    Hi All, I asked another question, stating that the I am unable to use WCF in a new Web Service project and have come to see that it seems to be the technology to use in regards to extensibility and security. My question is a simple one: How can I persuade management (and developers for that matter) to move over to using WCF as opposed to other web service technologies (ASMX/CFC)?     Google Chrome keeps telling me that I need to update icedtea, I tried installing them from terminal, didn't work so I'm installing icedtea and icedtea-web from source, when I do ./configure it tells me that fastjar isn't installed so I installed it, then it tells me that gawk isn't installed and I installed it and now it says: checking for a JDK home directory... configure: error: "A JDK JDK home directory could not be found. I have openjdk7 installed, how to fix it?

    I have a problem with my pc, you can read about it here if you like http://yhoo.it/qIQyMw anyway, I might go for ubuntu, the thing is I'm in Lebanon and here few, very few people use linux, most of them never heard about ubuntu lol, therefore you'll be really lucky if you can buy an ubuntu cd or even if you find someone can find someone capable of installing it. So when they fix my pc, they might install xp coz they don't have a linux operating system, and i hate win 7 and vista so I'll have to download ubuntu and install it by myself, I don't want to dual boot coz i don't have a super computer lol, i have used ubuntu on my vps, never on desktop before so i would like to know if you can download ubuntu, install it, on a xp pro, then remove xp pro? is there any tutorial? thank you

He prefers a dark background and light colored fonts and needs to sit very close to the display.

Thats the problem everytime that i tried to boot it came an error... syslinux no default or ui configuration directive found. Before post an answer i already tried renamed isolinux etc (folder and cfg n bin) with syslinux and tried too using yumi, universal boot and live linux... Thanks for ur help!

  • Prolific PL2303 and Ubuntu 12.04 (english)

    I am having the same issue as posted here Prolific PL2303 and Ubuntu 12.04 (only in english). The usb to serial adapter worked fine on 11.10 but after upgrade to 12.04 it is not recognized in lusb. if i connect the device after boot and then run: dmesg | grep tty i get: [ 101.305275] usb 2-1.4.4: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB3 seems like it is working fine, but a running the command few seconds later adds the line: [ 107.788672] pl2303 ttyUSB3: pl2303 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB3 after this the device is no longer detected at all. any suggestions??

My question really is: Is it appropriate to create a string padded to a length (ideally to pre-allocate the internal buffer), and then to modify the String using GCHandle::Alloc and the mess above.   • No Outbound Internet on Windows Home Server

    Could someone provide some steps for me to check my internet connection on my Windows Home Server? It seems to have intermittent connectivity issues and I am unsure of how to diagnose the problem because it is a headless (no monitor, no keyboard) machine so the only way to get to the device is via remote desktop (which works fine). When connected to the machine, it doesn't pull up any microsoft.com sites and some other sites it does pull up (i.e. gmail.com) and some it doesn't (stackoverflow.com). To make matters more complicated, it has worked intermittently in the past for reasons unknown. Are there tools I can use to properly diagnose the reason for the connection failure? I can ping 127.0.0.1 just fine, I have internet working on my other router-connected machines, so I'm not sure why this one would fail. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and up-voted :) ** edit - thanks for suggestions guys, I'm going to try these tonight and will update my post. ** edit #2 - I hoping this is a more permanant fix, but I have both changed my port on the router as well as restarted the router at the same time. The internet (for the moment) appears to be working. I will be sure to try everything we have discussed should this problem persist. Thanks, Kyle

Management would like to create several new sites, one for each of a handful of clients. These sites will be used like "dropboxes" or FTP sites so that my company can make large files available to outside contacts, and vice versa. Here are my requirements: I do not want to have to create Active Directory accounts for each external contact. If possible, I would like to store the external usernames and passwords in a database that I can write a small GUI for so that management can handle adding their own external contacts. Each client site must be sandboxed from each other and from my main company SharePoint site. I would like to keep everything running on port 80 and be able to access the sites as either clientname.mycompany.com or www.mycompany.com/clientname If anybody has ever done this I would really appreciate hearing about any lessons you learned and suggestions for how to set this up.
