  • Creating UTF-8 files in Java from a runnable Jar

    I have a little Java project where I've set the properties of the class files to UTF-8 (I use a lot of foreign characters not found on the default CP1252). The goal is to create a text file (in Windows) containing a list of items. When running the class files from Eclipse itself (hitting Ctrl+F11) it creates the file flawlessly and opening it in another editor (I'm using Notepad++) I can see the characters as I wanted. +--------------------------------------------------+ ¦ Universidade2010 (18/18)¦ ¦ hidden: 0¦ +--------------------------------------------------¦ But, when I export the project (using Eclipse) as a runnable Jar and run it using 'javaw -jar project.jar' the new file created is a mess of question marks ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? ? I've followed some tips on how to use UTF-8 (which seems to be broken by default on Java) to try to correct this so now I'm using Writer w = new OutputStreamWriter(fos, "UTF-8"); and writing the BOM header to the file like in this question already answered but still without luck when exporting to Jar Am I missing some property or command-line command so Java knows I want to create UTF-8 files by default ?

  • Is there a command to test an SQL query without executing it? ( MySQL or ANSI SQL )

    Is there anything like this: TEST DELETE FROM user WHERE somekey = 45; That can return any errors, for example that somekey doesn't exist, or some constraint violation or anything, and reporting how many rows would be affected, but not executing the query? I know you can easily turn any query in a select query that has no write or delete effect in any row, but that can lead to errors and it's not very practical if you want to test and debug many queries.

  • Symfony 2 - Updating a table based on newly inserted record in another table

    I'm trying to create a small forum application using Symfony 2 and Doctrine 2. My ForumTopic entity has a last_post field (oneToOne mapping). Now when I persist my new post with $em->persist($post); I want to update my ForumTopic entity so its last_post field would reference this new post. I have just realised that it cannot be done with a Doctrine postPersist Listener, so I decided to use a small hack, and tried: $em->persist($post); $em->flush(); $topic->setLastPost($post); $em->persist($post); $em->flush(); but it doesn't seem to update my topics table. I also took a look at http://docs.doctrine-project.org/projects/doctrine-orm/en/2.1/reference/working-with-associations.html#transitive-persistence-cascade-operations hoping it will solve the problem by adding cascade: [ 'persist' ] to my Topic.orm.yml file, but it didn't help, either. Could anyone point me to a solution or an example class? For example, a Swing interface could have a series of tabs with a constraint that a single tab should only be displayed once per a given entity type (this could be represented as a HashSet). Or a message could give the result of the last operation carried out. Or a JPanel could be linked to a single entity instance for editing purposes.

I have attempted to alter it to set the ignore_dup_key to on with this command: ALTER INDEX PK_mypk on MyTable SET (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = ON); But I get this error: Cannot use index option ignore_dup_key to alter index 'PK_mypk' as it enforces a primary or unique constraint. How else should I set IGNORE_DUP_KEY to on?

  • ASP.Net MVC and Windows 7 404 error

    O.K. Stupid question..... I sepnt nearly a day getting an MVC site working, and then I published it. After that, the hell began. I'm using Windows 7, Visual Studio 2008 and MVC. I published it and first the Default.aspx wouldn't come up. I gave up on playing with that for a few and just did the easy thing a typed in default.aspx. I'll fix that problem later. So, I clicked on one of my navigation buttons which prior to this worked just fine in the internal development IIS, and I get a 404 error. I spent two days surfing the Microsoft support forums and every other support forum I can find. No fix. So, I tried something a little different. Just to see if I screwed up. I created a new TestMVC application. Set the output to a website on the local IIS. Compiled and after typing in the default.aspx (it was set as the startup file in the project) I then clicked on the About button on the base MVC application. And what do I get? 404. I know this is new, folks, but this is crazy. What is it about this process that would take this much effort to get it right, especially since it works on the test server.

    Hi, I have one application in which i have used 2 database connections. In my database config file i have given two arrays as below. $active_group = ‘default’; $active_record = TRUE; FIRST ARRAY $db[‘default’][‘hostname’] = ‘hostname’; .............. .......... SECOND ARRAY $db[‘another_db’][‘hostname’] = ‘hostname’; .............. .......... this is working fine. Now, I copied the entire CI folder to develop another application in which only one database connection needed. So, now, in the database config file, i deleted the second configuration array. But, the db class is taking first application’s second array i.e. “another_db” and it is giving the below error. “You have specified an invalid database connection group.” When i change the default (only one) array name to “another_db” in configuration file. It is working fine. Can’t understand from where it is taking the group name as “another_db”. My application autoloads database library. I have debugged the ci_auto_loader in Loader.php class where it calls $this-database() function with no parameters. But in function database($params, $, $) {}, if I echo $params it shows “another_db”.

