  • Is there a common practice how to make freeing memory for Garbage Collector easier in .NET?

    I've been thinking if there's a way how to speed up freeing memory in .NET. I'm creating a game in .NET (only managed code) where no significant graphics is needed but still I would like to write it properly in order to not to lose performance for nothing. For example is it useful to assign null value to objects that are not longer needed? I see this in a few samples over Internet. Thanks for answers!

    I want to load third-party jni library in runtime. I've tried to load directly from sdcard. It expectedly failed. I've tried to copy library from sdcard to /data/data/app/ and then System.load(/data/data/libjni.so) It works on HTC HERO, but fails on HTC Legend with Android 2.1. it fails during execution of native code and write to log uninformative stack trace Any other way to do it?

  • 301 redirects in .htaccess on apache

    I guess this should be straightforward but my host got me to switch server from zeus to apache following which the .htaccess file with existing individual 301 redirects failed to work causing an internal server error, so have commented them out for the time being. Could someone explain how to set these up to work in their new apache context? Have no apache experience Example redirect: Redirect 301 /pages/exhibitions/thegreatindoors.html http://www.klassnik.com/pages/thegreatindoors.html Read a lot about mod rewrites etc but not sure what to write. A single category contains a list of expense transactions and every expense transaction should have a Category. In this post, we will be focusing on CRUD operations for the entity Category and will be working on the Expense entity with a View Model object in the later post. And the source code for this application will be refactored over time. The above entities are very simple POCO (Plain Old CLR Object) classes and the entity Category is decorated with validation attributes in the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace. Now we want to use these entities for defining model objects for the Entity Framework 4. Using the Code First approach of Entity Framework, we can first define the entities by simply writing POCO classes without any coupling with any API or database library. This approach lets you focus on domain model which will enable Domain-Driven Development for applications. EF code first support is currently enabled with a separate API that is runs on top of the Entity Framework 4. EF Code First is reached CTP 5 when I am writing this article. Creating Context Class for Entity Framework We have created our domain model and let’s create a class in order to working with Entity Framework Code First. For this, you have to download EF Code First CTP 5 and add reference to the assembly EntitFramework.dll. When we are running the application at first time, it will automatically create the database. EF code-first look for a connection string in web.config or app.config that has the same name as the dbcontext class. If it is not find any connection string with the convention, it will automatically create database in local SQL Express database by default and the name of the database will be same name as the dbcontext class. You can also define the name of database in constructor of the the dbcontext class. Unlike NHibernate, we don’t have to use any XML based mapping files or Fluent interface for mapping between our model and database. The model classes of Code First are working on the basis of conventions and we can also use a fluent API to refine our model. The convention for primary key is ‘Id’ or ‘<class name>Id’.  If primary key properties are detected with type ‘int’, ‘long’ or ‘short’, they will automatically registered as identity columns in the database by default. Primary key detection is not case sensitive. We can define our model classes with validation attributes in the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace and it automatically enforces validation rules when a model object is updated or saved. Generic Repository for EF Code First We have created model classes and dbcontext class. Now we have to create generic repository pattern for data persistence with EF code first.   • WPF: Animating TranslateTransform from code

    I have a WPF canvas on which I'm dynamically creating objects from code. These objects are being transformed by setting the RenderTransform property, and an animation needs to be applied one of those transforms. Currently, I can't get properties of any transform to animate (although no exception gets raised and the animation appears to run - the completed event gets raised). In addition, if the animation system is stressed, sometimes the Storyboard.Completed event is never raised. All the examples I've come accross animate the transforms from XAML. MSDN documentation suggests that the x:Name property of a transform must be set for it to be animatable, but I haven't found a working way to set it from code. Any ideas?   • Extending Code Igniter functions to external PHP Scripts

    Hello everybody. I'm doing a small web app, which uses CKeditor for user input, and CKfinder for file management (images/flash). Those who know CKFinder, algo know that the config file for CKFinder as a function named CheckAuthentication() that returns false or true, giving or not permissions to use CKFinder. This is were a Custom PHP Code checks if the user as authorization to access CKFinder or not. Well for my app I'm using Code Igniter, and of course I've created a model were i handle everything about User Permissions, Loggin, Session Cookies, etc. And i also have a function witch its propose is just to check if the user is Logged in. So I would like to know if someone knows a way that i can call the function isLoggedIn() inside the model security from inside the function CheckAuthentication() in CKFinder config file.   • HttpWebRequest gives a SocketException with error code 10050

    Hi everybody I'm pulling my hairs off since two days now because I'm trying to download an image from a website using HttpWebRequest. When I call the method "GetResponse" of that class, I get the WebException "Unable to connect to the remote server.". The inner exception is "A socket operation encountered a dead network 193.63.75.26:80". After some trial and error, I created a new website to test only that portion of code and it works. I thought it could be the proxy settings so I changed settings for both of the websites according to some clues I found googling around but the situation remains the same. Basically the code I execute is this xHttpReq = System.Net.HttpWebRequest.Create(New Uri(uri)) xHttpReq.Timeout = 30000 xHttpResp = xHttpReq.GetResponse() '<-- here's where I get the error xRespStream = xHttpResp.GetResponseStream I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... can someone help me?

  • creating Linq to sqlite dbml from DbLinq source code

    Hi All, I tried to create linq-to-sqlite dbml using DbLinq but in vain. Each time I get different type of errors. May be I'm somewhere wrong. Can anyone tell me the step by step procedure to create the dbml file from the Dblinq source code. Edit: Steps I Followed: I downloaded the source file from this link. Edited the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file in \\DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder as 'DbMetal.exe -database:myDb.db3 -namespace:myNS -code:myCode.cs' -dbml:myDbml.dbml Tried to run the DbMetal project file to produce the executable but there was a runtime error since Options object in Parameters.cs was null. Hence downloaded the readymade exe file from this location Copied it into the \DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder Executed the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file I got a blank screen and Windows Error Msg "DbLinq has stopped Working" Any help?
