    A remote installed application has some encoding problems and on my local machine it is running fine. What is the best way to "copy" my locales to the remote machine?   • Rotate to a set degree then reverse and repeat in Unity

    and thank you for your time. I'm making my first project in Unity, a simple game where touching objects adds points to the players score. I'd like the objects to have a pleasant back and forth swaying animation on the Z axis. Nodding to the right 30 degrees, then to the left 30 degrees, on and on. Here's what I've got... public class Rotator : MonoBehaviour { void Update () { transform.Rotate(new Vector3(0,0,12)*Time.deltaTime); } } This gives me a nice slow rotation. But I am clueless how to tell Unity to stop at +30 degrees, reverse to -30 degrees, rotate again to +30, stop and repeat, etc, etc. I'd really appreciate any help. Maybe there is a thread like this that I was not able to find? I assume it will involve some kind of 'if than' function? Thank you, Ryan

  • Set Firefox to Be On Top of Other Windows

    Sometimes you need to keep a close watch on a website and have Firefox remain in view regardless of the other apps running. See how you can keep Firefox in constant view with the Always on Top extension. Before If you have a webpage that you like to watch throughout the day but have a very busy desktop then Firefox can get lost in all of the clutter. Note: You can read about the ReloadEvery extension here. Even with a widescreen monitor sometimes there is just not enough room to keep everything in easy view while you are working on something. Always on Top in Action Once you have installed the extension you will notice that a new Toolbar Button has automatically been added to your Navigation Toolbar. At the moment this is the only on/off switch for the extension. Clicking on the Toolbar Button will enable Always on Top and the button will change to a blue color to indicate its’ active status. Click on it again to disable it. Do anything that you like in the other windows…Firefox will still be the topmost window and easy to view. Conclusion The Always on Top extension was made to do just one thing and it does it very well…keeping your Firefox window on top. Being able to turn it on or off without digging through a bunch of menus adds that extra level of convenience.   • Ad-hoc taxonomy: owning the chess set doesn't mean you decide how the little horsey moves

    There was one of those little laugh-or-cry moments recently when I heard an anecdote about content strategy failings at a major online retailer. The story goes a bit like this: successful company in a highly commoditized marketplace succeeds on price and largely ignores its content team. Being relatively entrepreneurial, the founders are still knocking around, and occasionally like to "take an interest". One day, they decree that clothing sold on the site can no longer be described as "unisex", because this sounds old fashioned. Sad now. Let me just reiterate for the folks at the back: large retailer, commoditized market place, differentiating on price. That's inherently unstable. Sooner or later, they're going to need one or both of competitive differentiation and significant optimization. I can't speak for the latter, since I'm hypothesizing off a raft of rumour, but one of the simpler paths to the former is to become - or rather acknowledge that they are - a content business. Regardless, they need highly-searchable terminology. Even in the face of tooth and claw resistance to noticing the fundamental position content occupies in driving sales (and SEO) on the web, there's a clear information problem here. Dilettante taxonomy is a disaster. Ok, so this is a small example, but that kind of makes it a good one. Unisex probably is the best way of describing clothing designed to suit either men or women interchangeably. It certainly takes less time to type (and read). It's established terminology, and as a single word, it's significantly better for web readability than a phrasal workaround. Something like "fits men or women" is short, by could fall foul of clause-level discard in web scanning. It's not an adjective, so for intuitive reading it's never going to be near the start of a title or description. It would also clutter up search results, and impose cognitive load in list scanning. Sorry kids, it's just worse. Even if "unisex" were an archaism (which it isn't), the only thing that would weigh against its being more usable and concise terminology would be evidence that this archaism were hurting conversions. Good luck with that. We once - briefly - called one of our products a "Can of worms". It was a bundle in a bug-tracking suite, and we thought it sounded terribly cool. Guess how well that sold. We have information and content professionals for a reason: to make sure that whatever we put in front of users is optimised to meet user and business goals. If that thinking doesn't inform style guides, taxonomy, messaging, title structure, and so forth, you might as well be finger painting.

  • Set up a GUI managed stateful filtering firewall?

