Is it possible to set path of database for delayed job in rails?

Now, I am developing with mailing system with delayed_jobs gem. When I ran on developing environment, it operated well. But, after deploying application on server, it is not acted. This is my database.yml development: adapter: sqlite3 database: db/development.sqlite3 pool: 5 timeout: 5000 test: adapter: sqlite3 database: db/test.sqlite3 pool: 5 timeout: 5000 production: adapter: sqlite3 database: /var/www/service/shared/db/production.sqlite3 pool: 5 timeout: 5000 I checked queue(in /var/www/...) and it act well. Also, I started delayed_jobs(rake jobs:work). So, I think that problem is delayed_job crawl db/development.sqlite3 How can solve this problem?

Recently I attended couple of interviews. Out of all kernel questions which were asked, thr is one specific question which I couldnt find convincing answer of. How will you use different synchronization techniques while sharing data between user space process and interrupt context function? My convincing answer was: In interrupt context code: 1. do *spin_lock_irqsave* 2. access data buffer which is shared between user space app and kernel 3. do *spin_lock_irqrestore* Then this was not convincing answer. Does /boot safe on top of a lvm LV (logical volume)?

Title already asked the question. More specifically, I read in some documents that logical volumes are nice in general but not for /boot in a linux system. They say that bootloaders don't understand LVM volumes, so create a separate partition for /boot out of lvm. I recently installed Ubuntu server (9.10) for my home server, but by default /boot is created in the LVM. Everything is fine now, but I am not sure it is safe to use /boot in LVM. Second question is do I really need a physical partition (volume)(pv) for /boot or is it equally fine if I put it into a logical volume (lv) on top of a single shared volume group. I am trying to create a new Notice Alert using PHP and Javascript. Suppose that a 100 users are currently logged into to the Online Notice Board Application and any One user posts a new notice. I want an immediate alert signal on all the users screen. I know, that the simplest way of doing it is to constantly Ping the server but I don't want to do it as it will slow down the server. Moreover, I am on a shared host. So I don't have access to any Socket Port. That means, I cannot establish any direct Socket Communication Channel from the Server to the User Machine. Can any one suggest me some other solution to this kind of problems???

Forking with a listening socket

I'd like to make sure about the correctness of the way I try to use accept() on a socket. I know that in Linux it's safe to listen() on a socket, fork() N children and then recv() the packets in all of them without any synchronisation from the user side (the packets get more or less load-balanced between the children). But that's UDP. Does the same property hold for TCP and listen(), fork(), accept()? Can I just assume that it's ok to accept on a shared socket created by the parent, even when other children do the same? Is POSIX, BSD sockets or any other standard defining it somewhere?

WhatsApp - writing a clone (iphone, android, wp7)

I am trying to create a instant messaging app very much like whatsapp I suppose. My resources I have available to me are Server development in C# (REST Service, dedicated server app etc) And currently an android development platform using eclipse (iphone, wp7 to follow later). I have done some development in Android before but I don't have any idea where to start an application like this. My guess would be it would work with UDP / TCP or similar ? I currently have a shared server for an asp.net website but I presume this wouldn't be ideal, I could essential setup a web service on the server and get a client to publish his messages there but then this would mean that the receivers would have to POLL (PULL) every 5 minutes or so - so I guess this wouldn't be real time Do I need to use UDP here ? And I presume platforms like Iphone, Android and WP7 will not have any issues sending msgs by UDP - if that is how its done. I look forward to any help or guidance.

I made the mistake of signing up for shared-web hosting before asking if they supported stored procedures which took me half the day to figure out they didn't. Basically i'm looking for a site that offers me PHP5.4+/ Mysql 5.5 + with support for triggers/stored procedures/ and if possible MyphpAdmin 3.5.1. I also have a domain name I already registered and which I would like to use. What is my best option to look for hosting provider which offers this functionality or to setup a VPS?

Send mass emails php (probably a shell question?)

I've got 80,000 users on my site and i've recently turned away from the forum script i've been using and built something very simple myself that works just as well (the forum script was too bloated and resource intensive for my simple site) The only thing i've lost is the ability to mass email all my members. So i'm looking to come up with a script to do it myself. After looking around (including questions on here) I decided using Swift Mailer would be a good idea. However i've been through all the documentation and can't see how to send say "100 at a time" and i'm not sure how to go about it. To put it simply. I have an admin panel with a form with two inputs "subject" and "message". When I click submit what is the safest way for me to send 80,000 emails without crashing my server or being marked as spam? I'm on quite a beefy dedicated server so don't have the problems associated with shared servers. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Tomcat IIS 7 Integration gives 503 errors on all requests.

