• Unable to modify variables phpmyadmin via variables tab (Xampp)

  I am quite new to phpmyadmin configuration. I had project where utf8 encoding is needed. What i'm trying to do is to change the variables text/char all into utf8. I changed, yes at that moment the values changed into values I wanted. But then when I terminate Xampp and reenters phpmyadmin page or even refreshing the page, all the values restored to default (original values). My phpmyadmin had default user as root and hadn't been set a password yet. There is also no logout button in phpmyadmin landing page. I had difficult time even to set the server connection collation (hangs indefinitely and never seems can be updated). phpmyadmin version:4.1.6 mysql:5.5.36 (latest version) I doubt this could be due to malformed installation, because same things happened in my other computer too (exactly the same versions). what could be wrong? thanks.

• How Can I switch the session storage according to the client on Ruby on Rails 2.3.5

  Hi! I have a question about sessions on ruby-on-rails. We have a several options about session storage such as cookie, active_record_store, etc.. I primarily use the cookie storage, but, there are some client which doesn't support cookie function. In that case, I have to make that client to use the "active_record_store". My rails version is 2.3.5. I found out that even though I use the active_record_store, the cookie is still available. In my situation, both session storage might be available. So, I want to make the framework to primarily use the cookie, when the cookie is available. On the other hand, the client doesn't support the cookie, secondly to use the active_record_store. I think this function requires some override to the framework, but I don't know how to do it. Do you have any idea for that? Thank you very much in advance.

I get the same message when running Compiz from the command line in 3D (it opens fine through the GUI (same thing for AWN)). I understand that these should be the default managers for the respective sessions. I'm trying to create a custom Gnome session using the following instructions: unity launcher-free session. Here is what I've put into my .session file: [GNOME Session] Name=Custom Unity2D Session RequiredComponents=gnome-settings-daemon; RequiredProviders=windowmanager;panel; DefaultProvider-windowmanager=metacity DefaultProvider-panel=unity-2d-panel FallbackSession=ubuntu-2d DesktopName=GNOME Since I'm having problems identifying my default, and the code refers to Metacity, I figured this may be relevant to my inability to load the custom session (it shows up on my login screen, but won't launch). I tried specifying Metacity as my default manager by adding exec metacity to the .xinitrc file, and I tried running metacity --replace, but neither worked. How do I determine my current default window manager, what should the default be, and how do I re-assign it? Also, please let me know if you think there may be other issues affecting my custom session. I am new to Linux, so list anything you think might be helpful. Thank you!

I initially thought I was going to have to manipulate the session variables on each "set" so that the new values were updated in the session. However I tried using it as-is, and somehow, it remembers state. For example, if run this code on one page: UserContext.Current.User.FirstName = "Micah"; And run this code in a different browser tab, FirstName is displayed correctly: Response.Write(UserContext.Current.User.FirstName); Can someone tell me (prove) how this data is getting persisted in the session? • XFCE session with GNOME in background

  Hi askUbuntu I recently installed XFCE on my Ubuntu 10.04 and it runs finely but with an issue. Everytime I login into my XFCE session I see the background image of GNOME session and after few seconds it disappears which gives me the impression that XFCE session is running over an already running GNOME session. If that is really the case then it might also be eating into my system's RAM which could be a bug. All helps and suggestions are welcome.

  I've seen developers use two approaches when they are done with a session object. 1) Session.Remove(key) 2) Session(key) = nothing What is the better approach of the two above?   I'm trying to convert a game I made (WindowsFormApplication) to an ASP Page. My Problem is that I have a lot "private" variables in my WindowFormApplication and those variables are important for the game. But when after I Declare all my variables (in my Page_Load), they turn null no matter what I do(click a button, refresh the page). Is there anyway to save my variables between buttons (other than Session, because I'd have to create like 6 more sessions)

  My problem is that when I open web application from Outlook in a separate IE window, the ASP.NET session is lost. This is (as described in several places) because in-memory cookie is lost. So it goes like this: User works with ASP.NET web application in Outlook, and this stores some info in ASP.NET session User clicks Print to open new IE window with print-ready data The new window has different ASP.NET session ID and can't access old data. I think, maybe, if I pass ASP.NET session ID to new IE window, I can somehow "attach" to that session? Tell ASP.NET that this is the one that I need to be current?

