  • How can I split Excel data from one row into multiple rows

    - by Lenny
    Good afternoon, Is there a way to split data from one row and store to separate rows? I have a large file that contains scheduling information and I'm trying to develop a list that comprises each combination of course, day, term and period per line. For example I have a file similiar to this: Crs:Sn Title Tchr TchrName Room Days Terms Periods 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 M,T,W,R,F 3,4 2,3 1034:02 English II 123 MOORE 352 M,T,W,R,F 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 M,T,W,R,F 3,4 3,4 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 M,T,W,R,F 3,4 5 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 M,T,W,R,F 1,2,3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M,T,W,R,F 1,2,3,4 2,3 Should extract to this in an excel file: Crs:Sn Title Tchr# Tchr Room Days Terms Period 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 M 3 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 T 3 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 W 3 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 R 3 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 F 3 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 M 4 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 T 4 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 W 4 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 R 4 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 F 4 2 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 M 3 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 T 3 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 W 3 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 R 3 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 F 3 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 M 4 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 T 4 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 W 4 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 R 4 3 7014:01 English I 678 JUNG 300 F 4 3 1034:02 English II 123 MOORE 352 M 3 4 1034:02 English II 123 MOORE 352 T 3 4 1034:02 English II 123 MOORE 352 W 3 4 1034:02 English II 123 MOORE 352 R 3 4 1034:02 English II 123 MOORE 352 F 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 M 3 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 T 3 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 W 3 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 R 3 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 F 3 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 M 4 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 T 4 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 W 4 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 R 4 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 F 4 3 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 M 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 T 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 W 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 R 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 F 3 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 M 4 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 T 4 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 W 4 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 R 4 4 7144:02 Algebra 238 VYSOTSKY 352 F 4 4 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 M 3 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 T 3 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 W 3 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 R 3 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 F 3 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 M 4 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 T 4 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 W 4 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 R 4 5 0180:06 Pub Speaking 23 ROSEN 228 F 4 5 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 M 1 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 M 2 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 M 3 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 T 1 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 T 2 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 T 3 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 W 1 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 W 2 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 W 3 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 R 1 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 R 2 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 R 3 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 F 1 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 F 2 3 7200:03 PE I 244 HARILAOU GYM 4 F 3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 1 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 2 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 3 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 4 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 1 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 2 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 3 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 4 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 1 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 2 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 3 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 4 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 1 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 2 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 3 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 4 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 1 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 2 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 3 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 4 2 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 1 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 2 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 M 4 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 1 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 2 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 T 4 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 1 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 2 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 W 4 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 1 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 2 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 R 4 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 1 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 2 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 3 3 2101:01 Physics/Lab 441 JONES 348 F 4 3 I'm trying to avoid going line by line separating the data. • Merge\Combine two datatables

    - by madlan
I'm trying to merge\combine two datatables. I've looked at various examples and answers but they seem to create duplicate rows or require indexes (merge on datatable etc) I can't do this via SQL as one source is from a linked Oracle server accessed via MSSQL and the other from a different MSSQL Server that does not have linked access. The data is currently very simple: Name, Email, Phone DataTable1: "John Clark", "", "01522 55231" "Alex King", "[email protected]", "01522 55266" "Marcus Jones", "[email protected]", "01522 55461" DataTable2: "John Clark", "[email protected]", "01522 55231" "Alex King", "[email protected]", "" "Marcus Jones", "[email protected]", "01522 55461" "Warren bean", "[email protected]", "01522 522311" Giving a datatable with the following: "John Clark", "[email protected]", "01522 55231" "Alex King", "[email protected]", "01522 55266" "Marcus Jones", "[email protected]", "01522 55461" "Warren bean", "[email protected]", "01522 522311" Name is the field to match records on, with the first datatable taking priority.

  • SQL Split function that handles string with delimeter appearing between text qualifiers?

    - by Ron
There are several SQL split functions, from loop driven, to using xml commands, and even using a numbers table. I haven't found one that supports text qualifiers. Using the example string below, I would like to split on ",", but not when it appears between double or single quotes. Example data: [email protected], "Sally \"Heat\" Jones" <[email protected]>, "Mark Jones" <[email protected]>, "Stone, Ron" <[email protected]> Should return a table: [email protected] "Sally \"Heat\" Jones" <[email protected]> "Mark Jones" <[email protected]> "Stone, Ron" <[email protected]> I know this is a complex query/function, but any suggestions or any guidance would be mucho appreciated.

  • Query that ignore the spaces.

    - by xRobot
What's the best way to run a query so that spaces in the fields are ignored? For example the following queries.... SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE username = "JohnBobJones" SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE username = "John Bob Jones" . would find the following entries: John Bob Jones JohnBob Jones JohnBobJones . I am using php or python but I think this doesn't matter.

