  • mvc2 host on iis6 : The incoming request does not match any route.

    - by Sefer KILIÇ
    I have to host my project on iis6, I can not change iis setting on server. So, I modified global.asax like below. But when I browse project I got error like : The incoming request does not match any route. have any idea? thanks public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute("Default", // Route name "{controller}.aspx/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ) ); routes.MapRoute("Detail", // Route name "{controller}.aspx/{action}/{id}/{sid}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "", sid="" } // Parameter defaults ) ); routes.MapRoute("ForGoogle", // Route name "{controller}.aspx/{action}/{friendlyUrl}/{id}/{partialName}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", friendlyUrl = "", id = "", partialName =""} // Parameter defaults ) ); routes.MapRoute( "PostFeed", "Feed/{type}", new { controller = "Product", action = "PostFeed", type = "rss" } ); }

  • Creating an Ajax.ActionLink that avoids all caching issues

    - by Richard Ev
    I am using an Ajax.ActionLink to display a partial view that shows a settings dialog (the modality of which is arranged using jQuery UI dialog). The issue I am running into is around browser caching. It is important that the user is never shown a cached settings dialog. In an attempt to achieve this I have written the following extension method that has the same method signature as the ActionLink method overload that I am using. /// <summary> /// Defines an AJAX ActionLink that effectively bypasses browser caching issues /// by adding an additional route value that contains a unique (actually DateTime.Now.Ticks) value. /// </summary> public static MvcHtmlString NonCachingActionLink(this AjaxHelper helper, string linkText, string actionName, string controllerName, System.Web.Routing.RouteValueDictionary routeValues, AjaxOptions ajaxOptions) { routeValues.Add("rnd", DateTime.Now.Ticks); return helper.ActionLink(linkText, actionName, controllerName, routeValues, ajaxOptions); } This works well between browser sessions (as the rnd route value gets re-calculated on page load), but not if the user is on the page, makes settings changes, saves them (which is done with another ajax call) and then re-displays the settings dialog. My next step is to look into creating my own ActionLink equivalent that re-calculates a random query string component as part of the onclick JavaScript event handler. Thoughts please.

  • Working with partial views

    - by MrW
    Hi. I'm trying to create a page that contains a grid and searching. The issue is that I want to have a partial view for the grid and one for the searching. If doing a search, this should render the grid partial view with the new information. At the moment I need information, such as what column I'm sorting by and so on, from the grid (currently stored in viewdata), in order to do the search as I want to keep those settings. This information is only available in the grid partial though. What's the best approach of this to make it neat and nice in the code, but not a mess to work with? Where can I store information that I need in the other partial view? Partial View 1; <table> <%= Html.CreateGrid(Model, "Grid", "Grid", (int)ViewData["SortColumn"], (bool)ViewData["SortedASC"])%> </table> Partial View 2; <div class="searchControl"> <input type="text" class="SearchBox" href="<%= Url.Action("Grid", "Grid", new {page = 1, columnToSortBy=/* would like to access viewdata from partial view 1 here. */, sortASC = /* would like to access viewdata from partial view 1 here. */ } ) %>" /> <input type="submit" value="Search" class="SearchButton" /> </div> I know I might take the completely wrong approach on this, so feel free to point me in the right one! Thanks!

  • BindAttribute, Exclude nested properties for complex types

    - by David Board
    I have a 'Stream' model: public class Stream { public int ID { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(50, ErrorMessage = "Stream name cannot be longer than 50 characters.")] public string Name { get; set; } [Required] [DataType(DataType.Url)] public string URL { get; set; } [Required] [Display(Name="Service")] public int ServiceID { get; set; } public virtual Service Service { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Event> Events { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Monitor> Monitors { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<AlertRule> AlertRules { get; set; } } For the 'create' view for this model, I have made a view model to pass some additional information to the view: public class StreamCreateVM { public Stream Stream { get; set; } public SelectList ServicesList { get; set; } public int SelectedService { get; set; } } Here is my create post action: [HttpPost] [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult Create([Bind(Include="Stream, Stream.Name, Stream.ServiceID, SelectedService")] StreamCreateVM viewModel) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { db.Streams.Add(viewModel.Stream); db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index", "Service", new { id = viewModel.Stream.ServiceID }); } return View(viewModel); } Now, this all works, apart from the [Bind(Include="Stream, Stream.Name, Stream.ServiceID, SelectedService")] bit. I can't seem to Include or Exclude properties within a nested object.

