    I am very new to ubuntu, I decided to try it out two days ago. I am using proxy server [41.74.91.139 with user name and password]. I cant access any on-line resources both with the terminal, transmission(to download torrents), or Ubuntu software center. For firefox, I have configured it and can download .deb and other files but need direct access. Please give me step by step instruction as to how to configure and authenticate 12.04 terminal.     I have synced files from two different devices. Now I want to copy to contents of the synced files to the other device. Using the web interface, it seems only possible to download one file at a time. Is there a way to setup automatic sync or to download all the files in a folder with one step?     That's it - I got tired from the constant problems on and about Windows I'm having. Network issues, performance issues, compatibility issues... But I'll seriously miss OneDrive integration (all my files are there). There is some kind of app that can sync with it? And what is the easiest way to install JDK? Through PPAs? Note that I have no plans to keep Windows, I'll just replace the d*mn thing with Ubuntu (maybe Mint).

  • Disable Java Hardware Acceleration in windows?

    I have some issues with my graphics card and I want to disable Hardware Acceleration for java apps. Everything that uses HA is displayed blurry. I've seen some tutorials on how to set this parameter -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false The problem is that the Java Control panel itself is using hardware acceleration and I cannot see anything in order to add this parameter. Edit: Went to java control panel in safe mode, added that parameter and problem continues..   • Java plugin in the browser doesn't work even though it is enabled

    I installed the Java Development Kit (64-bit) recently and saw it includes the JRE plugin for 64-bit as well. But, since Firefox is 32-bit, I also installed JRE 32-bit version. This is what is shown in Programs and Features. Now, the problem is, the other day, I opened a site which required the Java plugin. The frame showed the regular Java loading animation and hung. Nothing happened after that. Like this: I checked Firefox's plugins section and it shows Java is enabled, so no issue there I tried other browsers - IE10 and Chrome but to no avail. It doesn't work anywhere. I saw another question which said that you have to install 64-bit then 32-bit. That's what I actually did as well. First, installed JDK 7 64-bit (which includes JRE 7 64-bit) and then installed JRE 7 32-bit. I even tried the Java website's Do I have Java? section and over there too, it just keeps spinning for ages (I have waited for more than 10-20 seconds). How do I go about now? This never happened to me in Windows 7. I am on Windows 8 Pro.

    Hello community, as mentioned above - i encountered serious troubles. here are the versions of the related software: SuSE 11.2, Thunderbird v.3.1.6, released October 27, 2010, Firefox 3.6 v3.6.12 I created an installations with an own partition both for the user and for the TB-Mails. For a new installation on another hardware i took these partitions. When i wanted to read the emails, i got an error-message like this: The GPG-agent for your GnuPG-version 2.0.12 couldn´t get started Further i got an error message for the access on services of enigmail. The file jar:file:///usr/lib/mozilla/extensions/{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}/{847b3a00-7ab1-11d4-8f02-006008948af5}/chrome/enigmail.jar!/locale/de-DE/enigmail/help/initError.html couldn´t get found. I found out, that this path doesn´t come from TB nor from firefox, but from enigmail. I installed several (un-)pack-programs. the only effect was, that in the menu of TB the entry for OpenPGP appeared in the TB-Menu. The errors as described above repeat at every try to read an email. I deleted and re-installed enigmail, but the errors dont´t disappear. What can i do to get rid these error-messages ? Thanks in advance

