• Spy++ for PowerBuilder applications

  Hi, I'm trying to write a tool which lets me inspect the state of a PowerBuilder-based application. What I'm thinking of is something like Spy++ (or, even nicer, 'Snoop' as it exists for .NET applications) which lets me inspect the object tree (and properties of objects) of some PowerBuilder-based GUI. I did the same for ordinary (MFC-based) applications as well as .NET applications already, but unfortunately I never developed an application in PowerBuilder myself, so I'm generally thinking about two problems at this point: Is there some API (preferably in Java or C/C++) available which lets one traverse the tree of visual objects of a PowerBuilder application? I read up a bit on the PowerBuilder Native Interface system, but it seems that this is meant to write PowerBuilder extensions in C/C++ which can then be called from the PowerBuilder script language, right? If there is some API available - maybe PowerBuilder applications even expose some sort of IPC-enabled API which lets me inspect the state of a PowerBuilder object hierarchy without being within the process of the PowerBuilder application? Maybe there's an automation interface available, or something COM-based - or maybe something else? Right now, my impression is that probably need to inject a DLL into the process of the PowerBuilder application and then gain access to the running PowerBuilder VM so that I can query it for the object tree. Some sort of IPC mechanism will then let me transport this information out of the PowerBuilder application's process.   Data Layer I have an Order class as an entity. This Order entity is my model object. Order can be different types, let it be A B C D Also Order class may have common properties like Name, Time of creation, etc. Also based on the order type there are different fields that are not common. View Layer The view contains the following Main Menu ListView The Main Menu contains the drop down menu button which is used to create the order based on the type selected from the drop down. The drop down contains the Order types ( A ,B , C and D). There are different user control based on the order type. Like for example if user chooses to create an order of type A then different view with different inputs field is popped up. Hence, there are four user control for each order type. If user selects A option from the drop down then Order of type A is created and vica versa. Now below is the List View that contains the List of orders so far created by the user. To Edit any particular order user may double click the list view row. Based on the order type clicked by the user in the listview, the view of that order type opens in edit mode. For example if user selects an order type A from the list view then view for order type A open in edit mode. Please suggest me interaction model for view model's in the scenario discussed above. • Active Directory Password Policy Problem

  To Clarify: my question is why isn't my password policy applying to people in the domain. Hey guys, having trouble with our password policy in Active Directory. Sometimes it just helps me to type out what I’m seeing It appears to not be applying properly across the board. I am new to this environment and AD in general but I think I have a general grasp of what should be going on. It’s a pretty simple AD setup without too many Group Policies being applied. It looks something like this DOMAIN Default Domain Policy (link enabled) Password Policy (link enabled and enforce) Personal OU Force Password Change (completely empty nothing in this GPO) IT OU Lockout Policy (link enabled and enforced) CS OU Lockout Policy Accouting OU Lockout Policy The password policy and default domain policy both define the same things under Computer ConfigWindows seetings sec settings Account Policies / Password Policy Enforce password History : 24 passwords remembered Maximum Password age : 180 days Min password age: 14 days Minimum Password Length: 6 characters Password must meet complexity requirements: Enabled Store Passwords using reversible encryption: Disabled Account Policies / Account Lockout Policy Account Lockout Duration 10080 Minutes Account Lockout Threshold: 5 invalid login attempts Reset Account Lockout Counter after : 30 minutes IT lockout This just sets the screen saver settings to lock computers when the user is Idle. After running Group Policy modeling it seems like the password policy and default domain policy is getting applied to everyone. • Choosing a Java Web Framework now?

  we are in the planning stage of migrating a large website which is built on a custom developed mvc framework to a java based web framework which provides built-in support for ajax, rich media content, mashup, templates based layout, validation, maximum html/java code separation. Grails looked like a good choice, however, we do not want to use a scripting language. We want to continue using java. Template based layout is a primary concern as we intend to use this web application with multiple web sites with similar functionality but radically different look and feel. Is portal based solution a good fit to this problem? Any insights on using "Spring Roo" or "Play" will be very helpful. I did find similar posts like this, but it is more than a year old. Things have surely changed in the mean time! EDIT 1: Thanks for the great answers! This site is turning to be the best single source for in-the-trenches programmer info.   I found this in the Event Viewer logs: The description for Event ID 11 from source RAMDiskVE cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. Which doesn't say much. The details don't reveal much more: Failed to read configuration information from registry. 0000000002002C00000000000B0007C0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 So my question is, what is RAMDiskVE and what device is it for? Basically I'm trying to rule out hardware but I have no idea what's failing...

