• courier-imap w mysql : share a folder between 2 virtual users on debian

  Hi I have a working courier-imap server on my Debian Etch private server ; users are virtual, authentificatin goes through mysql. It's been working good for years. I would like to share an imap folder between 2 users. I thought I would just have to do something like this : cd path/to/mailusers/dir ln -s path/to/user1/maildir/.folder_to_be_synched path/to/user2/maildir/ After I entered the command, I found that user2 saw a new folder in its imap client, but the folder appeared empty. It is not a permission problem because all the virtual users have the same permissions on the file system. Any idea what I could do ? thanks

• OpenSSH SFTP: chrooted user with access to other chrooted users' files

  Decided to re-phrase the question entirely in order to not have to make a new one. I currently have an SFTP server set up using OpenSSH's SFTP functionality. All my users are chrooted, and everything works. What I need most right now is for one user, which is not root (because this user can't have any real SSH powers!), to have access to all other users' chrooted dirs. This user's job is to fetch all uploaded documents every once in a while. Directory structure as of now is: /home |_ /home/user1 |_ /home/user2 |_ /home/user3 With ChrootDirectory set as /home/%u User "adminuser" should have access to user1, user2 and user3's directories without having access to /home or at the very least not to anything but /home. Bonus points for the one who can tell me how to let users write inside /home/%u without having to make a new directory inside that dir which they own themselves, and not root as is the case with /home/%u (openssh chroot prerequisite).

  I've got 2 Netgear N300 (WNR2000v3) routers. Here's my setup: Modem Router 1 Private Users/Router 2 Public Wireless Users on "Guest" Network. I want to prevent users who are connected to Router 2's "Guest" network from accessing anything that is connected to Router 1. There is an option when setting up the "Guest" network called "Allow guest to access My Local Network" which I thought if unchecked would do this very thing; however, I can still access files and such of computers connected to Router 1. Router 1 assigns 192.0.0.x IP addresses, Router 2 assigns 10.0.0.x IP addresses, how can they even see each other? Do I need to change the subnet or something else?

• Why can't European users access my site?

  Hello, My site has been running just fine for the past couple of years, but all of a sudden, two days ago, European users have been experiencing serious connection problems to the site. I really want to fix this for them, but what's the best way to figure out what the issue is? I have absolutely no connection problems to the site on my end, nor do Asian or other American users it seems. Using just-ping.com, some European servers come back with some packet losses. I tried doing some traceroutes from European servers to my own, but they all seemed to work just fine. I'd at least like to be able to tell users that if the problem does not lie with my server, then it at least lies somewhere out of my control. I really want to figure out what the choke point is though. Is there another way I might be able to find out why they can't seem to connect to the site? Just looking for any other ideas from people that have had a similar experience.

  Is there a way to sign up a large group of skype names at once? is there a way to enable the users to be given a skype username based on their own e-mail addresses? What I would like to do is roll out skype in an office in every county in UK with a pre defined username such as 'mycompanyname-warwickshire', 'mycompanyname-bedfordshire' and so on. Our users are only basic computer users, so I would ideally like this done with as least fuss as possible for them! Is there away to export the two and import them on the new box? I have sync'd all the files for all the sites to the new box. This box doesn't belong to a domain so its not a matter of joining to the domain. The users I'm talking about are the local computer users.

• Windows authenticated users have lost access to master (default) database

  Something very strange has occurred on our production SQL database. Users connecting via Windows authentication appear to have lost all access to the master database. By default, all logins have the default database set to master. So when you connect using SQL Server management studio, they get the error: "Cannot open user default database. Login failed error 4064". What's also worrying is that we have a group called "COMPANY - SQL Administrator" which has sysadmin rights and users in this group also get the same error. Worse, they don't appear to be system administrators anymore... If they change their default database to something else, they can connect and then work on the database, it's just the master database that is problematic. I'm not even sure by what mechanism windows authenticated users get access to the master database. Is it something hard coded in or some property that's got changed? Any ideas? Cheers, Rob.