  • Custom IIdentity and passing data from an attribute to a controller

    - by DM
    Here's my scenario: I've successfully created a custom IIdentity that I pass to a GenericPrincipal. When I access that IIdentity in my controller I have to cast the IIdentity in order to use the custom properties. example: public ActionResult Test() { MyCustomIdentity identity = (MyCustomIdentity)User.Identity; int userID = identity.UserID; ...etc... } Since I need to do this casting for nearly every action I would like to wrap this functionality in an ActionFilterAttribute. I can't do it in the controller's constructor because the context isn't initialized yet. My thought would be to have the ActionFilterAttribute populate a private property on the controller that I can use in each action method. example: public class TestController : Controller { private MyCustomIdentity identity; [CastCustomIdentity] public ActionResult() { int userID = identity.UserID; ...etc... } } Question: Is this possible and how? Is there a better solution? I've racked my brain trying to figure out how to pass public properties that are populated in an attribute to the controller and I can't get it.

  • Routing with command controller and sub controllers without using areas

    - by user205258
    How can I create a routing structure for a project management application where there are discrete controllers for all the relevant pieces such as TaskController, DocumentController etc and an Over arching controller. I would essentially like a structure like: http://server/Project/123/Task http://server/Project/123/Document I am using mvc1 so I have no access to areas etc. The project section will have a separate master page for project controllers such as task, document etc with a dfferent menu navigaton. I have tried three routes together n Global.asax like: routes.MapRoute( "Task", "Project/{id}/Task/{action}", new { controller = "Task", action = "Index", id = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "Message", "Project/{id}/Message/{action}", new { controller = "Message", action = "Index", id = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "Document", "Project/{id}/Document/{action}", new { controller = "Document", action = "Index", id = "" } ); What am I doing wrong here

  • Why is String Templating Better Than String Concatenation from an Engineering Perspective?

    - by stephen
    I once read (I think it was in "Programming Pearls") that one should use templates instead of building the string through the use of concatenation. For example, consider the template below (using C# razor library) <in a properties file> Browser Capabilities Type = @Model.Type Name = @Model.Browser Version = @Model.Version Supports Frames = @Model.Frames Supports Tables = @Model.Tables Supports Cookies = @Model.Cookies Supports VBScript = @Model.VBScript Supports Java Applets = @Model.JavaApplets Supports ActiveX Controls = @Model.ActiveXControls and later, in a separate code file private void Button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { BrowserInfoTemplate = Properties.Resources.browserInfoTemplate; // see above string browserInfo = RazorEngine.Razor.Parse(BrowserInfoTemplate, browser); ... } From a software engineering perspective, how is this better than an equivalent string concatentation, like below: private void Button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { System.Web.HttpBrowserCapabilities browser = Request.Browser; string s = "Browser Capabilities\n" + "Type = " + browser.Type + "\n" + "Name = " + browser.Browser + "\n" + "Version = " + browser.Version + "\n" + "Supports Frames = " + browser.Frames + "\n" + "Supports Tables = " + browser.Tables + "\n" + "Supports Cookies = " + browser.Cookies + "\n" + "Supports VBScript = " + browser.VBScript + "\n" + "Supports JavaScript = " + browser.EcmaScriptVersion.ToString() + "\n" + "Supports Java Applets = " + browser.JavaApplets + "\n" + "Supports ActiveX Controls = " + browser.ActiveXControls + "\n" ... }

  • Why is the HttpContext.Cache count always zero?