    What ways are there of setting up a stateful filtering* firewall whose rules can be managed by a GUI? Can GUFW do it? FireStarter? (or should that be avoided because it is supposedly no longer updated?) *By filtering, I'm mean the traffic I am setting rules up for is not destined for this computer. It is either from or to other computers on my LAN. Say, for (a simplified, hypothetical) example: I have an ethernet connection at my dorm that I have plugged into eth0. It gets an address of 192.168.1.185 and I also have 192.168.185.0/24 routed to me, so I don't have to do any NAT. I have a hub attached to my second ethernet port (eth1) with a few Windows computers and I give addresses out of my 192.168.185.0/24 block with DHCP. How can I use my Ubuntu box to block incoming connections from eth0 that are being routed to my Windows computers and let through just a few specific ports (so fellow students can't see what files my Windows boxes are sharing via SMB)?

    Currently I'm in a new building of my university. In this building my wifi often breaks down and then restores connection again. This is really irritating since it happens a lot. Now as a coincidence there were some tech guys running around here and where asking everyone if the wifi was doing fine. I told them that my wifi tears down all the time and then reconnects. They figured out that my wifi is switching all the time between the 2.4 GHz channel and 5 GHz channel. They asked me if I could acces the driver settings of my wireless card. Unfortunately I don't know how to do this is in either Linux or Windows. And unfortunately again they only knew the windows solution xD. So I hope somebody can tell me how I tell my wifi that it should stay on the 5 GHz network and not disconnect and switch to the 2.4 GHz channel?

  • How to set default xrandr settings?

    I'm trying to enable dual monitors in Ubuntu. This is working fine, but every time I do it, desktop effects is disabled. I think I've found the reason why, though: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Multihead/ As with the GNOME XRandR configuration method, setting Virtual to too large a value may result in a loss of hardware acceleration, and thus an inability to use Compiz and its desktop effects. When I use the GNOME monitor applet, or the Monitors configuration in the System menu, the default xrandr settings puts the second monitor to the right of the first, and, as I found with this bug, for most monitors this creates a virtual desktop larger than the maximum 2048 horizontal resolution needed for hardware acceleration on my netbook hardware. So, it seems like if I can modify xrandr's default settings so that it places the new desktop above or below (north or south of) the main LVDS display, then hardware acceleration, and therefore compiz will continue to work. Can anyone tell me, what is the easiest way to achieve this? UPDATE: I have confirmed that multihead support with desktop effects and hardware acceleration works when I move the external monitor display north of the main LVDS display. Right now this involves the following process: plugging in the external monitor, starting the Monitors configuration menu, desktop effects are disabled automatically (and all of the windows on my workspaces are moved to the first workspace), repositioning the external display so that it is north of LVDS display and clicking apply, and then navigating to the Appearance menu and telling it to reenable desktop effects. Is there a simpler way do this? UPDATE 2: OK, so I thought that perhaps the GNOME Monitors configuration screen was trying to be clever, and might be disbling desktop effects. So, I just tried using the xrandr command-line client instead, as follows: xrandr --output VGA1 --above LVDS1 When I do that, desktop effects are still disabled, and I need to manually reenable them. This, despite the fact that hardware acceleration works, and there is never a point where hardware acceleration stops working because the horizontal dimension of the virtual display is too large. So what program is trying to be clever, and is turning off desktop effects when it doesn't need to? And how do I make it stop? If there were a way to re-enable desktop effects from the command line, which I could then put into a script along with the proper xrandr invocation, I would accept that as a workaround. UPDATE 3: OK, here's my script to enable a second monitor with desktop effects. It might be evil, I'm not sure: second-monitor.sh xrandr --output VGA1 --above LVDS1 sleep 3 compiz --replace & The sleep statement might not be necessary. If there's a better way to do this, please let me know. UPDATE 4: This is a Dell Mini Inspiron 1012.   • Ubuntu / FileZilla FTP Set Up

    I have successfully installed VSFTPD and I have configured it to allow FTP connection from my Windows laptop running FileZilla. FileZilla is pointing at the directory srv/ftp on my server; the files that are stored in srv/ftp are showing in the Remote Site section of FileZilla. This indicates that it is connecting to my FTP server. What I need to do is point FileZilla toward the directory var/www so that all files that I transfer are visible on my self-hosted website. I cannot find out how to do this. Do I need to perform some updates to the vsftpd.conf file, and if so what do I change? Do I need to perform updates to my FileZilla console? I am comfortable in terms of changing .conf files, port forwarding and setting permissions etc. I just need to know what precisely needs to be changed. Much love...

