Can an AD Domain be restored from a RODC with a copy of the GC? Does an offsite DC replicating the AD need to be a full DC to provide a sufficient up to date AD Backups for disaster recovery?
Hello,
how is it possible to move a sql 2005 db to a different sql 2008(!) server without any downtime? The system is 24/7 and has to be moved to a differen server with a different storage.
We tried copy database, but that does not keep the whole db synchronus at the end of the process but only tablewise.
The host machine is running CentOS 5.3 and using LVM to create Logical Volumes (LVs) and to allow live snapshots to be taken of those LVs. My thought was to store all of the image files for the Xen underpriviledged domains (domU) in a single LV and periodically take a snapshot of that LV and copy the disk images out of the snapshot in order to make a live backup of these systems. Is this doable? Is there a better way?
Thanks!
How can I change the value of, let's say, PasswordAuthentication in /etc/ssh/sshd_config in commands?
As well, remove a # in front of the "key" I wish to value. These don't all have to be in one command. I setup quite a few servers, and remembering where everything is gets exhausting, so I want to get a series of commands I can copy paste and it does the work for me for future reference.
Sample values:
PermitRootLogin no
ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
PasswordAuthentication no
UsePAM no
UseDNS no
Is it possible to copy all my delicious bookmarks to google bookmarks, while preserving the delicious tags as google labels? It is easy enough to export as html and import again, but the tags get lost in the process.
I am using Screen with MinTTY at a bash prompt. Sometimes I want to activate scrollback and copy some stuff that was on the output. My first instinct is to scroll with the mouse, but all that happens is old bash commands start showing up (like when I press the up arrow). Is there a way to re-map the mouse wheel to:
Go into scrollback mode, or
If already in scrollback mode, start moving up in the scrollback window
Hello, I really like hd imaging programs, such as norton ghost, but I find that I don't run then as often as I should.
Would it be possible to have, in grub, the following menu items: ?
Boot from hard disk
Copy hard disk to image
Restore image
I purchased PGP Whole Disk Encryption for my Macbook Pro, and it's exactly what I need. After the Symantec acquisition, PGP no longer sells single licenses of the software so I can't purchase a second copy for my iMac.
Since I can no longer buy PGP Whole Disk Encryption, can anyone suggest an alternative? I'm currently using Filevault, but I specifically want whole disk encryption. I'm using a quad-core i7 iMac running Snow Leopard and I'm also hoping to protect my Windows Bootcamp partition.
I installed Debian Squeeze 2.6 (on a recently bought server) with a software RAID1. During installation I installed GRUB loader (1.9 version). System boots OK with GRAB loader
BUT right after authorization it cannot execute GRUB command (I want to copy the GRUB from the SDA to SDB). System warning right after GRUB command invocation looks as:
root@servername:~# grub
-bash: grub: command not found
How it could be?
(GRUB already installed and no any other OS was installed at all)
I'm trying to customize my sendto shortcut following instructions posted on a How-To Geek article. The problem is that any shortcut I drop into the sendto folder doesn't appear as a shortcut when I right-click-sendto.
If I copy the actual application (say, Notepad) into the Sendto folder, it will appear as an option but it will not run. If I create a shortcut by copying the actual application and pasting a shortcut, it doesn't appear.
Anyone run into this problem before?
I'm currently running a legit copy of Windows Vista Home. I've got this student discount to buy Windows 7 Professional "Upgrade" for $64. Thats a good deal, right?
So, I want to buy this and run windows 7, but I want to reformat my computer when I do. Is this still possible? Or do I upgrade from Vista and them I'm stuck forever?
Are there any desktop antivirus products suitable for use in an enterprise environment without a Windows server?
We're currently using McAfee for our Windows desktops but to get updates and alerts with the latest version it looks like you need to be running their EPO server software. I'd like to avoid the cost of hardware and Windows licensing, and if possible to run just client-based antivirus.
Ideally it would support:
Updates from an internal copy of the definitions (e.g. a wget mirror)
Automated configuration of the install
Alerts from the client via email
I've got a copy of WinXP off of MSDNAA, with a key. I've mounted it to my CD-drive, and now I'm trying to make it in to a VM.
The problem is, it seems that the thing is constantly trying to connect to a DHCP server, fails to connect and then decides no operating system was found.
The file I got off MSDNAA was an .img file, so I had to mount it to a virtual CD drive.
VmWare workstation comes with a Windows XP iso, tried that, also failed.
I tried co copy and paste this to the command line but every newline is recognized as a new command start and not as part of the option:
"command -option:text
whatever"
between text and whatever is a newline which needs to be preserved.
Thanx in advance
I have a Windows application which is deadware, and it lacks the option of exporting data into a file. The only way to extract data is to copy each line into the clipboard, and paste it in an editor.
As a work-around, I'm thinking of recording the action once, and loop through it until it reaches the last line in the application.
I know there are quite a few such utilities for Windows, so I'd appreciate it if you could recommend one for this task. Thank you.
I want to type some special character like heart, Ohm sign , in Windows, I could be able to copy these from character map easily, is there any utility alike Windows Character map for Mac ?
My employer recently purchased a Mac Pro server (2011 model) and we've installed OSX Lion Server from the Mac Appstore. I'm definitely no server admin, but I have been tasked with finding out the following:
Can we monitor or log what users do? (ie, open a file, copy a file.... or file-related tasks)
Can we stop files from being copied? Or be alerted when this does occur?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
I need to copy a website, but I want to exclude specific HTML elements by ID or class in all pages (using a bash script).
I need this because I don't want ads or some other annoying features of some websites.

Problem: Relatively new copy of XP migrated to vbox-virus free. To detect biral infection it is desired that internet access is limited. Network access to the host is desired, but access to the internet should be limited to a select few sites.
The added overhead of network access should be small when the guest vbox is running, 0 when it is not.
my server has a disk error, unfortunately RAID-0. So i am planning to boot it off CD (partedmagic) and copy the VMs to a USB disk. File system is VMFS (esxi4)

My client is a small business (three employees) that uses Outlook Express. They'd like to back up their email. I showed them how to export, but they balked at that. Is there a way I can automate exporting email? They already have a batch file they use that zips a copy of their data and I'd like to be able to add something to that to include email. Is this possible?
I'm finding my use of the Web Platform Installer somewhat muted by it's insistence on trying to install SQL Express when I already have a full copy of SQL Server installed.
Why is this happening? Is there any way to get WPI to recognise that I have SQL Server installed?
I'd like to print my PDF copy of "why's poignant guide to ruby" to read It on paper before to sleep. I have several open source book I'd like to print too and some of them are full color.
I know about lulu.com but I never had any experience with It.
Can you give me some advice with real world proofs about on-line-print-and ship-to-your house services?