    - by jjr2527
    I set up a few pages with OutputCache profiles and confirmed that they are being cached by using multiple browsers and requests to retrieve the page with a timestamp which matched across all requests. When I try to enumerate the HttpContect.Cache it is always empty. Any ideas what is going on here or where I should be going for this information instead?

  • How to make MVC 4 Razor Html.Raw work for assignment in HTML within script tags

    - by Yarune
    For a project I'm using jqote for templating in JavaScript and HTML generated by MVC 4 with Razor. Please have a look at the following code in HTML and Razor: <script id="testTemplate" type="text/html"> <p>Some html</p> @{string id = "<%=this.Id%>";} <!-- 1 --> @if(true) { @Html.Raw(@"<select id="""+id+@"""></select>") } <!-- 2 --> @if(true) { <select id="@Html.Raw(id)"></select> } <!-- 3 --> @Html.Raw(@"<select id="""+id+@"""></select>") <!-- 4 --> <select id="@Html.Raw(id)"></select> <!-- 5 --> <select id="<%=this.Id%>"></select> </script> The output is this: <script id="testTemplate" type="text/html"> <!-- 1 --> <select id="<%=this.Id%>"></select> <!--Good!--> <!-- 2 --> <select id="&lt;%=this.Id%&gt;"></select> <!--BAD!--> <!-- 3 --> <select id="<%=this.Id%>"></select> <!--Good!--> <!-- 4 --> <select id="<%=this.Id%>"></select> <!--Good!--> <!-- 5 --> <select id="<%=this.Id%>"></select> <!--Good!--> </script> Now, the problem is with the second select under <!-- 2 -->. One would expect the Html.Raw to kick in here but somehow it doesn't. Or Razor wants to HtmlEncode what's in there. The question is: Does anyone have an idea why? Is this a bug or by design? Without the script tags it works. But we need the script tags cause we need to template in JavaScript. Hardcoded it works, but we need to use a variable because this will not always be a template. Without the @if it works, but it's there, we need it. Workarounds These lines give similar good outputs: @if(true) { <select id= "@Html.Raw(id)"></select> } @if(true) { <select id ="@Html.Raw(id)"></select> } @if(true) { <select id @Html.Raw("=")"@Html.Raw(id)"></select> } We're planning to do this: <script id="testTemplate" type="text/html"> @{string id = @"id=""<%=this.Id%>""";} @if(true) { <select @Html.Raw(id)></select> } </script> ...to keep as to markup intact as much as possible.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 / Localization / Dynamic Default Value?

