  • Are there any Parsing Expression Grammar (PEG) libraries for Javascript or PHP?

    - by Peter J. Wasilko
    I find myself drawn to the Parsing Expression Grammar formalism for describing domain specific languages, but so far the implementation code I've found has been written in languages like Java and Haskell that aren't web server friendly in the shared hosting environment that my organization has to live with. Does anyone know of any PEG libraries or PackRat Parser Generators for Javascript or PHP? Of course code generators in any languages that can produce Javascript or PHP source code would do the trick.

  • How to Broadcast to a shutdown system using java?

    - by pirates-iiita
    We use socket.send(packet) function in java to send a "packet" to a given port. My problem is that i have to send a packet to a shutdown system using UDP protocol. The problem with send() function is that first it verifies whether the host IP is multicast or not. Now my local area network is of broadcast type. So i am having problem is using this function. can anyone please give me a way ?

  • Developing a project which is an implementation of an open standard/protocol

    - by dotnetdev
    Hi, A lot of interesting code/projects are implementations of protocols, eg SNMP. How are projects like these, which depend on implementing a certain format, developed? Is the process something like get the guidelines of the protocol and then implement code which follows it. For example, XML-RPC is about transmitting XML docs between client/server, so the documentation on this protocol must outline the structure of the XML documents and then the way the transportation between client and server works, so the coder will implement this sort of functionality (xml doc construction, networking between the client and server). Projects I am thinking of (not to develop) are C# libraries which can interpret .PSDs, make VHDs, etc. So if I was to develop a C# app to implement .AI files (Illustrator files), what would be the steps I would look at (such as contacting Adobe, etc)? Is this the way such projects are developed?

  • Setting the rank of a user-defined verb in J

    - by Gregory Higley
    Here's a function to calculate the digital sum of a number in J: digitalSum =: +/@:("."0)@": If I use b. to query the rank of this verb, I get _ 1 _, i.e., infinite. (We can ignore the dyadic case since digitalSum is not dyadic.) I would like the monadic rank of this verb to be 0, as reported by b.. The only way I know of to do this is to use a "shim", e.g., ds =: +/@:("."0)@": digitalSum =: ds"0 This works great, but I want to know whether it's the only way to do this, or if there's something else I'm missing.

  • Waiting for data via select not working

    - by BSchlinker
    I'm currently working on a project which involves multiple clients connected to a server and waiting for data. I'm using select and monitoring the connection for incoming data. However, the client just continues to print nothing, acting as if select has discovered incoming data. Perhaps I'm attacking this wrong? For the first piece of data the server does send, it is displayed correctly. However, the server then disconnects and the client continues to spew blank lines. FD_ZERO(&readnet); FD_SET(sockfd, &readnet); while(1){ rv = select(socketdescrip, &readnet, NULL, NULL, &timeout); if (rv == -1) { perror("select"); // error occurred in select() } else if (rv == 0) { printf("Connection timeout! No data after 10 seconds.\n"); } else { // one or both of the descriptors have data if (FD_ISSET(sockfd, &readnet)) { numbytes = recv(sockfd, buf, sizeof buf, 0); printf("Data Received\n"); buf[numbytes] = '\0'; printf("client: received '%s'\n",buf); sleep(10); } } }

  • Composing adaptors in Boost::range

    - by bruno nery
    I started playing with Boost::Range in order to have a pipeline of lazy transforms in C++]1. My problem now is how to split a pipeline in smaller parts. Suppose I have: int main(){ auto map = boost::adaptors::transformed; // shorten the name auto sink = generate(1) | map([](int x){ return 2*x; }) | map([](int x){ return x+1; }) | map([](int x){ return 3*x; }); for(auto i : sink) std::cout << i << "\n"; } And I want to replace the first two maps with a magic_transform, i.e.: int main(){ auto map = boost::adaptors::transformed; // shorten the name auto sink = generate(1) | magic_transform() | map([](int x){ return 3*x; }); for(auto i : sink) std::cout << i << "\n"; } How would one write magic_transform? I looked up Boost::Range's documentation, but I can't get a good grasp of it.

  • programs hangs during socket interaction

    - by herrturtur
    I have two programs, sendfile.py and recvfile.py that are supposed to interact to send a file across the network. They communicate over TCP sockets. The communication is supposed to go something like this: sender =====filename=====> receiver sender <===== 'ok' ======= receiver or sender <===== 'no' ======= receiver if ok: sender ====== file ======> receiver I've got The sender and receiver code is here: Sender: import sys from jmm_sockets import * if len(sys.argv) != 4: print "Usage:", sys.argv[0], "<host> <port> <filename>" sys.exit(1) s = getClientSocket(sys.argv[1], int(sys.argv[2])) try: f = open(sys.argv[3]) except IOError, msg: print "couldn't open file" sys.exit(1) # send filename s.send(sys.argv[3]) # receive 'ok' buffer = None response = str() while 1: buffer = s.recv(1) if buffer == '': break else: response = response + buffer if response == 'ok': print 'receiver acknowledged receipt of filename' # send file s.send(f.read()) elif response == 'no': print "receiver doesn't want the file" # cleanup f.close() s.close() Receiver: from jmm_sockets import * s = getServerSocket(None, 16001) conn, addr = s.accept() buffer = None filename = str() # receive filename while 1: buffer = conn.recv(1) if buffer == '': break else: filename = filename + buffer print "sender wants to send", filename, "is that ok?" user_choice = raw_input("ok/no: ") if user_choice == 'ok': # send ok conn.send('ok') #receive file data = str() while 1: buffer = conn.recv(1) if buffer=='': break else: data = data + buffer print data else: conn.send('no') conn.close() I'm sure I'm missing something here in the sorts of a deadlock, but don't know what it is.