Hi, After many attempts to install Tomcat on IIS 7, I finally managed to get it working. At least I think so :-S. I finally got the 500 errors away, by setting the correct permissions. The only thing that doesn't work is ... serving stuff: neither regular stuff (like ASP, HTML files, or directory browsing) or Tomcat things work. Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access? SQL IO and SAN troubles

We are running two servers with identical software setup but different hardware. The first one is a VM on VMWare on a normal tower server with dual core xeons, 16 GB RAM and a 7200 RPM drive. The second one is a VM on XenServer on a powerful brand new rack server, with 4 core xeons and shared storage. We are running Dynamics AX 2012 and SQL Server 2008 R2. When I insert 15 000 records into a table on the slow tower server (as a test), it does so in 13 seconds. On the fast server it takes 33 seconds. I re-ran these tests several times with the same results. I have a feeling it is some sort of IO bottleneck, so I ran SQLIO on both. However, the 64 write test is incredibly slow on the rack server. (68 mb/sec on the slow tower vs 21 mb/s on the rack). The read speed for 64k also seems slow. Is this enough to say there is some sort of bottleneck with the shared storage? I need to know if I can take this evidence and say we need to launch an investigation into this. Any help is appreciated.

cannot access localhost using ip

I have done a small web development project using eclipse. It runs well when I try running it on browser with url localhost:8080/myproject/home.html. But if I want to access it on another machine (laptop, mobile, etc. using the same wifi) it is not possible; it is not able to connect. After Googling for a while found out that I have to use the IP address instead of 'localhost'. So I tried 10.0.0.4:8080/myproject/home.html, but still does not work. In fact i am unable to open that url on the same machine (where localhost:8080/myproject/home.html works fine). I also added a new Inbound rule in control panel firewall settings, allowing access to all ports for protocol TCP. Still have problem in running application with the url 10.0.0.4:8080/myproject/home.html (both on same machine as well as laptop and mobile). Rails 2 and Ngnix: https pages can't load css or js (but will load graphics)

ADMISSION: i've posted this same question on stackoverflow, before realising it's probabaly better suited to superuser, but it kind of depends on the answer: If it turns out to be a problem in my nginx config, it's definitely superuser. If it turns out to be a problem in my Rails config (or code) then it's arguably stackoverflow. I'm adding some https pages to my rails site. In order to test it locally, i'm running my site under one mongrel_rails instance (on 3000) and nginx. I've managed to get my nginx config to the point where i can actually go to the https pages, and they load. Except, the javascript and css files all fail to load: looking in the Network tab in chrome web tools, i can see that it is trying to load them via an https url. Eg, one of the non-working file urls is https://cmw-local.co.uk/stylesheets/cmw-logged-out.css?1383759216 I have these set up (or at least think i do) in my nginx config to redirect to the http versions of the static files. This seems to be working for graphics, but not for css and js files. If i click on this in the Network tab, it takes me to the above url, which redirects to the http version. So, the redirect seems to be working in some sense, but not when they're loaded by an https page. Like i say, i thought i had this covered in the second try_files directive in my config below, but maybe not. "Can't Connect to Server" from 2nd virtual host on VPS

I'm using Debian 7 Wheezy and Apache 2.2.22, and I'm setting up Virtual Hosts for a number of websites on my VPS. I've successfully configured the VirtualHost directives for one of the sites, but the second one continually gives "Problem Loading Page" in Firefox. I've run configtest and it has verified all my syntax is correct, and I've checked all the permissions. I've been reading that I'll need to basically just mimic the directives for listening on port 80, only on port 443, and make sure mod_ssl is enabled? EDIT: I just ran apache2 -t to test the config files that way, and got the error: apache2: bad user name ${APACHE_RUN_USER}. However, apachectl configtest returns Syntax OK. There are no other mentions of errors with the mutex anywhere else, however. I was pretty sure if there was an error with the user apache was supposed to run under, the server wouldn't start at all... EDIT 2: Restarting apache fixed the bad user name error.

