• GWT's JSONParser producing incorrect values for numbers.

  I'm work with GWT and parsing a JSON result from an ASP.NET webservice method that returns a DataTable. I can parse the result into a JSONvalue/JSONObject just fine. The issue I'm having is that one my columns in a DECIMAL(20, 0) and the values that are getting parsed into JSON aren't exact. To demonstrate w/o the need for a WS call, in GWT I threw this together: String jsonString = "{value:4768428229311981600}"; JSONObject jsonObject = JSONParser.parse( jsonString ).isObject(); Window.alert( jsonObject.toString() ); This in turn alerts: {"value":4768428229311982000} I'm under the understanding that GWT's JSONParser is just using eval() to do the parsing, so is this some sort of number/precision issue with JavaScript that I've never been aware of. I'll admit I don't work with numbers that much in JavaScript and I might be able to work around this by changing the .NET WebService to return this column as string, but I'd really rather not do that.   Hi, I just read that C99 has double_t which should be at least wide as double. Does this imply that it gives more precision digits after the decimal place? More than the usual 15 digits for double?. Secondly, how to use it: Is only including #include enough? I read that one has to set the FLT_EVAL_METHOD to 2 for long double. How to do this? As I work with numerical methods, I would like maximum precision without using an arbitrary precision library. Thanks a lot...

  I am looking to access the actual value returned from the server.getRowData returns the value after unformat applied to the value. This results in loss of information. For instance, if a double value is rounded to two decimal places and if I want to populate the form for edit with the original value returned from the server with 6 decimals, how can I get the value returned. for eg: Value returned from server : 12.345678 formatter option for column : formatter: 'number', formatoptions: {thousandsSeparator: ",", decimalPlaces: 2} Value displayed in grid : 12.35 How do I retrieve the value 12.345678 returned from the server. getRowData returns 12.35

• Zend framework currency validation

  How can I validate (a form element in this case) to ensure that the value is a currency? Have looked at Zend_Validate_Float. Needs to check that value is between 0 and 2dp. Ideally locale-aware (as ZVF is) to allow for locale specific formatting (thousands, decimal as comma/dot) Would also want to extend to allow/disallow negative values And provide optional upper/lower limits. Is the key, as I can do 3. and 4. with a chain. Do I need regex?

• DisplayObject.rotation not matching trig functions

  I'm trying to label an animated pie chart, and I've been having a great deal of trouble getting rotated objects to line up with trigonometrically-positioned objects. So, for example, if I have a pie piece that's middle is angle theta and has been rotated n degrees in a tween, and then I try to position a label with code like this: label.x = center.x + Math.cos((theta + n)/180 * Math.PI) * radius; label.y = center.y + Math.sin((theta + n)/180 * Math.PI) * radius; the label is often not aligned with the center of the pie slice. Since I am also zooming in to the pie chart a great deal, the error becomes significant enough that it occasionally causes the label to miss the pie slice altogether. The error seems relatively unpredictable, and it looks a great deal like a rounding error, but I don't see any obvious rounding going on (the trig functions evaluate to ten or so decimal places, which should be more than enough here). How can I get these labels to position correctly?

• Objective c string formatter for distances

  I have a distance as a float and I'm looking for a way to format it nicely for human readers. Ideally, I'd like it to change from m to km as it gets bigger, and to round the number nicely. Converting to miles would be a bonus. I'm sure many people have had a need for one of these and I'm hoping that there's some code floating around somewhere. Here's how I'd like the formats: 0-100m: 47m (as a whole number) 100-1000m: 325m or 320m (round to the nearest 5 or 10 meters) 1000-10000m: 1.2km (round to nearest with one decimal place) 10000m +: 21km If there's no code available, how can I write my own formatter?   Hi, if given two types (Type a, Type b), is there any "nice" way to find out if those two can be compared, summed etc.? I was thinking if the types implement IConvertible, one could convert both to lets say decimal and perform a "Convert.ToDecimal(a) > Convert.ToDecimal(b)" ? I am building an expression evaluator and want to be able to work with any kind of object and thus need to know if a type can be compared to another type (it DOESN'T have to be the same types on both sides. eg. double > int)

