• mysql completely removing

  I broke my mysql and now I want to completely reinstall it. • How can I Connect My Nokia C6-01 to any music player?

  I have a problem with Ubuntu 11.10. I can connect my Nokia C6-01 as a Massive Storage and Ubuntu will recognize it like a flash drive. But when I try to use Songbird, Rhythmbox, GMusic Browser and Amarok they arent even detecting it. I checked the add ons in everyone of them and they all have the mtp one. I want to be able to synchronize without problems my phone´s music but it´s so annoying to drag and drop my music and podcasts.

Hipo - Doesn't even recognize the iPod Amarok - What is this, I don't even... So to summarize: After some fiddling I can get most of these apps to recognize the iPod and copy files to it, but they are not accessible on the iPod which sort of defeats the whole purpose. Help me out here. My continued harmonic love life depends on it. (Yes, it's the girlfriends iPod and laptop)

• Music player that remembers last song and playlist

  I am looking for something similar to winamp. I have seen other threads but I have tried some solutions and they did not work. I tried Banshee that comes with Ubuntu 11.10 but it does not open last song. I tried Rhythmbox with the remember last song plugin however it does not remember the playlist I got the song from so it would start shuffling all my music. I tried Amarok and it does the same thing as Banshee except cannot even play my playlist and starts playing all my music. I tried audacious but importing my playlist .m3u doesnt allow me to select the individual playlists and play them. I just moved from Windows using winamp and would like a music player that can open playlists .m3u and when I open the application later that it opens the last song and playlist and I can press the play hotkey and music will start playing on startup similar to winamp. I do not care about any additional functionality or user interface.

• Problem in Kubuntu: Default browser never opens

  I'm using Kubuntu, and I switched the default browser to my favourite one. The thing is, when I did this, both my Twitter clients stopped working. Now each and every Twitter client I download and install fails to open any web browser to finish my account authorization. It's impossible they're all broken, so I reset my default browser to rekonq and it works well as a default browser, but still can't login to twitter from any client. In fact, every button in every program that should open a browser window (like Amarok with the "like on last.fm" button) does nothing. So I think there may be a problem with my system but I can't figure out what is it. My user is not in the admin group (it's a shared user), I have an admin user but I only use it to install programs. Could that be the cause? Also, hitting alt+F2 and writing man:file (enter) opens a rekonq window normally.

• Rhythmbox iPod Issues?

  basically, when I try and drag a song from my library to any one of my iPods (Classic (2.0.4 Mac), Touch (3.1.2. (7D11)) and Shuffle), nothing happens. It would appear that everything went ok, but... when I go to the iPod's library, the song is not there. When trying to transfer the file, there is no error etc. to suggest something that went wrong, and so I can't file a bug report on Launchpad etc. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Cheers guys! EDIT: I forgot to add that I'm running a 64-bit install of Ubuntu 12.04LTS and that Amarok and gtkpod don't even recognise that any devices are plugged in. Thanks.

• How to display lyrics that are stored in MP3-Tag?

  How can I achieve that goal? I tried many players - banshee, rhythmbox, amarok, exaile... none of them displays lyrics that are already stored in the mp3. They always try to fetch lyrics from the internet. Interestingly, banshee supports STORING lyrics into the mp3 but not READING - I find that annoying... One player though does it properly - gmusicbrowser. But this piece of software has a so confusing user interface - I don't wanna use it. Any ideas?

On linux, there is not hotkey thing in songbird, and I would like to set those same hotkeys. I've played around with the Amarok Hotkeys, which are now setup that way, and looked in all the KDE shortcuts, but cannot find a way to add a new program and new hot keys. I know its possible, I did it before once, but the KDE shortcut programs have changed and I no longer see the stuff i used to do it before. I'd like to do the same to banshee at some point, but Songbird is the important program. Any Ideas? Any way to set those keys to generic media buttons?

• Music tagging software more consistent than Tag&Rename?