  Hi, i came across a weird behavior today w/ my web application. When I navigate from a page to another, I lose one particular session variable data. I'm able to launch the app in firefox and able to see that the session data is not lost. I use Response.Redirect(page2, false) to redirect to another page. • PHP Session variable isset(..)=1 after session_start()

I guess I am not understanding the scope of session variables, or the session itself, in PHP, hence this question: This is my code if(!session_id()==""){ echo "Getting rid of session"."</br>"; session_destroy(); } echo "Before session_start(): ".isset($_SESSION["first_date_of_week"])."</br>"; session_start(); echo "After session_start(): ".isset($_SESSION["first_date_of_week"])." ".$_SESSION["first_date_of_week"]->format("Y-m-d")."</br>"; The output is: Before session_start(): After session_start(): 1 2011-01-09 How come that when doing the isset(..) on the session variable it is set directly after starting the session, even though I haven't even used it or set it yet? It does, however, still have the same value as before. Also, session_id()="" since the if-clause is never triggered. I never kill the session, how come it is set to ""? I.e. I refresh the page and expects the session to still be alive. Using the isset(..) function is then pretty useless testing if it has been set already... Thanks in advance! /Niklas

  What is the best method to use and share variables between functions in non object-oriented program languages? Let's say that I use 10 parameters from DB, ID and 9 other values linked to it. I need to work with all 10 parameters in many functions. I can do it next ways: 1. call functions only with using ID and in every function get the other parameters from DB. Advantage: local variables are clear visible, there is only one input parameter to function Disadvantage: it's slow and there are the same rows for getting parameters in every function, which makes function longer and not so clear 2. call functions with all 10 parameters Advantage: working with local variables, clear function code Disadvantage: many input parameters, what is not nice 3. getting parameters as global variables once and using them everywhere Advantage - clearer code, shorter functions, faster processing Disadvantage - global variables - loosing control of them, possibility of unwanted overwriting (Especially when some functions should change their values) Maybe there is some another way how to implement this and make program cleaner and more effective. Can you say which way is the best for solving this issue?

  I have an asp:ImageButton with OnClick="Btn_OnClick". In Btn_OnClick I have this line: DataTable dtTable = (DataTable)Session["someSessionKey"] and dtTable is altered in the function. I've noticed that if the button's clicked more than once, the dtTable I take from the session contains the altered table, probably meaning dtTable is not a copy but a reference of the session variable. How can I alter a copy of Session["someSessionKey"], and not the actual value? Thanks!

  I was wondering what is the best way to start the guest session from the login screen (GDM). Currently, I created a new user called 'ubuntu-guest' (has to be something other than 'guest'). Then added the following script to the Startup Applications. #!/bin/bash /usr/share/gdm/guest-session/guest-session-launch & /usr/bin/gnome-session-save --logout The problem with this method, is that when you log in as 'ubuntu-guest', you have to start up two gnome sessions: one for 'ubuntu-guest' and one for the actual guest account.   I have a website, it is split into 3 categories but using PHP its an all-in one kind of style. When a user chooses a category on the home page a session is set, this is then used to set the style and contents of the website. Would Googlebot and other bots be able to still scan my website? If a page is accessed and no session is set then the user is sent back to the home page. I have created special links, that set a session but go straight to the contact page. Even this page doesn't seem to be showing up. Any ideas if a sitemap with specially crafted links (to set the session) will help Google?

  I have seen several developers looking for a solution for this problem: accessing session information from a different WAR (even when inside the same EAR) - here are some samples: Any way to share session state between different applications in tomcat?, Access session of another web application, different WAR files, shared resources, Tomcat: How to share data between two applications?, What does the crossContext attribute do in Tomcat? Does it enable session sharing? and so on... From all I have searched, there are some specific solutions depending on the container, but it is somehow 'contrary to the specification'. I have also looked through Java EE specification without any luck on finding an answer. Some developers talk about coupling between web applications, but I tend to disagree. What is the reason one would keep WARs inside the same EAR if not coupling? EJBs, for instance, can be accessed locally (even if inside another EJB JAR within the same EAR). More specifically, one of my WARs handles authentication and authorization, and I would like to share this information with other WARs (in the same EAR). I have managed to work around similar problems before by packaging WARs as JARs and putting them into a singular WAR project (WEB-INF/lib). Yet I do not like this solution (it requires a huge effort on servlet naming and so on). And no solution has answered the first (and most important) question: Why can't WARs share session information?

Even when I run the script straight into the terminal like so: ./setup.sh I see the "DONE!" prompt printed but no aliases or env variables are set. If I copy and paste the contents of the file into the terminal the aliases and env variables are set. I have tried adding a line to execute the script from .bashrc also but still no aliases or env variables set. Any ideas what might be going on here? Also could anyone suggest a better way to have these env variables/aliases added to every terminal session?
