  • Getting Started With Tailoring Business Processes

    - by Richard Bingham
In this article, and for the sake of simplicity, we will use the term “On-Premise” to mean a deployment where you have design-time development access to the instance, including administration of the technology components, the applications filesystem, and the database. In reality this might be a local development instance that is then supported by a team who can deploy your customizations to the restricted production instance equivalents. Tools Overview Firstly let’s look at the Design-Time tools within JDeveloper for customizing and extending the artifacts of a Business Process. In essence this falls into two buckets; SOA Composite Editor for working with BPEL processes, and the BPM Studio. The SOA Composite Editor As a standard extension to JDeveloper, this graphical design tool should be familiar to anyone previously worked with Oracle SOA Server. With easy-to-use modeling capability, backed-up by full XML source-view (for read-only), it provides everything that is needed to implement the technical design. In simple terms, once deployed to the remote SOA Server the composite components (like Mediator) leverage the Event Delivery Network (EDN) for interaction with the application logic. If you are customizing an existing Fusion Applications BPEL process then be aware that it does support MDS-based customization layers just like Page Composer where different customizations are used based on the run-time context, like for a specific Product or Business Unit. This also makes them safe from patching and upgrades, although only a single active version of the composite is available at run-time. This is defined by a field on the composite record, available in Enterprise Manager. Obviously if you wish to fire different activities and tasks based on the user context then you can should include switches to fork the flows in your custom BPEL process. Figure 1 – A BPEL process in Composite Editor The following describes the simplified steps for making customizations to BPEL processes. This is the most common method of changing the business processes of Fusion Applications, as over 400 BPEL-based composite applications are provided out-of-the-box. Setup your local Fusion Applications JDeveloper environment. The SOA Composite Editor should be installed as part of the Fusion Applications extension. If there are problems you can also find it under the ‘Check for Updates’ help menu option. Since SOA Server is not part of the JDeveloper integrated WebLogic Server, setup a standalone WebLogic environment for deploying and testing. Obviously you might use a Fusion Applications development instance also. Package the existing standard Fusion Applications SOA Composite using Enterprise Manager and export it as a complete SOA Archive (SAR) file, resulting in a local .jar file. You may need to ask your system administrator for this. Import the exported SAR .jar file into JDeveloper using the File menu, under the option ‘SOA Archive into SOA Project’. In JDeveloper set the appropriate customization layer values, and then change from the default role to the Fusion Applications Customization Developer role. Make the customizations and save the application project. Finally redeploy the composite application, either to a direct Application Server connection, or as a fresh SAR (jar) file that can then be re-imported and deployed via Enterprise Manager. The Business Process Management (BPM) Suite In addition to the relatively low-level development environment associated with BPEL process creation, Oracle provides a suite of products that allow business process adjustments to be made without the need for some of the programming skills.  The aim is to abstract much of the technical implementation and to provide a Business Analyst tools for immediately implementing organization changes. Obviously there are some limitations on what they can do, however the BPM Suite functionality increases with each release and for the majority of the cases the tools remains as applicable as its developer-orientated sister. At the current time business processes must be explicitly coded to support just one of these use-cases, either BPEL for developer use or BPM for business analyst use. That said, they both run on the same SOA Server in much the same way. The components bundled in each SOA Composite Application can be verified by inspection through Enterprise Manager. Figure 2 – A BPM Process in JDeveloper BPM Suite. BPM processes are written in a standard notation (BPMN) and the modeling tools are very similar to that of BPEL. The steps to deploy a custom BPM process are also essentially much the same, since the BPM process is bundled into a SOA Composite just like a BPEL process. As such the SOA Composite Editor  actually has support for both artifacts and even allows use of them together, such as a calling a BPM process as a partnerlink from a BPEL process. For more details see the references below. Business Analyst Tooling In addition to using JDeveloper extensions for BPM development, there are run-time tools that Business Analysts can use to make adjustments, so that without high costs of an IT project the system can be tuned to match changes to the business operation. The first tool to consider is the BPM Composer, deployed with the middleware SOA Server and accessible online, and for Fusion Applications it is under the Business Process icon on the homepage of the Application Composer. Figure 3 – Business Process Composer showing a CRM process flow. The key difference between this and using JDeveloper is that the BPM Composer has a Business Catalog prepopulated with features and functions that can be used, mostly through registered WebServices. This means no coding or complex interface development is required, simply drag-drop-configure. The items in the business catalog are seeded by either Oracle (as a BPM Template) or added to by your own custom development. You cannot create or generate catalog content from BPM Composer directly. As per the screenshot you can see the Business Catalog content in the BPM Project browser region. In addition, other online tools for use by Business Analysts include the BPM Worklist application for editing business rules and approval management configuration, plus the SOA Composer which focuses on non-approval business rules and domain value maps. At the current time there are only a handful of BPM processes shipped with Fusion Applications HCM and CRM, including on-boarding workers and processing customer registrations.  This also means a limited number of associated BPM Templates provided out-of-the-box, therefore a limited Business Catalog. That said, BPM-based extension is a powerful capability to leverage and will most likely develop going forwards, especially for use in SaaS deployments where full design-time JDeveloper access is not available. • CRM@Oracle Series: Web Marketing Integration

