I am entering my senior year next year and stumbled upon this certificate program for web development from Hunter College: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/ce/certificates/computer/web-programming So the question is, would it be beneficial for me to complete this program or to just attend a few elective courses in the summer at a school such as NYU? Would this certificate be good for my resume?     Almost every article I've read 1 comparing Git and Mercurial it seems like Mercurial has a better command line UX with each command being limited to one idea only (unlike say git checkout). But at some point Git suddenly became looking super popular and number of Git submitters on Debian popcorn graph (see graph image below) literally exploded. Source: Debian What happened in 2010-01 that things suddenly changed. Looks like GitHub was founded earlier than that - 2008.

  • How to boot from toshiba recovery partition after installing ubuntu 14.04.1? [duplicate]

    This question already has an answer here: How to remove Ubuntu and put Windows back on? 14 answers Im new here and have not found a post even close to this so here it is: i installed ubuntu 14.04.1 over my Windows 7 Home Premium installation. didn't loose any important data.skip to when the install is done i tried out ubuntu and got sick of it after a while.(the try ubuntu option was greyed out) i got sick of ubuntu after about an hour and i tried to boot into my recovery partition. That's where im running into trouble: you are supposed to hold down the numerical "0" while turning on the power. but it just proceeds to load grub/ubuntu and does not even try to boot into the recovery partition. "000000000000" is all i get from holding it down I know the recovery partition is intact,but i cant access it,even when setting a boot flag on it. i am stumped and i really need answers thanks in advance! specs Toshiba satellite l775 intel core i3 dual core processor original os:windows 7 home premium 64 bit sp1 let me know if you need more info!

  • Inserting new <TD> elements into a table row.

    I have created a small application written in XHTML, JavaScript/JQuery and PHP. The PHP reads and writes to a small SQLite database. How would i go about inserting cells into a pre-scripted table. The cells would need to be configured using some information from my database. For example, below are two cells with their data retrieved from my database: Cell One Starts: 120px; Finishes: 180px; Background: Blue; Cell Two Starts: 240px; Finishes: 300px; Background: Green; On my table row, it is 500px in width. How would I insert the cells above into the row. In this example, the first cell would start 120px into the row and have a width of 180px. The second cell would start 240px into the row and have a width of 300px. I just cant seem to work out a way of doing this, any ideas would be very helpful.   • Loadbalance UDP traffic with session affinity and way to take servers in & out of rotation

    What is the best way to go about load balancing UDP traffic among a whole bunch of servers, while keeping session affinity based on the users' IP? I need to also be able to take servers in and out of rotation for new clients, so when they join for the first time, they get put on a server in a list of available servers, and clients already connected would stay connected to their specific server. I have written the software to maintain a list, but I can't seem to find anything that would perform this functionality. If you need the context, this is to facilitate game tournaments for Minecraft: Pocket Edition, which is done with UDP traffic, I cannot change the protocol. And, because tournaments open and close, I need to be able to place players on their proper servers. Performance is also a priority, I have a program to do this but it is very bloated and slow. Before its fine i can ping google.co.uk after cant get out. Is there something wrong in my syntax here or what is the issue...? Im just trying to NAT my VPN so i can get internet access.     A recent TechTarget article features an interview with Business Architecture expert William Ulrich (Take a business-driven approach to application modernization ). In that article Ulrich offers this advice: "Moving from one technical architecture might be perfectly viable on a project by project basis, but when you're looking at the big picture and you want to really understand how to drive business value so that the business is pushing money into IT instead of IT pulling money back, you have to understand the business architecture. When we do that we're going to really be able to start bringing value to the table." In many respects that big picture view is what software architecture is all about. As an architect, your technical skills must be top-notch. But if you don't apply that technical knowledge within the larger context of moving the business forward, what are you accomplishing?   • How to retrieve only updated/new records since the last query in SQL?

    Hi all, I was asked to design a class for caching SQL query results. Calling the class' query method will query and cache the entire set of results at the first time; afterward, each subsequence query will retrieve only the updated portion, and will merge the result into the cache. If the class is required to be generic, i.e. NO knowledge about the db and the tables, do you have any idea? Is it possible, and how to retrieve only updated/new records since the last query? Thanks!     I just assembled my new PC and it screams, BUT it's only recognizing 8 GB of RAM in BIOS and OS rather than the installed 12 GB. In the BIOS the RAM was registering at 1066 MHz so I set it to 1600 MHz.   • Flash alternative for iBook Mac?