  • Set a Video as Your Desktop Wallpaper with VLC

    Are you tired of static desktop wallpapers and want something a bit more entertaining? Today we’ll take a look at setting a video as wallpaper in VLC media player. Download and install VLC player. You’ll find the download link below. Open VLC and select Tools > Preferences. On the Preferences windows, select the Video button on the left. Under Video Settings, select DirectX video output from the Output dropdown list. Click Save before exiting and then restart VLC. Next, select a video and begin playing it with VLC. Right-click on the screen, select Video, then DirectX Wallpaper.   You can achieve the same result by selecting Video from the Menu and clicking DirectX Wallpaper.   If you’re using Windows Aero Themes, you may get the warning message below and your theme will switch automatically to a basic theme.   After the Wallpaper is enabled, minimize VLC player and enjoy the show as you work.     When you are ready to switch back to your normal wallpaper, click Video, and then close out of VLC.   Occasionally we had to manually change our wallpaper back to normal. You can do that by right clicking on the desktop and selecting your theme.   Conclusion This might not make the most productive desktop environment, but it is pretty cool. It’s definitely not the same old boring wallpaper!     Currently i'm working on a minigame for android where you have a rotating ball in the center of the display which jumps when touched in the direction of his current angle. I'm simply using a gravity vector and a velocity vector in this way: positionBall = positionBall.add(velocity); velocity = velocity.add(gravity); and velocity.x = (float) Math.cos(angle) * 12; /* 12 to amplify the velocity */ velocity.y = (float) Math.sin(angle) * 15; /* 15 to amplify the velocity */ That works fine. Here comes the problem: I want to make the jump look the same on all possible resolutions. The velocity needs to be scaled in a way that when the ball is thrown straight upwards it will touch the upper display border. When thrown directly left or right the range shall be exactly long enough to touch the left/right display border. Which formula(s) do I need to use and how to implement them correctly?     Hi I am switching constantly between browsers (three different at the moment). So i was also switching default browsers to open my mail / new links etc... I also saw that with the command sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser the browsers have different priorities. So I had the idea that it could be possible that the default browser could be the browser/s that is/are actually open and running! And if two are running, the one with higher priority is chosen. Unluckily I did not find anything.. Is this possible? Would be really great! cheers dmeu

  • How to set acpi=off for installation?

    I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit from a USB created in Windows using the recommended software from pendrivelinux. The USB is tested on two laptops and works fine. The install does not work on my desktop PC, it either hangs with lots of text on the screen, or it just gives me a screen with garbled colors. Right now it hangs on "[3.925311] Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...", but it hangs on different spots every time I try. I know that acpi=off will fix this. On older versions, there used to be a pink screen with the icon of a keyboard, at that screen I could press ESC, and I would then get a long list of languages, I could choose English, and then I would get options for setting acpi=off, then install without any problems. This new install menu does not have those options. The (now black and white) "Installer boot menu"'s advanced options is blank. There simply are no advanced options. If I go to help, then press F6, I get to a help screen describing the different boot parameters. I see examples of writing "Install acpi=off" However, writing "install acpi=off" it gives an error saying "could not find kernel image: install". How can I install Ubuntu 12.04 with acpi=off? (Oh, btw, nothing happens if I press F6 in the "Installer boot menu")

Just to not get anymore confused I am not talking about right clicking a file then changing the "Open With" to the one I want. The option I am looking for affects everything in general, so if I change, for example, the default video player to VLC, all movies will be watched with VLC. I am using Unity.

This file is located in your .NET framework directory and is named aspnet_regsql.exe (example: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regsql.exe). 8. Click Next and choose Configure SQL Server for application services. 9. Click Next and enter the server name and database log in credentials. The server name is the web site pointer address to where your application will be published and the log in credentials are the SQL server user name and password created earlier. 10. Click Next twice and the wizard will take a moment to complete the scripting actions that populate the new database with all the objects necessary to configure the ASP.NET provider.  Once complete, click Finish to close the wizard. 11. Finally, modify the web.config file in your ASP.NET web application to use the database you created.

  • Set Up Google Analytics to Track Domain Alias

    I found this article from Google http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55523 However I'm not sure what happens to the data. Will I be able to determine which domain forwarded to the primary domain using their technique? Or will it simply tranfers all the relevant keyword and other factors to the primary domain but not which domain was originally landed before the 302 redirect. What I need to do is track which domain alias are being used.
