Hi there,
is there a way to rebuild Mac OSX Snow Leopard's Dashboard Widget 'Web Clip' on a PHP website?
Something like a crawler or scraper.
I thought about using file_get_contents to getting the page content into the page, but how do I select a section on the external page? And does this work with session/login content as well?
I'm happy for any kind of suggestions!
Cheers

Hello,
What's the difference between those PHP if expressions!?
if ($var !== false)
{
// Do something!
}
if (false !== $var)
{
// Do something!
}
Some frameworks like Zend Framework uses the latest form while the traditional is the first.
Thanks in advance
There has always been a confusion with preg_match in php.
I have a string like this:
apsd_01_03s_somedescription
apsd_02_04_somedescription
Can I use preg_match to strip off anything from 3rd underscore including the 3rd underscore.
thanks.

I need to know the referring server for a page on my site.
Is there any safe method to check where the user "came" to the page FROM?
I tried uploading this to my server, but this wont output anything at all when I write the adress to the file in the browsers adress bar:
<?php echo $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']; ?>
I need to check this in order to display a link on the page or not...
Thanks
Im writing a php script to compare the similarity of 2 strings. This works pretty good at the moment, but what I would like to do is match words when one is a synonym of the first.
Any thoughts?

Using PHP: How can I create an image to display an email address (to help reduce spam)?
Meaning, if I want to display "[email protected]" on my web page, since crawlers can easily find that text - I want to display the email address as an image that says "[email protected]".
How do I do that? I want the font to be:
color: #20c
font: 11px normal tahoma
var_dump('<a>')
// or
var_dump("<a>")
// or
var_dump("\x3Ca>")
// all result in
string(3) ""
What is going on? Only putting a space after the less-than sign works for me.

Hi.
I need the remote client name (aka computer name) to save it into a database, I was looking into $_SERVER variables but it doesn't exist. How can I get this just using another PHP's function or even javascript if it is necessary.
Hey,
Currently i try to create some of my database export work more automated and i decided to go with exporting data from MySql database to .doc file in php.
So im doing some database work and store complete html to a $str variable and then write/make new file:
$fp = fopen($file, 'w+');
fwrite($fp,$str);
fclose($fp);
The problem here is not creating .doc file, but when i download and view that .doc file it's not in UTF-8 it's in unicode.
Hello ,
I have a php application that saves the pictures on the server and also stores the picture names in the database . The issue that I have is that the picture names include the path/folder where it was saved from (e.g 1220368812/chpk2198933_large-2.jpg) so I need a str_replace pattern to remove "1220368812/" and have the picture name correct stored in the db .
Also I would appreciate if you will send me a good link that explains how exactly the str_replace patterns work or at least how the pattern that you use work .
Is it possible to have a PHP function that is both recursive and anonymous (lambda). This is my attempt to get it to work, but it doesn't pass in the function name.
$factorial = function( $n ) use ( $factorial ) {
if( $n == 1 ) return 1;
return $factorial( $n - 1 ) * $n;
};
print $factorial( 5 );
I'm also aware that this is a bad way to implement factorial, it's just an example.
Ok I have a string...
$a_string = "Product";
and I want to use this string in a call to a object like this:
$this->$a_string->some_function();
How the dickens do I dynamically call that object?
(don't think Im on php 5 mind)