    I have a old Apple iBook G4 that I decided to hook up to my main TV. I like the setup because I can surf the internet on my TV now. The only thing that I can't seem to do is watch Flash videos. Apparently Flash Player 10 doesn't play nice with the iBook's graphics card's GPU, leaving all the graphics processing to the CPU which is a disaster. Others suggested downgrading to Flash Player 9, I did that, and youtube worked fine, but Hulu (The main reason I wanted to hook it up to the TV in the first place) did not. Anyone know of a Flash alternative or a Flash 10 fix for the iBook? Or even a Hulu client that doesn't require Flash.   • Apache2 Doesn't Serve Subdomain Alias

    I'm trying to prefix an existing Rails application with a sub-domain, essentially I want the sub-domain to serve the same application. Right now apache2 serves my application with "www.example.com" or "example.com". I adjusted my sites-available virtualhost in hopes of allowing for "foo.example.com" or "www.foo.example.com" however both instances are met with a domain not found error. Here is my current VirtualHost in /etc/apache2/sites-available/example.com: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ServerAlias foo.example.com *.example.com www.foo.example.com www.example.com DocumentRoot /home/user/my_app/public <Directory /home/user/my_app/public> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Any ideas? Note, I realized I probably don't need a wild card sub-domain for what I'm trying to do, I simply added that in as a last-ditch effort. Edit: The actual domain is virtualrobotgames.com with the desired subdomain being roboteer.virtualrobotgames.com

  • Diagnose Slow Video Playback during Editing [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: I Want To Start Editing Videos But My Computer Moves Slowly I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a PC with AMD 64bit Athlon Processor 2850e @ 1.80GHz, 2GB RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 graphics card I am using Pinnacle Studio 15 HD Ultimate. While editing videos the program moves normally but the playback is slow. When I press play the sound is normal but the picture is really slow and choppy. When the sound ends the picture continues to play and it speeds up. I updated the video card today, restarting the PC but get the same behaviour. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do to get video working smoothly while editing?

But I don't like to put static files (html, images, videos etc.) into {tomcat home}/webapps/myApp's subfolders instead I'd like to put them the apache webserver's root WWW directory's subdirectories. And I'd like Apache web server to serve these files alone. How could I do this? So all incoming request will be forwarded to Tomcat except those that ask for a static file.

  • 20 1TB drives vs. 10 2TB drives in RAID5/6 server

    Hi everyone, I will be setting up a server at work and I need some advice on some details. The setup will be one blade-type server (8-core, 16GB RAM) with two subsystems - one for the main storage the other to back it up. I'm shooting for a 20TB array (I know it'll be less after formatting and parity drives). So is there any advantage one way or the other with either 20 1TB drives or 10 2TB drives? I'm not sure right now how many controllers I should have either (in the quote I have is a dual-port controller). I would think two controllers for a server of this size would be a better choice than the dual-port controller (but I really don't know). And would an array of this size have any performance issues in RAID 5 or 6 (I know RAID 5 or 6 are "slower" because of all the parity calculations). Also, these will be either WD RE3 (1TB) or the RE4 (2TB). Oh, also, for the backup array would it be ok to use the WD 2TB green drives (also in RAID5 or 6)?

  • Apache unresponsive on Vista [closed]

    I had been running Apache on Vista for around a year, but recently upgraded my workstation. I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate and installed the latest version of the Apache server for win32 (2.2.11, no SSL). The service runs fine and there were no errors reported during the install, nor are there any errors in the Apache logs. However, any attempt to access the web site on localhost (or 127.0.0.1) just hangs the browser. I have used netstat to check who is listening to port 80 and it shows httpd.exe. I have also tried adjusting the .conf file to use port 8080 but this had no effect either (except to change the netstat output). This is a development system with quite a few other pieces of software installed. However, when I tried installing IIS, it worked fine (I removed it soon after before reattempting the Apache install). Using the older 2.0 version of Apache has no effect. Windows firewall is not running. I have disabled my NOD32 anti-virus. Any ideas what is going on? Regards, William

  • SSH error: "Corrupted MAC on input" or "Bad packet length"

    I have 3 boxes set up as shown: The DFW box can communicate to the SFO / internet just fine, and I send files AUS - DFW. However, every time I trying transferring DFW - AUS it fails over SSH (ssh client, rsync, scp, sftp, etc) with the following error: Corrupted MAC on input. Disconnecting: Packet corrupt Occasionally I'll get a different error: Bad packet length 2097180. Disconnecting: Packet corrupt I've restarted the DFW box, as well as replaced the network cable. I'm not sure what else might be causing problems. Right now to get files from DFW I have to use DFW - SFO - AUS which is not optimal.

  • How do I disable the touchpad using the upper left corner on an HP Pavilion dv6?

    To disable the touchpad on an HP Pavilion dv6, you double tap on an area in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad. Then the blue indicator light around the border of the touchpad turns red, and the touchpad is disabled. Double tapping on this area again turns the touchpad turns back on. I do a lot of typing, and frequently bump the touchpad, messing up my work and annoying me. So, I would like to enable the ability to disable the touchpad by double-tapping on the area in the upper left hand corner. Unfortunately, there is no function key backup to disable the touchpad. This does not work in Ubuntu. I can turn it off using touchpad-indicator, but the program must be manually started and you have to disable using the key combination. Double-tapping the area is much easier. My computer is the HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