    - by tony.berk
Who is visiting your website? How did they get there? Was it from a search engine? Email campaign? Are they downloading whitepapers, datasheets, presentations, software? Are they interested in attending one of your marketing events? Are you capturing these leads or which marketing campaign generated the lead? There are a lot of questions related to traffic on a website, and the answers to those questions can be found in your CRM system. Visitors who download marketing collateral are potential leads, so it is important to capture who they are, how they got there, where they went on the website and what they are looking for. Today's CRM@Oracle slidecast discusses how Oracle uses Siebel CRM to plan and execute marketing campaigns on our website, www.oracle.com, and capture the key information about who is downloading content or interested in attending one of our marketing events. The responses are captured, qualified, and if appropriate, a lead is generated. It all happens in Siebel CRM. • Is Oracle certified to run on VMWare?

    - by Mike Dietrich
This question in similar occurences gets asked during every Upgrade Workshop at least once. People would like to know if they can run an Oracle Database or Oracle Real Application Clusters or Oracle Grid Control or Oracle Fusion Middleware or ... in an VM environment with VMWare's virtualisation products. And the answer is: Yes, you can!! But ... there's a fine print you should take care on before setting up virtual environments with a different solution than XEN based Oracle VM. Please read Note:942852.1 - VMWare Certification for Oracle Products and Note:249212.1 - Support Position for Oracle Products Running on VMWare Virtualized Environments for further details: Support Status for VMware Virtualized Environments Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle products on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware. If a problem is a known Oracle issue, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution on the native OS. If that solution does not work in the VMware virtualized environment, the customer will be referred to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the Oracle solution does not work when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required. If the problem is determined not to be a known Oracle issue, we will refer the customer to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the issue occurs when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required. NOTE: Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware. For Oracle RAC, Oracle will only accept Service Requests as described in this note on Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 and later releases.

  • AWS EC2 Oracle RDB connection to Oracle Database Instance

    - by llaszews
Provisioning my Oracle database instance to AWS EC2 RDB was easy. Just a few clicks! However, getting my connection to my Oracle cloud database was not as easy. A couple things that are not obvious (using Oracle SQL Developer): 1. Need to set up a database security group. 2. Need to use end point for the host name. This video is the best one on the internet to explain both points: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocFURuX0eEw

  • Java JRE 1.6.0_35 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

    - by Steven Chan (Oracle Development)
The latest Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_35 (a.k.a. JRE 6u35-b10) is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 desktop clients.   What's new in Java 1.6.0_35?See the 1.6.0_35 Update Release Notes for details about what has changed in this release.  This release is available for download from the usual Sun channels and through the 'Java Automatic Update' mechanism. 32-bit and 64-bit versions certified This certification includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit JRE versions. 32-bit JREs are certified on: Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Service Pack 2 (SP2) Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) 64-bit JREs are certified only on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Worried about the 'mismanaged session cookie' issue? No need to worry -- it's fixed.  To recap: JRE releases 1.6.0_18 through 1.6.0_22 had issues with mismanaging session cookies that affected some users in some circumstances. The fix for those issues was first included in JRE 1.6.0_23. These fixes will carry forward and continue to be fixed in all future JRE releases.  In other words, if you wish to avoid the mismanaged session cookie issue, you should apply any release after JRE 1.6.0_22.All JRE 1.6 releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 releases to your EBS users' desktops. • Oracle's Global Single Schema

