• Godaddy registrar and Amazon Web Services EC2/Route 53

  Ok - I currently have a site hosted on Godaddy and they are the registrar for my domain. My goal is to have my site hosted on AWS with an EC2 server, which I have already set up and it is ready to go. In order to migrate my domain name to Amazon I have set up an A record with Godaddy and another A record with Route 53 (Amazon's routing service) with both of them pointing to the new static IP of the AWS site. My question is - Godaddy told me that I should leave my nameservers as Godaddy since my email is with them and set up an MX record wit Amazon pointing to it. Does this sound correct? Can you leave nameservers with Godaddy and have A records pointed to the new IP? Are there any benefits/cons to this? *FOR THE RECORD - My site is DOWN right now after doing the change - Godaddy says it will take 2 hours to come back, but I'm not sure if their nameserver recommendation is correct.

• Is there a method to instantly, dynamically switch between several sets of name servers on a single domain with code?

  I usually set name servers at an ISP, they often take 24 - 48 hours to resolve. If one has 2 separate sets of name servers (say from 2 domain parking companies) they want to send traffic to, is it possible to switch between the sets instantly without any delays? To be clear, how do you switch mydomain.com (ns1.nameserver1.com, ns2.nameserver1.com) to mydomain.com (ns1.nameserver2.com, ns2.nameserver2.com) instantly?

• BIND9 DNS Problems - Not resolving

  I host a BIND9 DNS server for my VirtualMin users to use. And It only resolves for 75% of the people. It has been WELL over 1 week now. • Issues using gmail with google apps and external domain

  I have recently tried to use gmail through google apps as my main email client, but I'm experiencing a few different problems. I am managing the domain (conjunktiondesign.co.uk) through 123reg.co.uk but it is hosted through fasthosts.co.uk. I transfered the domain to 123reg as fasthosts did not allow me to change the MX records myself. I followed the setup instructions step by step on google apps and changed the MX records as they told me to. My email was now working perfectly but my website was down and I was getting the following error: The dnsserver returned: No DNS records I have a friend that is using the same system as me (ie. Externally hosted domain and google apps mail) and I changed my 123reg details to the same that he had (as his was working perfectly - both email and website). I changed my name servers to point to fasthosts, rather than 123reg and I added an A record called '@' pointing to fasthosts IP address. I also created another A record called 'www' pointing to fasthosts IP address. After I did this, my website worked almost immediately but I have only realised that since changing it my email is now down. I have not received anything since Saturday. I am a web designer and would consider myself fairly tech savvy, but I have no idea about A records, CNAME's and all the things I have been messing about with! What I ultimately need is someone to help me get my email and website working at the same time, rather than one being down when the other is OK. I seem only able to get one or the other working. I have now changed the name servers back to 123reg in an attempt to get my email back as it is more important than my website at this stage. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

  Take this scenario: domain: foobar.com ns1: 2.2.2.2 ns2: 3.3.3.3 My question: Is ns2 hit just in the event that ns1 is down? Or, is ns2 hit any time that ns1 returns a miss/doesn't resolve the query? I know ns2 would be hit if ns1 ever went down; but, what if ns1 is up and just doesn't have the data?

• Mail being delivered to both old and new server.

  Two days ago I migrated our old site to a new server. I turned down the ttl before I did it and some email is still going to our old server and some to our new after a little over 48 hours. Both these are on shared hostgator sites. From what I can tell everything is set up properly. An nslookup points to the right ip address. Any insight? Support just tells me that everything is set up properly and I have to wait for propagation. I've never had it take over 48 hours though.

I can visit my site with http://IP/ but not with http://domain.com. What changes do I need to make so that I can visit my site with http://domain.com.   i have hosting accout in go daddy its a delux plan so i can assign more than one url right now i got two of them they both registerd throgh go daddy in the same account. right now i would like to give some storage space to a freind that have a url ( also go ddady) in a different account . and i do not know how to do it . i think he needs to set up his name servers as my name servers so he did and than i should add his url in the domain maneger i did that also and even installed joomla on this particular folder that i assinged to his url nothing happenend . am i missing somthing ? plz help if you can :)

  I would like to move my website from host A to host B I have uploaded a copy of my site to the new host, while keeping the old copy in place with the old host I will need to update the nameservers to point to the new nameservers. I'll want to change the DNS settings of domain name to point to new host b To avoid down time for the DNS change to propagate through the net, can I add the old nameservers and new nameservers together without causing problems, or must I delete the old nameservers first?   I'm trying to change nameservers for some of my domains at GoDaddy, but I occasionally run into "Nameserver not registered" problems, and then I'm not allowed to set the nameservers. Here are the cases I've tried, and I still don't understand what it takes to have a registered nameserver. With ns1 and ns2 pointing to my nameservers, I can set the nameservers successfully when I set up domains as follows: Host Summary entries for ns1 and ns2 at GoDaddy .co.cc domains with A records for ONLY ns1 and ns2 Hosted with other nameservers. Have only A records for ns1 and ns2 But these do NOT work (nameserver not registered error): .info domains at GoDaddy with A records for ONLY ns1 and ns2 Hosts with dyndns.org that point to IP of nameservers Also, when I dig any domains hosted at my nameservers using any of the above, I get the correct response. So what's the deal here? Why do the last two cases get "nameserver not registered errors"? Thanks!

