• WHERE IN Query with two recordsets in Access VBA

  Hi All, My first post here, so i hope this is the right area. I am currently trying to compare 2 recordsets, one of which has come from an Excel named range, and the other from a table in the Access database. The code for each is: Set existingUserIDs = db.OpenRecordset("SELECT Username FROM UserData") Set IDsToImport = exceldb.OpenRecordset("SELECT Username FROM Named_Range") The problem is that I would like to somehow compare these two recordsets, without looping (there is a very large number of records). Is there any way to do a join or similar on these recordsets? I can not do a join before creating the recordsets, due to the fact that one is coming from Excel, and the other from Access, so they are two different DAO databases. The end goal is that I will choose only the usernames that do not already exist in the access table to be imported (so in an SQL query, it would be a NOT IN(table)). I can do it in C# by looping around the returned datatable and specifically position columns using datatable.columns.setordinal() method. Is there any better way in SQL or C# to accomplish this.

  I have a vector and I need to see if all the strings in that vector are substrings of another given string. eg vector<string> v; v.push_back("str1"); v.push_back("str2"); string s1 = "str1, str2, str3"; string s2 = "str1, str3"; Is there a way to get true from s1 and false from s2 without looping over the vector? Also, note that due to my environment, I can't use boost. I think if I had boost, I could do this.

  I'm doing something in Java that requires input to be matched against the pattern ^[1-5]$. I should have a while loop looping through each line of input, checking it against the pattern, and outputting an error message if it does not. Sudo code: while (regex_match(/^[^1-5]$/,inputLine)) { print ("Please enter a number between 1 and 5! "); getNextInputLine(); } I can use java.util.Scanner.hasMatch("^[^1-5]$"), but that will only match a single token, not the entire line. Any idea on how to make hasMatch match against the entire line? (Setting the delimiter to "\n" or "\0" doesn't work.)

• Wireshark Plugin: Dissecting Payloads With Multiple Packets Per UDP Frame

  I am writing a Wireshark plugin to dissect a protocol that places multiple application-level packets in a single UDP frame. There is no enclosing protocol that indicates how many packets there are in the frame. So essentially, the payload coming down the wire will look like this: uint64 sequence1 uint64 data1 uint8 flags1 uint64 sequence2 uint64 data2 uint8 flags2 : : : uint64 sequence_n uint64 data_n uint8 flags_n In my server code that actually processes this information, I simply loop through the frame until I reach the end. In looking through the plugins included with the wireshark source code, I didn't see any protocols that did any looping like this. I know other protocols pack multiple payloads per frame. What is the cannonical or standard way to handle protocols like this in a Wireshark dissector?

  I am trying to solve this problem in Python. Noting that only the first kiss requires the alternation, any kiss that is not a part of the chain due to the first kiss can very well have a hug on the 2nd next person, this is the code I have come up with. This is just a simple mathematical calculation, no looping, no iteration, nothing. But still I am getting a timed-out message. • Can you reuse a mysql result set in PHP?

  I have a result set I pull from a large database: $result = mysql_query($sql); I loop through this recordset once to pull specific bits of data and get averages using while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)). Later in the page, I want to loop through this same recordset again and output everything - but because I used the recordset earlier, my second loop returns nothing. I finally hacked around this by looping through a second identical recordset ($result2 = mysql_query($sql);), but I hate to make the same SQL call twice. Any way I can loop through the same dataset multiple times?

  My site has a messaging feature where one user may message another. The messages support threading - a parent message may have any number of children but only one level deep. The messages table looks like this: Messages - Id (PK, Auto-increment int) - UserId (FK, Users.Id) - FromUserId (FK, Users.Id) - ParentMessageId (FK to Messages.Id) - MessageText (varchar 200) I'd like to show messages on a page with each 'parent' message followed by a collapsed view of the children messages. Can I use the GROUP BY clause or similar construct to retrieve parent messages and children messages all in one query? Right now I am retrieving parent messages only, then looping through them and performing another query for each to get all related children messages. • How to make notification to group users with read/unread flag?

  I am making a notification system so that when users in a group perform an action, it will notify all the other users in the group. I want the notification to be marked "read" or "unread" for each user of the group. With that, I can easily retreive any unread notification for a user and display it. I am think about creating a notification table that have the following fields. +----------------------+ | notification | +----------------------+ | id | | userid | | content | | status (read/unread) | | time | +----------------------+ My question is: Whether it is the correct way of making the system? As it means that when there is 1,000 users in a group, then I have to insert 1,000 rows to the table. If not, what is the better way of doing this?   Say I have the following path and file name: P:\Actuary\Cash Flow Forecast\Annual and Quarterly Budget Data\ECMQA 2012Q1.xls I want to write an if then statement that does the following (not sure if my statement is set up properly): If InStr(1, "P:\Actuary\Cash Flow Forecast\Annual and Quarterly Budget Data\ECMQA 2012Q1.xls", "QA", vbTextCompare) > 0 Then BD.Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C2").value = "2012Q1" End If Instead of just inputting "2012Q1", I want it to automatically read this from the file. The thing is I am actually looping through 12 or so files and there's two types, "ECMQA 2012Q1.xls" (or ECMQB 2012Q2.xls and so on) AND "ECM Annual Budget 2012.xlsx" If my file is the annual one (If file contains "Annual"), then I want: BD.Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C2").value = "2012" And i want it to read this from the actual file, same as the other one...not me putting in "2012" Is there a way to do this? Any help will be appreciated!

