    When im inserting to the database on my dev server the text goes in fine, for example "that's" is "that's" in the db. when uploading the exact same code to production server (hosted on a reseller account at bluehost) "that's" becomes "that\'s", im not double escaping, its exactly the same code, what could be the issue here?

  • Ruby On Rails on Windows - Linux VM or dual boot

    I am a windows developer currently getting into Rails. While you can develop on RoR Windows, it's not the ideal experience. Things are glitchy and running cucumber tests are painfully slow. So, would I be able to have a decent dev experience running Linux in a VM for doing RoR development, or should I bite the bullet and just do a dual boot - Windows 7 / Linux?

  • Export symbol as png

    I'd like to export plotting symbols form R as a png graphic. But I haven't found a perfect way yet. Using png("symbol.png",width=20, height=20, bg="transparent") par(mar=c(0,0,0,0)) plot.new() symbols(1, 1, circles=0.3, bg=2, inches=FALSE, lwd=2, bty="n") dev.off() creates a little border around the symbol (I'd like it to be transparent) and the symbol isn't filling the whole space. Is there a more specific way of doing this ?

  • Is it bad practice to use an enum that maps to some seed data in a Database?

    I have a table in my database called "OrderItemType" which has about 5 records for the different OrderItemTypes in my system. Each OrderItem contains an OrderItemType, and this gives me referential integrity. In my middletier code, I also have an enum which matches the values in this table so that I can have business logic for the different types. My dev manager says he hates it when people do this, and I am not exactly sure why. Is there a better practice I should be following?

    I have a folder(/MyFolder/) with a dedicated web.config in it that does an impersonating In that folder I have an asp.net file that use Microsoft report viewer 8.0 named MyReport.aspx When I view this folder on my machine, it's working perfectly without issue When I publish my project to the dev server and I'm trying to view the report, I have an issue where the the user that run IIS doesn't have access to something, (rsAccessDenied) Can asp.net routing cause this issue? (I'm not at work right now so I can only go by memory so it will be hard to provide more information)

    Is there an easy way to setup an environment on one machine (or a VM) with MySQL replication? I would like to put together a proof of concept of MySQL replication with one Master write instance and two slave instances for reads. I can see doing it across 2 or 3 VMs running on my computer, but that would really bog down my system. I'd rather have everything running on the same VM. What's the best way to proof out scalability solutions like this in a local dev environment? Thanks for your help, Dave

  • Ruby 1.9 Ramaze App Failing with "Illegal instruction"

    I've got an app that I'm trying to get working again after wiping my system and installing Snow Leopard. I installed Ruby 1.9 from Macports (now a later version) and the dev server starts up just fine, but then dies on the first request, only telling me "Illegal instruction". I have no idea what's causing this or even how to go about debugging it. Does anyone have any ideas?

    I am using Lightbox Plus for wordpress. My captions are spilling over and overlapping the picture when the image is in lightbox mode. The captions are covering the image and the close link, as well as being off-center.     Hi there, I've inherited a set of Silverlight 2 applications (new job), one of which needs upgrading. We can do the updates in code without problems, but the available dev machines all appear to be running Silverlight 3. I can't seem to find Silverlight 2 tools for download any more - is there a way to multi-target Silverlight the same way we can multi-target older versions of the main CLR? thanks Toby

When I'm ready to push patches or whole new versions I'm currently copying the files individually, is there a program that can help me do this task? I was looking at the timeline for my page loading and I saw that there is a 150ms delay due to some garbage collection taking place while loading the page. http://cl.ly/cce10619c698a5b276e2 It's the yellow line.   • Current tasks count at Appengine Task Queue

    Are there any ways to get count of current unfinished tasks at Google Appengine development server? I need it for making my integration test. I found a way to get this when running it local (just in mem), as described at appengine docs. But when i'm running it as a standalone server, from maven, this doesn't work. Just because library appengine-testing conflicts with Appengine SDK classes, and i can't use those classes together, when running sdk dev server.
