• Chaining CSS classes in IE6 - Trying to find a jQuery solution?

  Right, perhaps I ask the impossible? I consider myself fairly new to Javscript and jQuery, but that being said, I have written some fairly complex code recently so I am definitely getting there... however I am now possed with a rather interesting issue at my current freelance contract. The previous web coder has taken a Grid-960 approach to the HTML and as a result has used chained classes to style many of the elements. The example below is typical of what can be found in the code: <div class='blocks four-col-1 orange highlight'>Some content</div> And in the css there will be different declarations for: (not actual css... but close enough) .blocks {margin-right:10px;} .orange {background-image:url(someimage.jpg);} .highlight {font-weight:bold;} .four-col-1 {width:300px;} and to make matters worse... this is in the CSS: .blocks.orange.highlight {background-colour:#dd00ff;} Anyone not familiar with this particular bug can read more on it here: http://www.ryanbrill.com/archives/multiple-classes-in-ie/ it is very real and very annoying. Without wanting to go into the merrits of not chaining classes (I told them this, but it is no longer feasible to change their approach... 100 hand coded pages into a 150 page website, no CMS... sigh) and without the luxury of being able to change the way these blocks are styled... can anyone advise me on the complexity and benefits between any of my below proposed approaches or possible other options that would adequately solve this problem. Potential Solution 1 Using conditional comments I am considering loading a jquery script only for IE6 that: Reads the class of all divs in a certain section of the page and pushes to an array creates empty boxes off screen with only one of the classes applied at a time Reads the applied CSS values for each box Re-applies these styles to the individual box, somehow bearing in mind the order in which they are called and overwriting conflicting instructions as required Potential Solution 2 read the class of all divs in a certain section of the page and push to an array Scan the document for links to style sheets Ajax grab the stylesheets and traverse looking for matching names to those in class array Apply styles as needed Potential Solution 3 Create an IE6 only stylesheet containing the exact style to be applied as a unique name (ie: class='blocks orange highlight' becomes class='blocks-orange-highlight') Traverse the document in IE6 and convert all spaces in class declarations to hyphens and reapply classes based on new style name Summary: Solution 1 allows the people at this company to apply any styles in the future and the script will adjust as needed. However it does not allow for the chained style to be added, only the individual style... it is also processor intensive and time consuming, but also the most likely to be converted into a plugin that could be used the world over Solution 2 is a potential nightmare to code. But again will allow for an endless number of updates without breaking Solution 3 will require someone at the companty to hardcode the new styles every time they make a change, and if they don't, IE6 will break. Ironically the site, whilst needing to conform to IE6 in a limited manner, does not need to run wihtout javascript (they've made the call... have JS or go away), so consider all jQuery and JS solutions to be 'game on'. Did I mention how much i hate IE6? Anyway... any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. I will continue to develop my own solution and if I discover one that can be turned into a jQuery plugin I will post it here in the comments. Regards, Mike.

• Core data migration failing with "Can't find model for source store" but managedObjectModel for source is present

  I have a cocoa application using core-data, which is now at the 4th version of its managed object model. My managed object model contains abstract entities but so far I have managed to get migration working by creating appropriate mapping models and creating my persistent store using addPersistentStoreWithType:configuration:options:error and with the NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption set to YES. NSDictionary *optionsDictionary = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] forKey:NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption]; NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [applicationSupportFolder stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"MyApp.xml"]]; NSError *error=nil; [theCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSXMLStoreType configuration:nil URL:url options:optionsDictionary error:&error] This works fine when I migrate from model version 3 to 4, which is a migration that involves adding attributes to several entities. Now when I try to add a new model version (version 5), the call to addPersistentStoreWithType returns nil and the error remains empty. The migration from 4 to 5 involves adding a single attribute. I am struggling to debug the problem and have checked all the following; The source database is in fact at version 4 and the persistentStoreCoordinator's managed object model is at version 5. The 4-5 mapping model as well as managed object models for versions 4 and 5 are present in the resources folder of my built application. I've tried various model upgrade paths. Strangely I find that upgrading from an early version 3 - 5 works .. but upgrading from 4 - 5 fails. I've tried adding a custom entity migration policy for migration of the entity whose attributes are changing ... in this case I overrode the method beginEntityMapping:manager:error: . Interestingly this method does get called when migration works (ie when I migrate from 3 to 4, or from 3 to 5 ), but it does not get called in the case that fails ( 4 to 5 ). I'm pretty much at a loss as to where to proceed. Any ideas to help debug this problem would be much appreciated.

