• Single Sign On for a Web App

  I have been trying to understand how this problem is solved for over a month now. I really need to come up with a general approach that works -- I'm basically the only resource who can do it. I have a theory, but I'm just not sure it's the easiest (or correct) approach and I haven't been able to find any information to support my ideas. Here's the scenario: 1) You have a complex web application that offers secure content on a subscription basis. 2) Users are required to log in to your application with user name and password. 3) You sell to large corporations, which already have a corporate authentication technology (for example, Active Directory). 4) You would like to integrate with the corporate authentication mechanism to allow their users to log onto your Web App without having to enter their user name and password. Now, any solution you come up with will have to provide a mechanism for: adding new users removing users changing user information allowing users to log in Ideally, all these would happen "automagically" when the corporate customer made the corresponding changes to their own authentication. Now, I have a theory that the way to do this (at least for Active Directory) would be for me to write a client-side app that integrates with the customer's Active Directory to track the targeted changes, and then communicate those changes to my Web App. I think that if this communication were done via Web Services offered by my web app, then it would maintain an unhackable level of security, which would obviously be a requirement for these corporate customers. I've found some information about a Microsoft product called Active Directory Federation Service (ADFS) which may or may not be the right approach for me. It seems to be a bit bulky and have some requirements that might not work for all customers. For other existing ID scenarios (like Athens and Shibboleth), I don't think a client application is necessary. It's probably just a matter of tying into the existing ID services. I would appreciate any advice anyone has on anything I've mentioned here. In particular, if you can tell me if my theory is correct about providing a client-side app that communicates with server-side Web Services, or if I'm totally going in the wrong direction. Also, if you could point me at any web sites or articles that explain how to do this, I'd really appreciate it. My research has not turned up much so far. Finally, if you could let me know of any Web applications that currently offer this service (particularly as tied to a corporate Active Directory), I would be very grateful. I am wondering if other B2B Web app's like salesforce.com, or hoovers.com offer a similar service for their corporate customers. • Binding to a WPF hosted control's DependencyProperty in WinForms

  I have a WinForms app with some elements that are hosted WPF user controls (using ElementHost). I want to be able to bind my WinForm's control property (Button.Enabled) to a custom DependencyProperty of the hosted WPF user control (SearchResults.IsAccountSelected). Is it possible to bind a System.Windows.Forms.Binding to a property managed by a DependencyProperty? Also, since I know the System.Windows.Forms.Binding watches for INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged events - will a property backed by a DependencyProperty automatically fire these events or will I have to implement and manage the sending of PropertyChanged events manually?

• openvpn: after changing to server mode, client does not create TUN device

  i had a previously working configuration with the config files used in a previous question However, i've changed this now to the following configuration using server mode, everything on the logs seem fine, however the client doesn't create any tun interface, so i don't have anything to connect to, presumably, i need to add or push some route commands, but i don't have any idea at this point what i need to do. • Working out global tab order algorithmically?

  We have a proprietry system where we can configure fields on indiviual forms. However these fields have a global tab order (we cannot specify for a specific form). We have a bunch of forms (35 in total) which share a lot of different fields. Each form has a specific tab/edit order that needs to be configured. Example: Form 1 has fields A,B,C,D in that order. Form 2 has fields E,F,G,A in that order. Form 3 has fields E,B,H,I in that order. The global tab orders would be E,F,G,A,B,C,D,H,I Notice how A needs to come before B yet after G. Is there any easy way to work this out using the tab order lists for each form? I need to merge this tab order information into a single global tab order list. I have over 200 fields in total and it is near impossible to do by hand.

  I'm used to ASPNET and Django's methods of doing forms: nice object-orientated handlers, where you can specify regexes for validation and do everything in a very simple way. After months living happily without it, I've had to come back to PHP for a project and noticed that everything I used to do with PHP forms (manual output, manual validation, extreme pain) was utter rubbish. Is there a nice, simple and free class that does form generation and validation like it should be done? Clonefish has the right idea, but it's way off on the price tag.

  Developing a multilingual application in VB.Net 2008, Im able to add resources to forms and create a multilingual forms depending on uiculture. On reading Msdn on creating the multilingual string values for messagebox contents, have added the .resource file to the project files path as specified. Ultimately the service delivers an array of operations that each client can perform based on their selected role. I've opened a new Silverlight Business Application and tried to understand how authentication/authorization works in this template, as well as scoured the web to find examples to how to hook my webservice to the login box already created in the template, but I am completely at a loss as how to do this! Can anyone offer any advice?