    - by cyberblast
    Hello In an ASP.NET MVC 2 application, i'm having a route like this: routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{lang}/{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new // Parameter defaults { controller = "Home", action = "Index", lang = "de", id = UrlParameter.Optional }, new { lang = new AllowedValuesRouteConstraint(new string[] { "de", "en", "fr", "it" }, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) } Now, basically I would like to set the thread's culture according the language passed in. But there is one exception: If the user requests the page for the first time, like calling "http://www.mysite.com" I want to set the initial language if possible to the one "preferred by the browser". How can I distinguish in an early procesing stage (like global.asax), if the default parameter has been set because of the default value or mentioned explicit through the URL? (I would prefer a solution where the request URL is not getting parsed). Is there a way to dynamically provide a default-value for a paramter? Something like a hook? Or where can I override the default value (good application event?). This is the code i'm actually experimenting with: protected void Application_AcquireRequestState(object sender, EventArgs e) { string activeLanguage; string[] validLanguages; string defaultLanguage; string browsersPreferredLanguage; try { HttpContextBase contextBase = new HttpContextWrapper(Context); RouteData activeRoute = RouteTable.Routes.GetRouteData(new HttpContextWrapper(Context)); if (activeRoute == null) { return; } activeLanguage = activeRoute.GetRequiredString("lang"); Route route = (Route)activeRoute.Route; validLanguages = ((AllowedValuesRouteConstraint)route.Constraints["lang"]).AllowedValues; defaultLanguage = route.Defaults["lang"].ToString(); browsersPreferredLanguage = GetBrowsersPreferredLanguage(); //TODO: Better way than parsing the url bool defaultInitialized = contextBase.Request.Url.ToString().IndexOf(string.Format("/{0}/", defaultLanguage), StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) > -1; string languageToActivate = defaultLanguage; if (!defaultInitialized) { if (validLanguages.Contains(browsersPreferredLanguage, StringComparer.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) { languageToActivate = browsersPreferredLanguage; } } //TODO: Where and how to overwrtie the default value that it gets passed to the controller? contextBase.RewritePath(contextBase.Request.Path.Replace("/de/", "/en/")); SetLanguage(languageToActivate); } catch (Exception ex) { //TODO: Log Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } protected string GetBrowsersPreferredLanguage() { string acceptedLang = string.Empty; if (HttpContext.Current.Request.UserLanguages != null && HttpContext.Current.Request.UserLanguages.Length > 0) { acceptedLang = HttpContext.Current.Request.UserLanguages[0].Substring(0, 2); } return acceptedLang; } protected void SetLanguage(string languageToActivate) { CultureInfo cultureInfo = new CultureInfo(languageToActivate); if (!Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.TwoLetterISOLanguageName.Equals(languageToActivate, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = cultureInfo; } if (!Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.TwoLetterISOLanguageName.Equals(languageToActivate, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture(cultureInfo.Name); } } The RouteConstraint to reproduce the sample: public class AllowedValuesRouteConstraint : IRouteConstraint { private string[] _allowedValues; private StringComparison _stringComparism; public string[] AllowedValues { get { return _allowedValues; } } public AllowedValuesRouteConstraint(string[] allowedValues, StringComparison stringComparism) { _allowedValues = allowedValues; _stringComparism = stringComparism; } public AllowedValuesRouteConstraint(string[] allowedValues) { _allowedValues = allowedValues; _stringComparism = StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase; } public bool Match(HttpContextBase httpContext, Route route, string parameterName, RouteValueDictionary values, RouteDirection routeDirection) { if (_allowedValues != null) { return _allowedValues.Any(a => a.Equals(values[parameterName].ToString(), _stringComparism)); } else { return false; } } } Can someone help me out with that problem? Thanks, Martin

