  • google url shortener api and jquery not working

    - by rahim
    i cant seem to get google's new url shortener api to work with jquery's post method: $(document).ready(function() { $.post("https://www.googleapis.com/urlshortener/v1/url", { longUrl: "http://www.google.com/"}, function(data){ console.log("data" + data); }); $('body').ajaxError(function(e, xhr, settings, exception) { $(this).text('fail'+e); console.log(exception); }); }); all of this gives me an empty (data) response AND an empty (exception) response. any ideas? ive also tried this with no success: $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: "https://www.googleapis.com/urlshortener/v1/url", data: { longUrl: "http://www.google.com/"}, success: success, dataType: "jsonp" });

  • JQuery .html() method and external scripts

    - by Marco
    Hi, i'm loading, using the JQuery ajax() method, an external page with both html and javascript code: <script type="text/javascript" src="myfile.js"></script> <p>This is some HTML</p> <script type="text/javascript"> alert("This is inline JS"); </script> and setting the results into a div element, using the html() method. While the html() method properly evaluates the inline JS code, it doesn't download and evaluate the external JS file "myfile.js". Any tip for this issue?

  • jquery filter .not()

    - by FFish
    I have a form with image thumbnails to select with checkboxes for downloading. I want an array with the images in jQuery for an Ajax call. 2 questions: - On the top of the table there is a checkbox to toggle all checkboxes that I want to exclude from the mapping. I had a look at jQuery's .not() but I can't implement it with the :checkbox selector - is the following example code correct? $(document).ready(function() { $('#myform').submit(function() { var images = $("input:checkbox", this).map(function() { return $(this).attr("name"); }).get().join(); alert(products); // outputs: ",check1,check2,check3" return false; // cancel submit action by returning false }); }); // end doc ready HTML: <form id="myform" action="" > <input type="checkbox" id="toggleCheck" onclick="toggleSelectAll()" checked="checked" ><br /> <input type="checkbox" name="001.jpg" checked="checked" /><br /> <input type="checkbox" name="002.jpg" checked="checked" /><br /> <input type="checkbox" name="003.jpg" checked="checked" /><br /> <br /> <input type="submit" value="download" > </form>

  • submit remote form with prototype

    - by badnaam
    I have a remote form like this and a checkbox in it. When I select or deselect the checkbox I would like to 1 - set the value of a hidden field 2 - ajax submit this form to its designated url. I tried $('search_form').onsubmit(), but I get an error saying onsubmit is not a function. Using prototype. Whats the best way to do this? <form onsubmit="new Ajax.Request('/searches/search_set?stype=1', {asynchronous:true, evalScripts:true, parameters:Form.serialize(this)}); return false;" method="post" id="new_search" class="new_search" action="/searches/search_set?stype=1"><div style="margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; display: inline;"><input type="hidden" value="3TWSyMsZXI0nltz7zHAxuj1KX=" name="authenticity_token"></div> <a onclick="setSubmit(this);" href="#" class="submit-link-button fg-button ui-state-default fg-button-icon-left ui-corner-all" id="search_submit"><span class="ui-icon ui-icon-search"></span>'Search'</a> </div> <input type="checkbox" value="Energy" onclick="refreshResults(this);" name="search[conditions][article_tag][0]" id="search_conditions_article_tag_0">

  • can't load/read yahoo geocode as xml and read it in jquery

    - by mastah
    Hi, I tried saving the result as an xml, when I read from there it works, but if I read it from yahoo's api, doesn't load anything. You can check it here here's my script $(document).ready(function(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://local.yahooapis.com/MapsService/V1/geocode?appid=YD-9G7bey8_JXxQP6rxl.fBFGgCdNjoDMACQA--&zip=10035", dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { $(xml).find('Result').each(function(){ var city = $(this).find('City').text(); var state = $(this).find('State').text(); $('<div />').html('<p>'+city+'</p><p>'+state+'</p>').insertAfter('h2'); }); } }); });

