• Can a MySQL slave be a master at the same time?

  I am in the process of migrating 2 DB servers (Master & Slave) to two new DB Servers (Master and Slave) DB1 - Master (production) DB2 - Slave (production) DB3 - New Master DB4 - New Slave Currently I have the replication set up as: DB1 -> DB2 DB3 -> DB4 To get the production data replicated to the new servers, I'd like to get it "daisy chained" so that it looks like this: DB1 -> DB2 -> DB3 -> DB4 Is this possible? • --log-slave-updates is OFF but some updates are still logged to the slave binary log?

  MySQL version 5.5.14 According to the document, by the default, slave does not log to its binary log any updates that are received from a master server. • MySQL is hogging my server resources

  Does anyone have any idea of what can cause this weird behaviour and how I go about fixing it? This is all coming from MySQL only (both RAM and CPU usage), for about 10 minutes after I reboot my Java game server (that has a pool of 256 connections). There are not that many queries and I think it may be more of a MySQL misconfiguration problem. My server: 3.20 GHz * 6 core / 24 GB RAM / 64 bit Windows Server 2003. My game server: Java server, with 256 MySQL connections pool (MyISAM engine), about 500,000 accounts, and 9 million rows of game items in database and about 3,000 players are connected. After about 15 minutes of the game server reboot, the server resumes its stability and CPU usage drop down to 1% ~ 5% and memory to 6 GB. Here is a copy of my MySQL configuration. Also, any advice about my MySQL configuration will be appreciated.   I'm trying to understand what an MBR is. I know it is used to boot the device, like a compact flash card. If you had five 1GB CF card from SanDisk for a camera, would there be any reason for the manufacturer to have different MBRs? It seems like to me, if for some reason one CF card wouldn't boot, you could copy the MBR from a working CF card and write it to the non-working CF card. Would this MBR for a SanDisk card work on the same size Western Digital card for the same use? Thanks!

  Hello there, we have a single domain controller with Windows 2003 with few child. All the users are in the main DC. We have already created a connection from AD to Mac Xserve 10.6 and can read all the users, but: 1. If the DC goes down (or the net), Mac lose all the users, so no file access, no emails, no nothing. 2. the users are in read only. Mac admin cannot reset password, change attribute and so on. What we need is a stable environment where both AD admins and LDAP admins can manage the users; if one server goes offline the users of the other server should work (email, shared folders) just fine. Thanks in advance P.S. we already tried to connect the MacOSX to Windows LDAP, instead of AD, but we're unable to do it: MacOSX requires DNS IP (gotcha), user admin and password (ok) and a root LDAP password we're unable to find any reference of it in Windows 2003.

  Recently I got a 160G drive to install other Unix distributions and learn to use them for the sake of my current job. However I've got only 2 drive connectors free (on the primary channel). Therefore I've decided to remove an 80G hard drive which has the MBR and the main Windows bootloader. My problem in particular is that I've got another 250G drive which has a Wubi installation of Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), which I want to preserve on the bootloader that's going to be running for all the other OSes (potentially Grub). How would I do that? Since Wubi is actually sort of windows reliant, as far as I've learned so far.

  I'm kinda like the maid... I don't do Windows. But thanks to new things we're implementing, I'm now attempting replicating a single zone from our AD cluster. We had this working just fine but someone had to "adjust" it. That broke the replication completely. We've gotten that restarted but now a different DC is showing as the SOA. Does it matter which of the domain controllers is listed as the SOA? The contents of the zone file appear to be correct. Part of me says "Good enough. Leave it be." but the rest of me doesn't want a 3AM phone call. So does anyone know if it matters which DC is listed as the SOA?

The problem is it sends back the data to main Nagios server no matter if there is a state change in host or service. Is it possible to configure the slave Nagios to check the service/Host every 5 sec but send back the data only if there is a state change. Currently it is implemented by Obsess Over Hosts/Service which always runs the command which will equalize.   Basically I want a DataGrid (master) and details (textbox), where DataGrid is disabled during edit of details (forcing people to save/cancel)... Here's what I have... I have a bound Textbox which is the 'details' (very simple right now). There are buttons (Save/Cancel) which should be enabled when user tries to edit the text. Unfortunately Silverlight doesn't support UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged so I have to raise an event: <TextBox Text="{Binding SelectedItem.AcknowledgedNote, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Explicit, ElementName=gridReminders}" TextChanged="txtAcknowledgedNote_TextChanged"/> The event to handle this calls BindingExpression.UpdateSource to update the source immediately: private void txtAcknowledgedNote_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { BindingExpression be = txtAcknowledgedNote.GetBindingExpression(TextBox.TextProperty); be.UpdateSource(); } IN other words - typing in the textbox causes CanLoad of the DomainDataSource to become False (because we're editing). This in turn disables the DataGrid (IsEnabled is bound to it) and enables 'Cancel' and 'Save' buttons. However I'm running up against a race condition if I move quickly through rows in the DataGrid (just clicking random rows). The TextChanged presumably is being called on the textbox and confusing the DomainDataSource which then thinks there's been a change. So how should I disable the DataGrid while editing without having the race condition? One obvious solution would be to use KeyDown events to trigger the call to UpdateSource but I always hate having to do that.

The ListDetails property is not being set and if I remove the declarative reference to it's viewmodel the dependency property's callback does get fired. Is there a conflict with declaratively binding to viewmodels and definig dependency properties? • Which Table Should be Master and Child in Database Design

  I am quickly learning the ins and outs of database design (something that, as of a week ago, was new to me), but I am running across some questions that don't seem immediately obvious, so I was hoping to get some clarification. The question I have right is about foreign keys. As part of my design, I have a Company table. Originally, I had included address information directly within the table, but, as I was hoping to achieve 3NF, I broke out the address information into its own table, Address. In order to maintain data integrity, I created a row in Company called "addressId" as an INT and the Address table has a corresponding addressId as its primary key. What I'm a little bit confused about (or what I want to make sure I'm doing correctly) is determining which table should be the master (referenced) table and which should be the child (referencing) table. When I originally set this up, I made the Address table the master and the Company the child. However, I now believe this is wrong due to the fact that there should be only one address per Company and, if a Company row is deleted, I would want the corresponding Address to be removed as well (CASCADE deletion). I may be approaching this completely wrong, so I would appreciate any good rules of thumb on how to best think about the relationship between tables when using foreign keys. Thanks!

• git: How to move last N commits made to master, into own branch?

  Hi all, I have a repository where I had been working on master branch having last committed some 10 or so commits which I now wish were in another branch, as they describe work that I now consider experimental (i am still learning good git practices). Basically I would like to have these last 10 commits starting from a point in master to form another branch instead, so that I can have my master in a release state (which is what I strive for.) So, this is what I have (rightmost X is the last commit good for release): b--b (feature B) / X--X--X--Z--Z--Z--Z--Z--Z (master) \ a--a--a (feature A) You can see that both X and Z are on master, while I want commits marked by Z (my feature Z work) to lie on their own feature branch, and so that rightmost X is at the tip of master forming a good master branch tip. I guess this is what I want: b--b (feature B) / X--X--X (master) \ \ \ Z--Z--Z--Z--Z--Z (feature Z - the branch I want Z on) a--a--a (feature A) That way I will have my master always ready for release, and merge A, B and Z features when the time comes.
