  • sudo in Debian squeeze inside linux-vserver always wants password

    - by mark
    Every since I upgraded all my linux-vserver Debian guests from Lenny to Squeeze I've the apparent problem that whenever I want to use sudo it asks me for my password. Every time. I've configured sudo to have a timeout of 30 minutes: Defaults timestamp_timeout=30 . This has been configured when it was still Lenny (note: as suggested by EightBitTony I've also tried without this setting - no change). I've a hard time figuring out what the problem here is, since I think my configuration is right. I thought about it being a problem with the file used to record the timestamp, maybe a permission issue, but was unlucky to find any hard evidence. I've compared the contents of /var/lib/sudo/ between a working and a non-working system but couldn't spot any difference. The version of sudo used in both environments is 1.7.4p4-2.squeeze.3. My non-working system(s): find /var/lib/sudo/ -ls 17319289 4 drwx------ 4 root root 4096 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/ 17319286 4 drwx------ 2 root mark 4096 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark 17319312 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/6 17319361 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/9 17319490 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/10 17319326 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/4 17319491 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/2 A working system: find /var/lib/sudo -ls 2598921 4 drwx------ 5 root root 4096 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo 1999522 4 drwx------ 2 root mark 4096 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark 2000781 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/8 1998998 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/17 1999459 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/26 1998930 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/24 2000771 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jun 25 11:39 /var/lib/sudo/mark/4 2000773 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/5 1999223 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/0 1998908 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/14 2000769 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jul 9 13:30 /var/lib/sudo/mark/2 2000770 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/3 2000782 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/9 2000778 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jul 8 00:11 /var/lib/sudo/mark/7 1998892 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/19 1999264 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/23 2000789 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/12 1999093 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/25 1998880 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/18 1998853 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/20 2000790 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/15 1998878 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/16 1998874 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/13 2000774 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/6 2000786 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/11 1998893 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/22 2000783 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/10 1998949 4 -rw------- 1 root mark 40 Jan 1 1985 /var/lib/sudo/mark/1 Despite the obvious (some up2date timestamps on the working system) I don't see anything wrong here, so it could be as well be a wrong track. • "Oracle Fusion Is Worth Your Consideration," States Mark Smith of Ventana Research

    - by Richard Lefebvre
After attending OOW 2012, Mark Smith of Ventana Research has written a great blog post on Oct 4th, 2012 titled "Oracle Fusion for CRM and HCM Ready with a Mobile Tap." In this blog post, Mark goes on to say: "It was a great opportunity to get close to the Oracle Fusion Applications, which the company presented as proven and ready, with customers using them on-premises and in private and public cloud computing usage methods. In keynotes from executives Larry Ellison, Mark Hurd and Thomas Kurian and application-focused sessions with executives Steve Miranda and Chris Leone, Oracle repeated the message that Fusion Applications are not just for cloud computing and web services but are also accessible through mobile technology called Oracle Fusion Tap that operates natively on the Apple iPad. The company left no confusion about its applications' readiness for cloud and mobile computing, and provided insight into future advancements." Mark also states: " After two days of Oracle and customer sessions, along with a visit to the demonstration stands in the exposition area, it was clear that Oracle has made an important change in its approach to the market and its executive-level commitment to Fusion Applications. I saw more dialogue with partners to complement its applications, and many announcements, including Oracle's on partners in Fusion CRM, who were also visible during presentations and demonstrations." In closing, Mark makes the following proclamation: "Oracle Fusion is worth your consideration whether you are considering a move to cloud computing or still run applications on-premises or use a hybrid approach which provides more choices to customers than just a cloud computing only approach. We are now in a renaissance of business driving what it needs from business applications, and vendors that convince business they can be trusted will be at the center of a new world of cloud, mobile and social computing." This post is really worth a read. You can find the entire post here.

