  • Clone Windows 7 to bootable USB disk

    I saw some posts here having a similar topic, but I haven't quite found what I am looking for. All I need to do is transfer my Windows 7 (Professional, 64bit) which is installed on an internal disk on my Dell Latitude laptop to an external USB disk in order to have my original system available for booting while installing a new system on the internal disk, which is essential since I need a working project environment for work in case the new system takes some days until fully completed. I already tried a disk clone with Acronis and Clonezilla, but in the 1st case it didn't even booted the clone and in the 2nd case it booted, but stopped with a bluescreen (and rebooted too fast to be able to see any error code). So has someone done successfully what I am trying to do and can help me out here?

    I'm building a very simple ASP.NET MVC site that doesn't require a database and doesn't have user accounts or any other special ASP.NET stuff. When I first created the site with the ASP.NET MVC 1.0 site template in Visual Studio, the web.config page was configured to automatically connect to SQL Server Express as a User Instance. Can I completely remove this dependency? If so, how do I get rid of all this database stuff?

  • If tables are so evil, why does joomla use tables for its layout?

    When you create a template you don't use tables. but when joomla rendereds the page, there are at least 4 places where tables are used to structure the content. Does this tell you something about tables or the fact that the joomla community should invest more time and learn how to code css or just the fact that tables are needed when you don't know what css is going to be throw in later(which probably means they are of some use)?

    MSVC's "secure" sprintf funcions have a template version that 'knows' the size of the target buffer. However, this code happily paints 567890 over the stack after the end of bytes... char bytes[5]; _snprintf_s( bytes, _TRUNCATE, "%s", "1234567890" ); Any idea what I do wrong, or is this a known bug? (I'm working in VS2005 - didn't test in 2008 or 2010)

    hi, im trying to replace our current journal (excel sheet) with a web portal based journal. something kind of like twitter, but with more options. also needs to have a login so we can track the people entering. it can also be some sort of tool but i cant find anything that meets our demands... i could use a ITIL ticket service but that has way to much functionalities for our use. im basicly looking for a webportal with a shared blog, where users can login and creat new entries with: a topic name a automated follow-up ID number a field where they can enter specific info a reply field and a status field with pre defined statuses can anyone help me with this? thanks in advance.     I am looking for a template engine to use client side. I have been trying a few like jsRepeater and jQuery Templates. While they seem to work OK in FireFox they all seem to break down in IE7 when it comes down to rendering HTML tables. I also took a look at MicrosoftAjaxTemplates.js (from http://www.codeplex.com/aspnet/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=16766) but turns out that has the same problem. Any advice on other templating engines to use?

  • Recommendations for a C++ polymorphic, seekable, binary I/O interface

    I've been using std::istream and ostream as a polymorphic interface for random-access binary I/O in C++, but it seems suboptimal in numerous ways: 64-bit seeks are non-portable and error-prone due to streampos/streamoff limitations; currently using boost/iostreams/positioning.hpp as a workaround, but it requires vigilance Missing operations such as truncating or extending a file (ala POSIX ftruncate) Inconsistency between concrete implementations; e.g. stringstream has independent get/put positions whereas filestream does not Inconsistency between platform implementations; e.g. behavior of seeking pass the end of a file or usage of failbit/badbit on errors Don't need all the formatting facilities of stream or possibly even the buffering of streambuf streambuf error reporting (i.e. exceptions vs. returning an error indicator) is supposedly implementation-dependent in practice I like the simplified interface provided by the Boost.Iostreams Device concept, but it's provided as function templates rather than a polymorphic class. (There is a device class, but it's not polymorphic and is just an implementation helper class not necessarily used by the supplied device implementations.) I'm primarily using large disk files, but I really want polymorphism so I can easily substitute alternate implementations (e.g. use stringstream instead of fstream for unit tests) without all the complexity and compile-time coupling of deep template instantiation. Does anyone have any recommendations of a standard approach to this? It seems like a common situation, so I don't want to invent my own interfaces unnecessarily. As an example, something like java.nio.FileChannel seems ideal. My best solution so far is to put a thin polymorphic layer on top of Boost.Iostreams devices.   • Hibernating Ubuntu on EC2 instance?

    I've got an application I'd like to move to EC2. It will likely spend more than half the day completely dormant, so I'm trying to come up with a good solution for starting and stopping it as needed. It takes a few minutes to start up from nothing, so it would be nice if i could hibernate the OS for quicker resumes. I've seen a couple forum discussions on the topic of hibernation within EC2, but never anything conclusive. Has anyone found a working solution to this, or at least some resources that could help me out?