• Mac OSX server command equivalent for dhclient?

  Is there an MacOS command that makes a dhcp request, and renews the old lease, drops it for a new one, or usefully reports errors or lack of response from a dhcp server? This would both help fix networking on the machine after problems on the network without rebooting and would also be useful to diagnose wider networking problems from a mac. I can not find any command equivalent of dhclient though obviously some component must be serving this purpose. The question is, is that component exposed to a command line interface? I am biased to the command line for these features and may have overlooked settings panels or tools that might solve it using a gui interface. I believe this question is at the heart of this other question: Is there an equivalent command for 'init.d/networking restart' in OS X

  After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." Since the CBS.log file is too large, I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" (as per Microsoft's KB 928228 article) to only get the log text pertaining to the corrupt files. • ai: Determining what tests to run to get most useful data

  This is for http://cssfingerprint.com I have a system (see about page on site for details) where: I need to output a ranked list, with confidences, of categories that match a particular feature vector the binary feature vectors are a list of site IDs & whether this session detected a hit feature vectors are, for a given categorization, somewhat noisy (sites will decay out of history, and people will visit sites they don't normally visit) categories are a large, non-closed set (user IDs) my total feature space is approximately 50 million items (URLs) for any given test, I can only query approx. 0.2% of that space I can only make the decision of what to query, based on results so far, ~10-30 times, and must do so in <~100ms (though I can take much longer to do post-processing, relevant aggregation, etc) getting the AI's probability ranking of categories based on results so far is mildly expensive; ideally the decision will depend mostly on a few cheap sql queries I have training data that can say authoritatively that any two feature vectors are the same category but not that they are different (people sometimes forget their codes and use new ones, thereby making a new user id) I need an algorithm to determine what features (sites) are most likely to have a high ROI to query (i.e. to better discriminate between plausible-so-far categories [users], and to increase certainty that it's any given one). This needs to take into balance exploitation (test based on prior test data) and exploration (test stuff that's not been tested enough to find out how it performs). There's another question that deals with a priori ranking; this one is specifically about a posteriori ranking based on results gathered so far. Right now, I have little enough data that I can just always test everything that anyone else has ever gotten a hit for, but eventually that won't be the case, at which point this problem will need to be solved. I imagine that this is a fairly standard problem in AI - having a cheap heuristic for what expensive queries to make - but it wasn't covered in my AI class, so I don't actually know whether there's a standard answer. So, relevant reading that's not too math-heavy would be helpful, as well as suggestions for particular algorithms. What's a good way to approach this problem?

• how to verify browser IP for server-side web service

  I have a web service that needs to be able to verify the end-user's IP that called the server-script that is requesting the web service. Simple layout: Person A goes to Webpage B. Webpage B calls Web Service C to get some info on Person A. Web Service C won't give Webpage B the requested information without confirmation that the request originated from Person A's IP and not someone who has stolen Person A's session. I'm thinking that for a browser-based solution, the original site (Webpage B) can open an iframe that goes to the Web Service's authentication page. A key of some kind is passed to the browser which will some how indicate both the user's IP and Web Page B's IP, so that the Web Service can confirm that no one has nabbed anything. I have two challenges, but I'll stick to the more immediate one first: I'm not sure if my browser-based plan really makes sense. If someone steals the session cookie, how is the Web Service going to know? Would this cookie be held be Web Page B and thus be harder to steal? Is it a sound assumption that a cookie or key held by the server only and not the browser is safe? Also, would the web service, based on the iframe initial connection, be expecting the server/user-ip combo? What I mean is, does the session key provided via the iframe get stored by the web service and the Web Site B shows it has a match? Or is the session key more generic, meaning the web service is passed the key by Website B and the Web Service verifies that this is a valid session key based on what a valid session key should look like?

  Hello, I'm designing a web application, which will support both standard UIs (accessed via browsers) and a RESTful API (an XML/JSON-based web service). User agents will be able to differentiate between these by using different values in the Accept HTTP header. The RESTful API will use the following URI structure (example for an "article" resource): GET /article/ - gets a list of articles POST /article/ - adds a new article PUT /article/{id} - updates an existing article based on {id} DELETE /article/{id} - deletes an existing article based on {id} The UI part of the application will however need to support multiple views, for example: a standard resource view a view for submitting a new resource a view for editing an existing resource a view for deleting an existing resource (i.e. display delete confirmation) Note that the latter three views are still accessed via GET, even though they are processed via overloaded POST. Possible solution: Introduce additional parameters (keywords) into URIs which would identify individual views - i.e. on top of the above, the application would support the following URIs (but only for Content-Type: text/html): GET /article/add - displays a form for adding a new article (fetched via GET, processed via POST) GET /article/123 - displays article 123 in "view" mode (fetched via GET) GET /article/123/edit - displays article 123 in "edit" mode (fetched via GET, processed via PUT overloaded as POST) GET /article/123/delete - displays "delete" confirmation for article 123 (fetched via GET, processed via DELETE overloaded as POST) A better implementation of the above might be to put the add/edit/delete keywords into a GET parameter - since they do not change the resource we're working with, it might be better to keep the base URI same for all of them. • Authenticated WCF: Getting the Current Security Context

