  • Changing label color based on current label color in iPhone dev

    - by Matt Thomas
I am having trouble figuring out the if statement code for changing the color of a UI label based on the current color of the label. For instance, if the label color is currently red and the correct button is pressed, I want the label color to change to black. If the label color is black I want the label color to change to blue. Many thanks for any tips.

  • iPhone CALayer Stacking Order

    - by Brian
I'm using CALayers to draw to a UITableViewCell. I'm trying to figure out how layers are ordered with the content of the UITableViewCell. For instance: I add labels to the UITableViewCell in my cellForRow:atIndexPath method In the drawRect method of UITableViewCell I draw some content using the current context Also, in drawRect I add a few sublayers So what would be the order of these elements. I know I have zPosition on the CALayers but I'm not sure if they are always on top of any subviews of the UITableViewCell. And I'm not sure where the content that is drawn in drawRect comes in the order. Any help or links to documentation would be great. I have read through the Core Animation Programming Guide and didn't see anywhere where this would be answered.

  • iphone: accessing the preferences localization file from code

    - by phonecoddy
I was just facing the following problem and couldn't find a solution for it. Hopefully someone could help. The app I am working on has some preferences, which are using a localization file. Now I want to use labels in my app, which display the exact names, which are used in the localization file for the preferences. But I couldn't find a way to access the information which is stored in Settings.bundle - en.lproj - localizationfile.strings. to make this clear: If you open your preferences for your app, the display shows the localized string of the title and the value of the setting. I need to access the localized string of the title of each preference from my code. Does any know how to do this?

  • iPhone: Strange Movement of Two UIImageView "Sprites"

    - by David Pollak
    I have two UIImageViews moving like sprites on a superview. Each imageview moves properly by itself but when I put both imageviews on the superview at the same time, their individual movement becomes strangely restricted to two different areas of the screen. They will not touch even programmed to the same coordinates. This is my movement code for the first imageView: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; pos = CGPointMake(14.0, 7.0); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.05 target:self selector:@selector(onTimer) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } - (void) onTimer { pallone.center = CGPointMake(pallone.center.x+pos.x, pallone.center.y+pos.y); if(pallone.center.x > 320 || pallone.center.x < 0) pos.x = -pos.x; if(pallone.center.y > 480 || pallone.center.y < 0) pos.y = -pos.y; } and for the second imageview: - (IBAction)spara{ cos = CGPointMake(8.0, 4.0); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.05 target:self selector:@selector(inTimer) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } - (void)inTimer{ bomba.center = CGPointMake(bomba.center.x+pos.x, bomba.center.y+pos.y); if(bomba.center.x > 50 || bomba.center.x < 0) pos.x = -pos.x; if(bomba.center.y > 480 || bomba.center.y < 0) pos.y = -pos.y; } Why causes this strange behavior? Thanks for your help. I am a newbie.

  • Using XCode and instruments to improve iPhone app performance

    - by MrDatabase
I've been experimenting with Instruments off and on for a while and and I still can't do the following (with any sensible results): determine or estimate the average runtime of a function that's called many times. For example if I'm driving my gameLoop at 60 Hz with a CADisplayLink I'd like to see how long the loop takes to run on average... 10 ms? 30 ms etc. I've come close with the "CPU activity" instrument but the results are inconsistent or don't make sense. The time profiler seems promising but all I can get is "% of runtime"... and I'd like an actual runtime.

  • iPhone addition to already localized nibs

    - by user168610
I've submitted an app to the store that has been localised into a number of languages. Now it's time to update a few things, so I've added a few new components to a xib or two and modify them as IBOutlets from my code. All works great in English, but when I change to a different language it appears that my nib additions haven't been propagated through the localised nibs that already existed. (I get an unrecognised selector on a UILabel I've added). What is the correct workflow for adding new items to an already localised nib? Should a modification to the top level .xib carry through to all localised versions? Or should I unlocalize, add new components and then localise all over again? Many thanks, Bryn

  • Count files in directories AND subdirectories? iPhone

    - by AWright4911
I am trying to count entire files in a directory, including subdirectories. This is what I have to count files in the first folder: -(NSString *)numberOfPhotos { NSString *MyPath = @"/rootdirectory/"; NSArray *directoryContent = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] directoryContentsAtPath:MyPath]; return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [directoryContent count]]; } I was thinking maybe something like for (file in folder){ [file count] { but doesnt seem to work.