What's the purpose of the "mov edi,edi"?

• ASP.Net & 960.gs Integrating the .css files into a new project.

  I've got a full layout designed using 960.gs and am wanting to use it in a ASP.net website but i'm getting warnings such as: "Warning File 'css/Reset.css' was not found." "Warning File 'css/Text.css' was not found." "Warning File 'css/960.css' was not found." "Warning File 'css/Base.css' was not found." I've tried adding a new similarly named folder to the solution explorer and 'add existing item' to add them in but it still seems to cause warnings and intelisense isn't recognising any of the 960.gs classes. Is there a recommended workflow for importing all of this in? I should add that it works perfectly well on the local development server and on the webspace, it's seemingly just VS that's complaining.

  I'm testing a Python parser. I have Python 2.6/2.7 firmly under control, and some good (large) code samples on which I've tested it. I'm interested in testing my Python3 variant. I've been to various Python open source web sites (e.g., http://pythonsource.com/), which list lots of packages, but they are pretty unclear as whether these are Python 2.x vs 3.x source files. The several samples that I downloaded all turned out to be Python 2.x. Where can I find a number of large Python 3 software source codes? I don't really want 1000 little separate Python3 files; I prefer big applications.

• .htaccess redirect https to http not working

  I am trying to catch any https traffic to the front of my site so: https://www.domain.com is redirected to: http://www.domain.com However other subdomains need to be redirected elsewhere. For the most part this is all working, apart from the https - http redirection. Here's my .htaccess file at the moment: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on RewriteRule (.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [L,R=301] RewriteCond "%{HTTP_HOST}" !^www.* [NC] RewriteCond "%{HTTP_HOST}" ^([^\.]+).*$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://secure.domain.com/a/login/%1 [L,R=301] It would seem that this bit: RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on RewriteRule (.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} isn't working as I would imagine. In fact it doesn't seem to redirect at all. In another subdirectory I have the opposite in effect which works fine: RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} so my thinking is the opposite should have done the job, but seemingly not. Any thoughts anyone?

• Error Exception 2048 on my website using OpenClassifieds software

  I have a website called e-waitress.net, it is a jobs employment website for the restaurant industry. I installed an open source program called OpenClassifieds and a couple days after installing the OpenClassifieds, I get an error message when I enter my url that is this: ErrorException [ 2048 ]: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are required to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EDT/-4.0/DST' instead ~ APPPATH/ko322/classes/kohana/date.php [ 592 ] I am wondering is this a server issue with my host provider or is it within the OpenClassifieds installation software? I've reinstalled the software twice and it's returned this error after a couple days of working great. Any ideas?

• cygwin sed substitution against commands in history

  I couldn't find an answer for this exact problem, so I'll ask it. I'm working in Cygwin and want to reference previous commands using !n notation, e.g., if command 5 was which ls, then !5 runs the same command. The problem is when trying to do substitution, so running: !5:s/which \([a-z]\)/\1/ should just run ls, or whatever the argument was for which for command number 5. I've tried several ways of doing this kind of substitution and get the same error: bash: :s/which \([a-z]*\)/\1/: substitution failed

Neste tutorial, iremos aprender a criar um componente para o Content Server. O nosso primeiro componente, embora não seja tão simples, será feito apenas com recursos do Content Server. Em um futuro tutorial, iremos aprender a usar classes java como parte de nossos componentes. Neste tutorial, vamos desenvolver um recurso de Favoritos, aonde os usuários poderão marcar determinados documentos como seus Favoritos, e depois consultar estes documentos em uma lista. Não iremos montar o componente com todas as suas funcionalidades, mas com o que vocês verão aqui, será tranquilo aprimorar este componente, inclusive para ambientes de produção. O serviço recebe os parâmetros de entrada, executa a query e retorna o ResultSet (no caso de um SELECT). Os serviços podem ser executados através de templates, páginas IDOC, outras aplicações (através de API), ou diretamente na URL do browser. Neste exercício criaremos serviços para Criar, Editar, Deletar e Listar os favoritos de um usuário. - Template: Os templates são as interfaces gráficas (páginas) que serão apresentadas aos usuários. Por exemplo, antes de executar o serviço que deleta um documento do favoritos, quero que o usuário veja uma tela com o ID do Documento e um botão Confirma, para que ele tenha certeza que está deletando o registro correto. Esta tela pode ser criada como um template. Neste exercício iremos construir templates para os principais serviços, além da página que lista todos os favoritos do usuário e apresenta as ações de editar e deletar. Os templates nada mais são do que páginas HTML com scripts IDOC. • JUDCon 2013 Trip Report

