So on further thinking I thought if I could incorporate the current file % with this algorithm I could perhaps get the correct progress percentage of my batch's current point. I tried this algorithm, but alas to no such avail (sorry to any math heads, it's probably quite apparent why it won't work) ("Current file number we are on" / "total number of files to send") * ("Bytes Sent" / "Total Bytes To Send") For example I thought I was on the right track when testing with this example: 2/3 (2nd of 3rd file) = 66% (this is right so far) but then when I added * 0.20 (for indicating only 20% of 2nd file has uploaded) we went back to 13%. What I need is only a little over 33%! I did try the inverse at 0.80 and a (2/3 * (2/3 * 0.2)) Can this be done without knowing entire bytes in batch to upload? Please help! Thank you!

• Does this mimic perfectly a function template specialization?

  Since the function template in the following code is a member of a class template, it can't be specialized without specializing the enclosing class. But if the compiler's full optimizations are on (assume Visual Studio 2010), will the if-else-statement in the following code get optimized out? It appears that it is only my router that cannot get IP address. I have already tried cloning my MAC address and reconfiguring my router using the setup CD, but nothing worked. • How to get rid of the GUI access from shared library.

  Hello, In my project i have a shared library with cross-platform code that provides a very convenient abstraction for a number of its clients. To be more specific, this library provides data access to encrypted files generated by main application on a number of platforms. There is a great deal of complicated code there that implements cryptographic protocols and as such is very error-prone and should be shared as much as possible across clients and platforms. However parsing all this encrypted stuff requires asking user for a number of different secrets ones in a while. The secret can be either a password, a number of shared passwords or a public key file and this list is a hot target for extension in the future. I can't really ask the user for any of those secrets beforehand from main application, because i really don't know what i need to ask for until i start working with the encrypted data directly in the library code. So i will have to create dialogs and call them from the library code. However i really see this as a bad idea, because (among other things) there is a possibility of a windows service using it and services can't have GUI access. The question is, are there any known ways or patterns to get rid of the GUI calls that are suitable for my case? Thank you.

All employees cannot work more than 40 hours a week because of the provincial law. Furthermore, they must staff 6 beaches. Everybeach has different staffing needs. Furthermore, I would like the application to be able to to take into considerations all employees needs such as vacation days and prefered beaches. Finally I would like to create a staff rotation between beaches to encourage employee motivation. Is there an open source application for my needs available out there ?

• How do I add ROW_NUMBER to a LINQ query or Entity?

  I'm stumped by this easy data problem. I'm using the Entity framework and have a database of products. My results page returns a paginated list of these products. Right now my results are ordered by the number of sales of each product, so my code looks like this: return Products.OrderByDescending(u => u.Sales.Count()); This returns an IQueryable dataset of my entities, sorted by the number of sales. I want my results page to show the rank of each product (in the dataset). My results should look like this: Page #1 1. Bananas 2. Apples 3. Coffee Page #2 4. Cookies 5. Ice Cream 6. Lettuce I'm expecting that I just want to add a column in my results using the SQL ROW_NUMBER variable...but I don't know how to add this column to my results datatable. My resulting page does contain a foreach loop, but since I'm using a paginated set I'm guessing using that number to fake a ranking number would NOT be the best approach. So my question is, how do I add a ROW_NUMBER column to my query results in this case?

• Incremental backup up from a remote ftp box to a Windows server

  I need to backup a website to a Windows server every week and I only have access to remote FTP. I'd like to use an incremental backup program so that I can just copy the files every week on a schedule and not worry too much about the size of the backups becoming an issue. Unfortunately, I can't find a Windows program that will automatically make incremental backups of specific FTP folders and files, as most programs are designed to backup to FTP, not from it. Are there any applications that can do this? I also have a Ubuntu 10.04 box I could use to relay the site to the Windows server if I needed to run Linux programs, but I would prefer a Windows-only solution over a Linux/Windows one, and a combined Linux/Windows solution over not having it work at all.

• Only last row in method execute (Objective-C)

  First I want to apologize for my lack of knowledge in programming in general. I am in the way of learning and have discovered that this site is a huge compliment for me of doing so. I have created a program with three UITextField(thePlace,theVerb,theOutput) and two UITextView where one of the textviews(theOutput) take the text from the other textview(theTemplate) and replaces some strings with the text entered in the textfields. When I click a button it triggers the method createStory that is listed below. This works fine with one exception. The text in the output only changes the string 'number' to the text in the textfield. However if I change the order in the method to replace 'place','number','verb' only the verb is changed, not the number. Im sure this is some sort of easy fix but I can't find it. • NSFetchedResultsController is driving me crazy

  Hi everyone. i've been building an app since 1 month using NSFetchedResultsController and i was testing the app on the 3.1.2 SDK. The poblem is that i've been using NSFetchedResultsController everywhere in my app and was working on the 3.1.2 version of the SDK, now my client say that i should make it compatible with the 3.0 version and the deadline is almost there. But is crashing everytime i change an object handled by the contoller, the application is crashing with very weird errors. The problem occure when removing the last object in a section and when a change make an object love to another section. I've been using a sample code from "More iPhone 3 Development Tackling iPhone SDK 3" by Dave Mark and Jeff LaMarche. • Should a sysadmin contractor charge overtime for off-peak hours?