  • How do I correctly organize output into columns?

    - by wrongusername
The first thing that comes to my mind is to do a bunch of \t's, but that would cause words to be misaligned if any word is longer than any other word by a few characters. For example, I would like to have something like: Name Last Name Middle initial Bob Jones M Joe ReallyLongLastName T Instead, by including only "\t"'s in my cout statement I can only manage to get Name Last Name Middle initial Bob Jones M Joe ReallyLongLastName T or Name Last Name Middle initial Bob Jones M Joe ReallyLongLastName T What else would I need to do?

  • regex search a mysql text column

    - by Ian
Okay, I thought my head hurt with regular regex, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for with regexp in mysql. I'm trying to look for situations in news articles where a Textile-formatted url has not ended with a slash so: "Catherine Zeta-Jones":/cr/catherinezeta-jones/ visited stack overflow is ok but "Catherine Zeta-Jones":/cr/catherinezeta-jones visited stack overflow is not. [just used Catherine as an example because I'm assuming an alpha search wouldn't catch the hyphen] One of these days I'll have to do that goat sacrifice so I can gain the proper knowledge of regex. Thanks everyone!

  • MySQL Query GROUP_CONCAT Over Multiple Rows

    - by PeteGO
I'm getting name and address data out of generic question / answer data to create some kind of normalised reporting database. The query I've got uses group_concat and works for individual sets of questions but not for multiple sets. I've tried to simplify what I'm doing by using just forename and surname and just 3 records, 2 for 1 person and 1 for another. In reality though there are more than 300,000 records. Example of results with qs.Id = 1. QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 1 Bob Jones Example of results with qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3). QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 3 Bob,Bob,Frank Jones,Jones,Smith What I would like to see for qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3). QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 1 Bob Jones 2 Bob Jones 3 Frank Smith So how can I make the 2nd example return a separate row for each set of name and address information? I realise the current way the data is stored is "questionable" but I cannot change the way the data is stored. I can get sets of individual answers but not sure how to combine the others. My simplified Schema that I cannot change: CREATE TABLE StaticQuestion ( Id INT NOT NULL, StaticText VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE Question ( Id INT NOT NULL, Text VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE StaticQuestionQuestionLink ( Id INT NOT NULL, StaticQuestionId INT NOT NULL, QuestionId INT NOT NULL, DateEffective DATETIME NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE Answer ( Id INT NOT NULL, Text VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE QuestionSet ( Id INT NOT NULL, DateEffective DATETIME NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE QuestionAnswerLink ( Id INT NOT NULL, QuestionSetId INT NOT NULL, QuestionId INT NOT NULL, AnswerId INT NOT NULL, StaticQuestionId INT NOT NULL); Some example data for only forename and surname. INSERT INTO StaticQuestion (Id, StaticText) VALUES (1, 'FirstName'), (2, 'LastName'); INSERT INTO Question (Id, Text) VALUES (1, 'What is your first name?'), (2, 'What is your forename?'), (3, 'What is your Surname?'); INSERT INTO StaticQuestionQuestionLink (Id, StaticQuestionId, QuestionId, DateEffective) VALUES (1, 1, 1, '2001-01-01'), (2, 1, 2, '2008-08-08'), (3, 2, 3, '2001-01-01'); INSERT INTO Answer (Id, Text) VALUES (1, 'Bob'), (2, 'Jones'), (3, 'Bob'), (4, 'Jones'), (5, 'Frank'), (6, 'Smith'); INSERT INTO QuestionSet (Id, DateEffective) VALUES (1, '2002-03-25'), (2, '2009-05-05'), (3, '2009-08-06'); INSERT INTO QuestionAnswerLink (Id, QuestionSetId, QuestionId, AnswerId, StaticQuestionId) VALUES (1, 1, 1, 1, 1), (2, 1, 3, 2, 2), (3, 2, 2, 3, 1), (4, 2, 3, 4, 2), (5, 3, 2, 5, 1), (6, 3, 3, 6, 2); Just in case SQLFiddle is down here are the 3 queries from the examples I've linked to: 1: - working query but only on 1 set of data. SELECT MAX(QuestionSetId) AS QuestionSetId, GROUP_CONCAT(Forename) AS Forename, GROUP_CONCAT(Surname) AS Surname FROM (SELECT x.QuestionSetId, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 1 THEN Text END AS Forename, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 2 THEN Text END AS Surname FROM (SELECT (SELECT link.StaticQuestionId FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink link WHERE link.Id = qa.QuestionId AND link.DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective AND link.StaticQuestionId IN (1, 2) ORDER BY link.DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1) AS StaticQuestionId, a.Text, qa.QuestionSetId FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qa ON qs.Id = qa.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qa.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE qs.Id IN (1)) x) y 2: - working query but undesired results on multiple sets of data. SELECT MAX(QuestionSetId) AS QuestionSetId, GROUP_CONCAT(Forename) AS Forename, GROUP_CONCAT(Surname) AS Surname FROM (SELECT x.QuestionSetId, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 1 THEN Text END AS Forename, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 2 THEN Text END AS Surname FROM (SELECT (SELECT link.StaticQuestionId FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink link WHERE link.Id = qa.QuestionId AND link.DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective AND link.StaticQuestionId IN (1, 2) ORDER BY link.DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1) AS StaticQuestionId, a.Text, qa.QuestionSetId FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qa ON qs.Id = qa.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qa.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3)) x) y 3: - working query on multiple sets of data only on 1 field (answer) though. SELECT qs.Id AS QuestionSet, a.Text AS Answer FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qalink ON qs.Id = qalink.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN StaticQuestionQuestionLink sqqlink ON qalink.QuestionId = sqqlink.QuestionId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qalink.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE sqqlink.StaticQuestionId = 1 /* FirstName */ AND sqqlink.DateEffective = (SELECT DateEffective FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink WHERE StaticQuestionId = 1 AND DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective ORDER BY DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1)

