Is strcmp() appropriate for comparing ICU collator sort keys in PHP?
The sort keys I'm asking about are from collator_get_sort_key() which are described in ICU documentation.
Can anyone recommend a easy to use php-based graphing script? I've been looking at PHPGraphLib but I imagine there tonnes out there. Commercial or GNU, doesn't matter. Only requirement is image based charts as these will be e-mailed/printed. (no flash)
I need to read a file in PHP, but I only know the end of the filename, so I need to serch the file in a given directory using wildcards: *filename.wav and then return it to the browser.
Is there a function to do that? or I need to get all the files in the directory and then search one by one?
Thanks for all the comments and help.
I have a database online that I would like to be able to load into an NSArray in my app. I can use arrayWithContentsOfURL with a static file, but I really need to go to a url that generates a plist file from the database and loading it into the array. I can use ASP or PHP. I tried setting the response type to "text/xml", but that doesn't help.
Any thoughts?

I'm currently working on my company's in-house CMS and wish to add the ability for an admin to view the site on a specific date. This will allow admins to preview the site with archived or scheduled posts.
I'd like to avoid finding all mentions of date() or time() and offsetting them. Is there a way of making PHP think it's a specific date so that all calls to date() default to the new time?
Thank you
I have used the String Tokenizer in Java. I wish to know if there is similar functionality for PHP. I have a string and I want to extract individual words from it.
eg. If the string is -
Summer is doubtful #haiku #poetry #babel
I want to know if it contains the hashtag #haiku.
Hi all,
I need to download an image from some URL to my server. However, my server's config disallowed me to do it this way:
getimagesize( $file );
Because, it generate error:
Warning: getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in somefile.php on line 10
So, is there another way I can use that doesn't require external library?
Hi,
It's possible to know if a MySQL server is overloaded (with PHP), and if it's overloaded show a static page (something like Twitter's fail whale)? How can I do it?

Yo. I'm trying to make a simple login system in PHP and my problem is this: I don't really understand sessions.
Now, when I log a user in, I run session_register("user"); but I don't really understand what I'm up to. Does that session variable contain any identifiable information, so that I for example can get it out via $_SESSION["user"] or will I have to store the username in a separate variable? Thanks.
I'm using PHP 5.2.11. I've seen that 5.3 version has several backward incompatibility issues and because of that some code might require changes.
Since my website is hosted on shared server, many have suggested that those server won't upgrade to 5.3 in near future (probably due to incompatibility issues for many shared users).
Would it be wise to develop a new project in 5.3 which would be hosted on shared server?
Hello,
I'm still quite new to CodeIgniter and I was wondering, where should I place my PHP functions that has nothing to do with Controllers and Views, for example, a function that access a local file.
Thank you.
Hello people,
I made a theme in WordPress which hit the mod_security rule on HostGator and gave 403 error.
I contacted people there(at HostGator) and they fixed it for me. But I don't want my theme to work like this.
I just wanted to know if there are any guides/blog post/tutorials telling about writing PHP code which is mod_security friendly?
I tried Google, but didn't find anything helpful.
I've been using CodeIgniter for some quite time, and I've been extremely happy with its Active Record stuff. It's great to query the database with it.
Recently I've started a new project and I can't use such a framework anymore.
Is there a simple PHP Active Record library that does its job and gets out of the way (similar to CodeIgniter's version)?

How can I encode strings on UTF-16BE format in PHP? For "Demo Message!!!" the encoded string should be '00440065006D006F0020004D00650073007300610067006'. Also, I need to encode Arabic characters to this format.
I'm trying to build a PHP preg replace string when processing poorly written xml, such that if I am given:
$x='<abc x="y"><def x="g">more test</def x="g"><blah>test data</blah></abc x="y">';
That it checks if there's a space within a closing tag and deletes everything from the space to the end of the tag such that.
becomes
<abc x="y"><def x="g">more test</def><blah>test data</blah></abc>
thanks
I have this text:

hi all, basically, what i want to know is, for the second parameter in the create_function function, is there anyway to pass a string without a semicolon? or will it not work.
example:
taken from php.net
create_function('$a,$b', 'return "CRCs: " . crc32($a) . " , ".crc32(b);'),
notice that there is a semicolon in the string. is there any possible way someone can enter a function without a semicolon that will still run/evaluate?
I have looked over the PHP list of supported timezones, but the whole list is a little long to include in a drop-down menu, for the user to select his or her timezone. Is there a list with the main city/area on that can be used?
My geography is terrible and add that to not knowing all the area and which timezone they fall into it could be a long day to construct the list my self!
Thanks in advance
hello
I'm new to PHP and I recently started learning Zend Framework. What DAL are you using? Do you think that Zend_Db_* can do the magic? I need it mainly for MySql db. Does it have any limitations and can I use it in big project without any problems because I don't want to go the wrong way.