  • Render action return View(); form problem

    - by Roger Rogers
    I'm new to MVC, so please bear with me. :-) I've got a strongly typed "Story" View. This View (story) can have Comments. I've created two Views (not partials) for my Comments controller "ListStoryComments" and "CreateStoryComment", which do what their names imply. These Views are included in the Story View using RenderAction, e.g.: <!-- List comments --> <h2>All Comments</h2> <% Html.RenderAction("ListStoryComments", "Comments", new { id = Model.Story.Id }); %> <!-- Create new comment --> <% Html.RenderAction("CreateStoryComment", "Comments", new { id = Model.Story.Id }); %> (I pass in the Story id in order to list related comments). All works as I hoped, except, when I post a new comment using the form, it returns the current (parent) View, but the Comments form field is still showing the last content I typed in and the ListStoryComments View isn’t updated to show the new story. Basically, the page is being loaded from cache, as if I had pressed the browser’s back button. If I press f5 it will try to repost the form. If I reload the page manually (reenter the URL in the browser's address bar), and then press f5, I will see my new content and the empty form field, which is my desired result. For completeness, my CreateStoryComment action looks like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult CreateStoryComment([Bind(Exclude = "Id, Timestamp, ByUserId, ForUserId")]Comment commentToCreate) { try { commentToCreate.ByUserId = userGuid; commentToCreate.ForUserId = userGuid; commentToCreate.StoryId = 2; // hard-coded for testing _repository.CreateComment(commentToCreate); return View(); } catch { return View(); } }

  • referencing a WCF web service

    - by ErnieStings
    Our current project uses an asmx service. We want to keep this service for now, but would like to add an additional wcf service for ajax calls. I followed a procedure i found online to set up the service and it works fine with javascript in aspx files within that particular project but i'm unsure how to reference it in javascript files in a different project (in the same solution). If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Shawn EDIT: i wish to make calls in javascript similar to the following: function Button1_onclick() { var service = new AjaxServices.TestService(); service.wcfTest(4, onSuccess, null, null); } function onSuccess(result){ document.getElementById("ajaxPlaceHolder").innerHTML = "<p>" + result + "</p>"; } // ]]> but i'm willing to explore the jQuery option as well.

  • UTF-8 BOM in php response to mootools xmlhttprequest

    - by Jimmy
    Hi, I'm writing my first little AJAX-enabled Joomla component. I'm using mootools. I got a xmlhttprequest to contact my Joomla component, and the component returns a response - just plain text echoed by php, like echo 'Hello World!'; It's all working fine, except wireshark tells me that the response is prepended with \357\273\277\357\273\277 when it gets read by the javascript on the client side. This shows up as a little square before the response in an alert box that the script shows. I don't explicitly set the encoding on the xmlhttprequest; mootools docs say that it defaults to UTF8. What's the right way to handle this? Should I be setting the encoding on the request? Mime type? Should the javascript get rid of it? I'm not planning to have any characters requiring UTF8 in the response, so using plain old ascii would be ok for me too. Thanks

  • How to build an interactive search engine web interface using python

    - by asmaier
    I have build a static web interface for searching data from some tables in my PostgreSQL database. The query website consists of a simple textfield for entering the search term, the result website presents the results as a simple html table. The server side code for searching the PostgreSQL database and returning the results is written in python using psycopg2. Now I would like to add some interactive "Ajax features" to my search engine. When entering the search term I would like to be able to see a list of possible search terms like Google does it. On the results page, I would like to be able to sort the table showing the results. What would be the easiest/recommended way to implement these features for my search engine web site? Do I need a full-fledged web framework like Django for that?

  • Getting a scriptmanager into a dynamically rendered page

    - by AndreasKnudsen
    Hi, We are rendering usercontrols dynamically like this: public string RenderControl(string pathcontrol) { string html; var page = new Page(); var control = page.LoadControl(path); page.Controls.Add(control); // do stuff to the control (give it some data to work on) using (var writer = new StringWriter()) { HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute(page, writer, false); html = writer.ToString(); } return html; } This lets us the same user controls when rendering pages normally as we do when rendering responses to ajax calls. However, when adding controls which themselves contain a scriptmanagerProxy we run into the problem that the newed up Page object doesn't contain either a ScriptManager or the HtmlForm in which the ScriptManager needs to run. Is there any way around this? Yours Andreas

  • XMLHttpRequest error in IE, works without issue in Chrome/FF

    - by culov
    function addRequest(req) { try { request = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e) { try{ request = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); }catch(e){ try { request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHttp"); } catch (e) { alert("XMLHttpRequest error: " + e); } } } request.open("GET", req, true); request.send(null); return request; } As you can see, it IE apparently fails all 3 ways in which I try to make the request. I've been doing plenty of searches to try and find what may be the issue, but by all accounts ive read, the code ive posted above should work. i havent used jquery for AJAX, but ive seen it recommended when others have had issues with httprequest objects. could i just replace the mess above with a couple lines of jquery and assume that it will take care of IE's ugliness? Thanks!