  A few years ago I spent an insane amount of time using the excellent Tag&Rename program. However, I find that for random, inexplicable reasons, some music tools simply disregard my tags, drop or destroy the album art, or have strange handling around some characters. For example, "AC/DC" is poorly handled by most music players when I use Tag&Rename to write the tags. And if I write the tag in iTunes, Winamp seems to not like it, vice versa, and neither of those work with Amarok. Is there a piece of software that works like Tag&Rename but is more compatible, or is there a way to ensure Tag&Rename writes more compatible tags?

• Any beat detection software for Linux?

  Amarok 2 can search through music collection using ID3v2 tag's 'bpm' field. That would be very nice to retag the entire music collection so I can find the 'mood' of the track I like. However I've not found any beat-detection software that could have helped me. Have you ever used one? CLI, preferably. Also I'm interested if there's anything alike for tagging FLACs with the same 'bpm' field. Thanks! :) P.S. I'm aware there's a nice moodbar feature, however it's useless for searching.

• E: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. Ubuntu 9.10

Anyway, I fixed it somehow, from terminal, with some packages, after a couple of reboots, now I have problem with the adobe-flashplugin. I also tried the update manager, but I get something about partial upgrade but that thing also isnt working, and I get a message that I have to install it manually or I remove it completely. • Kubuntu 11.04 bad experience, Gimp crashes and other bugs

  I installed Kubuntu 11.04 64bit today. First let me expose some issues, this is not a rant, just some observations on Kubuntu 11.04 :) Flash doesn't work. The package "flashplugin-installer" was installed by rekonq. But still no flash. Additional Drivers (jockey-kde) doesn't show up automatically after first login. I tried to delete a large file (19,2 GB), an error appeared: "Please empty the trash first, no more space available" or something like that, but you know what? My trash was empty! (Then I found in Dolphin the settings to increment the max size of the trash). Amarok has no play/pause/forward/back buttons, only after changing settings to show those buttons on the top bar. GTK applications like ubuntu software center, inkscape... are in english, but my default language is "german". Only gimp allows to install the "de" language pack. The numblock turns off after each restart. In the KDE Control Center, the "remember last state" of numblock is set. But this is not working. I had some crashes: Nepomuk, Policy-kit, plasma-workspace and gimp. But now to the important stuff. I really need Gimp to work. After starting it, I get a crash: giowck@giowck-desktop:~$ gimp (gimp:1899): GLib-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./glib/goption.c:2132: ignoring no-arg, optional-arg or filename flags (8) on option of type 0 Speicherzugriffsfehler (in English: "Memory error") What can I do to run Gimp? • What music player for Ubuntu is *most* like Cog?

  Cog is, far and away, my favourite music player. File browser on the left panel, pull a folder into the right panel, it plays the files you pull into the main box. Simple! Easy! Nice! Especially since I store all my music on my non-primary drive. Cog doesn't care where I keep my music! It just deals with whatever folder I tell it to monitor. I also have about 200 gigs of music. It's a problem, I know. I can't find a player this simple and elegant in Ubuntu. Amarok: doesn't handle non-primary drives very well. Banshee: kinda good, but fussy browsing/playlist systems. Audacious: no file browser; it also crashes whenever I try to "import" all my music. All I want -- seriously -- is something where I can look at my MP3 folder, drag a folder onto a playlist, and have that playlist play the songs.

• Download lastfm tags into mp3 comment or genre tag

  for a long time I dream to have a songs lastfm tags in my music library, so I can use them to quickly generate playlists. There used to be a way to do that in amarok 1.4, but it never was stable. Than there is MusicBrainz Picard's lastfm/lastfmplus plugin. It is partially fine, but I cannot manage to make it look ONLY for the lastfm tags and put them into comments/genre/whatever but it always hast to tag everything. And it isn't particularly good with it, especially with small bands, songs without album etc. My music library is rather well organised. Most of the tags are correct. I also have quite some songs without an album. And I don't want it to find the albums for those songs, since it'd mess up my album view. So it must not touch the fields track name, track number, artist and album. All I want is that the most popular lastfm tags get into the genre or comments tag of the mp3, separated by semicolons, commas or whatever. I think I remember a script that did this job, but I cannot find. Does anybody know if there is anything like this? Would it be to hard to write this, for example as Banshee plugin? Thank you

