• Transferring data to (Windows) Mobile Devices

  I created an app for Windows Mobile 6.5 and am fairly happy with it. However, if anyone else need to use this app, they will have to transfer an initial file (txt or csv) to the device. For a developer this isn't a problem but is this too much to ask of an end user? Granted, they will want to move (sync) data back to their desktop after the device's data have been updated. So how do other apps solve this problem? Do I need to provide some kind of syncing software?

  I have some code I use to transfer a table1 values to another table2, they are sitting in different database. It's slow when I have 100.000 records. It takes forever to finish, 10+ minutes. • Are there any was to link my program with Wine-compiled part?

  I am trying to use windows dll functionality in Linux. My current solution is a compilation of a separate wine application, that uses dll and transfer requests/responses between dll and main application over IPC. This works, but is a real overhead comparing to a simple dll calls. I see that wine-compiled program usually is a bootstrapping-script and some .so, which (according to file utility) is normal linux dynamically linked library. Are there any way to link that .so directly to my application? Are there any manual?

  Hello Geeks, I am developing some tool for BI. There are terms like Fact, Dimensions and Measures. My application will connect to the normal database and read the data from that table. Now, I want to convert all this data into columnar database. That is all the columns from this table will be transfer into 3 tables each. Consider below table:- ID Product 1 XYZ 2 ABC 3 ABC Now, I want to convert the Product column i.e. dimension into 3 tables. dim_product_table:- ID Product 1 XYZ 2 ABC dim_product_fmk(fact map by key):- Where we will store key-value pair of Key Row 1 1 1 2 2 3 dim_product_fmr(fact map by row):- The above table will be reversed. • Cutting up videos (excerpting) on Mac OS X -- iMovie produces super-large files

  I need to cut out parts of a video (+ the associated audio, of course) to make a short clip. For example, take 2 minutes from one location, 3 minutes from another part of the video, 30 seconds from another location and join it all together to form one single clip. The format of the input video is mp4 (H.264 encoding, AFAICR). Don't need very sophisticated merges or transitions from one part to the next, or sophisticated banners (text) on-screen, but some ability to do so would be a plus point. I've done this with iMovie in the past, but where the original file was under 5MB/min of play time, the chopped-up version was over 11MB/min of play time, which to me seems really bad. Is there a better/different way of doing this on OS X? Looking for free (gratis) solutions. OS: OS X 10.9.3

• Passing a web service an unknown number of parameters

  I'm relatively new to utilizing web services. I'm trying to create one that will be accepting data from a ASP.Net form whose input controls are created dynamically at runtime and I don't how many control values will be getting passed. I'm thinking I'll be using jQuery's serialize() on the form to get the data, but what do I have the web service accept for a parameter? I thought maybe I could use serializeArray(), but still I don't know what type of variable to accept for the JavaScript array. Finally, I was thinking that I might need to create a simple data transfer object with the data before sending it along to the web service. I just didn't wanna go through with the DTO route if there was a much simpler way or an established best practice that I should follow. Thanks in advance for any direction you can provide and let me know I wasn't clear enough, or if you have any questions.

• Chinese Characters in email sent via PHP not showing up.

  hi All, a funny problem. I send mail via PHP from my testing server with Chinese chars in it and it sends perfectly. Encoding is utf-8. When I upload the same PHP file to another server and try to send from there, the e-mail will look 90% fine in one mail client (web-based mail actually, gmail), but in my mail client (Apple Mail) it's all gibberish even when I try changing the encoding in the mail client. I'm stuck here because everything works fine on one server, but not on another so I'm not sure where to start looking for solutions. What's even more puzzling is that on the production server, the mail looks somewhat ok (strange case of some characters not showing) but in other mail apps it looks like garbage. any idea where I can start looking to solve this? thanks for any help here! • Visual Studio 2010: Is it possible to force editor to use ANSI rather than UTF-8?

  I am having issues with some files in automated processes, specifically with batch files and sql files. Visual Studio seems to create these as UTF-8 rather than ansi and adds some kind of special characters to the beginning of the file (I think this is a called a pre-amble) This breaks running batch files and running swl files through osql.exe. I have had issues myself in the past in creating text files using C#, but can get around that through encoding. However its seems a bit strange I cant use Visual studio to create batch files and sql files in a database project for automation.