  • Would a Socket Connection Outperform an Intarvaled Database Sweep and Requests?

    - by Jascha
    I'm building a small chat application to add to an existing framework. There will only be 20-50 users MAX at any one time. I was wondering if I could get away with updating a cache file containing (semi) live chat data for whichever users happen to be chatting just by performing timed queries and regular AJAX refreshes for new data as opposed to learning how to open and maintain a socket connection. I'm sure there are existing chat plug-ins out there. But I just had a hell of a time installing one and I could see building the whole damn thing taking just as much time as plugging one in. Am I off to a bad start? Thanks in advance -J (p.s. this is a semi closed network behind a php login so security isn't a great concern)

  • Django, javascript and code reuse problem

    - by dragoon
    Hi, I have some sort of a design problem with my Django AJAX application. I have a template where I initialize js variable from django context variable like so: var test = "{{ test }}"; This variable is than used in a number of js functions that are needed for interface to work properly. So now I'm trying to reuse some content from this page in another page that loads it dynamically on some user interaction using jQuery.load(..), and I don't see any way how I can initialize that variable, so js functions don't work now. Is there any solution for this or may be I'm doing it wrong? Thanks.

  • Never render a layout in response to xhrs

    - by Horace Loeb
    Most of the time I don't want to render a layout when the request comes from AJAX. To this end I've been writing render :layout => !request.xhr? frequently in my controller actions. How can I make this the default? I.e., I'd like to be able to write def new Post.find(params[:id]) end and have the functionality be def show Post.find(params[:id]) render :layout => !request.xhr? end (I'm fine manually specifying a layout in the rare cases in which I want to use one.)

  • Increasing the width of the autocomplete extender list

    - by Kumar
    I have an ASP.NET AJAX autocomplete extender with CompletionListCssClass=autocomplete_completionListElement : .autocomplete_completionListElement { width:500px; margin : 0px!important; background-color : inherit; color : windowtext; border : buttonshadow; border-width : 1px; border-style : solid; overflow :auto; height : 200px; text-align : left; } But for some odd reason the width of the auto complete list always takes up the width of the textbox even when I set the width to 500px. Is there a way to fix this?

  • loading HTML fragments with jQuery

    - by sam
    Hi everybody, I'm very new to jQuery, Ajax and things like these. I've found solutions on how to inject HTML fragments into my site: $(document).ready(function(){ $('a').click(openContent); //binding all anchors to this function }); function openContent(){ var path = $(this).attr('href'); $('#content').load(path); return false; //to prevent browser from loading the single HTML fragment } That works really fine! The problem is, these function won't be executed when clicking on anchors located in the new HTML fragment which were injected right before. So the fragment won't get injected into div, the browser will only load the fragment for itself. Hope there are solutions which aren't that tricky... thanks sam

  • Modify url for bookmarking using JavaScript

    - by jamesaharvey
    I'm exploring my options for modifying urls in the browser bar for bookmarking purposes. Ideally, I'd like to add querystring parameters and cannot determine if this is even possible. I don't want the page to refresh and want to add querystring values on link clicks, ajax calls, etc. If I can't add querystring parameters, then I'd like to add hash values (http:://someurl.com#hash-value). How should I go about doing this? Should I use plain JavaScript or a framework (jquery, prototype, etc.) and/or framework plugin.

  • Communication between Page and User Controls

    - by Narmatha Balasundaram
    I have a main page that has multiple user controls on it. All the user controls have static text and some data to be retrieved from the DB. The aysnchronous DB call is clubbed at the page level and one call is made to avoid multiple calls (in the different user controls) to get the same data. I want the page and user controls to load initially with the static text and later refresh the contents obtained from the server. To sum it all up, Page Loads = Asyn calls fired on page load = Data received back from the server (XML/text/whatever) = User controls to load with this data using AJAX. What methods do I have to let the user controls know that I have the data from the server and they need to update with this data?