  • Raw socket implementation in windows?

    - by krishnakumar
    I need to create TCP/IP headers manually for my application. For that i used Raw socket. My system os is win xp (SP3). My code compiles fine :) but it throws a run time error: Initialising Winsock...Initialised successfully. Creating Raw TCP Socket...Raw TCP Socket Created successfully. Setting the socket in RAW mode...Successful. Enter hostname : 192.168.1.152 Resolving Hostname...Resolved. Enter Source IP : 192.168.1.151 Sending packet... Error sending Packet : 10022 I have set IP_HDRINCL to 1. What am i doing wrong? I switched off the firewall too but still get the same result.

  • What libraries provide cross-platform 3D and P2P support?

    - by uckelman
    I'm trying to find a constellation of libraries which, taken together, meet the following requirements: Smooth scaling, rotation, panning (in two dimensions). I'll have a large bitmap (or SVG, in some cases), maybe up to 10000x10000 pixels, which serves as map, with some middling number of small bitmaps (or, again, possibly SVG) that can be dragged around over it. I need to be able to zoom, rotate, and pan this scene; however, the view will always be normal to (i.e., looking head-on at) the large bitmap, so I'm not really using the depth dimension. Peer-to-peer. I'd like for multiple users to be able to connect in order to share one of the scenes mentioned above, preferably peer-to-peer, without much configuration by the user. I'm intending to have a server running for cases where users are unable to connect P2P; I'd like to have the failover happen automatically, or possibly have some way of promoting clients who are capable to be servers themselves. Synchronization. Once a user has started dragging one of the small bitmaps (a piece), no other user should be able to drag that piece until the drag stops. I haven't thought of exactly how to do this---there might be a simple solution, or this kind of synchronization might be something that a library provides. Cross(ish)-platform. I need to be able to run on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS. It would be nice to also be able to run on tablets. Having mostly the same code for all platforms is a plus, but not absolutely necessary. (L)GPL compatible. I'm planning to release under the LGPL or GPL, preferably the latter, so I need libraries which have compatible licenses. I'm not set on any particular language, I'd like to use the library or libraries which make the work easiest, though my preference is to work in at most two languages for the project. (The Model could potentially be in one language and the View in another, so they could talk to each other via some protocol I define, if that would get me a better selection of libraries to use.) Can anyone offer suggestions for what to use?

  • Does anyone else think instance variables are problematic in database-backed applications?

    - by Ben Aston
    It occurs to me that state control in languages like C# is not well supported. By this, I mean, it is left upto the programmer to manage the state of in-memory objects. A common use-case is that instance variables in the domain-model are copies of information residing in persistent storage (i.e. the database). Clearly this violates the single point of authority principle, and "synchronisation" has to be managed by the developer. I envisage a system where instead of instance variables, we have simple public access/mutator methods marked with attributes that link them to the database, and where reads and writes are mediated by a framework that decides whether to hit the database. Does such a system exist? Am I completely missing the point, or is there some truth to this idea?

  • Regarding Shell variable

    - by arav
    I need to call another shell script testarg.sh within my main script. This script testarg.sh has arguments ARG1 ,ARG2, ARG3. I need to call up the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG2 -ARG3 ARG1 and ARG3 argument Variables are mandatory ones. If its not passed to the main script then i quit. ARG2 is an optional one. If the ARG2 variable is not set with value or it's not defined then i need not pass it from main script.So i need to call up the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG3 If the value exist for the ARG2 Varibale then i need to call the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG2 -ARG3 Do i need to have a if else statement for checking the ARG2 variable is empty or null. Is there any other way to do it.

  • why copy and paste codes is dangerous

    - by Yigang Wu
    sometimes, my boss will complain us why we need so long time to implement a feature, actually, the feature has been implemented in other AP before, you just need to copy and paste codes from there. The cost should be low. It's really a hard question, because copy and paste codes is not a easy thing from my point. Do you have any good reason to explain your boss who doesn't know technology?

  • How are python pages coded and what can the language be compared to? [closed]

    - by avon_verma
    I have a few questions about python I've seen many pages like these on Google http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=6583 https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/topic.py?topic=13488 ...that have .py extensions. 1: Are pages like these built on pure python code, but printing out html like print "<div etc..." or like the typical asp,jsp,php type of pages with html pages and embedded python code like: <html> <% some python code %> </html> 2: What is python mainly used for making? windows apps or web or .. ? 3: Are ruby and perl also similar to python?

  • What experience is the most valued in a programmer?

    - by Christo
    I've been coding application level software for a while now. I've had some experience with internet (server/client based) applications, but that has been fairly scant. The field doesn't scare although I know that experience can be almost be measured in gold. I see myself as a highly qualified and experienced programmer, but I also see my short comings in these fields. Does this count against me (and others like me?) and would this cut anyone from obtaining the shortlist or are there other factors which bear more weight?