  JUDCon (JBoss Users and Developers Conference) 2013 was held in historic Boston on June 9-11 at the Hynes Convention Center. JUDCon is the largest get together for the JBoss community, has gone global in recent years but has it's roots in Boston. The JBoss folks graciously accepted a Java EE 7 talk from me and actually referenced my talk in their own sessions. I am proud to say this is my third time speaking at JUDCon/the Red Hat Summit over the years (this was the first time on behalf of Oracle). I had great company with many of the rock stars of the JBoss ecosystem speaking such as Lincoln Baxter, Jay Balunas, Gavin King, Mark Proctor, Andrew Lee Rubinger, Emmanuel Bernard and Pete Muir. Notably missing from JUDCon were Bill Burke, Burr Sutter, Aslak Knutsen and Dan Allen. Topics included Java EE, Forge, Arquillian, AeroGear, OpenShift, WildFly, Errai/GWT, NoSQL, Drools, jBPM, OpenJDK, Apache Camel and JBoss Tools/Eclipse. My session titled "JavaEE.Next(): Java EE 7, 8, and Beyond" went very well and it was a full house. This is our main talk covering the changes in JMS 2, the Java API for WebSocket (JSR 356), the Java API for JSON Processing (JSON-P), JAX-RS 2, JPA 2.1, JTA 1.2, JSF 2.2, Java Batch, Bean Validation 1.1, Java EE Concurrency and the rest of the APIs in Java EE 7. I also briefly talked about the possibilities for Java EE 8. The slides for the talk are here: JavaEE.Next(): Java EE 7, 8, and Beyond from reza_rahman Besides presenting my talk, it was great to catch up with the JBoss gang and attend a few interesting sessions. On Sunday night I went to one of my favorite hangouts in Boston - the exalted Middle East Club as Rolling Stone refers to it (other cool spots in an otherwise pretty boring town is "the Church"). As contradictory as it might sound to the uninitiated, the Middle East Club is possibly the best place in Boston to simultaneously get great Middle Eastern (primarily Lebanese) food and great underground metal. For folks with a bit more exposure, this is probably not contradictory at all given bands like Acrassicauda and documentaries like Heavy Metal in Baghdad. Luckily for me they were featuring a few local Thrash metal bands from the greater Boston area. It wasn't too bad considering it was primarily amateur twenty-something guys (although I'm not sure I'm a qualified critic any more since I all but stopped playing about at that age). It's great Boston has the Middle East as an incubator to keep the rock, metal, folk, jazz, blues and indie scene alive. I definitely enjoyed JUDCon/Boston and hope to be part of the conference next year again.

