  • Convert HTML DOM into a multidimensional array

    Where keys are represented by element type and values are represented by #foo and .bar (spaced and ready for explode()). Is it possible, or does something exist for it? I know that this question might incite some wrath, and I'm hoping nobody links to that post about parsing HTML, but I'm hoping it's not impossible. Thanks for the help. Addendum: Ideally, PHP would be used, since it's the only scripting language I know.

  • Why aren't min-width and max-width working as I expect?

    I'm trying to adjust a CSS page layout using min-width and max-width. To simplify the problem, I made this test page. I'm trying it out in the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome with the same results. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Testing min-width and max-width</title> <style type="text/css"> div{float: left; max-width: 400px; min-width: 200px;} div.a{background: orange;} div.b{background: gray;} </style> </head> <body> <div class="a"> (Giant block of filler text here) </div> <div class="b"> (Giant block of filler text here) </div> </body> </html> Here's what I expect to happen: With the browser maximized, the divs sit side by side, each 400px wide: their maximum width Shrink the browser window, and they both shrink to 200px: their minimum width Further shrinking the browser has no effect on them Here's what actually happens, starting at step 2: Shrink the browser window, and as soon as they can't sit side-by-side at their max width, the second div drops below the first Further shrinking the browser makes them get narrower and narrower, as small as I can make the window So here's are my questions: What does max-width mean if the element will sooner hop down in the layout than go lower than its maximum width? What does min-width mean if the element will happily get narrower than that if the browser window keeps shrinking? Is there any way to achieve what I want: have these elements sit side-by-side, happily shrinking until they reach 200px each, and only then adjust the layout so that the second one drops down? And of course... What am I doing wrong?

    Hi I've cross browser fixed a site on all thinkable PC browsers, including Safari. Now my smart ass designer sent me a screen shot of the whole layout collapsing on mac. I have an idea how to solve it (reduce the margin on an element by a few pix), but i don't know how to target Safari only, preferably Safari mac only. What's the best way to do this?

  • JCarousel wrap set to 'circular' bug

    I'm trying to set up a JCarousel instance witht the wrap set to circular, however, I noticed an issue where I "inspect element" in Chrome, duplicate elements are added to the html when the slides repeat (it can be viewed on the official example page). http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/static_circular.html I know this is an open bug on GitHub. I'm just wondering if anyone has found a temporary workaround. Thanks in advance, - Scott

    Hello there :) I am writing an application, and in it, I would like to have some h1 elements with variable font size. I use the full width (1000px) of a div as a limiter, and a script that automatically sets the font of the h1-element so that it fits the width of the div without line break.     Hey Folks, I am currently playing around with CSS3 and trying to achieve a text effect like this (the black blurry inner shadow): But I cannot find a way to create text shadows inside the text. I wonder whether it is still possible because the box-shadow element is able to render shadow inside like this: box-shadow: inset 0px -5px 10px 0px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5); Any ideas?

  • Spawning worker threads

    In C#, How would one go about spawning multiple threads and then sequentially adding results to a list before returning the entire result set? What are some best practices? I'm so far using an ManualResetEvent to signal when the last element has been processed by a thread. But when it returns, I need to have them consolidate the result sets in sequential order so that we don't get into contention issues with the return value list (total results).

    I am working on an in-place HTML editor, concentrating on Firefox only right now. I have an element inserted where the cursor should be and also have left and right arrows working, but I can't seem to find a way to find: Start and end of a line for the home and end keys The next line up or down for the up/down arrows. I see document.elementFromPoint, but this doesn't get me a Range object. The Range object itself seems rather useless when it comes to using pixel positions.

    Does anyone know a good way to test if one element, stored in a var, is the child of another, also stored in a var? I don't need element1.isChildOf('selector'), that's easy. I need element1.isChildOf(element2) element2.find(element1).size() > 0 Does not seem to work. I don't want to have to write a plugin the uses .each to test each child if I can avoid it.