Now I'm trying to save it in the following way: @email = Email.new(params[:email]) @email.user = User.new(params[:user]) @email.save This raises a db exception, because the foreign key constraint is not met (NULL is inserted into email_id).   • How to save enum settings in Visual Studio project properties?

    Hi, In the Settings tab in Visual Studio, I can see Name, Type, Scope, Value table. Define settings is intuitive if the data type is already within the Type drop-down list i.e. integer, string, long etc. But I can't find enum anywhere. How do I save enum settings then? For now, I have the following which clutter my code too much. public enum Action { LOCK = 9, FORCED_LOGOFF = 12, SHUTDOWN = 14, REBOOT, LOGOFF = FORCED_LOGOFF }; and I define Action as int in the setting. Then I have to do, switch (Properties.Settings.Default.Action) { case 9: SetAction(Action.LOCK); break; case 12: SetAction(Action.FORCED_LOGOFF); break; case 14: SetAction(Action.SHUTDOWN); break; case 15: SetAction(Action.REBOOT); break; default: SetAction(Action.LOCK); break; } Would be nice if I could simply do something like SetAction(Properties.Settings.Default.Action); to replace all above but I dont know how to save enum in setting.     Using JDO / DataNucleus / NeoDatis datastore I added @Unique to a field of a persistable object, however I am allowed to create multiple objects which violate the unique constraint. The docs for DataNucleus/NeoDatis suggest that Unique fields are supported. @PersistenceCapable public class User { @Persistent @Unique private String username; //... } If I add multiple objects to the DB with the same username there's no problem doing so. :(

  • Disable home button in android toddler app?

    I've developed and app that is a slide show of pictures which each play a sound when you tap them. It's like a picture book for ages 2-4. The problem is, since android won't let you capture a home button press and essentially disable it, when parents give the phone to their child to play with unattended (brave parent), the child can inadvertenly exit the app and then make calls or otherwise tweak the phone. There are two other apps that currently have a psuedo fix for this issue. The apps are Toddler Lock and ToddlePhone. I've tried contacting the developers of these apps for some guidance but they haven't been willing to disclose anything, which if fine, but does anyone here have any suggestions? It looks like both of those other apps are acting like a home screen replacement app. When you enable the "childproof mode" on those apps the user is prompted to chose and app for the action and the choices are "Launcher, LauncherPro, etc." plus the toddler app. You then have to make the toddler app the default and voila, the phone is "locked" and can only be "unlocked" using a key combination or touching the four corners of the screen, etc. when you "unlock" the phone. your normal home screen app default restored. You don't even have to make the toddler app the default the next time you enable the "childproof mode". I have read that these two apps have problems with Samsung phones and they can cause an an infinite crash-and-restart-loop that requires a factory reset to fix. Obviously this is not the ideal solution to the problem but it looks like the only one availiable at this point. Does anyone have any ideas on how to implement a "childproof mode"?

Trying to look at a Resident in the admin takes 10-20 seconds. If I take 'self.association' out of the __unicode__ method for ResidentialUnit, a resident page renders pretty quickly. Looking at it in the debug toolbar, without the association name in ResidentialUnit (which is a foreign key on Resident), the page runs 14 queries. With the association name put back in, it runs a far more impressive 4,872 queries. The strangest part is the extra queries all seem to be looking up the association name. They all come from the same line, the __unicode__ method for ResidentialUnit. Each one is the exact same thing, e.g., SELECT `residents_association`.`id`, `residents_association`.`jenark_entity_id`, `residents_association`.`name` FROM `residents_association` WHERE `residents_association`.`id` = 1096 ORDER BY `residents_association`.`name` ASC I assume I've managed to create a circular reference, but if it were truly circular, it would just die, not run 4000x and then return. Having trouble finding a good Google or StackOverflow result for this.

    --Bump *One desperate try to get someone's attention I have a simple database table that stores list of users who have subscribed to folders either by email OR to show up on the site (only on the web UI). In the storage table this is controlled by a number(1 - show on site 2- by email). When I am showing in UI I need to show a checkbox next to each of folders for which the user has subscribed (both email & on site). There is a separate table which stores a set of default subscriptions which would apply to each user if user has not expressed his subscription. This is basically a folder ID and a virtual group name. But, Email subscriptions do not count for applying these default groups. So if no "on site" subscription apply default group. Thats the rule. How about a strategy pattern here (Pseudo code) Interface ISubscription public ArrayList GetSubscriptionData(Pass query object) Public class SubscriptionWithDefaultGroup Implement ArrayList GetSubscriptionData(Pass query object) Public class SubscriptionWithoutDefaultGroup Implement ArrayList GetSubscriptionData(Pass query object) Public class SubscriptionOnlyDefaultGroup Implement ArrayList GetSubscriptionData(Pass query object) does this even make sense?