MBR Booting from DOS

For a project I would like to invoke the MBR on the first harddisk directly from DOS. I've written a small assembler program that loads the MBR in memory at 0:7c00h an does a far jump to it. I've put my util on a bootable floppy. The disk (HD0, 0x80) i'm trying to boot has a TrueCrypt boot loader on it. It shows up the TrueCrypt screen, but after typing in the password it crashes the system. When I run my little utlility (w00t.com) on a normal WinXP machine it seams to crash immedealty. Apparently I'm forgetting some crucial stuff the BIOS normally does, my guess is it's something trivial. Can someone with better bare-metal DOS and BIOS experience help me out? C++ Program Always Crashes While doing a std::string assign

I have been trying to debug a crash in my application that crashes (i.e. asserts a * glibc detected free(): invalid pointer: 0x000000000070f0c0 **) while I'm trying to do a simple assign to a string. Note that I'm compiling on a linux system with gcc 4.2.4 with an optimization level set to -O2. With -O0 the application no longer crashes. E.g. std::string abc; abc = "testString"; but if I changed the code as follows it no longer crashes std::string abc("testString"); So again I scratched my head! But the interesting pattern was that the crash moved later on in the application, AGAIN at another string. I found it weird that the application was continuously crashing on a string assign. I even checked for ptr corruptions and came up empty handed. In addition to visual inspection of the code I also tried the following tools: Valgrind using both memcheck and exp-ptrcheck electric fence libsafe I compiled with -fstack-protector-all in gcc I tried MALLOC_CHECK_ set to 2 I ran my code through lint checks as well as cppcheck (to check for mistakes) And I stepped through the code using gdb So I tried a lot of stuff and still came up empty handed. So I was wondering if it could be something like a linker issue or a library issue of some sort that could be causing this problem. Are there any know issues with the std::string that make is susceptible to crashing in -O2 or maybe it has nothing to do with the optimization level? But the only pattern that I can see thus far in my problem is that it always seems to crash on a string and so I was wondering if anyone knew of any issues that my be causing this type of behavior. Function-Local Static Const variable Initialization semantics.

The questions are in bold, for those that cannot be bothered reading a question in depth. This is a followup to this question. It is to do with the initialization semantics of static variables in functions. Static variables should be initialized once, and their internal state might be altered later - as I (currently) do in the linked question. However, the code in question does not require the feature to change the state of the variable later. Let me clarrify my position, since I don't require the string object's internal state to change. The code is for a trait class for meta programming, and as such would would benifit from a const char * const ptr -- thus Ideally a local cost static const variable is needed. My educated guess is that in this case the string in question will be optimally placed in memory by the link-loader, and that the code is more secure and maps to the intended semantics. This leads to the semantics of such a variable "The C++ Programming language Third Edition -- Stroustrup" does not have anything (that I could find) to say about this matter. All that is said is that the variable is initialized once when the flow of control of the thread first reaches the code. Problem in finalizing the link list in C#

My code was almost finished that a maddening bug came up! when i nullify the last node to finalize the link list , it actually dumps all the links and make the first node link Null ! when i trace it , its working totally fine creating the list in the loop but after the loop is done that happens and it destroys the rest of the link by doing so, and i don't understand why something so obvious is becoming problematic! Having trouble wrapping functions in the linux kernel

I've written a LKM that implements Trusted Path Execution (TPE) into your kernel: https://github.com/cormander/tpe-lkm I run into an occasional kernel OOPS (describe at the end of this question) when I define WRAP_SYSCALLS to 1, and am at my wit's end trying to track it down. A little background: Since the LSM framework doesn't export its symbols, I had to get creative with how I insert the TPE checking into the running kernel. I wrote a find_symbol_address() function that gives me the address of any function I need, and it works very well. I can call functions like this: int (*my_printk)(const char *fmt, ...); my_printk = find_symbol_address("printk"); (*my_printk)("Hello, world!\n"); And it works fine. I use this method to locate the security_file_mmap, security_file_mprotect, and security_bprm_check functions. I then overwrite those functions with an asm jump to my function to do the TPE check. The problem is, the currently loaded LSM will no longer execute the code for it's hook to that function, because it's been totally hijacked. If set to 1, the LSM's hook is called because I write the original code back over the asm jump and call that function, but I run into an occasional kernel OOPS with an "invalid opcode": invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] SMP RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff8117b006>] [<ffffffff8117b006>] security_bprm_check+0x6/0x310 I don't know what the issue is. I've tried several different types of locking methods (see the inside of start/stop_my_code for details) to no avail. To trigger the kernel OOPS, write a simple bash while loop that endlessly starts a backgrounded "ls" command. After a minute or so, it'll happen. I'm testing this on a RHEL6 kernel, also works on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (2.6.32 x86_64). While this method has been the most successful so far, I have tried another method of simply copying the kernel function to a pointer I created with kmalloc but when I try to execute it, I get: kernel tried to execute NX-protected page - exploit attempt? (uid: 0). If anyone can tell me how to kmalloc space and have it marked as executable, that would also help me solve the above problem. Any help is appreciated!
