• How do I do a game loop in c99?

  I'm having trouble with how to structure a game using c99. I've seen a few tutorials on making a game loop, but they are all done with c++ and classes. My main problem seems to be moving data around between the functions without creating a mess, and what stuff to put in what header files etc. Do I just do something similar to the c++ loops, and create a class-like header with a structure containing all items needed by more than one of the functions, along with the prototypes of said functions, and include the header in each function's header file? Then, in the main function, instantiate the structure and pass a pointer to it to every function in the loop? Is this ok, or is there a better way to do it, and are there any good 'c' specific tutorials available? Cheers

• Start Programming embedded devices

  I am good at C programming and also I am good at embedded devices. I have setup an embedded circuit myself using the basic arduino and by interfacing some devices with it. But the main problem is that I do not know where and how to start programming this device with the known C programming skills. The device has an on chip boot loader. By "start programming", I mean how to bring the embedded device into my programming and stuff. I know program starts from a main() and an infinite loop makes the application run. But the real question is, how to start this all and integrate the hardware with the software which I write. Kindly help with this. Thanks for the help in advance.

• Can not export JARS in lwjgl!

  I did it before but for some reason it's doing the stupid problem again. I want to export as a regular Jar file, not a folder full of files. I export it like in Oskar Veerhoak. cmd says Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Resource not found: res/F lubberFlap.png at org.newdawn.slick.util.ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream(ResourceLoa der.java:69) at com_FlubberSpace.MainFS.main(MainFS.java:118) I tested it out with my other project with the same code pretty much. This is how I load my Textures wood = TextureLoader.getTexture("PNG", ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream("res/wood.png")); of course it works fine in eclipse but not after export. I havn't tried giving the previous game its' own project, I have it in a package. Can someone record how to export properly? I want a jar file that you just double click to start it. I also want it so nobody can extract the files and see my classes and res.

• C++ game architecture

  I'm trying to make a game, but I'm not sure of the best way to set up the main loop and classes. For really small games, I could put everything in the main() loop, including event handling, collision checking, etc. However, for large games, that's seems like a highly inefficient way to get things done. The architecture I want is kind like the way the Minecraft coders did it (I quote Minecraft code because I've seen the source code when downloading MCP). They have objects entity classes EntityCow and EntityChicken and they have methods like onDeath(), onLivingUpdate(); and item classes like ItemSword have methods like onItemUse(). I've never seen these methods get called directly, but apparently, they get stored in a class called DataWatcher, which, I think "watches" all the data (as the name implies) and calls the appropriate methods in the objects. Is that how most games do it? If so, how is the DataWatcher class implemented? Any help or alternate suggestions is really appreciated.

• Are areas a good organizational feature, or just extra work?

  Do Areas in ASP.NET MVC end up being a help or just a drag in the end (because of the URL construction)? Would it be better to have subdirectories inside the main Controllers folder? or are there any other options to organizing a project? EDIT For example, this is your average link without Areas: @Html.ActionLink("Home","Index","Home") and this is your average link with Areas: @Html.ActionLink("Home","Index", new { Area = "", Controller = "Home"}) Could the following work? (Main controller with subdirectories) I'm just trying to find out if implementing Areas in a project is worthwhile, because I also read that it can be problematic when using Dependency Injection. • Ubuntu 14.04 upgrade succeeded partially - I would like to use a different mirror; how can I do that?

  When I wanted to upgrade from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 the update manager told me that there was an unresolvable problem with calculating the upgrade. In order to see more details I performed the following on the command line: apt-get update apt-get upgrade apt-get dist-upgrade apt-get install update-manager-core do-release-upgrade Now do-release-upgrade tells me that no newer version is available but the "about" box in the main menu tells me I am still on 13.10. I think the latter is right, as for instance in the "system settings" there is no way to select local menus, which is present in 14.04 (I tried with a DVD, and there it is). Maybe the problem is related to the fact that "apt-get update" cannot get two resources called "saucy/InRelease" and "saucy/main/binary-i386/Packages" from the mirror (mirror.informatik.uni-mannheim.de; 404 not found). I would like to use a different mirror; how can I do that? Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

  I went for an interview yesterday where I was asked this question: "How does having assets (images/videos) stored on a secondary domain (assets.example.com) reduce the load time of example.com?" To that I answered that by having the code "call" those assets from a secondary website it reduces the traffic that is coming to the main domain and therefore only applying bandwidth to the main domain vs having to also serve bandwidth to request assets. Is that correct? Also, If i am correct, would you say it makes sense to start new websites with this in mind or do you prefer having it done after large traffic rates are achieved?

