    I have a library of common functions that I use in several different projects, which works fine on my local machine where I can just add the path to the library, but now that I've put several of my projects on GoogleCode, I'm not sure how to deal with the external library. Do I put copies of it in each project and try to keep them all synchronized with each other, or is there a better way?

    I cant finish Apache2 install, also cannot remove it. It has blocked my dpkg, now I cant get no installations in or out. I even tried distro upgrade, but it did still has broken dpkg..     I have several places in my app where I need to select a Foo for further processing from a list of Foo objects. I'd like to do this as a modal view, but neither UIPicker nor UITableView seems to lend itself to the standard approach, since the usual way to do a modal view controller involves setting the parent view controller up as the delegate, and both of those classes need to implement data source protocols, etc. Implementing the data source and selection protocol methods in my parent view controller defeats the purpose of trying to use one common class for implementing this modal selector screen all over my app. Does anyone have any solutions to this problem or am I effectively stuck implementing this selector class over and over again?

For example (ARMv6), the following sequence of instructions sets each byte of Rd equal to the unsigned minimum of the corresponding bytes of Ra and Rb: USUB8 Rd, Ra, Rb SEL Rd, Rb, Ra Links to tutorials / uncommon SIMD techniques are good too :) ARMv6 is the most interesting for me, but x86(SSE,...)/Neon(in ARMv7)/others are good too.   • How to overcome vc++ warning C4003 while writing common code for both gcc and vc++

    I have a code that is compiled in both gcc and vc++. The code has a common macro which is called in two scenarios. When we pass some parameters to it. When we don't want to pass any parameters to it. An example of such a code is: #define B(X) A1##X int main() { int B(123), B(); return 0; } The expect output from the pre-processing step of compilation is: int main() { int A1123, A1; return 0; } The output for both gcc and vc++ is as expected, but vc++ gives a warning: warning C4003: not enough actual parameters for macro 'B' How can I remove this warning and yet get the expected output?     One thing I love about ruby is that mostly it is a very readable language (which is great for self-documenting code) However, inspired by this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/609612/ruby-code-explained and the description of how ||= works in ruby, I was thinking about the ruby idioms I don't use, as frankly, I don't fully grok them. So my question is, similar to the example from the referenced question, what common, but not obvious, ruby idioms do I need to be aware of to be a truly proficient ruby programmer? By the way, from the referenced question a ||= b is equivalent to if a == nil || a == false a = b end (Thanks to Ian Terrell for the correction) Edit: It turns out this point is not totally uncontroversial.     I'm using the Windows Forms Application settings architecture (or however you're supposed to refer to it) and am successfully saving user settings to AppData. What I want to do is have some settings common to all users of a particular machine and some settings which roam with users across machines. For example I have some settings relating to a peripheral attached to the computer (model, settings etc.) and some user preferences like user interface colours. The colours preferences should roam with the user, but the peripheral settings should stay on the local computer no matter who's logged on. How can I mark these types of settings so that some get stored in /AppData/... and some in /AppData? Note that I don't want Application level settings - each computer the app will be installed on will have different settings. I'm targetting .Net 3.0 if that makes a difference.

    For the life of me, I can't remember how to set, delete, toggle or test a bit in a bitfield. Either I'm unsure or I mix them up because I rarely need these. So a "bit-cheat-sheet" would be nice to have. For example: flags = flags | FlagsEnum.Bit4; // Set bit 4. or if ((flags == FlagsEnum.Bit4)) == FlagsEnum.Bit4) // Is there a less verbose way? Can you give examples of all the other common operations, preferably in C# syntax using a [Flags] enum?

  • Database of common translated phrases for localization?

    I'd like to localize my app into a few other languages, all of which I can barely order a drink in. Does anyone know of an online resource for translations of common software menu options, messages, etc. into other languages? Given the number of developers (both OSS and closed-source) that deal with localization, and the overlap of resource strings between, it seems like a pretty obvious fit for a wiki or open source package, but I can't seem to find anything like this. I could try to mine the Windows resource files or dig around in resource strings in robust OSS apps like Firefox, but I suspect I'm not the first person to think of this and surely there is a site that I'm just not finding yet. Update: since nothing exists like this that I could find, I started a feeble attempt at an open-source string library.