• Music player with a few specific requirements

  I am looking for a music player with a few specific requirements: Must have a search function that whittles down results as you type, searching the entire library. Must start playing a song when double clicked, and not continue to another song when that song finishes. Must be approachable and immediately usable by people completely unfamiliar with the program. I think this is mostly covered by the first two requirements being met. I've tried many players but unfortunately every one has failed to meet at least one of the requirements. Rhythmbox meets 1 and 3, but continues to the next search result after the song which was double clicked ends. Banshee is basically the same as Rhythmbox. While it has an option to "Stop when finished" this cannot (as far as I can tell) be made the default when double clicking a song. Audacious (as far as I can tell) fails at 1. Muine meets requirements 1 and 2, but unfortunately I couldn't make the search dialog always shown like it is with Rhythmbox / Banshee which, despite its very simple interface, made Muine incomprehensible to people trying to use it for the first time. Amarok I could not configure to meet requirement 1, but I think it's likely I was just missing something, and with its configurability I'm confident that I can set it up to meet requirements 2 and 3.

• KDE: How can I select audio output device for mplayer?

  I recently installed Kubuntu 13.10 64-bit, and I'm having a problem with selecting audio output device. In Phonon, when I select audio device preference order and press Apply, Amarok and Dragon will immediately switch to the preferred device. VLC and SMplayer are not affected. VLC has its own setting for selecting the output device, but SMplayer remains a problem. It always plays audio on internal audio, and I can't change output to HDMI. How can I select HDMI for SMplayer's audio output device? I don't know if it matters, but when I select HDMI audio in Phonon and click Test, the test sound plays on the internal audio output as well. In the hardware settings tab, the front left and front right test buttons play audio on HDMI. Also, volume up/down buttons affect HDMI volume when SMplayer is focused. This would make sense if I could get SMplayer to play audio over HDMI, but it would be better if the volume keys affected SMplayer's own volume, or the "mplayer2: audio stream" which appears in volume control while mplayer is playing. EDIT: I've recompiled mplayer with alsa support, and can now select the audio output device from SMplayer's settings. Didn't affect the issue with Phonon of course, but it's a suitable workaround.

• Matching First Alphanumeric Character skipping (The |An? )

  I have a list of artists, albums and tracks that I want to sort using the first letter of their respective name. The issue arrives when I want to ignore "The ", "A ", "An " and other various non-alphanumeric characters (Talking to you "Weird Al" Yankovic and [dialog]). Django has a nice start '^(An?|The) +' but I want to ignore those and a few others of my choice. I am doing this in Django, using a MySQL db with utf8_bin collation. EDIT Well my fault for not mentioning this but the database I am accessing is pretty much ready only. It's created and maintained by Amarok and I can't alter it without a whole mess of issues. That being said the artist table has The Chemical Brothers listed as The Chemical Brothers so I think I am stuck here. It probably will be slow but that's not so much of a concern for me as it's a personal project.

It’ll also allow users to download purchased music to their local machine. Ubuntu One Music Store Users will be able to access Ubuntu One music store from the sidebar of Rhythmbox. The music store is a web page that opens in the Rhythmbox player. There are albums listed on the home page of the Ubuntu One music store page. Ubuntu One music store is powered by 7digital, which is a leading digital B2B media delivery company based in London and operating globally. Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, has partnered with 7digital to bring the music store to it’s users, integrating it with Rhythmbox and it’s cloud storage service UbuntuOne which was launched last year. The home screen of the Ubuntu One music store displays popular albums and functionality to browse and search. You can search for Artists, Tracks, Albums, or a combination of all three. Users will also be able to browse the store alphabetically, or based on different music genres. Once you select a specific artist, all their available albums are arranged in a grid. Once an album is selected, you’ll will be able to download specific songs or the whole album. You’ll also be allowed to preview different songs for 60 seconds. You’ll be able to buy tracks using a credit card or with PayPal. The purchased tracks will be visible under Library \ Purchased from Ubuntu One.   I am struggling with the following issue. I want to convert an MP3 ADTS into pure a MP3. I am using AVConv on Ubuntu 12.10. • Beginner Geek: How to Burn an ISO Image to a Disc