  • RTS Movement + Navigation + Destination

    - by Oliver Jones
I'm looking into building my own simple RTS game, and I'm trying to get my head around the movement of single, and multi selected units. (Developing in Unity) After much research, I now know that its a bigger task than I thought. So I need to break it down. I already have an A* navigation system with static obstacles taken into account. I don't want to worry about dynamic local avoidance right now. So I guess my first break down question would be: How would I go about moving mutli units to the same location. Right now - my units move to the location, but because they're all told to go to the same location, they start to 'fight' over one another to get there. I think theres two paths to go down: 1) Give each individual unit a separate destination point that is close to the 'master' destination point - and get the units to move to that. 2) Group my selected units in a flock formation, and move that entire flock group towards the destination point. Question about each path: 1a) How can I go about finding a suitable destination point that is close to the master destination? What happens if there isn't a suitable destination point? 1b) Would this be more CPU heavy? As it has to compute a path for each unit? (40 unit count). 2a) Is this a good idea? Not giving the units themselves a destination, but instead the flock (which holds the units within). The units within the flock could then maintain a formation (local avoidance) - though, again local avoidance is not an issue at this current time. 2b) Not sure what results I would get if I have a flock of 5 units, or a flock of 40 units, as the radius would be greater - which might mess up my A* navigation system. In other words: A flock of 2 units will be able to move down an alleyway, but a flock of 40 wont. But my nav system won't take that into account. I would appreciate any feedback. Kind regards, Ollie Jones

    - by Jaspa Jones
Goal Basically I would like SVN users to be able to browse through a directory containing a lot of subfolders without allowing them to read its subfolders. [/] * = r [/Projects] * = # Allow viewing contents, but not reading. At least to be able to see Project1. [/Projects/Project1] my_group = rw Problem The problem is that there are a lot of projects. I could add every other project and make them disappear for the user, but that would be a lot of work to maintain. It would look like this: [/] * = r [/Projects] * = r [/Projects/Project1] my_group = rw [/Projects/Project2] * = [/Projects/Project3] * = [/Projects/Project4] * = [/Projects/Project5] * = It would be nice if I could use this: [/Projects/*] * = Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Jaspa Jones

  • Aggregating Excel cell contents that match a label [migrated]

    - by Josh
I'm sure this isn't a terribly difficult thing, but it's not the type of question that easily lends itself to internet searches. I've been assigned a project for work involving a complex spreadsheet. I've done the usual =SUM and other basic Excel formulas, and I've got enough coding background that I'm able to at least fudge my way through VBA, but I'm not certain how to proceed with one part of the task. Simple version: On Sheet 1 I have a list of people (one on each row, person's name in column A), on sheet 2 I have a list of groups (one on each row, group name in column A). Each name in Sheet 1 has its own row, and I have a "Data Validation" dropdown menu where you choose the group each person belongs to. That dropdown is sourced from Sheet 2, where each group has a row. So essentially the data validation source for Sheet 1's "Group" column is just "=Sheet2!$a1:a100" or whatever. The problem is this: I want each group row in Sheet 2 to have a formula which results in a list of all the users which have been assigned to that group on Sheet 1. What I mean is something the equivalent of "select * from PeopleTab where GROUP = ThisGroup". The resulting cell would just stick the names together like "Bob Smith, Joe Jones, Sally Sanderson" I've been Googling for hours but I can't think of a way to phrase my search query to get the results I want. Here's an example of desired result (Dash-delimited. Can't find a way to make it look nice, table tags don't seem to work here): (Sheet 1) Bob Smith - Group 1 (selected from dropdown) Joe Jones - Group 2 (selected from dropdown) Sally Sanderson - Group 1 (selected from dropdown) (Sheet 2) Group 1 - Bob Smith, Sally Sanderson (result of formula) Group 2 - Joe Jones (result of formula) What formula (or even what function) do I use on that second column of sheet 2 to make a flat list out of the members of that group?