• Displaying wait cursor in while backgroundworker is running

  During the start of my windows application, I have to make a call to a web service to retrieve some default data to load onto my application. During the load of the form, I run a backgroundworker to retrieve this data. I want to display the wait cursor until this data is retrieved. How would I do this? I've tried setting the wait cursor before calling the backgroundworker to run. When I report a progress of 100 then I set it back to the default cursor. The wait cursor comes up but when I move the mouse it disappears. Environment: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit VS2010 C# .NET 4.0 Windows Forms EDIT: I am setting the cursor the way Jay Riggs suggested. Can anyone suggest either the (probably small) java method to represent this intention or a really good resource specifically about programming dynamic stuff in RichFaces using java? Naturally I've read the javadocs, but they don't give me a concrete example of some JSF, the associated backing bean java code, and a screen shot of the resulting component. It may be asking a bit much, but I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that with these three, I'd be able to understand the idea and apply it to many other component types in this family. The RF demo doesn't include dynamic panelMenus or drop downs so I'm a bit stumped.   Hello Community, I successfully send Mails via SMTP using my Rails App and my Postfix Server. Now I need to move to an Exchange: Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.3959 that has POP3 and SMTP support enabled. I use actionmailer 1.2.5 and am not able to successfully login to the server while trying to send a mail. In case I use Mail.app sending and recieving works fine as long as I change the authentication schema to "Password". They do last a lot, so in my windows application, i wanna do something to tell users that the data are being processed. So i thought of using progress bar or status strip label, but since there is a single ui thread, the thread where the database-dealing methods are executed, ui controls are not updated, so progress bar or status strip label are useless to me. • Update iPhone UIProgressView during NSURLConnection download.

  I am using this code: NSURLConnection *oConnection=[[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:oRequest delegate:self]; to download a file, and I want to update a progress bar on a subview that I load. For that, I use this code: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { [oReceivedData appendData:data]; float n = oReceivedData.length; float d = self.iTotalSize; NSNumber *oNum = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:n/d]; self.oDPVC.oProgress.progress = [oNum floatValue]; } The subview is oDPVC, and the progress bar on it is oProgress. Setting the progress property does not update the control. From what I have read on the Web, lots of people want to do this and yet there is not a complete, reliable sample. Also, there is much contradictory advice. Some people think that you don't need a separate thread. Some say you need a background thread for the progress update. Some say no, do other things in the background and update the progress on the main thread. I've tried all the advice, and none of it works for me. One more thing, maybe this is a clue. I use this code to load the subview during applicationDidFinishLaunching: self.oDPVC = [[DownloadProgressViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DownloadProgressViewController" bundle:nil]; [window addSubview:self.oDPVC.view]; In the XIB file (which I have examined in both Interface Builder and in a text editor) the progress bar is 280 pixels wide. But when the view opens, it has somehow been adjusted to maybe half that width. Also, the background image of the view is default.png. Instead of appearing right on top of the default image, it is shoved up about 10 pixels, leaving a white bar across the bottom of the screen. Maybe that's a separate issue, maybe not.

• Using MigLayout, why is a JButton following a JTable unresponsive and how to fix this?

  Hi everyone, I am having a mind-boggling problem regarding the use of a JButton following a JTable with MigLayout. It is totally unresponsive unless I push it far enough past the JTable (then it can behave correctly). I have tried running the code with both the MigLayout JAR of the version we use for end user products and with the very most recent one; same result. As I said, if I push the button far enough past the JTable, it will work again. If I drop it on the next row, it doesn't work, I have to move it down one more row. • How do I use Sketchflow sample data for a ListBoxItem Template at design time?

  I am using Expression Blend 4 and Visual Studio 2010 to create a Sketchflow prototype. I have a Sample Data collection and a ListBox that is bound to it. This displays as I would expect both at design time and at run time. However, the ListBoxItem template it just complex enough that I wanted to pull it out into its own XAML file. Even though the items still render as expected in the main ListBox where the template is used, when I open the template itself, all of the databound controls are empty. If I add a DataContext to the template, I can see and work with the populated objects while in the template, but then that local DataContext overrides the DataContext set on the listbox. A bit of code will illustrate. Start by creating a Sketchflow project (I am using Silverlight, but it should work the same for WPF), then add a project data source called SampleDataSource. Add a collection called ListData, with a single String property called Title. But when you open DemoListBoxItemTemplate.xaml, there is no data context and therefore no data to display—which makes it more difficult to identify controls visually. How can I have sample data displayed when I am working with the template, while still allowing the larger set of sample data to be used for the ListBox itself?

• phonegap.js crashes android app

  I'm having this weird problem, where including the phonegap.js file in my project causes the app to crash on both the android emulator and my phone. I got the latest file from GitHub, so I can't see why this isn't working. This happens even if I try to build the sample project that's included in the PhoneGap download... • Java RMI timeout in callback

  We are using Java RMI for communication. An RMI client passes a processing request and an object with a callback method to an RMI server. The server invokes the callback when it is done with processing. The setup is similar to the one described in RMI Callbacks. Occasionally we are getting a "read time out" exception in the server upon invoking the callback method.