  There may be a time when you have an ISO image that you need to burn to a CD or DVD for use in a computer or other device. Today we show you how to do it using ImgBurn, ISO Recorder, and Windows Disc Image Burner in Windows 7. You might need to burn an ISO of an operating system, software app, CD, DVD…etc. It doesn’t matter what the ISO image is, burning an image is a fairly straight-forward process and here we’ll take a look at three free options to accomplish it. Using ImgBurn ImgBurn is an awesome free utility that will create ISO images, allow out burn almost anything, and a lot more. Although there are a lot advanced features available, burning an ISO to disc is easy. Download and install ImgBurn (link below) taking the defaults in the install wizard. The main thing to watch for and uncheck during installation is when it offers the worthless Ask Toolbar. The easiest way to use ImgBurn is to burn an image to disc is pop in a blank disc to the CD/DVD drive, right-click on the ISO file, and select Burn using ImgBurn. ImgBurn opens up with the source and destination fields already filled in. You can leave the default settings, then click the Write button. You’ll notice that the ImgBurn Log screen opens, this is by default and is meant to show error messages you may receive during the writing process.   A successful burn! That is all there is to it…click Ok and close out of ImgBurn. Use ISO Recorder ISO Recorder (link below) is another great utility for burning ISO images to disc. They have a version for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 (32 & 64-bit Versions). Pop your blank disc into your CD/DVD drive and right-click on the ISO image file and select Copy image to CD from the Context Menu. In the next screen the image file path is in the Source Image file field. Under Recorder select the drive with your blank disc, select a recording speed and click Next. You’ll see a progress screen while the data is written to the disc and finalizing… That’s it! Your disc will pop out and you can click Finish to close out of ISO Recorder. Use Windows 7 If You’re using Windows 7, use the built in Windows Disc Image Burner feature to burn ISO images to disc. Conclusion You don’t need an expensive commercial application to burn an ISO image to disc. Using any one of these free utilities will get the job done quite nicely. • keyboard mappings are totally screwed after updating to kde4

  I recently upgraded from KDE 3.5 to KDE 4, and I have been having weird issues with my keyboard. In one of the virtual consoles e.g. when I press ctrl + alt 1 , I can type perfectly, but in KDE, several of the number keys don't work, the left and right arrows don't work either. When I press the right arrow key in xev I get this: KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x6f, subw 0x0, time 903459, (111,55), root:(115,836), state 0x10, keycode 114 (keysym 0x1008ff11, XF86AudioLowerVolume), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False When I press the '3' key it toggles my Bookmarks toolbar in Firefox, in xev I get this: KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x6f, subw 0x0, time 999968, (94,115), root:(98,896), state 0x10, keycode 12 (keysym 0x1008ff30, XF86Favorites), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x6f, subw 0x0, time 1000032, (94,115), root:(98,896), state 0x10, keycode 12 (keysym 0x1008ff30, XF86Favorites), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False As this is deeper down, changing the type of keyboard in the KDE meun's has no effect. I'm slowly beginning to wade through the mountains of documentation about the X keyboard model, but there has to be a better way. Does anyone no what it is? Edit: 1234567890 ! after deleting the entire .kde folder. but only until I change the Keyboard settings from the "system settings" applet, then its hosed full time. Regardless of what I set the settings too. (restore to default settings doesn't) 2nd Edit: I'm using Gentoo AMD64, I was upgrading from KDE 3.5 KDE 4.2. I think I had manual settings before, although I didn't change anything. I was originally running KDE without HAL until that stop working a year or so ago.
