What is the event handler in Java (using net beans, Swing) that resembles the Paint in C#?
The event which shall be fired when the form is restored, resized ... etc
I was surprised to see in the Java source that System.arraycopy is a native method.
Of course the reason is because it's faster. But what native tricks is the code able to employ that make it faster?
Why not just loop over the original array and copy each pointer to the new array - surely this isn't that slow and cumbersome?
Thanks,

Anyone know of a good library to invoke powershell scripts from within Java? I'm currently spawning a seperate process (powershell.exe) and then parse the output, but it would really be nice if I can leverage Powershell's 'power' by getting objects back from a powershell call.
Edit:
Otherwise, anyone else doing such interop? What method do you use?
JavaMail requires that you specify an external SMTP server when sending mail. I want to have my java app send email directly without having to use an external SMTP server such as postfix or sendmail.
Can anyone recommend a library which provides this kind of functionality?
Ive done some googling and have come up with nothing.
The Java Virtual Machine supports several garbage collection strategies.
This article explains them.
Now I am wondering which (automatically selected) strategy my application is using, is there any way to let the JVM(version 1.6) print this information?

Hi there,

In Java is there an equivalent to the C# "using" statement allowing to define a scope for an object:
using (AwesomeClass hooray = new AwesomeClass)
{
// Great code
}
This has probably allready been asked but the keywords make it difficult to find a relevant question.
Hello,
I'm working on a project and need a simple free java HTML wysiwyg editor can anyone point me in the right direction?.
It only has a small space to fit into, so something fairly simple would be best.
Thanks for the help!
This is, I suppose, a very simple question for any Java programmer.
My question is as simple as this:
When the user clicks a button, I want to show a popup form that should have at least two JTextFields and two JLabels, so using JOptionPane.showInputDialog is not a possibility.
Thanks.
I know use System.exit(0) can end a java program, for instance, if I have a JFrame window, it will close and end the program, but I wonder how many other ways, can it be closed and the program be ended ? Including when an error occurs, will the program be shut down and the JFrame be closed ?
Can you take a subclass object and somehow convert it to an object of the same type as the parent class and at the same time slicing all the fields that are not part of the parent class?
I know you can do this in C++, but I have no idea how to do it in Java.
Hi
We can resrict the creation of object of a class by making it's constructor private.
But this constructor could still be called from within the class.
is there anyway to prevent this in Java?
Thnx.
Is there any Java profiler that allows profiling short-lived applications? The profilers I found so far seem to work with applications that keep running until user termination. However, I want to profile applications that work like command-line utilities, it runs and exits immediately. Tools like visualvm or NetBeans Profiler do not even recognize that the application was ran.
I am looking for something similar to Python's cProfile, in that the profiler result is returned when the application exits.
I need to read a Excel 2007 xlsx file in a java application. Does anyone know of a good api to accomplish this task?

Why does java.lang.Object have two notify methods - notify and notifyAll? It seems that notifyAll does at least everything notify does, so why not just use notifyAll all the time? If notifyAll is used instead of notify, is the program still correct, and vice versa? What influences the choice between these two methods?