  Can anyone tell me how to show animated progress bar while the data from an Excel sheet to a SQL database table is being transfered? I have a form in .aspx page. In that form, there is one FileUpload control that uploads an Excel file. While uploading that file and saving it on the server at the same time I'm transferring the data from the Excel sheet to a SQL table. During this transfer, I want to show a ProgressBar and after transferring all data it will be removed automatically.. Is there something I can do to achieve this?

And I figured, that there must be some patterns for this, as it is a pretty important area? The application that we're developing, is layered traditionally, having data layer (Entity Framework 4) repositories domain layer service layer (can be WCF, with data transfer objects) multiple clients consuming the WCF service (ASP.NET [MVC], Silverlight, WPF) and clients accessing a service layer directly (no WCF) Are there books/articles/blogs that dig deeply into this area? • Migrating Data to MSSQL 2008

  I am trying to migrate data from an Informix database to MSSQL 2008. I've got quite a lot of data to move. I've been try multiple methods to get the data over, and so far SQLBulkCopy in multiple chunks seems to be the fastest that I can find. Does anyone know of a faster means of getting the data over? I'm trying to cut down on the transfer time so that on my cut-over date I don't run out of time to do the full cut-over. Thanks.

  I am building a taxi dispatching app first: I need the passenger app to show the nearest taxis, now I know how to do that in code but in my way I have to go through all the taxis locations(in database on server) and calculate the distance from the passenger location and get the lowest ones - I don't want to do this because there will be a lot of taxis and going through all of them and making some math is kind of pain on the server- is there a way to get the nearest ones without going through all of them? second: what the best database to use - first, should it be sql or non-sql - I need a very robust database, because there will be a lot of updates (I mean the passengers locations added then deleted when arriving to destination && the taxis location changes frequently) finally: I will use RubyOnRails to do the server side and json as data transfer format, do you have a recommendation to me on something better?   I've got a bunch of duplicate messages in my IMAP server's Maildir. What's the best way to remove them? Some relevant points: Shared Message-ID is usually a good enough definition of duplicate. A tiny script that removes all but one of the duplicate messages would work. Sometimes it's necessary to find duplicates based on shared message bodies. What's a reasonable definition of shared here? Bitwise equivalent? What about weird differences in line wrapping, escaping, character encoding? Sometimes there's some meaningful difference between 'duplicate' messages. What's the best way to review the differences in sets of 'duplicate' messages? Diffs?

• How do I correctly display special characters in my Firefox browser?

  (Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows XP) Every once in a while I notice an odd character on certain web pages when browsing the web. It is a outline of a box with a 4-digit number inside. And example of a page that has these characters is: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/#highlights After each section heading (Elastic, Completely Controlled, ...) I see a box with the number "0096" inside. I looked at the cached version on Google, and google has &ndash; in it's place, so I'm guessing I should be seeing a dash there instead of the box with the numbers in it. I have tried changing the character encoding in Firefox but haven't been able to find one that shows these characters correctly. Is there a way to allow Firefox to view these characters?   Its seems that everybody says that it is possible to send over 126 chars of data over websocket. I looked at many websocket server examples on the web and non of them can transfer over 126 chars from client to server and from server to client. I understand that it is something with dataframes and opcodes but i never figured it out. I'm using C#. Can somebody please put some light on this subject? any code example for receiving and sending data over 126 chars will be very very thankful

• How prevent anyone from stealing my shared_ptr?

  So, I use boost::shared_ptr for all the various reference-counting benefits it provides -- reference counting for starters, obviously, but also the ability to copy, assign, and therefore store in STL Containers. The problem is, if I pass it to just one "malicious" function or object, the object can save the ptr and then I'll never be able to de-allocate it without the foreign function or object nicely relinquishing its ownership. Ultimately, I try to keep object ownership explicit. I accomplish this by having the owner keep the only shared_ptr to the object, and "guest" objects only store weak_ptrs to the object. I really don't want the "shared" part of shared_ptr, but I'm required to use shared_ptr in order to make weak_ptrs. I want to use scoped_ptr, but it's extremely limited since you can't copy it. You can't store it in a container, you can't lend out weak_ptrs from it, and you can't transfer ownership to a new manager. What's the solution?

• Are there any way to link my program with Wine-compiled part?

  I am trying to use windows dll functionality in Linux. My current solution is a compilation of a separate wine application, that uses dll and transfer requests/responses between dll and main application over IPC. This works, but is a real overhead comparing to a simple dll calls. I see that wine-compiled program usually is a bootstrapping-script and some .so, which (according to file utility) is normal linux dynamically linked library. Are there any way to link that .so directly to my application? Are there any manual?