  • Is It Possible To Recover A Partial LVM Logical Volume?

    - by Terry Wang
Background It is an Ubuntu 12.04 VirtualBox VM with 5 virtual HDDs (VDI), NOTE this is just a test VM, so not well planned ahead: ubuntu.vdi for / (/dev/mapper/ubuntu-root AKA /dev/ubuntu/root) and /home (/dev/mapper/ubuntu-home) weblogic.vdi - /dev/sdb (mounted on /bea for weblogic and other stuff) btrfs1.vdi - /dev/sdc (part of btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 configuration) btrfs2.vdi - /dev/sdd (part of btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 configuration) more.vdi - /dev/sde (added this virtual HDD because / ran out of inodes and it wasn't easy to figure out what to delete so as to free up inodes, so I just added the new virtual HDD, created PV, added it to existing volume group ubuntu, grew the root logical volume to work around the inode issue -_-) What happened? Last Friday, before finishing up I wanted to free up some disk space on that box, for some reason I thought the more.vdi was useless and tried to detach it from the VM, I then clicked delete (should have clicked keep files damn!) by mistake when detaching. Unfortunately I didn't have backup for it. All too late. What I have tried Tried to undelete (use testdisk and photorec) the vdi files but it takes too long and recovered heaps of .vdi files that I didn't want (huge, filled the disk, damn!). I finally gave up. Fortunately most of data is on separate ext4 partition and btrfs volumes. Out of curiosity, I still tried to mount the logical volumes and see if it is possible to at least recover the /var and /etc I tried to use system rescue cd to boot and activate the volume groups, I got: Couldn't find device with uuid xxxx. Refusing activation of the partial LV root. Use --partial to override. 1 logical volume(s) in volume group "ubuntu" now active. I was able to mount home LV but not root LV. I am wondering if it is possible to access the root LV any more. Under the bonnet, data (on LV root - /) was striped to more.vdi (PV), I know it's almost impossible to to recover. But I am still curious about how system administrator/DevOps guys deal with this sort of situation;-) Thanks in advance.

  • Random Monday Thoughs

    - by Terry Goldman
On this Monday morning my thoughts center on why is it so hard to embrace governance, any form of governance for that matter, be it software development governance, SOA governance, data governance, IT governance, so on a so fourth? Most customers that I meet tend to think that they don't need don't need governance as all is good within the enterprise. The question I generally pose to colleges and customers, is you have to think of governance as an insurance policy. Take of instance, if you just bought a new car, perhaps your "dream" car, would you drive it on the open streets without having the car insured? Probably not.Governance is what insurance is to new cars, be it to SOA, IT transformations and software development. Governance is a insurance policy against risk of failure. Now once I put it in this context, ask yourself, does governance have value to your organization? Most people now get it. Once the seed of governance is planted at the executive level of an organization, it becomes a exercise in planting an that idea into key personnel within the organization. Then the justification for governance grows and grows across the enterprise.Thats my food for though in this Monday morning.FYI, stay tuned for an upcoming multi-part article on using Oracle Enterprise Repository to build a Enterprise Continuum as described in TOGAF v9.0.

  • Wifi won't enter working net after hard reboot

    - by Terry Smith
I rebooted the hard way after my system jammed again because FF eats all the ram. (that's a different problem) I've always gotten away with it, but not this time. The system came up ok BUT it absolutely refuses to log onto the local house wifi net. I know the net is ok as the Windows box I'm writing this on is on it right now. I deleted the connection and rentered the password but it will not go on. /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state says everything is turned on. I know this is my fault but I'd really like to get back on the net. The machine is a Toshiba Satellite. Any suggestions?

  • Eee PC brighness contol with 12.04 release

    - by Terry
is there a solution to the low screen brightness issue with the Eee PC and release 12.04? When I use the brightness control, the screen goes through three adjustment cycles of dark to semi bright, but never gets to bright. As you index the control up, brightness increases, then suddenly cuts back to dark. use the brightness button to further increase the brightness and the same cycle happens. As though there are three distinct brightness events, each one setting back to low level. Under no circumstances other than initial boot up can you get to a bright screen. I just finished installing 12.04 on two Acer (Gateway netbooks) with no brightness issue. Just on the Eee PC