  • Mark Messages As Read in the Outlook 2010 Reading Pane

    - by Matthew Guay
Do you ever feel annoyed that Outlook 2010 doesn’t mark messages as Read as soon as you click and view them in the Reading Pane?  Here we show you how to make Outlook mark them as read as soon as they’re opened. Mark as Read By default, Outlook will not mark a message as read until you select another message.  This can be annoying, because if you read a message and immediately click Delete, it will show up as an unread message in our Deleted Items folder. Let’s change this to make Outlook mark messages as read as soon as we view them in the Reading Pane.  Open Outlook and click File to open Backstage View, and select Options. In Options select Mail on the left menu, and under Outlook panes click on the Reading Pane button. Check the box Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane to make Outlook mark your messages as read when you view them in the Reading Pane.  By default, Outlook will only mark a message read after you’ve been reading it for 5 seconds, though you can change this.  We set it to 0 seconds so our messages would be marked as read as soon as we select them. Click OK in both dialogs, and now your messages will be marked as read as soon as you select them in the reading pane, or soon after, depending on your settings. Conclusion Outlook 2010 is a great email client, but like most programs it has its quirks.  This quick tip can help you get rid of one of Outlook’s annoying features, and make it work like you want it to. And, if you’re still using Outlook 2007, check out our article on how to Mark Messages as Read When Viewed in Outlook 2007. • DNN: Registered Mark changing to Question Mark

    - by coultertech
I am having a problem with registered marks in the HTML module.  We need to use the Registered Trademark symbol (®) but some of them are being changed to question marks.  I can find no ryme or reason behind which change and which remain correct.  I have tried a number of things to fix this issue including the following: Using ® and ® using ® copy and paste of ® in both source and non source and using the "insert special character" from the RTE menu Some of the symbols remain but most revert back to question marks.  If i'm in edit mode, the questions marks change back to the registered mark.  Also sometimes the first time viewing the page not logged in or in view mode, they will look fine. But as soon as I got to edit mode or a new page then go back, they change back to question marks.  I am out of idea as to why this is happening. You can see the page at: http://fasttracsc.twif.net/AboutFastTracSC.aspx  Anywhere you see Fasttrac? it should be Fasttrac® Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Book Review: Inside Windows Communicat?ion Foundation by Justin Smith

    - by Sam Abraham
In gearing up for a new major project, I have taken it upon myself to research and review various aspects of our Microsoft stack of choice seeking new creative ways for us to leverage in our upcoming state-of-the-art solution projected to position us ahead of the competition. While I am a big supporter of search engines and online articles as a quick and usually reliable source of information, I have opted in my investigative quest to actually “hit the books”.  I have also made it a habit to provide quick reviews for material I go over hoping this can be of help to someone who may be looking for items others may have had success using for reference. I have started a few months ago by investigating better ways to implementing, profiling and troubleshooting SQL Server 2008. My reference of choice was Itzik Ben-Gan et al’s “Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2008” series. While it has been a month since my last book review, this by no means meant that I have been sitting idle. It has been pretty challenging to balance research with the continuous flow of projects and deadlines all while balancing that with my family duties which, of course, always comes first. In this post, I will be providing a quick review of my latest reading: Inside Windows Communication Foundation by Justin Smith. This book has been on my reading list for a very long time and I am proud to have finally tackled it. Justin’s book presents a great coverage of WCF internals. His simple, concise and well-worded style has simplified the relatively complex internals of WCF and made it comprehensible. Justin opted to organize the book into three parts: an introduction to WCF, coverage of the Channel Layer and a look at WCF internals at the ServiceModel layer. Part I introduced the concepts and made the case behind WCF while covering a simplified version of WCF’s message patterns, endpoints and contracts. In Part II, Justin provided a thorough coverage of the internals of Messages, Channels and Channel Managers. Part III concluded this nice reading with coverage of Bindings, Contracts, Dispatchers and Clients. While one would not likely need to extend WCF at that low level of the API, an understanding of the inner-workings of WCF is a must to avoid pitfalls mainly caused by misinformation or erroneous assumptions. Problems can quickly arise in high-traffic hosted solutions, but most can be easily avoided with some minimal time investment and education. My next goal is to pay a closer look at WCF from the programmer’s API perspective now that I have acquired a better understanding of its inner working.   Many thanks to the O’Reilly User Group Program and its support of our West Palm Beach Developers’ Group.   Stay tuned for more… All the best, --Sam

