  • Very slow remote page load performance in QtWebKit (Windows)

    I get very slow load times on QtWebKit on Windows 7, through ADSL. I am using the Qt Demo Browser, on a Core2 Quad, 64 bit Windows 7, 4GB ram, 2gb processor. through a VPN. Simplest example: google search page takes ~18 seconds to load, compared to 2.5 on Chrome (cash cleared). On larger pages, with scripts etc. it is worse. I tried Qt 4.6 and also the Qt 4.7 beta, but don't see any difference. I see the same results with Arora browser. Are there any settings, or patches that can be applied to fix this? Thanks

  • C++ HTML template framework, templatizing library, HTML generator library

    I am looking for template/generator libraries for C++ that are similar to eg. Ruby's Erb, Haml, PHP's Smarty, etc. It would be great if I it would sport some basic features like loops, if/else, int conversion to strings, etc. Parameter passing to template rendering engine is also important if I could pass all of them in a hash map instead of calling some function for each of parameters. Do you have any recommendations? I can see also the possibility of embedding languages like Lua, however I haven't found a templatizing library for that either. Thanks!

  • Qt on Mac: where to find "configure"

    hi, I am very new to Mac. I downloaded QT SDK Mac Open source (http://get.qt.nokia.com/qtsdk/qt-sdk-mac-opensource-2010.02.dmg) and installed the Package. I can run qmake, build samples and run demos, but I cannot run configure (in order to build the Qt libraries statically). It says: -bash: No such file or directory. Documentation says I should run this in the "Qt root folder", but what is this folder in Mac? I looked for it in /usr/bin, /usr/local/Qt4.6, /Developer/Tools/Qt. Anyway, what is "configure" on Mac. is it an executable or a script? Thanks a lot

    hi, I need to write quickly this application: a simple window that wraps a web browser control, that runs html pages. The Browser UI (e.g. Navigation buttons) should be suppressed. As a .net developer, I would embed the WebBrowser OCX in a Windows Form. But this has to run on Mac as well!! I found the following cross-platform candidates.   • Is there a summary of differences in rendering/behavior between QtWebKit and Chrome/Safari WebKit?

    I wrote a simple Qt application (Windows+Mac) that uses QtWebKit to render a web site inside a window. But I already saw differences in layout and behavior between our app and Chrome (that uses WebKit as well), e.g.: - different fonts are displayed for the same web page - an html anchor link with "javascript:someFunction()" is not working Is there somewhere a summary list of all such differences (not the entire QtWebKit bug list)? Also: is there a way to use a WebKit version more similar to Chrome in my application?

  • Python thread pool similar to the multiprocessing Pool?

    Is there a Pool class for worker threads, similar to the multiprocessing module's Pool class? I like for example the easy way to parallelize a map function def long_running_func(p): c_func_no_gil(p) p = multiprocessing.Pool(4) xs = p.map(long_running_func, range(100)) however I would like to do it without the overhead of creating new processes. I know about the GIL. However, in my usecase, the function will be an IO-bound C function for which the python wrapper will release the GIL before the actual function call. Do I have to write my own threading pool?

Say, in my Global.asax, I have the default route for MVC routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); and on a View page, I do <%=Html.RouteLink("Dinners", "Default", new { controller="Dinners", action="Details", id="1"} %> Why it does not generate the link /Dinners/Details/1 but thrown an exception?   • Direct2D fallback to GDI in XP

    I'd like to use Direct2D for my .Net application using the Windows Code pack. Since some of my users are using XP, I need to provide a GDI+ fallback. I wonder how people usually do this kind of fallback. Do they abstract/interface all the necessary graphics feature into some custom generic library?     Can someone explain the difference between apache mod_wsgi in daemon mode and django fastcgi in threaded mode. They both use threads for concurrency I think. Supposing that I'm using nginx as front end to apache mod_wsgi. UPDATE: I'm comparing django built in fastcgi(./manage.py method=threaded maxchildren=15) and mod_wsgi in 'daemon' mode(WSGIDaemonProcess example threads=15). They both use threads and acquire GIL, am I right?

  • PyQt4, QThread and opening big files without freezing the GUI

    Hi, I would like to ask how to read a big file from disk and maintain the PyQt4 UI responsive (not blocked). I had moved the load of the file to a QThread subclass but my GUI thread get freezed. Any suggestions? I think it must be something with the GIL but I don't know how to sort it? EDIT: I am using vtkGDCMImageReader from the GDCM project to read a multiframe DICOM image and display it with vtk and pyqt4.     What are the options for achieving parallelism in Python? I want to perform a bunch of CPU bound calculations over some very large rasters, and would like to parallelise them. Coming from a C background, I am familiar with three approaches to parallelism: Message passing processes, possibly distributed across a cluster, e.g. MPI. Explicit shared memory parallelism, either using pthreads or fork(), pipe(), et. al Implicit shared memory parallelism, using OpenMP. Deciding on an approach to use is an exercise in trade-offs. In Python, what approaches are available and what are their characteristics? Is there a clusterable MPI clone? What are the preferred ways of achieving shared memory parallelism? I have heard reference to problems with the GIL, as well as references to tasklets. In short, what do I need to know about the different parallelization strategies in Python before choosing between them?

    Does C++ have a proper implementation of interface that does not use vtable? for example class BaseInterface{ public: virtual void func() const = 0; } class BaseInterfaceImpl:public BaseInterface{ public: void func(){ std::cout<<"called."<<endl; } } BaseInterface* obj = new BaseInterfaceImpl(); obj->func(); the call to func at the last line goes to vtable to find the func ptr of BaseInterfaceImpl::func, but is there any C++ way to do that directly as the BaseInterfaceImpl is not subclassed from any other class besides the pure interface class BaseInterface?