• How to display and update data in MVC2

Each Product can have many suppliers. I am using Entity Framework. Using Web Forms it was fairly easy to display a Product on a web page and bind a repeater with the suppliers information. Also, with Web Forms it was easy to Add new Product and suppliers, the linkage seemed easy. How do you do this sort of functionality in MVC? In the Create View below, I want to be able to Add the Supplier as well. Is there a better approach that I might be missing here? This is how I did it with Web Forms. Beyond the code below I am totally lost. I can show data in a list and also display the Suppliers for each Product, but how do I Add and Edit. Should I break it into different views? • Data refresh and drill down problem with SSAS cube and excel services

  I have a SSAS cube which I am using in an excel document, prepare a report which has drill-down etc and i am publishing it to a sharepoint site. It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. What is the solution for this????

Nothing else changed.   Hi All, All the time we are hearing that java is enterprise. We have read many books about jpa, entity beans and other stuff. All this books explain this technology with some dummy examples. I have not seen a book that explains real problems with enterprise beans, java clients and security! I mean real book not some imaginated stupid examples . Is there any book that describes completely some enterprise system, Its architecture, communication, security, of course the client that uses the distributed components ? I need a book that will cover the flowing: server side components (ejb, jpa) client side java desktop application security (authentication and authorization) web services with complete authentication clustering (we can find for all of this a book, but there is no book that covers all this things in one piece. • Jersey, Spring, Tomcat and Security Annotations

  I need to secure a simple jersey RESTful API in a Tomcat 6.0.24 container. I'd like to keep the authentication with Basic Authentication using the tomcat-users.xml file to define the users and roles (this is for now, like I said its small). Now, for authorization I'd like to be able to use the JSR 250 annotations like @RolesAllowed, @PermitAll, @DenyAll, etc. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to wire this all up together. I really don't want to go spring-security route, since I need something very simple at the current time. Can someone point me in the right direction.

• Can you authenticate into SSAS with AD LDS (ADAM) accounts?

  I'm very new to AD LDS and experienced but not qualified with SSAS, so my apologies for my ignorances with these. We have a couple implementations where we expose SSAS via an HTTPS proxy (msmdpump.dll) and currently we have a temporary domain setup handling this (where our end-users have a second account+creds to manage because of this = non-ideal). I want to move us towards a more permanent solution which I'm thinking of moving all authentication to AD LDS for our web apps, SSAS, and others. However, SSAS is where I'm concerned about this. I know SSAS requires Windows Authentication and to play nicely, and that this ultimately means Active Directory will be involved. Is there a way to get this done with AD LDS instead of having to use a full AD DS implementation? If so, how?

• Anybody have any success getting around IIS7 issues with WiX 3.5?

  WiX 3.5 still is having issues with creating websites in IIS7. I can get around most of them, but I'm getting hosed by the inability to configure the website authentication mode. Traditionally, you would just use the WebDirProperties to, for instance, turn on windows authentication: <iis:WebDirProperties Id="OMFG3.5BUGSUX" WindowsAuthentication="yes" /> Well, this doesn't work. So, now, once my nice lovely installer exits you get a big fat screw-you-unauthorized-jerk message. Not exactly professional looking. Does anybody have any suggestions/tips on working around these shortcomings in WiX?

• C# timer won't tick

  hi, i have a strange problem... I've been going out of my mind for the past couple of hours... the timer i put in my winform code (from the toolbar) won't tick... I have timers on a couple of forms in my program, they all work fine... I try to do exactly the same it this it won't tick... I select it, drag it on to a form, enable it, set interval and handle the tick event... and nothing happens... i even tried putting random code like messagebox.show in the tick event just to see if anything happens, and nothing!!! as I said, a have a couple of more timer in my program (on other forms, not in the one i'm trying to put this timer) and they all work fine... any suggestions? thanks in advance!

• error during build using sandcastle help builder with visual studio 2010 .NET 4.0 project

  I was using sandcastle to generate help for my project in visual studio 2008. When i change my project to visual studio 2010 and change the project .NET version to .NET 4.0 i got this problem with Sandcastel. I can't understand why sandcastel is using C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.5\MSBuild.exe and not C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0\MSBuild.exe thinking that i specified as framework version the v4.0.30319 Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue?? Where to change the path of the msbuild.exe or some other solution ??? Generating reflection information...
