  • Convert ISO/Windows charsets to UTF-8 in Javascript

    I'm developing a firefox plugin and i fetch web pages to do some analysis for the user. The problem is when i try to get (XMLHttpRequest) pages that are not utf-8 encoded the string i see is messed up. For example hebrew pages with windows-1125 or Chinese pages with gb2312.     How should a complex single-page JS web application be structured on the client-side? Specifically I'm curious about how to cleanly structure the application in terms of its model objects, UI components, any controllers, and objects handling server persistence. MVC seemed like a fit at first. But with UI components nested at various depths (each with their own way of acting on/reacting to model data, and each generating events which they themselves may or may not handle directly), it doesn't seem like MVC can be cleanly applied. (But please correct me if that's not the case.) -- (This question resulted in two suggestions of using ajax, which is obviously needed for anything other than the most trivial one-page app.)

  • Retrieving data from a JSON sub array in javascript, where identifier starts with an integer

    I must be missing something simple here, but I'm having trouble retrieving data from a JSON array response. I can access objects with identifiers that start with letters, but not ones that start with numbers. For example, I can access data.item[0].specs.overview.details But I can't access data.item[0].specs.9a99.details If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

    Hey, The question is pretty simple, but i'm not the big AJAX/JS coder, so I have no clue if it's possible. Is there any way that I can check whether or not an alert() was executed on a remote site? Like if I inputted an alert("Welcome to this site"); through a get variable, is there any way to check if it that alert() was actually executed in the browser? And not necessarily through AJAX/JS.

    I have a form that contains this single input field, which is nothing more than a button to Print the current web page: <div align="center"> <input type="image" src="../Images/print.jpg" value="Print" onclick="printpage();" /></div> </div> After the printing, the page re-submits itself (to itself). Why does it do this and can I stop it? If I just change the type to "input", this code does not re-submit itself after printing: <div align="center"> <input type="input" src="../Images/print.jpg" value="Print" onclick="printpage();" /></div> </div> Unfortunately, our style conventions require me to use that button image rather than the standard input button.

    I'm new to DOM and I'm having trouble removing multiple images that I loaded this loads 7 images (1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc..) function loadImages() { for (var i = 1; i < 8; i++ ) { var img = document.createElement("img"); img.src = "images/"+i+".jpg"; var idName = "img"+i+""; document.getElementById(idName).appendChild(img); } } this should remove all of them, but doesn't.. I think it breaks at the removeChild line. function removeImages() { for (var i = 1; i < 8; i++ ) { var idName = "img"+i+""; var d = document.getElementById(idName); d.removeChild(document.getElementById(img)); } } I think I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, because I don't fully understand how this works...

  • After .load() Reset Textbox with User Entered Value using JavaScript and jQuery

    My function below calls a partial view after a user enters a filter-by string into the text box '#DocId'. When the user is done typing, the partial view is displayed with filtered data. Since my textbox needs to be in the partial view, when user is done entering a filter-by string and is shown the filtered data, the textbox is reset and the user entered data is lost. How can I set the value of the textbox back to the user entered string after the partial view is displayed?     I'm trying to integrate Mixpanel with GWT, but I have problems calling an event with a property and one value. My function to track an simple event (without values): public native void trackEvent(String eventName)/*-{ $wnd.mixpanel.track(eventName); }-*/; It works. But when I want to add some properties and values, it doesn't work properly: public native void trackComplexEvent(String eventName, String property, String value)/*-{ $wnd.mixpanel.track(eventName, {property:value}); }-*/; I have 2 problems with this: 1) Mixpanel says the property name is: "property"(yes, the name of the variable that I'm passing, not the value). 2) Mixpanel says the value is:undefined An example from mixpanel web is: mixpanel.track("Video Play", {"age": 13, "gender": "male"}); So, I guess the problem is I'm doing a wrong call or with wrong type of arguments.

    I want to iterate over two arrays at the same time, as the values for any given index i in array A corresponds to the value in array B. If CSS class is assigning CSS to element can't we read its value in JS ? Does this mean that if we are not assigning property directly to the element we cant get it if in case its inheriting it ?