  • Linux Kernel Packet Forwarding Performance

    I've been using a Linux box as a router for some time now. Nothing too fancy, just enabling forwarding in the kernel, turning on masquerading, and setting up iptables to poke a few holes in the firewall. Recently a friend of mine pointed out a performance problem. Single TCP connections seem to experience very poor performance. You have to open multiple parallel TCP connections to get decent speed. For example, I have a 10 Mbit internet connection. When I download a file from a known-fast source using something like the DownThemAll! extension for Firefox (which opens multiple parallel TCP connections) I can get it to max out my downstream bandwidth at around 1 MB/s. However, when I download the same file using the built-in download manager in Firefox (uses only a single TCP connection) it starts fast and the speed tanks until it tops out around 100 KB/s to 350 KB/s. I've checked the internal network and it doesn't seem to have any problems. Everything goes through a 100 Mbit switch. I've also run iperf both internally (from the router to my desktop) and externally (from my desktop to a Linux box I own out on the net) and haven't seen any problems. It tops out around 1 MB/s like it should. Speedtest.net also reports 10 Mbits speeds. The load on the Linux machine is around 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 all the time, and it's got plenty of free RAM. It's an older laptop with a Pentium M 1.6 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM. The internal network is connected to the built in Intel NIC and the cable modem is connected to a Netgear FA511 32-bit PCMCIA network card. I think the problem is with the packet forwarding in the router, but I honestly am not sure where the problem could be. Is there anything that would substantially slow down a single TCP stream?

  • Google Chrome does not launch after some months without using it in Windows XP/Seven

    Well, I have in computers I use with Windows XP or Seven more than one browser installed on them, generally Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 4, Opera 11 and Google Chrome. I often use Firefox, but I want to use Google Chrome sometimes because I have a lot of addons and webapps on it. The issue is: when I try to execute Chrome after some months without using it, it does not function. Using Proccess Explorer or Task Manager, I can see that there is not any Google proccesses running. Then I reinstall it and all functions. But if I do not use it for some months again, it will not function... Is it an update problem? Must I use Chrome everyday or is there another way to avoid that issue? PS: I installed English and Portuguese last versions (how to get the version numbers when it does not execute?), not at the same time, and it continues to do not launch... PS2: There is a running Google Update proccess that is launched in startup: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run    Name:            Google Update    Type:            REG_SZ    Data:            "C:\Users\Ubirajara\AppData\Local\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe" /c

  • Server appears to have lost ability to read PHP files with LAMP

    I have LAMP installed on a PC that is running Ubuntu 11.10. LAMP was running fine but I had to restart the PC because Unity was messing up (as it often does) and the tool bar had disappeared. When it started up, I was unable to fire up any php files. I have a file index.php in /var/www. It is owned by www-data as is the directory that it is in. The LAN address of the server is 192.168.1.10. However when I type 192.168.1.10 into the URL box on Mozilla FireFox, I get Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.10 This server is connected to another server on the LAN that has the LAN address 192.168.1.4. When I type 192.168.1.4 into the Firefow URL box on 192.168.1.10, I see the display associated with index.php on 192.168.1.4. Why can it not display its own /var/www/index.php? Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated, Peter.

  • Gmail notification in Ubuntu's native mail icon.

    So, new Ubuntu 10.04 up and running. Playing with the interface eventually got me curious about something. Up until now, I've only used the chat and broadcasting functionalities of the mail icon in Ubuntu's top panel, mostly because I take care of my mail on firefox so I don't need one more program (empathy) running on my poor little netbook. I'm currenty using gnome-gmail to set gmail as my default mail client in Ubuntu. But, when I click on the "Set up mail" item, inside the Panel's Mail icon, it simply brings up empathy. My question is: Is it possible (in any way whatsoever) to have my gmail notifications up there, configured so that clicking it will just take me to a gmail tab in Firefox? (instead of opening up empathy) This is really just some frivolous interest of mine, nothing important. Right now I'm using check-gmail to notify me of new mail, but the panel is really cramped up on my netbook, so it'd be nice to free up some room by getting rid of check-gmail and only using Ubuntu's mail icon. Ok, hope I was clear enough.

    Problem: On my wireless network at home, there is one URL that I just cannot access with my browser: http://research.microsoft.com/ I have no problems with the Internet connection otherwise. But on that address I just get The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. from Firefox. I am using a DSL modem (Westell) and Linksys wireless router (using DHCP). When I use my neighbor's wireless connection I can access the microsoft site without a problem. Additional technical details: But with my connection, here is what I get from nslookup.