  • My object becomes NSCFArray when running on iPhone

    - by cagreen
I'm really scratching my head on this one: I have an object (MyObject) which I instantiate, and this object has an NSArray member variable. The following simple code working in the sim: MyObject *myObj = [[MyObject alloc] init]; NSArray *arr = [myObj myMemberArray]; When I hover over myObj in XCode the tooltip reads "MyObject". Good! But when I debug it on the device (OS 3.1.3) I get: "[NSCFArray myMemberArray]: unrecognized selector sent to instance ... " When I hover over myObj, sure enough it reads "NSCFArray". Can anyone give me some pointers on where to go next with this? Thanks.

  • iPhone, confusing memory leak.

    - by fuzzygoat
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong with the bottom section of code. I was sure it was fine but "Leaks" says it is leaking which quickly changing it o the top version stops, just not sure as to why the bottom variation fails? // Leaks says this is OK if([elementName isEqualToString:@"rotData-requested"]) { int myInt = [[self elementValue] intValue]; NSNumber *valueAsNumber = [NSNumber numberWithInt:myInt]; [self setRotData:valueAsNumber]; return; } . // Leaks says this LEAKS if([elementName isEqualToString:@"rotData-requested"]) { NSNumber *valueAsNumber = [NSNumber numberWithInt:[[self elementValue] intValue]]; [self setRotData:valueAsNumber]; return; } any help would be appreciated. gary

  • How simplify iPhone localization?

    - by mamcx
I need to localiza a in development app for English & Spanish. Despite the fact I follow the Apple way of use NSLocalizedString & create nibs for both, I already lost the track of the new string that need to get localized and found with surprise that I need to redo the nibs in spanish when I change the master. (Just like this http://www.gigliwood.com/weblog/Cocoa/A_Great_Need_for_Be.html) I wonder if exist a better/alternative/more automated way. I know the use of gettext & poedit and wonder if something like that can be used. Or if exist some script or tool for this.

  • Suppressing the language select button iPhone

    - by AWinter
I'm working on an application now that contains an account register section. One field with secureTextEntry = NO (for registering only). The idea is this make registration faster and hopefully increases the number of signups. It's simple enough for me to just place a regular UITextField but if the user has any additional language keyboards then it's possible for the user to enter non-password friendly characters. Unlike in when secureTextEntry = YES. I know I can do textField.keyboardType = UIKeyboardTypeASCIICapable to get the text field to display the ASCII keyboard first, but the user will still have the keyboard switch button which will allow them to get to undesirable characters. Is there a simple method for suppressing the international button or forcing ASCII only keyboard with no international button? [EDIT] Another perhaps better option might be to suppress multi byte keyboards or even to display the text in the case that secureTextEntry = YES any ideas here? [EDIT AGAIN] I've decided it's a really bad idea to suppress the international button as non-multibyte characters should all be allowed.

  • iPhone iOS4: API for AVRCP (ff/rewind commands on Bluetooth headsets)

    - by Michael Kessler
Hi, I know that AVRCP abilities were added to iOS 4.1 (in iPod application now you can forward and rewind songs by using hardware buttons on supporting headsets). I am trying to find any API for using these abilities in a music application that I work on. The requirement is to catch play/stop, forward and rewind buttons events from the headset. Any information will be more than welcome. Thank you.