  I have the following scenario: I have various user's data stored in my database. This data was entered via a web app. We'd like to expose this data back to the user over a web service so that they can integrate their data with their applications. We would also like to expose some business logic over these services. As such we do not want to use OData. This is a multi-tenant application so I only want to expose their data back to them and not other users. Likewise, the business logic we expose should be relative to the authenticated user. I would like let the user use an OASIS scheme to authenticate with the web service -- WCF already allows for this out of the box as far as I understand -- or perhaps we can issue them certificates to authenticate with. That bit hasn't really been worked out yet. Here is a bit of pseudo-code of how I envision this would work within the service: function GetUsersData(id) var user := Lookup User based on Username from Auth Context var data := Get Data From Repository based on "user" return data end function For the business logic scenario I think it would look something like this: function PerformBusinessLogic(someData) var user := Lookup User based on Username from Auth Context var returnValue := Perform some logic based on supplied data return returnValue end function The hard bit here is getting the current username (or cert info in the cert scenario) that the user authenticated with! • Deployment Workbench no longer available after PXE boot

  Our build process revolves around windows Deployment Workbench. Unfortunately this was setup by someone who is no longer with the company, and no-one has ever dared/needed to make any changes. The other day it stopped working. It turns out that one of our build guys started thinking about changing some stuff in it, clicked something and now it no longer works (He is saying now that he right clicked on the 'LAB' entry in 'Deployment points' and hit 'Update', which took some time to run through apparently). The job has fallen on me to resolve and frankly I'm not sure what I'm doing. I was wondering if someone with more experience than me can provide some pointers as to troubleshooting cos I'm feeling quite a lot in the dark here. On the server I have Deployment Workbench up and running (MMC snapin) version 3.0. There is a WDS service that appears to be running ok, as does the tFTPd service. Nothing specific to this in event logs. From the client side; PXE boot works and gets you to the Win PE launch, and it has the correct company logo as the background (proving to me that its loading win PE from the network). WPEINIT runs, and asks for domain credentials, here the team simply put User/Pass/Domain in the boxes and click ok. Normally the build would kick off. Instead they get an error message saying that the \NATBLU01\Distribution$ share isn't available. Checking \NATBLU01\Distribution$ shows that its there and accessible over the network. Security/permissions seem ok, even 'ANONYMOUS LOGON' has read access to that share so I don't see that being a problem. Digging the trace files from C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS\ after an attempt to run the build I can see an error saying much the same - <![LOG[Validating connection to \\NATBLU01\Distribution$]LOG]!><time="16:42:14.000+000" date="03-15-2012" component="LiteTouch" context="" type="1" thread="" file="LiteTouch"> <![LOG[FindFile: The file OSDConnectToUNC.exe could not be found in any standard locations.]LOG]!><time="16:42:14.000+000" date="03-15-2012" component="LiteTouch" context="" type="1" thread="" file="LiteTouch"> <![LOG[The network location cannot be reached. IPCONFIG returns nothing so none of the tests I would usually run resolve anything. I'm at a loss frankly. I did wonder if I could perhaps start a new build process but if the change to the DeploymentWorkbench has knocked it offline I don't think I'm going to be able to create a new deployment. Failing that; we do have a deployment point labeled type 'Media' which appears to be a DVD ISO image of one of the builds, but its dated 2008, is it possible to export the network build to .ISO and build from DVD? We are looking at new hardware to run this from anyway (for the impending Windows 7 roll out) so a temporary work round isn't going to be too much of a problem. All assistance is appreciated! EDIT : OK. Got it working again. Solution was close to Newmanth's idea. The problem was that our PE image didn't appear to be connecting the network. I had an older copy of the PE boot.WIM on a stick that I had been using for other purposes. I booted that and correctly got a network connection. Showed a correct internal IP and could ping out etc etc. However I was still getting the same errors in all the logs and in when wpeinit was running. What I did seperately was to update the PE image that DeploymentWorkbench was pushing out to display a different back ground. I wanted to prove that I was working in the correct place. Turns out that I wasn't. I went and looked at the other deployment stuff we had on this machine, Windows Deployment Services was installed and although all the install images are off line the boot image was online, so I uploaded the copy from my stick to that. Booted straight off. And fixed. Working. Yay! For anyone stumbling across this in the future you may find that although your deployment images are located in the DeploymentWorkbench, the Win PE boot image you are launching from is located in the associated Windows Deployment Services images.

