Although I understand it on simple terms, I want to know the reason and a summary of real world usage patterns of this protocol. So, why exactly is metaobject and more importantly metaobject protocol is such a good idea. I want to know the problem which led to its evolution and also, its high power usage. Opinions as well as general overview/description/alternate explanations are also welcome.

  • how to add water effect to an image

    - by brainydexter
This is what I am trying to achieve: A given image would occupy say 3/4th height of the screen. The remaining 1/4th area would be a reflection of it with some waves (water effect) on it. I'm not sure how to do this. But here's my approach: render the given texture to another texture called mirror texture (maybe FBOs can help me?) invert mirror texture (scale it by -1 along Y) render mirror texture at height = 3/4 of the screen add some sense of noise to it OR using pixel shader and time, put pixel.z = sin(time) to make it wavy (Tech: C++/OpenGL/glsl) Is my approach correct ? Is there a better way to do this ? Also, can someone please recommend me if using FrameBuffer Objects would be the right thing here ? Thanks

  • No internet access when I'm connect to my company's VPN

    - by Iago
I googled my problem and I've read some questions in Ask Ubuntu, but I didn't solve my problem. I connect to a PPTP VPN server and it works well, but when I'm connected to that VPN I don't have Internet access but private network access. If I check "Use this connection only for resources on its network", I have Internet access, but this way I haven't access to my company's private network. What's the problem? Help, please.

  • Undocumented Secrets of MATLAB-Java Programming, un livre de Yair Altman, critique par Jérôme Briot

Undocumented Secrets of MATLAB-Java Programming de Yair Altman D'après l'éditeur : Citation: For a variety of reasons, the MATLAB®-Java interface was never fully documented. This is really quite unfortunate: Java is one of the most widely used programming languages, having many times the number of programmers and programming resources as MATLAB. Also unfortunate is the popular claim that while MATLAB is a fine programming platform for prototyping...

  • #altnetseattle in Closing

    - by GeekAgilistMercenary
So again, the #altnetseattle Conference easily was one of the most useful events of the year for me.  The amount of ideas, thoughts, and conversations that happen in just those two days often outweigh all the presentations I see at other conferences throughout the year.  The reason is simple, they are directed, to the point, and done with the ideal of open spaces.  This makes each session exhaustive on a particular topics.  Throw together some of the smartest people in the field and you have a bang up awesome energy and conversation. I got to talk about cloud computer, a little bit, and REST Architecture as sessions I kicked off myself.  Those were a blast.  I also got to meet a ton of other super talented like minded developers and engineers that are out there kicking the tires of .NET (and other languages/tech stacks like Ruby on Rails). Overall the conference rocked and I will definitely be coming back!  With that, I am headed home to Portland.

  • The SQL Server Community

    - by AllenMWhite
In case you weren't aware of it, I absolutely love the SQL Server community. The people I've gotten to know have amazing knowledge, and they love sharing that knowledge with anyone who wants to learn. How can you not love that? It's inspiring and humbling all at the same time. There are a number of venues where the SQL Server community comes together. I'm including Twitter , the PASS Summit , the various SQL Saturday events, SQLBits , Tech Ed , and the local user groups. Each of us takes part in...(read more)

  • Beggining OpenGL vs beggining DirectX and some question about the philosophical difference between them

    - by jokoon
I'm begginning with Direct X at school, and my teacher said it was harder to begin with than OpenGL, but I read several things that in fact, Direct X was more advanced than OpenGL in terms of recent graphic cards features. Since I'm far from wanting to do top notch effects, which can already be implemented with existing engines and/or shaders, I wanted to know your opinion: Can OpenGL be considered like a more basic, KISS, hardware agnostic, graphic library to just do 3D with acceleration, and consider DirectX like a top notch, game-oriented graphic API that will always support the next-gen 3D chips ? Citation from wikipedia on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id_Tech_5 : John Carmack mentioned in his keynote at QuakeCon 2007 that the id Tech 5 engine will not be using the DirectX 10 API. I don't want to seem like I'm minding open source because Carmack does and because he is famous, it's just that android and iPhone are out there, and Direct X doesn't seems to me to be the necessary API to know, since Windows supports OpenGL, and since the 360 is just a console among other consoles.

  • Keyword Research - Four Key Criteria For Selecting "Money" Keywords

Keyword research is absolutely essential to the success of any website because keywords are what people use to find websites and are what search engines use as the basis for their rankings. • This not having job, is driving me nuts!

    - by Ratman21
I had two jobs lined up (temporary but, hey they pay), one of which was in IT. A very low paying IT job for only 30 hours a week and only 3 weeks. At a large high tech company and a government (a not in my field job) temporary, paying a bit more, for little longer and for up to 40 hours a week. I was going to happily work my little self raged for the next 3 weeks. Guess what, the IT job fell thru and I now feel so let down. This I felt was my chance to get back in to IT, even if it was only for few weeks and maybe get note-us as hard working IT guy. I still have the other job but, let me add that there is no chance that it will turn in to something longer (I have been told that point blank). As I said this is nuts.

  • PokeMMO. How they do it?

    - by RufioLJ
Well PokeMMO is a JAVA game project which basically is the original FireRed title for the GBA made online. They know this type of projects don't last long because of the copyrighted material used, but they somehow made their client extract resources from ROMS. So they don't offer any copyrighted material on their download. I wonder what technique they could be using for this? All I know is that they use LWJGL.
