  • Figuring out Host's Top Domain with Javascript

    Is there a way to figure out what the top domain for the hostname of the current page is? The problem I have is that the script could be on .com domain, or in an international domain like .co.uk So for: jobs.telegraph.co.uk - top domain is:telegraph.co.uk jobs.nytimes.com - top domain is nytimes.com The problem is that location.hostname , and the document.domain give the entire domain. One route is to have a list of all TLDs (too much to carry around) and parse based on that. Another route was if 2 characters after last ".", than internationaltion - hence last two are the TLD, but that does not hold true for all international domains.

  • Resizing iframe height using javascript issue

    I have an iframe which content is a php-file, and that php-file displays some mysql records. The more records, the larger the iframe height should get, otherwise it wont show all of the information in the iframe. Here is a code I have for dynamically setting the iframe height, from the iframes content (the php file): var x = document.body.scrollHeight; x = x + 20 + 'px'; window.parent.document.getElementById("iframe001").style.height=x; iframe001 is the iframe I am referring to above. I am adding 20px of height extra because of borders etc... Now, sometimes this resizing works, sometimes it doesn't. Does anybody know why it works sometimes. If I alert the 'x' variable, it shows different values sometimes, but most times it works. Any other ways you know of setting the iframes height from the content of the iframe? Thanks

    I have a looping function creating: <li id="id1" name="Tag1,Tag2,Tag3"> <li id="id2" name="Tag1,Tag2,Tag3"> $.each(data.posts, function(i, post){ $('<li >', {id: this.id , name: post.tags}) }); How do I replace the commas between the tags with spaces. Also is there a way I can send the tags to a "class" attribute instead of "name". It seems to not work in Safari.

  • How to save text to a div using JavaScript onmouseout

    Good morning all. I have a div that I'm able to save text to when I click a save button but what I would like is if the text would just automatically save on an onmouseout event. For example: I have a div and two buttons (Save and Cancel). The user is currently able to mouse over the current text data inside the div, click on the text and they can then edit said text. The only way they can save this text is by clicking the save button. Is there a way to use onmouseout to save the text so that the user simply has to click and edit the text, then click away and have it saved? Thanks!

If you have a plain html input type=text with a small width eg 20 and then type more characters than can be displayed, it shows the last characters you type. And the first ones are scrolled out of view: This is my long text // this is the whole string my long string // this is what is actually visible in the input box How do I make it so that when you hit tab, the view area resets so that the start of the string is visible and the end is hidden? my long string // this is what is visible in the input box when typing This is my // this is what is I want to be visible in the input box after you hit tab What do you call this, and how do you do it?

  • iframe problem using javascript

    Does anyone know how to get the HTML out of an IFRAME? I have tried several different ways: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentDocument.body.innerHTML, document.frames['iframe01'].document.body.innerHTML, document.getElementById('iframe01').contentWindow.document.body.innerHTML, etc but none of them worked. I believe the reason they're not working is that the content of my iframe doesn't have a body tag (I'm loading XML). Any other way to get all the contents of the iframe? I am open to jQuery too. This: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentWindow.document.body.innerHTML works fine in the IE, but this: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentDocument.body.innerHTML does not work for FF.

    I have this authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+ '<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>'; It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here?     parseInt("7em", 10); returns 7 in all browsers I tested [*]. But can I rely on this? The reason I ask is, that I want to perform some calculations based on em, like /* elem1.style.top uses em units */ elem2.style.top = parseInt(elem1.style.top, 10) + 1 + "em"; I could do this with regular expressions, but parseInt is easier to use, and probably a bit faster. Or is there another solution (maybe using jQuery)? [*] Tested so far on: IE 6, IE 8, Safari 4, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5

    Hi, so I know there are tons of ways to simulate inheritance and other OO features. I have chosen one to use for my project and am wondering if I can create an instance and add stuff to it and keep it contained (within braces). Consider the following: function BaseClass(){ <this.stuff here> } function SubClass(){ this.superClass = BaseClass(); this.superClass(); <this.other stuff here> } myObj = new SubClass(); so myObj is an instance of SubClass. I can add things to myObj like: myObj.blah = "funtimes"; What I would like is to be able to add stuff to the "instance" and keep it organized in braces much like the constructor. psuedo code like: myObj = new SubClass() { var blah = "funtimes" <more instance specific stuff here> } Is something like this possible? The data is a set of numbers that change every day, our journalists work to get hard gather it. Is there any way to hide, crypt, etc. the data in a way that it cannot be reused by others? But to show it in a graph in the same time? I found the ASCII to HEX tool that could be used for (http://utenti.multimania.it/ascii2hex/). I wonder if you can suggest other ways.     Hello I have a simple simulated aarray with two elements: bowl["fruit"]="apple"; bowl["nuts"]="brazilian"; I can access the value with an event like this: onclick="testButton00_('fruit')">with `testButton00_` function testButton00_(key){ var t = bowl[key]; alert("testButton00_: value = "+t); } However whenever I try to access the aarray from within code with a key that is just a non-explicit string I get undefined. Do I have somehow have to pass the parameter with the escaped 'key'. Any ideas? tia.

  • How to dynamically add a Javascript function (and invoke)

    Based on a click event on the page, via ajax I fetch a block of html and script, I am able to take the script element and append it to the head element, however WebKit based browsers are not treating it as script (ie. I cannot invoke a function declared in the appended script). Using the Chrome Developer Tools I can see that my script node is indeed there, but it shows up differently then a script block that is not added dynamically, a non-dynamic script has a text child element and I cannot figure out a way to duplicate this for the dynamic script. Any ideas or better ways to be doing this? The driving force is there is potentially a lot of html and script that would never be needed unless a user clicks on a particular tab, in which case the relevant content (and script) would be loaded.