• Programação paralela no .NET Framework 4 – Parte I

  Introdução O avanço de tecnologia nos últimos anos forneceu, a baixo custo, acesso  a workstations com inúmeros CPUs. Facilmente encontramos hoje máquinas clientes com 2, 4 e até 8 núcleos, sem considerar os “super-servidores” com até 36 processadores :) Da wikipedia: A Unidade central de processamento (CPU, de acordo com as iniciais em inglês) ou o processador é a parte de um sistema de computador que executa as instruções de um programa de computador, e é o elemento primordial na execução das funções de um computador. Este termo tem sido usado na indústria de computadores pelo menos desde o início dos anos 1960[1]. A forma, desenho e implementação de CPUs têm mudado dramaticamente desde os primeiros exemplos, mas o seu funcionamento fundamental permanece o mesmo. Fazendo uma analogia, seria muito interessante delegarmos tarefas no mundo real que podem ser executadas independentemente a pessoas diferentes, atingindo desta forma uma  maior performance / produtividade na sua execução. A computação paralela se baseia na idéia que um problema maior pode ser dividido em problemas menores, sendo resolvidos de forma paralela. Este pensamento é utilizado há algum tempo por HPC (High-performance computing), e através das facilidades dos últimos anos, assim como a preocupação com consumo de energia, tornaram esta idéia mais atrativa e de fácil acesso a qualquer ambiente. No .NET Framework A plataforma .NET apresenta um runtime, bibliotecas e ferramentas para fornecer uma base de acesso fácil e rápido à programação paralela, sem trabalhar diretamente com threads e thread pool. Esta série de posts irá apresentar todos os recursos disponíveis, iniciando os estudos pela TPL, ou Task Parallel Library. Task Parallel Library A TPL é um conjunto de tipos localizados no namespace System.Threading e System.Threading.Tasks, a partir da versão 4 do framework. A partir da versão 4 do framework, o TPL é a maneira recomendada para escrever código paralelo e multithreaded. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd460717(v=VS.100).aspx Task Parallelism O termo “task parallelism”, ou em uma tradução live paralelismo de tarefas, se refere a uma ou mais tarefas sendo executadas de forma simultanea. Considere uma tarefa como um método. A maneira mais fácil de executar tarefas de forma paralela é o código abaixo: Parallel.Invoke(() => TrabalhoInicial(), () => TrabalhoSeguinte()); O que acontece de verdade? Por trás nos panos, esta instrução instancia de forma implícita objetos do tipo Task, responsável por representar uma operação assíncrona, não exatamente paralela: public class Task : IAsyncResult, IDisposable É possível instanciar Tasks de forma explícita, sendo uma alternativa mais complexa ao Parallel.Invoke. var task = new Task(() => TrabalhoInicial()); task.Start(); Outra opção de instanciar uma Task e já executar sua tarefa é: var t = Task<int>.Factory.StartNew(() => TrabalhoInicialComValor());var t2 = Task<int>.Factory.StartNew(() => TrabalhoSeguinteComValor()); A diferença básica entre as duas abordagens é que a primeira tem início conhecido, mais utilizado quando não queremos que a instanciação e o agendamento da execução ocorra em uma só operação, como na segunda abordagem. Data Parallelism Ainda parte da TPL, o Data Parallelism se refere a cenários onde a mesma operação deva ser executada paralelamente em elementos de uma coleção ou array, através de instruções paralelas For e ForEach. A idéia básica é pegar cada elemento da coleção (ou array) e trabalhar com diversas threads concomitantemente. A classe-chave para este cenário é a System.Threading.Tasks.Parallel // Sequential version foreach (var item in sourceCollection) { Process(item); } // Parallel equivalent Parallel.ForEach(sourceCollection, item => Process(item)); Complicado né? :) Demonstração Acesse aqui um vídeo com exemplos (screencast). • ASP.NET MVC, Web API, Razor, e Open Source (Código Aberto)