  I have a SUSE Server to which ~300 users are connecting. About 100 of them have to be deactivated. I think it would be nice to change their shell to /bin/false either with chsh or with usermod. Do I have to type every command per line, or can I fill out a list of users which can be read from the script? I should mention that all of the 100 users have the same ending in their username. Can I work with wildcards here? e.g. usermod -s /bin/fish *ftpuser chsh -s /sbin/nologin *ftpuser

• Find users that are auto forwarding / redirecting their email in Exchange 2010 using Powershell

  We are using Live@edu, which is essentially hosted exchange server with some additional features and limitations to work around, and I'm trying to find everybody that is forwarding or redirecting emails from their accounts. I am trying to remove old accounts that have not been used, but we have instructions for users on redirecting emails, so we should expect that some users are indeed redirecting their emails, which will make their last login/logoff times not reflect whether they are indeed using auto forwarding or auto redirecting rules. How could I find a list of users with forwarding or redirection rules using Exchange 2010 Powershell Cmdlets? /EDIT: It may be sufficient for my purposes to find whether there are ANY server side rules, regardless of whether the rule forwards/redirects or does some other action.

  Active Directory up to 2008 network (our servers are a mix of 2008, 2003...) I'm looking for a quick way to query AD to find out what users are locked out, preferably from a batch or script file, to monitor for possible issues with either user accounts being attacked by an automated attack or just anomalies in the network. I've Googled and my Google-fu has failed; I found a query off Microsoft's own knowledgebase that cites a string to use on Server 2003 with the management snap-in's saved queries (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555131) but when I entered it, the query returned 400 users that a spot-check showed did NOT have a checkmark in the "Account is locked out" box under "account." In fact, I don't see anything wrong with their accounts. Is there a simple utility (wisesoft bulkadusers apparently uses this method behind the scenes, since it's results were also wrong) that will give a count of users and possibly their user object names? Script? Something?

  I've tried a few times to get postgresql running on a couple of different linux boxes, but I've always ended up binning it and going back to MySQL because I can't get my head around how to create and manage users. This time around, I've actually gotten as far as being able to log in with my own account, but I created the account with the createuser command and it has a different password to my actual user account. What I'd like to be able to do is log in as me to create databases, users and assign database permissions, but then have an account that is separate and doesn't have an account on the server to use with my web app. Does anyone have a good step-by-step guide for complete morons that goes through creating users and assigning access to various databases in postgresql?

The question becomes: How can I force these changes to take effect so that users don't have to log off and then log back in to see the language bar. This has to be done automatically when users log in.

  I'm running Mac OS 10.6 server, and have a set of 10.6 and 10.7 workstations connected to it for authentication and MCX. Users have network profiles (home folder stored on server, via AFP). When users are logged in, they can change their desktop background. So far so good. However, the next time they log in, their desktop background has been reset to "Andromeda Galaxy.jpg". Though MCX is enabled and used to control other settings, MCX is disabled for the Desktop. What is keeping the users' desktop background from being preserved? How can I fix it?

  I recently moved from Ubuntu to Windows 7 on my home PC. It has generally been a quite pleasant experience, but of course some things are not perfect. Among them is this issue: When for exampe my son is playing a game in his browser and I use fast user switching to get to my account, his sound is still playing. This is of course very annoying if I want to play some sound of my own. My options seem to be: Mute all sound (for all users) Kill his (and all other users') applications that output sound I would like this behaviour: When I log in, all sound from other users is automatically muted Is this possible? It sounds like the obvious behaviour, but some googling leads me to believe this is how Windows behaves.

  I run a firewall on a central router. Recently, several users want to use Skype. Since firewalling Skype virtually means to switch the firewall off, I consider to allow users to temporarily punch holes for their system. Since the users have no accounts on the router, I consider using Kerberos for authentication and authorization. The router is a Debian Squeeze box, with minimal configuration, i.e. no web-server, database or similar gimmicks. Does anyone know an existing solution, which could be used for that purpose?   we have a windows 2008 R2 standard server which job is to accept incoming VPN connections via PPTP. it seems to work fine, but the moment the 6th user try to connect, we get the following error: ERROR_VPN_DISCONNECT 807 The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. where do we find out how to increase the amount of simultaneously users?, I read somewhere that we can have over 100 connected clients at the same time, when I created this server, I did the following : Network & sharing - Network adapters - File - new incoming connections now I tried to choose and create users here, but we have a domain controller which seems to override this, so the domain users works after this I was able to connect atleast 5 clients... how and where do I increase the "capacity"?

I would like to look into migrating from Exchange to Google Apps. Is there a simple way to check multiple Active Directory accounts and see if there are any accounts that have not been used for a while?