  • Null date reference when passing json to MVC Controller

    - by Jake
    I am building an event system that posts data to a google calendar. I am using jquery 1.4.2, fullcalendar 1.4.5, and asp.net MVC 2. I am using a jquery ui modal dialog for the entry system. Jquery ui datepicker for the from and to fields. Select boxes for the time fields. I have tried both string and DateTime formats in the GCalEvent Class for startDate, startTime, endDate and endTime. I am receiving a null reference with the dates passed to the controllers Action method. var gcalevent = { 'eventID': $('#eventID').val(), 'eventURL': $('#eventURL').val(), 'date': { 'startDate': $("#from").val(), 'startTime': $('#eventStartHour option:selected').val() + ":" + $('#eventStartMin option:selected').val() + $('#eventStartAMPM option:selected').val(), 'endDate': $('#to').val(), 'endTime': $('#eventEndHour option:selected').val() + ":" + $('#eventEndMin option:selected').val() + $('#eventEndAMPM option:selected').val() }, 'allDay': $('#chkAllDay').attr('checked'), 'where': $('#eventWhere').val(), 'eventTitle': $('#eventTitle').val(), 'eventDescription': $('#eventDescription').val() }; $.post("/home/AddRepeatingEvent", gcalevent, addEventCallback); public void AddNonRepeatingEvent(Models.GCalEvent gcalevent) { IGCalRepository _gcalrepo; GCalRepository gcalrepo = new GCalRepository(); _gcalrepo = gcalrepo; //_gcalrepo.AddEvent(gcalevent); GetGoogleEventURL(gcalevent.eventID.ToString()); } public enum Days { Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat } public enum DefaultCalendarView { Month, Day, Week } public enum OrderType { First, Second, Third, Fourth, Last } public abstract class RepeatBaseType { } public class GCalEvent { public string title { get; set; } public string description { get; set; } public string where { get; set; } public bool repeated { get; set; } public bool allDay { get; set; } public DefaultCalendarView defaultCalendarView { get; set; } public GCalEventDate date { get; set; } public RepeatBaseType repeatType { get; set; } public string eventID { get; set; } public string eventURL { get; set; } } public class GCalEventDate { public string startDate { get; set; } public string startTime { get; set; } public string endDate {get;set;} public string endTime {get;set;} } internal class Duration { int Days { get; set; } int Hours { get; set; } int Minutes { get; set; } } public class RepeatedDaily: RepeatBaseType { public int Days { get; set; } } public class RepeatedWeekly : RepeatBaseType { public int Weeks { get; set; } public Days[] days { get; set; } } public class RepeatedMonthly : RepeatBaseType { public int Months { get; set; } public RepeatedMonthlyType repeatedMonthlyType { get; set; } } public class RepeatedYearly : RepeatBaseType { public int Years {get;set;} } public abstract class RepeatedMonthlyType { } public class RepeatedMonthlyDayOfWeek : RepeatedMonthlyType { public Days[] DayOfWeek { get; set; } public OrderType orderType { get; set; } } public class RepeatedMonthlyDayOfMonth : RepeatedMonthlyType { public DateTime DayOfMonth { get; set; } } This is the first time i am attempting to use abastract classes. • Why user control with code behind file doesn't want to compile under MVC2?

    - by kyrisu
    I have user control in my MVC2 app placed in the Content folder (it's not supposed to be a view, just reusable part of the app). UserControl1.ascx looks like: <@ Control AutoEventWireup="true" Language="C#" CodeFile="~/Content/UserControl1.ascx.cs" Inherits="MVCDrill.Content.UserControl1" %> <div runat="server" id="mydiv"> <asp:LinkButton id="lb_text" runat="server"></asp:LinkButton> </div> UserControl1.ascx.cs looks like: using System; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; namespace MVCDrill.Content { public class UserControl1 : UserControl { public string Text { get { return this.lb_text.Text; } set { this.lb_text.Text = value; } } } } I'm pretty sure this kind of stuff compiled under webforms but I'm getting compilation error: 'MVCDrill.Content.UserControl1' does not contain a definition for 'lb_text' and no extension method 'lb_text' accepting a first argument of type 'MVCDrill.Content.UserControl1' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Am I missing something? How to change it (what is the alternative) in MVC2 ? p.s. Intellisense sees lb_text with no problem. I've tried with different controls with the same outcome.

QUESTION: How an I develop this now such that it would be easy to migrate to a model where the data layer is abstracted via a HTTP web-service or REST interface? For example would just use of a standard C# interface with a Factory to obtain a concrete implementation of the interface where this uses ADO.net be the best? thanks

  • Is Lucern.net good choice for website search of 1M item product database? (giving up on SQL Server

    - by Pete Alvin
    We currently have in production SQL Server 2005 and we use it's full text search for a eCommerce site search of a million product database. I've optimized it as much as possible (I think) and we're still seeing search times of five seconds. (We don't need site scrawl or PDF (etc.) document indexing features... JUST "Google" speed for site search.) I was going to buy dtSearch but now I realize I can just use Lucerne.net and save the $2,500 for two server license. I read on a post that Lucerne.Net is not good for website searches. Has anyone else used Lucerne.Net from ASP.Net? Does it take a lot of memory? Any problems? Any comments?