    - by david.butler(at)oracle.com
Maximizing business process efficiencies in a heterogeneous environment is very difficult. The difficulty stems from the fact that the various applications across the Information Technology (IT) landscape employ different integration standards, different message passing strategies, and different workflow engines. Vendors such as Oracle and others are delivering tools to help IT organizations manage the complexities introduced by these differences. But the one remaining intractable problem impacting efficient operations is the fact that these applications have different definitions for the same business data. Business data is your business information codified for computer programs to use. A good data model will represent the way your organization does business. The computer applications your organization deploys to improve operational efficiency are built to operate on the business data organized into this schema.  If the schema does not represent how you do business, the applications on that schema cannot provide the features you need to achieve the desired efficiencies. Business processes span these applications. Data problems break these processes rendering them far less efficient than they need to be to achieve organization goals. Thus, the expected return on the investment in these applications is never realized. The success of all business processes depends on the availability of accurate master data.  Clearly, the solution to this problem is to consolidate all the master data an organization uses to run its business. Then clean it up, augment it, govern it, and connect it back to the applications that need it. Until now, this obvious solution has been difficult to achieve because no one had defined a data model sufficiently broad, deep and flexible enough to support transaction processing on all key business entities and serve as a master superset to all other operational data models deployed in heterogeneous IT environments. Today, the situation has changed. Oracle has created an operational data model (aka schema) that can support accurate and consistent master data across heterogeneous IT systems. This is foundational for providing a way to consolidate and integrate master data without having to replace investments in existing applications. This Global Single Schema (GSS) represents a revolutionary breakthrough that allows for true master data consolidation. Oracle has deep knowledge of applications dating back to the early 1990s.  It developed applications in the areas of Supply Chain Management (SCM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Human Capital Management (HCM), Financials and Manufacturing. In addition, Oracle applications were delivered for key industries such as Communications, Financial Services, Retail, Public Sector, High Tech Manufacturing (HTM) and more. Expertise in all these areas drove requirements for GSS. The following figure illustrates Oracle's unique position that enabled the creation of the Global Single Schema. GSS Requirements Gathering GSS defines all the key business entities and attributes including Customers, Contacts, Suppliers, Accounts, Products, Services, Materials, Employees, Installed Base, Sites, Assets, and Inventory to name just a few. In addition, Oracle delivers GSS pre-integrated with a wide variety of operational applications.  Business Process Automation EBusiness is about maximizing operational efficiency. At the highest level, these 'operations' span all that you do as an organization.  The following figure illustrates some of these high-level business processes. Enterprise Business Processes Supplies are procured. Assets are maintained. Materials are stored. Inventory is accumulated. Products and Services are engineered, produced and sold. Customers are serviced. And across this entire spectrum, Employees do the procuring, supporting, engineering, producing, selling and servicing. Not shown, but not to be overlooked, are the accounting and the financial processes associated with all this procuring, manufacturing, and selling activity. Supporting all these applications is the master data. When this data is fragmented and inconsistent, the business processes fail and inefficiencies multiply. But imagine having all the data under these operational business processes in one place. ·            The same accurate and timely customer data will be provided to all your operational applications from the call center to the point of sale. ·            The same accurate and timely supplier data will be provided to all your operational applications from supply chain planning to procurement. ·            The same accurate and timely product information will be available to all your operational applications from demand chain planning to marketing. You would have a single version of the truth about your assets, financial information, customers, suppliers, employees, products and services to support your business automation processes as they flow across your business applications. All company and partner personnel will access the same exact data entity across all your channels and across all your lines of business. Oracle's Global Single Schema enables this vision of a single version of the truth across the heterogeneous operational applications supporting the entire enterprise. Global Single Schema Oracle's Global Single Schema organizes hundreds of thousands of attributes into 165 major schema objects supporting over 180 business application modules. It is designed for international operations, and extensibility.  The schema is delivered with a full set of public Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and an Integration Repository with modern Service Oriented Architecture interfaces to make data available as a services (DaaS) to business processes and enable operations in heterogeneous IT environments. ·         Key tables can be extended with unlimited numbers of additional attributes and attribute groups for maximum flexibility.  o    This enables model extensions that reflect business entities unique to your organization's operations. ·         The schema is multi-organization enabled so data manipulation can be controlled along organizational boundaries. ·         It uses variable byte Unicode to support over 31 languages. ·         The schema encodes flexible date and flexible address formats for easy localizations. No matter how complex your business is, Oracle's Global Single Schema can hold your business objects and support your global operations. Oracle's Global Single Schema identifies and defines the business objects an enterprise needs within the context of its business operations. The interrelationships between the business objects are also contained within the GSS data model. Their presence expresses fundamental business rules for the interaction between business entities. The following figure illustrates some of these connections.   Interconnected Business Entities Interconnecte business processes require interconnected business data. No other MDM vendor has this capability. Everyone else has either one entity they can master or separate disconnected models for various business entities. Higher level integrations are made available, but that is a weak architectural alternative to data level integration in this critically important aspect of Master Data Management.

