• Pair-wise iteration in C# or sliding window enumerator

  If I have an IEnumerable like: string[] items = new string[] { "a", "b", "c", "d" }; I would like to loop thru all the pairs of consecutive items (sliding window of size 2). Which would be ("a","b"), ("b", "c"), ("c", "d") My solution was is this public static IEnumerable<Pair<T, T>> Pairs(IEnumerable<T> enumerable) { IEnumerator<T> e = enumerable.GetEnumerator(); e.MoveNext(); T current = e.Current; while ( e.MoveNext() ) { T next = e.Current; yield return new Pair<T, T>(current, next); current = next; } } // used like this : foreach (Pair<String,String> pair in IterTools<String>.Pairs(items)) { System.Out.PrintLine("{0}, {1}", pair.First, pair.Second) } When I wrote this code, I wondered if there are already functions in the .NET framework that do the same thing and do it not just for pairs but for any size tuples. IMHO there should be a nice way to do this kind of sliding window operations. I use C# 2.0 and I can imagine that with C# 3.0 (w/ LINQ) there are more (and nicer) ways to do this, but I'm primarily interested in C# 2.0 solutions. Though, I will also appreciate C# 3.0 solutions.

  Has anyone had any experience with using jTemplates to display autocomplete results. The only success I've had is by using the private method ._renderItem and formatting the data that way but we want to render the output using the jTemplate. Any advice appreciated.

Now I loop through all the header nodes and I want to get the table rows which are adjacent to the respective header rows. foreach (HtmlNode node in headerNodes) { HtmlNodeCollection itemNodes = ??? } My question is that what I should write here so that for header row with text "Random Value 1" I get the item rows 1,2 and 3. • Locking behaviour is different via network shares

  I have been trying to lock a file so that other cloned services cannot access the file. I then read the file, and then move the file when finished. The Move is allowed by using FileShare.Delete. However in later testing, we found that this approach does not work if we are looking at a network share. I appreciate my approach may not have been the best, but my specific question is: Why does the below demo work against the local file, but not against the network file? One idea would be to wait with the assertion until I get some event notification that my app has been stopped.

• Way to automate setting of MergeOptions

  I am looking for an automated way to iterate over all ObjectQueries and set the merge option to no tracking (read only context). Once i find out how to do it i will be able to generate a default read only context using a T4 template. Is this possible? For example lets say i have these tables in my object context SampleContext TableA TableB TableC I would have to go through and do the below. SampleContext sc = new SampleContext(); sc.TableA.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; sc.TableB.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; sc.TableC.MergeOption = MergeOption.NoTracking; I am trying to find a way to generalize this using object context. Since some sites do redirects to new locations, $info (array) in “request_callback” function always has an url ($info[‘url’]) where the requested url was redirect.to, and it’s quite expected. • Accessing an excel file throws OleDbException but keeps handle on file

  Really odd that I'd get an oledbexception but turns out that the file's handle is still with the original file. I've been searching through google and keep finding the same problem but no solutions. Connection String: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" + "Data Source=" + filePath + ";" + "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;"; Note that it works on every other file except a particular excel file. Exception: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No error information available: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF). • How to emulate "-lib foo.jar" from _within_ build.xml

  By specifying "-lib foo.jar" to ant I get the behaviour that the classes in foo.jar is added to the ant classloader and are available for various tasks taking a class name argument. I'd like to be able to specify the same behaviour but only from inside build.xml (so we can do this on a vanilla ant). For taskdefs we have functioning code looking like: <taskdef resource="net/sf/antcontrib/antlib.xml" description="for/foreach tasks"> <classpath> <pathelement location="${active.workspace}/ant-contrib-1.X/lib/ant-contrib.jar" /> </classpath> </taskdef> where the definition is completely provided from the ant-contrib.jar listed. What is the equivalent mechanism for the "global" ant classpath? (I have thought out that this is the way to get <javac> use ecj-3.5.jar to compile with on a JRE - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2364006/specifying-the-eclipse-compiler-completely-from-within-build-xml - in a way compatible with ant 1.7. Better suggestions are welcome :) EDIT: It appears that the about-to-be-released version 1.0 of ant4eclipse includes ecj. This does not answer the question, but may solve my basic problem.

The pattern I am using is the following : "^[ \t]*(\\w+)[ \t]*->[ \t]*(\\w+)((?:,[ \t]*\\w+)*)$" This pattern is a C# pattern, the "\t" refers to a tabulation (its a single escaped litteral, intepreted by the .NET String API), the "\w" refers to the well know regex litteral predefined class, double escaped to be interpreted as a "\w" by the .NET STring API, and then as a "WORD CLASS" by the .NET Regex API. It was never getting to a specific point after the upload, so I put in an echo to test for the value of the error code, and it's returning a value that I'm not sure I understand. Here's what's confusing: after I submit my form, I go and look in my uploads directory, and the files I've selected through the form are there - they uploaded correctly. However, the code is jumping into the else clause and $error is returning 4, which the php manual indicates means that no file was uploaded. Any ideas? The files very clearly are getting where they're supposed to. Is there some other definition of "uploaded" that isn't happening?

• IO operation taking long time for files in remote server

  I have files of size 150 MB each in a remote server in a different domain in the network. I am accessing them thorugh UNC path. I want to read the file content and perform a basic string search. When I try reading the files line by line, the operation just don't finish and takes long time, more than 30 minutes. However when I copy those files to my local machine, the same code reads and performs the string search in less than 5 seconds. I don't have .NET framework installed in the server so I have to do this from my machine. I want to perform all this through C# code in .NET framework 3.5 so I don't want to explictly ftp all the files to my machine before performing this operation.   Scenario I have a background worker in my application that runs off and does a bunch of processing. I specifically used this implementation so as to keep my User Interface fluid and prevent it from freezing up. I want to keep the background worker, but inside that thread, spawn off ONLY 3 MORE threads - making them share the processing (currently the worker thread just loops through and processes each asset one-by-one. However I would like to speed this up but using only a limited number of threads. Question Given the code below, how can I get the loop to choose a thread that is free, and then essentially wait if there isn't one free before it continues.