• Which video types are considered secure/trusted by Windows Vista Media Center?

  I've been working to set up a Windows Vista Media Center and I noticed that when I play certain DVDs, the video is scrambled. After watching this video, I think it is because Windows Vista considers Component Cables to be untrusted and therefore scrambles the video. The video says that VGA is a trusted video type, but I was curious of which other types are trusted? If I were to use a DVI to HDMI cable, would that be trusted? Edit: Scrambled as in: The video looks like a rainbow checkerboard. The audio plays as expected. I'm using component cables for the connection to my TV.

• Lookup Active Directory entry by implicit UPN

  In our company exists a forest-wide UPN suffix company.com and almost all user accounts have the explicit UPN set to [email protected]. This value is also set in the Active Directory userPrincipalName attribute. Now we have an application where users perform authentication through Kerberos. So we are given the Kerberos principal, i.e. implicit UPN. We'd like to look up that user and retrieve several LDAP attributes. Since iUPN and userPrincipalName do not match anymore, the lookup is not possible. Is there any "official" way to retrieve a mapping from the Active Direcory? My workaround is to perform a LDAP bind against the realm component and search for the sAMAccountName attribute which matches the user id component of the iUPN. Searching for the mere sAMAccountName in the forest is not possible because the value is unique in the domain only.

  I was going through some videos. I found that Windows Azure will group the blobs into partitions based on the partition key and will Automatically Load Balance these partitions on their servers. The partition key for a blob is blob name. Using the blob name, azure will automatically do partitions. Now, My question is that Can I able to make the azure to do partitions based on the Container Name. I wanted my partition key to be container name. For example, I have a storage account. In that I have 2 containers named container1 and container2. In container1, I have 1000 files named 1.txt, 2.txt, 3.txt, ......., 501.txt, 502.txt, ..... 999.txt, 1000.txt and in container2, I have another 1000 files named 1001.txt, 1002.txt, 1003.txt, ......., 1501.txt, 1502.txt, ..... 1999.txt, 2000.txt Now, Will Windows Azure will generate 2000 partitions based on the blob name and serve me through several servers??? Won't it be better if Azure partitions based on the Container name? container1 on one server and conatiner2 on another.

  On my win7 machine when I watch a movie in XBMC, once per hour the desktop regains the focus. The movie keeps playing, but in the background now, so I can only hear it. It is quite irritating. I noticed, that the Windows Application log always contains two entres for this time: "The description for Event ID 0 from source Self-service Plug-in cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer." One entry is for starting, and one for stopping 60 seconds later. This keeps repeating, every two starts 3600 seconds apart. How can I repair it? How can I find out which service it is?

• Is there any Mac Pro hardware parts that can ONLY be purchased thru Apple?

  I'd like to know if I need to be concerned about any hardware parts that I should include in a brand new Mac Pro purchase, instead of trying to hunt it down on 3rd party vendors (or whitelist vendors / hardware suppliers). The main components I'm interested for "upgradeability" are: Processors (If starting with Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core "Westmere"); RAM (If starting with the least possible, which seems to be 6 x 1GB); Video Cards (If starting with one ATI Radeon HD 5770, can a 2nd one be purchased elsewhere?) Hard-Drives (Since these are mounted in specialized trays [if I'm not mistaking], are they also sold elsewhere? And can they be bought as SSDs?) Power Supply (Do I need to be concerned about this at all, or does it auto-adjust depending on the new component upgrades?) I just want to be sure by choosing a Mac Pro with lower component specifications that I can in fact purchase upgrade parts cheaper elsewhere. Thanks!

• MSDTC Port 135 open bi-directionally

  I have two servers, a web application server and an SQL Server database running on its own server. I have a firewall between these two servers. Do I have to open port 135 on both the SQL Server and the Web Application Server. Does the SQL Server open its own connection to the Web Application Server on port 135 or any other port? Do I have to in component services point the Web Application Server MSDTC at the SQL Database Server? If the firewall is completely open, the settings in component services set to allow remote connections, remote administration etc is there any other settings that need to be changed in order to allow remote connections to the SQL Server MSDTC?