  This is not necessarily a server-related question, but more of a system admin question that I think would related to many on SF. I'm doing Sysadmin/IT consulting for a small company. I only work about 3 days a week for them on average. If a server goes down or something like that during off hours (nights, weekends, 3am, etc) and they need it fixed during those time periods, should I be charging overtime for that? I would I not be justified in charging overtime until I've logged 40 hours for the week? Perhaps calling it overtime isn't the best name. I guess maybe its better to call it an off-peak hourly rate. Anyways I just was curious what other consultants did in these circumstances.

• SQL Server 7 Transaction Logs Issues

  Over the week my database server transaction log was full. With our app people could select from the database but could not update or insert into the database. In the past we have just truncated the transaction logs. After that, everything was back to normal. This week I truncated the transaction logs, and shrink that database. Now we can select, update, and insert into the database. The only issue is when we do a big job, and to a lot on inserting or updating, we get the following error: Database error: S1008:[Microsft][ODBC]Operation canceled We never had this issue before, I am assuming the that is the same as a timeout error. Has anyone else had this issue before, or know how I resolve this?

• How can I modify my code to line through the bezier control points?

  HI all - I am using anchor points and control points to create a shape using curveTo. It's all working fine, but I cannot figure out how to get my lines to go through the center of the control points (blue dots) when the line is not straight. • Hierarchy / Flyweight / Instancing Problem in Python

  Here is the problem I am trying to solve, (I have simplified the actual problem, but this should give you all the relevant information). I have a hierarchy like so: 1.A 1.B 1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.F (This is hard to illustrate - each number is the parent, each letter is the child). Creating an instance of the 'letter' objects is expensive (IO, database costs, etc), so should only be done once. The hierarchy needs to be easy to navigate. Children in the hierarchy need to have just one parent. Modifying the contents of the letter objects should be possible directly from the objects in the hierarchy. There needs to be a central store containing all of the 'letter' objects (and only those in the hierarchy). 'letter' and 'number' objects need to be possible to create from a constructor (such as Letter(**kwargs) ). It is perfectably acceptable to expect that when a letter changes from the hierarchy, all other letters will respect the same change. Hope this isn't too abstract to illustrate the problem. What would be the best way of solving this? • Rackspace Cloud Sites: Compute Cycles exploding. Very expensive

  Since last week my compute cycles (CC) went through the roof (Rackspace Cloud Sites). Normally I stay under the 10,000 cycles per month . Now this month I already have more than 75,000 compute cycles. I don't have more visitors and I did not change anything in the code. I looked in the raw log files, that didn't help either... This explosion of CC already costs me more than 750 USD right now. And still counting. Anyone know what to do? I have contacted Rackspace last week. But still no solution/answer.... Looks like Rackspace is liking the money! Help! Thanks.

  I'm making a generator of LL(1) parsers, my input is a CoCo/R language specification. I've already got a Scanner generator for that input. Suppose I've got the following specification: COMPILER 1. CHARACTERS digit="0123456789". TOKENS number = digit{digit}. decnumber = digit{digit}"."digit{digit}. PRODUCTIONS Expression = Term{"+"Term|"-"Term}. Term = Factor{"*"Factor|"/"Factor}. Factor = ["-"](Number|"("Expression")"). Number = (number|decnumber). END 1. So, if the parser generated by this grammar receives a word "1+1", it'd be accepted i.e. a parse tree would be found. My question is, the character "+" was never defined in a token, but it appears in the non-terminal "Expression". How should my generated Scanner recognize it? It would not recognize it as a token. Is this a valid input then? Should I add this terminal in TOKENS and then consider an error routine for a Scanner for it to skip it? How does usual language specifications handle this?

• How do I get XML path by its value?

  I need to get the xml path opf the xml file by providing the value of an xml child element as the input. For example: XML file: <?xml version="1.0"?> <document-inquiry xmlns="http://ops.epo.org"> <publication-reference data-format="docdb" xmlns="http://www.epo.org/exchange"> <document-id> <country>EP</country> <doc-number>1000</doc-number> <kind>A1</kind> </document-id> </publication-reference> </document-inquiry> For the above XML file. I need to get the XML path by using the value "1000". If my input is value of the element "1000" Output i need is : <document-id> <country>EP</country> <doc-number>1000</doc-number> <kind>A1</kind> </document-id> I need to achieve this using c# code.