  • Small gaps in section headers with custom headers - iPhone / Objective-C

    - by zhar
Hi there! Since I wanted to use the standard section header with a different font size, I just made custom section headers by using an UIImageView with the standard section header as an image. It looks fine at first, but when I scroll the table, there are small gaps below and above the section headers: Since I am not allowed to post images or more than one hyperlink yet, I will have to provide you with one link to those images: Click me! Picture: How it looks like without touching anything Picture: Dragging the table down Picture: Dragging/Scrolling the table up So as you can hopefully see, there is a small empty gap under (2nd pic) and above (3rd pic) the section header. Another thing to mention is, that the standard behaviour of non-custom section headers is, that they don't become transparent when I drag the table down (making the table offset < 0.0). Is there a way to make custom section headers mimic the same behaviour without those annoying gaps? Greetings, Zhar

  • IPhone Objectvie C

    - by Sea
I am trying to determine if a UILabel was touched and if so do something. Give .. . . . UILabel * site = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 185, 320, 30)]; site.text = [retriever.plistDict valueForKey:@"url"]; site.textAlignment =UITextAlignmentCenter; site.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; site.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; site.userInteractionEnabled = YES; [theBgView addSubview:site]; [site release]; . . . Then I write the callback. - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event{ retriever = [PListRetriever sharedInstance]; CGPoint pt = [[touches anyObject] locationInView: self]; NSURL *target = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:[retriever.plistDict valueForKey:@"url"]]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:target]; } The problem is right now, no matter where I touch in the View the Url is being opened. How do I determine if only just my label was touched?

  • iPhone / NSArray : How do I format a text file to be read in using arrayWithContentsOfFile

    - by nickthedude
I have several large word lists and I had been loading them in place in the code as follows: NSArray *dict3 = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"abled",@"about",@"above",@"absurd",@"absurdity", ... but now it is actually causing an exc_bad_access error weirdly, i know it seems implausible but for some reason IT IS causing it. (trust me on this I just spend the better part of a day debugging this crap) Anyway, I'm looking to get these humongous lines of code out of my files but I'm not sure what the best approach is. I guess I could do a plist but I need to figure out how to automate the process. it be easiest if I could just use the text files I've been compiling so if anyone knows how I can format the text file so that the myArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile: @"myTextFile.txt"]; will be read in correctly as one word per element in the array it would really be appreciated. Thanks, Nick

  • how can I know current viewcontroller name in iphone

    - by Shikhar
I have BaseView which implement UIViewController. Every view in project must implement this BaseView. In BaseView, I have method: -(void) checkLoginStatus { defaults = [[NSUserDefaults alloc] init]; if(![[defaults objectForKey:@"USERID"] length] > 0 ) { Login *login=[[Login alloc] initWithNibName:@"Login" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:login animated:TRUE]; [login release]; } [defaults release]; } The problem is my Login view also implement BaseView, checks for login, and again open LoginView i.e. stuck in to recursive calling. Can I check in checkLoginStatus method if request is from LoginView then take no action else check login. Ex: (void) checkLoginStatus { if(SubView is NOT Login){ defaults = [[NSUserDefaults alloc] init]; if(![[defaults objectForKey:@"USERID"] length] 0 ) { Login *login=[[Login alloc] initWithNibName:@"Login" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:login animated:TRUE]; [login release]; } [defaults release]; } } Please help..

  • iPhone Map: Identifying Users Location

    - by senfo
    I have a number of annotations on my map, in addition to the users current location. This works fine, except the default color for the users current location is the same as all of the other annotations. I'd like to make the pin green for the users current location so that it's uniquely identifiable from the other pins. How do I do this? Bellow is the method I've been using (I can't find a way to determine which annotation is the users current location): - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapViewLocal viewForAnnotation:(id <MKAnnotation>)annotation { static NSString *identifier = @"Pin"; MKPinAnnotationView *pinView = (MKPinAnnotationView*)[mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier:identifier]; if (pinView == nil) { pinView = [[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:identifier] autorelease]; pinView.rightCalloutAccessoryView = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; pinView.animatesDrop = YES; pinView.canShowCallout = YES; } else { pinView.annotation = annotation; } return pinView; }
