• How to search for closest value in a lookup table?

  I have a simple one dimmensional array of integer values that represent a physical set of part values I have to work with. I then calculate and ideal value mathematically. How could I write an efficient search algorithm that will find the smallest abosulte difference from my ideal value in the array? The array is predetermined and constant, so it can be sorted however I need. Example Lookup array: 100, 152, 256, 282, 300 Searching for an ideal value of 125 would find 100 in the array, whereas 127 would find 152. The actual lookup array will be about 250 items long and never change.

  I'm fetching data from iCloud and for that I need to generate a header (azure table storage). I used the code below for that and it is generating the headers. But when I use these headers in my project it is showing "make sure that the value of authorization header is formed correctly including the signature."   I'm currently trying to write a script in RoR to go into my PGAdmin database and look at a list of users, THEN ignore users that have an image path but look at users who don't have one and then upload a link of a generic photo into their row. My database looks Something like this: id integer | name | email | image path | 12 Bob [email protected] www.faces.org 81 Sally [email protected] 114 Mark [email protected] www.faces.org How would I start grabbing those users, I only have 103 users right now, but I also need to think about scaling for the future.   In short, how to add minutes to a datetime from an integer located in another table, in one select statement, by joining them? I have a table P(int id, ..., int minutes) and a table S(int id, int p_id, datetime start) I want to generate a view that gives me PS(S.id, P.id, S.start + P.minutes) by joining S.p_id=P.id The problem is, if I was generating the query from the application, I can do stuff like: select datetime('2010-04-21 14:00', '+20 minutes'); 2010-04-21 14:20:00 By creating the string '+20 minutes' in the application and then passing it to sqlite. However I can't find a way to create this string in the select itself: select p.*,datetime(s.start_at, formatstring('+%s minutes', p.minutes)) from p,s where s.p_id=p.id; Because sqlite as far the documentation tells, does not provide any string format function, nor can I see any alternative way of expressing the date modifiers.

• Facebook user_id as MongoDB BSON ObjectId?

  I'm rebuilding Lovers on Facebook with Sinatra & Redis. I like Redis because it doesn't have the long (12-byte) BSON ObjectIds and I am storing sets of Facebook user_ids for each user. The sets are requests_sent, requests_received, & relationships, and they all contain Facebook user ids. I'm thinking of switching to MongoDB because I want to use it's geospatial indexing. If I do, I'd want to use the FB user ids as the _id field because I want the sets to be small and I want the JSON responses to be small. But, is the BSON ObjectId better (more efficient for MongoDB) to use than just an integer (fb user_id)?

  I'm using two class NiceCustomer & RoughCustomer which implment the interface ICustomer. The ICustomer has four properties. They are: 1) Property Id() As Integer 2) Property Name() As String 3) Property IsNiceCustomer() As Boolean 4) ReadOnly Property AddressFullText() As String I don't know how to map the interface ICustomer, to the database. If I supply the upper_catalog as NULL, then expectedly JPA inserts a NULL value to that database column. How could I force the null values to be 0 when writing to the database and the other way around when reading from the database?

I want to do the following: Only admins (a user has a user_role(integer) -- 1 = admin, 2 = moderator, 3 = user) can see and access a link for the admin panel. So I created an admin_controller.   Hi, I'd like to write a method that can accept a type param (or whatever the method can figure out the type from) and return a value of this type so I don't have to cast the return type. Here is a method: public Object doIt(Object param){ if(param instanceof String){ return "string"; }else if(param instanceof Integer){ return 1; }else{ return null; } } When I call this method, and pass in it a String, even if I know the return type will be a String I have to cast the return Object.   I'm trying to open an image file in python and add that data to an sqlite table. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

My CodeBlocks (on windows) with MinGW [gcc 4.4] gives compile time error. that "error: array bound is not an integer constant. Then how can be such a solution be accepted by CodeChef's judge.   i'm trying to wrap my head around how to enterprise up my code: taking a simple routine and splitting it up into 5 or 6 methods in 3 or 4 classes. i quickly came up three simple examples of code how i currently write it. Could someone please convert these into an MVC/MVP obfuscated version? Example 1: The last name is mandatory. Color the text box red if nothing is entered. Without any understanding of they why it's being one some way, it makes no sense. And using the words model, view, controller and presenter, like i'm supposed to know what that means, doesn't help. The model is your data. The view shows data on screen. The controller is used to carry out the users actions And oranges taste orangy. Here's my attempt at splitting things up in order to make the code more difficult to follow.   Consider the 0/1 knapsack problem. The standard Dynamic Programming algorithm applies only when the capacity as well as the weights to fill the knapsack with are integers/ rational numbers. What do you do when the capacity/weights are irrational? The issue is that we can't memoize like we do for integer weights because we may need potentially infinite decimal places for irrational weights - leading to an infinitely large number of columns for the Dynamic Programming Table . Is there any standard method for solving this? Any comments on the complexity of this problem? Any heuristics? What about associated recurrences like (for example): f(x)=1, for x< sqrt(2) f(x)=f(x-sqrt(2))+sqrt(3)

• Can a regex return a match that's not a part of the original string?

  I'm using an application that requires me to provide a regex for various files. It uses the matches from the regex to uniquely identify each file and then use a data store to retrieve metadata about these files. there is however a problem with the application, so it assumes that the data which is used to identify each file is only numeric data. Hence, it stores the results of matches in integers. I control the data store but not the names of the files. Since the application has a bug in it, I was hoping that I could use an encoding scheme to convert the non-numeric data to an integer. But for that I'd require the regex to return something that's not part of the original string as a match. Is this possible?