  I have a web app with a giant Google Map in it. As users pan and zoom around on the map, points are dynamically loaded through AJAX call which include the viewport bounds (NE and SW corner coordinates) and some other assorted parameters. How do I cache these request for points? The problem is that the parameters are highly variable and (worst) not discrete i.e. floats with a lots of decimal places. I'm using ASP.NET-MVC/C#/LINQ2SQL/SQL-Server but the problem is not tied to that platform. • Reading numeric Excel data as text using xlrd in Python

  Hi guys, I am trying to read in an Excel file using xlrd, and I am wondering if there is a way to ignore the cell formatting used in Excel file, and just import all data as text?   I am looking for a scripting (or higher level programming) language (or e.g. modules for Python or similar languages) for effortlessly analyzing and manipulating binary data in files (e.g. core dumps), much like Perl allows manipulating text files very smoothly. Things I want to do include presenting arbitrary chunks of the data in various forms (binary, decimal, hex), convert data from one endianess to another, etc. That is, things you normally would use C or assembly for, but I'm looking for a language which allows for writing tiny pieces of code for highly specific, one-time purposes very quickly. Any suggestions?

  To make story short, i'm building self-learning banner management system. Users will be able to insert these banners to their site when banners will be shown based on sales/impressions ratio. I have 4 tables Banners bannerID int bannerImage varchar.... SmartBanners smartBannerID int smartBannerArrayID int bannerID int impressionsCount int visibility tinyint (percents) SmartBannerArrays smartBannerArrayID int userID int Statistics bannerID int saleAmountPerDay decimal... Each night i need to generate new "visibility" for each SmartBanner based on whole SmartBannerArray that same user has. So i need to get sum of impressions and sales for each bannerID in SmartBannerArray. All comes to my mind is to use double cursor, one will loop thought SmartBannerArrays get needed values for sum of impressions and sales and then inner loop which will access each SmartBanner and change it's "visibility" percentage based on (sales/impressions)/(sumOfSales/sumOfImpressions)*100 Hope you get the picture... Is there any other way to design better tables or not to use double cursor to avoid server overload ?

  I'm trying to parse a string containing milliseconds like this: string s = "11.05.2010 15:03:08.7718687"; // culture: de-CH DateTime d = DateTime.Parse(s); // works However, for example under the de-DE locale, the decimal separator is a comma (not a dot). So the example becomes: string s = "11.05.2010 15:03:08,7718687"; // culture: de-DE (note the comma) DateTime d = DateTime.Parse(s); // throws a FormatException It is weird to me that DateTime.Parse(s) should throw a FormatException now as it is supposed to use the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture to do the parsing. Even passing the CurrentCulture as an argument explicitly does not help neither. Does anybody have an idea why this does not work? Doesn't parsing take the NumberFormatInfo.NumberDecimalSeparator into account?

• NSSortDescriptor for NSFetchRequest sorting unexpectedly

  My entity has a property (sortOrder) that is of the type Decimal(NSDecimalNumber) but when I execute a fetch request using that property as a key, I get back results in a seemingly random order. If I output the value of the property I get really strange values until I get it's intValue. Example: The first run produces this result. The first value is the raw value of the property. • ORDER BY giving wrong order

  I have an SQL statement in my C# program that looks like: SELECT * FROM XXX.dbo.XXX WHERE Source = 'OH' AND partnum = '1231202085' ORDER BY partnum, Packaging, Quantity When running this query in SQL Server Management, the results are ordered as expected. My first 3 results have the same partnum and Packaging with Quantities of 32.0, 50.8, and 51.0. However, when I run the query from my program, the result set with quantity 50.8 is the first to be returned. The datatype of Quantity is decimal(18,9). I've tried cast, it doesn't appear to be a datatype problem. I cant figure out why its getting the middle quantity.