  I added the Dreamhost's nameservers like 12 hours ago to: I entered to the following panel: Nameservers -> Set Nameservers (I have specific nameservers for my domains) and added Dreamhost's nameservers liek this: Nameserver 1: NS1.DREAMHOST.COM Nameserver 2: NS2.DREAMHOST.COM Nameserver 3: NS3.DREAMHOST.COM So now in the admin panel I see this: Nameservers Nameservers: (Last Update 2/10/2011) NS1.DREAMHOST.COM NS2.DREAMHOST.COM NS3.DREAMHOST.COM But I get this when I run the analysis tools: Attention Required! There are critical issues Accessing Your Web Site Accessing Your Web Site Properly configuring your domain name and hosting account ensures that visitors can access your site. Did I do something wrong or I have to wait 24 to 48 hours? (Dreamhost does display my page because I can access the other domain name I bought together with the hosting) (By the way, if everyone uses the same nameserver, how will go GoDaddy know which is the hosting space that I purchased among all others)?   Basically, my unmanaged VPS provider doesn't supply me with nameserver which I can use with my domain provider to route domain to my server. As I've been told: You need to configure the custom DNS server in your VPS, to setup the custom nameservers. Please refer the following article that would help: http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/wiki/index.php/Quick_HOWTO_:_Ch18_:_Configuring_DNS Once you configure the nameserver records, please update the domain registrar panel with the custom nameserver details. I tried to follow this guide but it seems to be a bit outdated, and I am complete newb with non-windows systems. I also scanned the google for other articles which could help me with this problem but, alas, nothing I found was of any value for someone who doesn't know this stuff better than his own pockets. I realize this is quite a complex thing to do, but maybe there is some way to automate it? Or a better solution, like a paid service which would act as my nameservers (this one would be interesting), or even hoped to find some company which "rents" people to do stuff like that. Blah, any help will be appreciated, I am at a complete loss here. I can follow some of these steps, but then I soon find that half of the files which are mentioned in the article are somehow not existing anywhere on the server which confuses me, and once we get to the point of creating Zone I can't really decipher all the things written there :/. As per title, my system is Debian 5.0.

  I followed this document to configure master-slave powerdns servers... http://linuxmanage.com/master-slave-powerdns-managed-by-poweradmin.html Installation completed perfectly no errors even I feel DNS is trying to resolve some queries and parameter.. but while going through intodns.com i get below error for domain names which i have created in powerdns name server installed as above guide. Error Mismatched NS records WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records. Error Multiple Nameservers ERROR: Looks like you have less than 2 nameservers. According to RFC2182 section 5 you must have at least 3 nameservers, and no more than 7. Having 2 nameservers is also ok by me. Error Missing nameservers You should already know that your NS records at your reported by your nameservers are missing, so here it is again: nameservers ns1.makeittiny.com. ns2.makeittiny.com. I am much new to powerdns so not able to figure out where problem.. i check all things but not able to make out where problem remains.

  This is driving me nuts, because I know I'm missing something simple. I've read numerous articles/posts about how to point (not transfer) your domain to a new web host. They all say to change the name server settings at your old host, so here is what I did: On old host (1and1.com) changed the name server settings to those of my new host (inmotionhosting.com) like below: Domain name : mydomain.com Name server 1: ns.inmotionhosting.com Name server 2: ns2.inmotionhosting.com ... and confirmed this is active (did it a couple days ago) This is where every post/article I've found stops. They imply this is all that needs to be done. But how does the new host know to point the domain to my account, and the directory in my account I want it work from?? There's go to be something else to be done - just pointing to the generic name servers of the new host can't be all there is to it. Thanks in advance...I'm bewildered...

• A record point not working

  I'm trying to do an A record point to transfer the hosting of a domain from one provider to another. I don't want to change the nameservers as this will result in emails going down. The output when I dig for the domain shows the correct IP (78.46.63.87) for the new host. I know A records can take a while to propagate but Its been over 36hrs now and I still keep getting this error(below) when I try to pull the domain through as an addon domain via Cpanel on the new host. Are the old nameservers conflicting with the A record point? here's the error: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 208.80.125.4,208.80.126.4,208.80.124.4,208.94.148.4 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

If both Ip addresses point to the same server, it does not help? I mean each server has own Ip address. If one server down, then visitors can access website (files) on another server? Is this the reason why need more than one Ip? Tried to point website to 2 ip addresses and after some time get warning from uptimerobot Connection Timeout

• Systemd-networkd: How can I prepend a static nameserver entry to DHCP-discovered nameservers?

  I'm using systemd 213 on Arch Linux, and systemd-networkd with DHCP to connect to the internet. I'm also running a caching DNS server on 127.0.0.1. I'd like to make this server the first DNS server in the list, but I'd also like to use the nameservers discovered by systemd-networkd's DHCP facility. Using a static resolv.conf isn't really possible, because I connect to networks with different DNS settings. I know I can set fallback DNS servers in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf, but is there a way with systemd-networkd to prepend my local DNS server to those discovered by DHCP?