  • The Oracle Linux Advantage

    - by Monica Kumar
It has been a while since we've summed up the Oracle Linux advantage over other Linux products. Wim Coekaerts' new blog entries prompted me to write this article. Here are some highlights. Best enterprise Linux - Since launching UEK almost 18 months ago, Oracle Linux has leap-frogged the competition in terms of the latest innovations, better performance, reliability, and scalability. Complete enterprise Linux solution: Not only do we offer an enterprise Linux OS but it comes with management and HA tools that are integrated and included for free. In addition, we offer the entire "apps to disk" solution for Linux if a customer wants a single source. Comprehensive testing with enterprise workloads: Within Oracle, 1000s of servers run incredible amount of QA on Oracle Linux amounting to100,000 hours everyday. This helps in making Oracle Linux even better for running enterprise workloads. Free binaries and errata: Oracle Linux is free to download including patches and updates. Highest quality enterprise support: Available 24/7 in 145 countries, Oracle has been offering affordable Linux support since 2006. The support team is a large group of dedicated professionals globally that are trained to support serious mission critical environments; not only do they know their products, they also understand the inter-dependencies with database, apps, storage, etc. Best practices to accelerate database and apps deployment: With pre-installed, pre-configured Oracle VM Templates, we offer virtual machine images of Oracle's enterprise software so you can easily deploy them on Oracle Linux. In addition, Oracle Validated Configurations offer documented tips for configuring Linux systems to run Oracle database. We take the guesswork out and help you get to market faster. More information on all of the above is available on the Oracle Linux Home Page. Wim Coekaerts did a great job of detailing these advantages in two recent blog posts he published last week. • CRM@Oracle Series: Forecasting

    - by tony.berk
What do you trust more: the weather forecast or your sales forecast? I hope the answer is your sales forecast! Either way, would your sales forecast be more accurate if sales management had visibility into what the sales reps are forecasting and what has changed since the last forecast? What if management could adjust forecasts for accuracy based on analytic tools? Today's slidecast discusses sales forecasting and how Oracle implemented forecasting in our global implementation of Siebel CRM, including the steps involved to roll up the forecast. CRM@Oracle - Forecasting Click here to learn more about Oracle CRM products and here to learn about other customers using Oracle CRM. Are you enjoying the CRM@Oracle Series? If you have a particular CRM area or function which you'd like to hear how Oracle implemented it internally, let us know and we'll get it on our list.

  • Oracle üzleti intelligencia és MySQL adatforrás

    - by Fekete Zoltán
A tegnap Oracle sajtóhír a következo bejelentésrol szól: megjelent a MySQL Cluster 7.1 új verziója. Ez is az Oracle elkötelezettségét jelzi a MySQL fejlesztése és az Open Source mellett. A témáról nemrég irt a HWSW a következo cikkben: Az Oracle betekintést engedett a MySQL jövojébe. Idézetek a cikkbol: "Santa Clarában az O'Reilly MySQL Conference and Expo rendezvényen személyesen az Oracle fomérnöke, Edward Screven beszélt arról, milyen jövot szánnak a MySQL-nek." "Screven igyekezett megerosíteni az Oracle korábbi vállalásait. "Továbbra is fejleszteni és javítani és támogatni fogjuk a MySQL-t" - szögezte le a fomérnök..." Miért is érdekes ez? Azért mert Oracle Business Intelligence csomagok egyik adatforrása a MySQL adatbázis. Azért mert az Oracle BI csomagok lelke, az Oracle BI Server egyedülállóan jól integrál heterogén adatforrásokat, mindezt egyetlen közös üzleti metaadat réteggel! Többek között erre nem képesek más szállítók.

  • CRM@Oracle Series: Complete Customer Intelligence

    - by tony.berk
How do you to get sales folks to use a CRM system? Ah, the age-old question (well, at least the one that has been around for the past 10-15 years). Of course, some combination of "Carrot and Stick" always come up as possible answers. You hear talk about, "WIFM" or "What's in it For Me?" Oracle's internal implementation of Customer 360 consolidates all customer information in one place in Siebel CRM and enables the sales rep to present one-face to the customer. Additionally, Customer 360 provides customer intelligence and prospecting tools making it a darn nice "Carrot" for our sales teams to chew on. Check out today's slidecast for an overview. CRM@Oracle - Customer 360 Click here to learn more about Siebel CRM and other Oracle CRM products and here to learn about customers using Oracle CRM. Are you enjoying the CRM@Oracle Series? If you have a particular CRM area or function which you'd like to hear how Oracle implemented it internally, let us know and we'll get it on our list.
