    I have a client who wishes to have an alert/confirm box pop up when a user leaves the site, then based on what they choose, they will either stay on the page or go to a new page (would love if it would work in all browsers).   • Javascript Closures, Callbacks, This and That

    I am having some trouble getting a callback function to work. Here is my code: SomeObject.prototype.refreshData = function() { var read_obj = new SomeAjaxCall("read_some_data", { }, this.readSuccess, this.readFail); } SomeObject.prototype.readSuccess = function(response) { this.data = response; this.someList = []; for (var i = 0; i < this.data.length; i++) { var systemData = this.data[i]; var system = new SomeSystem(systemData); this.someList.push(system); } this.refreshList(); } Basically SomeAjaxCall is making an ajax request for data. If it works we use the callback 'this.readSuccess' and if it fails 'this.readFail'. I have figured out that 'this' in the SomeObject.readSuccess is the global this (aka the window object) because my callbacks are being called as functions and not member methods. My understanding is that I need to use closures to keep the 'this' around, however, I have not been able to get this to work. If someone is able show me what I should be doing I would appreciate it greatly. I am still wrapping my head around how closures work and specifically how they would work in this situation. Thanks!

    Hello SO, In short, I'm dealing with Telerik's RadTreeView, and I want enable checking all the child nodes if the user checked the parent node. Simple enough! OK here's my code that handles OnClientNodeChecked event of the TreeView: function UpdateAllChildren(nodes, checked) { var i; for (i = 0; i < nodes.get_count(); i++) { var currentNode = nodes.getNode(i); currentNode.set_checked(checked); alert("now processing: " + currentNode.get_text()); if (currentNode.get_nodes().get_count() > 0) { UpdateAllChildren(currentNode.get_nodes(), checked); } } } function ClientNodeChecked(sender, eventArgs) { var node = eventArgs.get_node(); UpdateAllChildren(node.get_nodes(), node.get_checked()); } And here's the TreeView's markup: <telerik:RadTreeView ID="RadTreeView1" runat="server" CheckBoxes="True" OnClientNodeChecked="ClientNodeChecked"></telerik:RadTreeView> The tree contains quite a lot of nodes, and this is causing my targeted browser (ehm, that's IE7) to really slow down while running it. Furthermore IE7 displays an error message asking me to stop the page from running scripts as it's might make my computer not responsive (yeah, scary enough).   • HTML/Javascript Strange behavior with input field and TABBING

    I have a strange error where if a user enters in data, say first name and then tabs, the text in the field is highlighted/selected as opposed to moving to the next. So, a person may type the first name and then tab to the next input item, text is selected and then they hit a character and now the name they typed in is deleted. If I use the default [input] tags, the tab works properly. But in the code below, with keyup, that may change the tabbing behavior. How can I get my code where it won't select the text.     I want to display a few images (probably 5 max) and have a user click to select one. First thing I tried was radio buttons and putting the images inside labels. <input type="radio" name="BackgroundId" id="BackgroundId" value="1" /> <label for="BackgroundId"><img src="../../Content/images/thumb_1.jpg" /></label> Firefox will select the radio button when the user clicks the image, but IE doesn't. Is there a jquery plugin that will make the images clickable? Fancy-form looks like something I could use, but it isn't jquery and I've already got jquery in my project. Or can someone point me to a better way of selecting a single image?

    This is a simple question, but I can't work it out. The specifics aren't important, but here's the gist. I have some code like this: var lat = 0; var lon = 0; if (navigator.geolocation) { navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) { lat = position.coords.latitude; lon = position.coords.longitude; }); } What I think it's doing is: Set lat and lon to 0 If the browser has geolocation, overwrite those variables with real values However, at the end of that chunk, lat and lon are still 0. I've tried adding vars, passing lat and lon to the function etc but with no success... How do I make this work?

  • jquery/javascript: accessing contents of an iframe

    I would like to manipulate the html inside an iframe using jquery. I thought I'd be able to do this by setting the context of the jQuery function to be the document of the iframe, something like: $(function(){//document ready $('some selector', frames['nameOfMyIframe'].document).doStuff() }); However this doesn't seem to work. A bit of inspection shows me that the variables in frames['nameOfMyIframe'] are undefined unless I wait a while for the iframe to load. However, when the iframe loads the variables are unaccessible (I get permission denied type errors). Does anyone know of way to work around this?

  • regex not working "within" javascript string

    I'm trying to replace all mentions of [b] in a text string and replace it with <b>. The problem with what I'm using below this that it's replace every [b] on the page, and I only want it to change the [b]'s within the text string ("text") that I'm sending in. Taking out the 'g' for global in the regex doesn't work very well because it then doesn't replace them all... text = text.replace(new RegExp('(^|\\s|>)\\[b](\\S.*?\\S)\\[/b]($|\\s|<)', 'gim') , '$1<strong>$2</strong>$3'); any ideas? On Upload button click page flow: Page load - AddScriptToPage is executed (registers scripts with no columns) Then AddScriptToPage in btnclick event is executed (registers scripts with columns) Why is this script not getting registered even though it is executed on vb code on uploadclick event? And why does it show up after another button click and not original button click that calls this event?

  • Javascript appending onload to a popup window

    I'm trying to append an onload event to a popup window in the following manner: var explorerWindow = window.open(PARAMS...); explorerWindow.onload = function() {window.opener.unlockObj(id);} The idea is to make the button that generates the popup window readonly, making it usable again once the popup window has loaded all of its contents. However, the event doesn't seem to be firing at all. I even changed it to the following and got nothing: explorerWindow.onload = function() {alert("bloop");} Is there something terribly wrong with my syntax or am I missing something else entirely? Also, I'm using JQuery if there are any appropriate gems there that will help in this situation. I tried the following with similar results, but I'm not so sure I got the call right: $(explorerWindow).load(function() {alert("bloop");}); Any help is greatly appreciated.