  A Microsoft tornou o código fonte da ASP.NET MVC disponível sob uma licença open source (de código aberto) desde a primeira versão V1. Nós também integramos uma série de grandes tecnologias de código aberto no produto, e agora entregamos jQuery, jQuery UI, jQuery Mobile, jQuery Validation, Modernizr.js, NuGet, Knockout.js e JSON.NET como parte integrante dos lançamentos da ASP.NET MVC. Estou muito animado para anunciar hoje que também iremos liberar o código fonte da ASP.NET Web API e ASP.NET Web Pages (também conhecido como Razor) sob uma licença open source (Apache 2.0), e que iremos aumentar a transparência do desenvolvimento de todos os três projetos hospedando seus repositórios de código no CodePlex (usando o novo suporte ao Git anunciado na semana passada - em Inglês). Hoje vou falar de uma funcionalidade de rede muito interessante que é o Link Aggregation. O Solaris já suporta Link Aggregation desde Solaris 10 Update 1 porem no Solaris 11 Update 1 tivemos incrementos significantes. O Link Aggregation como o próprio nome diz, é a agregação de mais de uma inteface física de rede em uma interface lógica .Veja agumas funcionalidade do Link Aggregation: · Aumentar a largura da banda; · Imcrementar a segurança fazendo Failover e Failback; · Melhora a administração da rede; O Solaris 11.1 suporta 2(dois) tipos de Link Aggregation o Trunk aggregation e o Datalink Multipathing aggregation, ambos trabalham fazendo com que o pacote de rede seja distribuído entre as intefaces da agregação garantindo melhor utilização da rede.vamos ver um pouco melhor cada um deles. Trunk Aggregation O Trunk Aggregation tem como objetivo aumentar a largura de banda, seja para aplicações que possue um tráfego de rede alto seja para consolidação. Por exemplo temos um servidor que foi adquirido para comportar várias máquinas virtuais onde cada uma delas tem uma demanda e esse servidor possue 2(duas) placas de rede. Podemos então criar uma agregação entre essas 2(duas) placas de forma que o Solaris 11.1 vai enchergar as 2(duas) placas como se fosse 1(uma) fazendo com que a largura de banda duplique, veja na figura abaixo: A figura mostra uma agregação com 2(duas) placas físicas NIC 1 e NIC 2 conectadas no mesmo switch e 2(duas) interfaces virtuais VNIC A e VNIC B. Porem para que isso funcione temos que ter um switch com suporte a LACP ( Link Aggregation Control Protocol ). A função do LACP é fazer a aggregação na camada do switch pois se isso não for feito o pacote que sairá do servidor não poderá ser montado quando chegar no switch. Uma outra forma de configuração do Trunk Aggregation é o ponto-a-ponto onde ao invéz de se usar um switch, os 2 servidores são conectados diretamente. Nesse caso a agregação de um servidor irá falar diretamente com a agregação do outro garantindo uma proteção contra falhas e tambem uma largura de banda maior. Vejamos como configurar o Trunk Aggregation: 1 – Verificando quais intefaces disponíveis # dladm show-link 2 – Verificando interfaces # ipadm show-if 3 – Apagando o endereçamento das interfaces existentes # ipadm delete-ip <interface> 4 – Criando o Trunk aggregation # dladm create-aggr -L active -l <interface> -l <interface> aggr0 5 – Listando a agregação criada # dladm show-aggr Data Link Multipath Aggregation Como vimos anteriormente o Trunk aggregation é implementado apenas 1(um) switch que possua suporte a LACP portanto, temos um ponto único de falha que é o switch. Para solucionar esse problema no Solaris 10 utilizavamos o IPMP ( IP Multipathing ) que é a combinação de 2(duas) agregações em um mesmo link ou seja, outro camada de virtualização. Agora com o Solaris 11 Update 1 isso não é mais necessário, voce pode ter uma agregação de 2(duas) interfaces físicas e cada uma conectada a 1(um) swtich diferente, veja a figura abaixo: Temos aqui uma agregação chamada aggr contendo 4(quatro) interfaces físicas sendo que as interfaces NIC 1 e NIC 2 estão conectadas em um Switch e as intefaces NIC 3 e NIC 4 estão conectadas em outro Swicth. Além disso foram criadas mais 4(quatro) interfaces virtuais vnic A, vnic B, vnic C e vnic D que podem ser destinadas a diferentes aplicações/zones. Com isso garantimos alta disponibilidade em todas a camadas pois podemos ter falhas tanto em switches, links como em interfaces de rede físicas. Para configurar siga os mesmo passos da configuração do Trunk Aggregation até o passo 3 depois faça o seguinte: 4 – Criando o Trunk aggregation # dladm create-aggr -m haonly -l <interface> -l <interface> aggr0 5 – Listando a agregação criada # dladm show-aggr Depois de configurado seja no modo Trunk aggregation ou no modo Data Link Multipathing aggregation pode ser feito a troca de um modo para o outro, pode adcionar e remover interfaces físicas ou vituais. • Help debugging c fifos code - stack smashing detected - open call not functioning - removing pipes

  I have three bugs/questions regarding the source code pasted below: stack smashing deteced: In order to compile and not have that error I have addedd the gcc compile flag -fno-stack-protector. However, this should be just a temporary solution, since I would like to find where the cause for this is and correct it. However, I haven't been able to do so. Any clues? For some reason, the last open function call doesn't work and the programs just stops there, without an error, even though the fifo already exists. I want to delete the pipes from the filesystem after before terminating the processes. I have added close and unlink statements at the end, but the fifos are not removed. What am I doing wrong?