  Hi, I'm writing an app in pure C which expects two line at input: first one, which tells how big an array of int will be, and the second, which contains values, separated by space. So, for the following input 5 1 2 3 4 99 I need to create an array containing {1,2,3,4,99} Now, my question is - what is the fastest (yet easy ;)) way to do so?   when looping recursively through folders with files containing spaces the shell script I use is of this form, copied from the internet: while IFS= read -r -d $'\0' file; do dosomethingwith "$file" # do something with each file done < <(find /bar -name *foo* -print0) I think I understand he IFS bit, but I don't understand what the < < characters mean. Obviously there's some sort of piping going on here.. It's very hard to google "< <", you see. TIA -stib

• Given an even number of vertices, how to find an optimum set of pairs based on proximity?

  The problem: We have a set of n vertices in 3D euclidean space, and there is an even number of these vertices. We want to pair them up based on their proximity. In other words, we'd like to be able to find a set of vertex pairs, where the vertices in each pair are as close as possible together. We want to minimise sacrificing the proximity between the vertices of any other pairs as much as possible in doing this. I am not looking for the most optimal solution (if it even strictly exists/can be done), just a reasonable one that can be computed relatively quickly. A relatively awful brute force approach involves choosing a vertex and looping through the rest to find its nearest neighbor and then repeating until there are none left. Of course as we near the end of the list the closest vertex could be very far away, but it is the only choice, therefore this can fail badly on the third point above.

• How to extract the actual NSString from json object as NSArray

  I'm working with a large set of json and really just need the NSString representation of what's inside the NSArray -including all the { } My question is this - is their a better way than simply looping through each NSArray inside the main NSArray and outputting the description one by one? ie- the below is a start to this process but it's very brittle meaning I need to know each item inside the hat {} and this isn't something I actually care about. I just need the json string to move forward. The working code is below (thank you in advance!) • Using True and False to select items to print

  I have a workbook that contains rows of information that needs to printed to a seperate worksheet in excel. I am trying to utilize a checkbox to indicate which items need to print and which items need to be skipped. The checkbox is located in column "A" and once checked and the macro ran, I want it to pick up the data in each cell of that particular row, transfer it a seperate worksheet (form), prompt and save the worksheet to pdf, clear the form, and then return to the main worksheet to continue until all rows have been checked. However, right now, my code is only looping through the very first "TRUE" statement and not continuing to the rest. Is keys %FIELDS the only way? Secondarily, is there a more efficient way to pre-populate the fields in the constructor than looping through and assigning each parameter as I am above? Thanks!

Assuming that there are also other keys existing without this keyword. • Escaping if/else in Jade template

  So I have a simply block of html in my jade template with a loop: each dude, i in dudes div(class='someClass') div.otherStuff span.someContent #{name} I want to apply a data attribute to my top most div when a certain looping condition is met, in this case the first dude, I set it up like this each dude, i in dudes if i == 0 div(class='someClass, data-someAttr='first dude') else div(class='someClass') div.otherstuff span.someContent Setup like this it causes the div.otherStuff div and the span.someContent to only display on the else condition. I've moved the tab spaces around on those items but I can't get it escape that else and give the div.otherStuff and span.someContent to both the first dude and the subsequent dudes after that. I've also tried setting that data attr to a variable and trying to apply it that way but without any success. What I end up doing to get around it is this: each dude, i in dudes if i == 0 div(class='someClass, data-someAttr='first dude') div.otherstuff span.someContent else div(class='someClass') div.otherstuff span.someContent How do I escape that if/else so I dont have to duplicate the div.otherStuff and span.someContent?

• efficiently compare two BitArrays of the same length

  How would I do this? I am trying to count when both arrays have the same value of TRUE/1 at the same index. As you can see, my code has multiple bitarrays and is looping through each one and comparing them with a comparisonArray with another loop. It doesn't seem to be very efficient and I need it to be. foreach (bitArrayTuple in bitarryList) { for (int i = 0; i < arrayLength; i++) if (bArrayTuple.Item2[i] && comparisonArray[i]) bitArrayTuple.Item1++; } where Item1 is the count and Item2 is a bitarray.

  If I have an enumeration of dictionaries IEnumerable<IDictionary<string, float>> enumeration can I perform a Linq query on it so that I can select by a value from each dictionary in the enumeration using the same key?