    Hi all, I have this question concerning REST I think: I have read a few rest tutorials and the feeling I get from them is that each action in a restful controller tends to be lean and almost single purpose: "Index gives off a collection of a model show gives off one model edit/new a prep place for changing/create a model update/create changes and makes new model deletes removes one model" After reading all these tutorials, rest seems to be to be a means to create an interface for a model, much like active resource type of thing. the mantra seems to be "controller provides data and data only and is also pretty convention over configuration, so expect projects_path to return a bunch of projects" I can understand that, and I like the cleanliness. But here's when I run into some trouble in reality in applying these guidelines: say three models, Project with attrib title, User with attrib name, and Location with attrib address. Say in views/users/index.html.erb, I want to use Ajax to fetch and display a project in a div#project_display when the user clicks on a project element, I know that I can use views/projects/show.js.rjs like this: page.replace_html 'project_display' "#{@project.name}" where in the projects_controller.rb def show @project = Project.find(params[:id]) repsond_to do |format| format.js and other formats... end end I have no problem in doing that for a couple of years now. BUT doesn't that mean that my JS response for the project#show action is LOCkED to present data to div#project_display element and show only whatever I that rjs template says it should show? That's very limiting and doesn't sound very "interface" like. I have never used JSON before or much XML, so I thought, maybe the JS response should send back raw stuff, like JSON and somehow the page on which the ajax request was called has the instruction on what do to with these raw data. That sounds a lot more flexible, doesn't it? Because look back at that exmpale, what if in the views/locations/index.html.erb, I want to do the exact same thing except I want to put the response in div#project_goes_here and the response should be #{project.name} I know this is a trivial change but that's the point: the RJS only allows one template at a time. So I think the JSON route is the way to go, but how does the already loaded page, the one that the ajax call came from, know when or how to "look forward" to incoming data? I read that PrototypeJS has this template thing, I wouldn't mind using it with JSON, but if you can demonstrate this or other means for displaying received-from-ajax data, I am all attention.   • jqtransform and collapsed DIV

    Hello, I am using a jQuery plugin called: jqtransform This plugin uses JavaScript to apply CSS styles to form elements. The problem that I have consists in the following scenario: I’m building a search page, with a advanced search option. When the page loads, the div called “advancedSearch” is hidden, and it will only show if the user clicks a element. Inside the div#advancedSearch I have several form elements. However, if I hide the div#advancedSearch with the CSS style: “diplay:none;”, the jqtransform plugin doesn’t work correctly with the elements that are hidden. So my solution was to hide the div#advancedsearch with JavaScript. This actually works, and it does not matter if it’s done after the document is ready or not. But… with the JavaScript solution, the div#advancedSearch stays visible for a couple of milliseconds… which is visually annoying. So I was wondering if the solution to this problem would be in the CSS, or in correcting the jqtransform plugin, or even in finding a way to immediately hide the div#advancedSearch with JS making it immediately hidden. UPDATE 1 After jeerose comment I decided to place here my function (please note that the <%= % are ASP.Net tags, that I use to get the images path) $('.toggleAdvancedSearch').click(function() { $('#advancedSearchWrap').slideToggle(250); $('form.jqtransform').jqTransform({ imgPath: '<%= ResolveClientUrl("~/masterpages/img/jqtransform/") %>' }); return false; }); UPDATE 2 To test the problem, I did the following: Added another element to the page, with the ID “applyStyle”, and onClick I call the $('form').jqTransform(); Disabled the the $('form').jqTransform(); from the load of the page. If I press the a#applyStyle, before expanding the div#advancedSearch I get the same problem that I had. But if I expand the the div#advancedSearch and press the the a#applyStyle after, the problem is solved. However, if I run the page with the $('form').jqTransform(); function on the load, I cannot reapply it after with the pressing of the a#applyStyle. I think that the solution could be: disabling the all the elements that are inside the div#advancedSearch, and on the same function that expands the div, make It also apply the styles to the elements that are inside the div#advancedSearch. However, I don’t know how to do this (nether if this will work). PS: This seems to be a known issue with the plugin, but I cannot wait indefinitely for a solution.