  I have two cells in SPSS, months is a number of months, years_from_months is the number of years, calculated from the months (decimal: months / 12). What I want is that years_from_months is calculated (and updated) automatically, when I finish entering the months in months, i.e. that I don't have to explicitly call compute manually through the menu. I have defined years_from_months to calculate the years, but at the moment the field only updates when I go to the menu option Transform Compute variable ... and click OK in the window that opens. How can I set up the cell to update automatically (like in Excel)?

  Hi all My Delphi app has created a squence called frame_001.png to frame_100.png. I need that to be compiled into a movie clip. I think perhaps the easiest is to call ffmpeg from the command line, according to their documentation: For creating a video from many images: ffmpeg -f image2 -i foo-%03d.jpeg -r 12 -s WxH foo.avi The syntax foo-%03d.jpeg specifies to use a decimal number composed of three digits padded with zeroes to express the sequence number. It is the same syntax supported by the C printf function, but only formats accepting a normal integer are suitable. From: http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC5 However my files are (lossless) png format, so I have to convert using imagemagick first. My command line is now: ffmpeg.exe -f image2 -i c:\temp\wentelreader\frame_%05d.jpg -r 12 foo.avi But then I get the error: [image2 @ 0x133a7d0]Could not find codec parameters (Video: mjpeg) c:\temp\wentelreader\Frame_C:\VID2EVA\Tools\Mencoder\wentel.bat5d.jpg: could not find codec parameters What am I doing wrong? Alternatively can this be done easily with Delphi?

• Why doesn't an octal literal as a string cast to a number?

  In JavaScript, why does an octal number string cast as a decimal number? I can cast a hex literal string using Number() or +, why not an octal? For instance: 1000 === +"1000" // -> true 0xFF === +"0xFF" // -> true 0100 === +"0100" // -> false - +"0100" gives 100, not 64 I know I can parse with parseInt("0100" [, 8]), but I'd like to know why casting doesn't work like it does with hex and dec numbers. Also, does anyone know why octal literals are dropped from ECMAScript 5th Edition in strict mode?

  Hi, I have a dijit.form.NumberTextBox input field that starts out with these parms: new dijit.form.NumberTextBox({ id: din1, style: "width:60px", constraints: { places: 0, pattern: '######' } }, din1); Everything works great..My question is I would like to change 'places' and 'pattern' parms on the fly. So I wrote this to change 'places' and 'patterns' parms: var myFldObj = dijit.byId(din1); if (myFldObj) { var myConstObj = myFldObj.attr('constraints'); if (myConstObj) { myConstObj.places = 2; myConstObj.pattern = '#####.0'; } } So, after I show the form again, I'd expect the entry field to allow 2 decimal places but the form still acts like places=0 and pattern='######'. When I check the values of 'places' and 'pattern' I get what I'd expect (2 and #####.0). My question: Can you change these values on the fly?? OR Do you have to destroy the original dijit object and recreate with new parms?? Thx!!

  How should I store an Java Enum in JavaDB? Should I try to map the enums to SMALLINT and keep the values in source code only? The embedded database is only used by a single application. Or should I just store the values as DECIMAL? None of these solutions feels good/robust for me. Is there any better alternatives? • Problem with a SQL statement

  I'm trying to enter values into a database table using a form and a PHP function. The PHP seems to be fine as the SQL statement it creates looks okay, but the database always throws up an error. This is the SQL statement that my code has generated (with arbitrary values): INSERT INTO Iteminfo ('itemName', 'itemSeller', 'itemCategory', 'itemDescription', 'itemPrice', 'itemPostage', 'itemBegin', 'itemEnd', 'buynow', 'itemPicture') values ('gorillaz album', 'ben', 'music', 'new one ', '5.00', '1.00', '2010-03-15 14:59:51', '2010-03-16 14:59:51', '0', 'http://www.thefader.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach.jpg') This throws up an error both when I use the PHP function to evaluate the query and also when I use phpMyAdmin to enter the query manually. However, I can't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light on this? All of the fields are VARCHAR values, except for itemPrice and itemPostage (which are stored as DECIMAL(4,2)) and the itemBegin and itemEnd, which are stored as DATETIMEs.