  • Weird vps server issue

    - by anon-user0
I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop. Here are some information on the server that might help you help me: root@server:~# uname -a Linux server 2.6.18-308.el5.028stab099.3 #1 SMP Wed Mar 7 15:56:00 MSK 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux - root@server:~# ifconfig -a lo Link encap:Local Loopback LOOPBACK MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) venet0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 inet addr:127.0.0.2 P-t-P:127.0.0.2 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP BROADCAST POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:12515 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:9541 errors:0 dropped:1 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:7191214 (7.1 MB) TX bytes:536726 (536.7 KB) venet0:0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 inet addr:176.31.158.78 P-t-P:176.31.158.78 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP BROADCAST POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1500 Metric:1 - root@server:~# netstat -l Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 *:http-alt *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN tcp6 0 0 [::]:http-alt [::]:* LISTEN tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN Active UNIX domain sockets (only servers) Proto RefCnt Flags Type State I-Node Path unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 9307368 @/com/ubuntu/upstart - htop: http://i.stack.imgur.com/NHKYX.png EDIT: Stressed. mind was not working adding log: root@server:~# less /var/log/syslog Jun 27 05:27:42 server syslogd 1.5.0#6ubuntu1: restart. • ActiveX Content in a local web page, and "the mark of the web"

    - by Daniel Magliola
Hi, I'm trying to make a webpage that people will run from their hard drives, locally, and this page will show a .wmv video (which is also stored locally), using Windows Media Player When I run this, IE shows me the "ActiveX Warning" bar at the top, which is what i'm trying to work around. If I load this from a web server, it loads fine, but from the local disk, it won't. Now, apparently, MS has added the Mark of the Web thingy precisely to work around this problem, however, I've been trying for a while to make it work, and it just didn't. I still get the warning bar. Is the Mark of the Web supposed to still work? Or this is some kind of deprecated thing? Am I doing anything wrong? I'm supposedly following all instructions, it looks like: and I've tried placing it before DOCTYPE, between DOCTYPE and <HTML>, right after <HTML>, in the <HEAD> of the document, etc. Nothing seems to work. I've tried this in IE7 and IE8 Any ideas will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!

  • HTML: Creating tool in HTML which enables to mark on an image

    - by A.Amidi
I am creating an online survey-monkey for conducting a research. Participants are asked to mark the preferred places for building the parking on the map (image). In other words, participants should be able to mark on the image (map) wherever they want and subsequently I could have an access to the saved locations after survey. I am writing to know how I can provide tools for participants to draw or mark on the map by using HTML codes.

  • Different routing rules for a particular user using firewall mark and ip rule

    - by Paul Crowley
Running Ubuntu 12.10 on amd64. I'm trying to set up different routing rules for a particular user. I understand that the right way to do this is to create a firewall rule that marks the packets for that user, and add a routing rule for that mark. Just to get testing going, I've added a rule that discards all packets as unreachable: # ip rule 0: from all lookup local 32765: from all fwmark 0x1 unreachable 32766: from all lookup main 32767: from all lookup default With this rule in place and all firewall chains in all tables empty and policy ACCEPT, I can still ping remote hosts just fine as any user. If I then add a rule to mark all packets and try to ping Google, it fails as expected # iptables -t mangle -F OUTPUT # iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j MARK --set-mark 0x01 # ping www.google.com ping: unknown host www.google.com If I restrict this rule to the VPN user, it seems to have no effect. # iptables -t mangle -F OUTPUT # iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j MARK --set-mark 0x01 -m owner --uid-owner vpn # sudo -u vpn ping www.google.com PING www.google.com (173.194.78.103) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from wg-in-f103.1e100.net (173.194.78.103): icmp_req=1 ttl=50 time=36.6 ms But it appears that the mark is being set, because if I add a rule to drop these packets in the firewall, it works: # iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j DROP -m mark --mark 0x01 # sudo -u vpn ping www.google.com ping: unknown host www.google.com What am I missing? Thanks!

  • Load balancing with multiple gateways

    - by ttouch
I have to different ISPs, each on each own network. The main connects via ethernet and the secondary via wifi. The two networks have no relation at all. I just connect to them simultaneously. The reason I want to load balance between them is to achieve higher Internet speeds. Note: I have no advanced network hardware. • Mark Hurd Believes HR is the Next Major Revenue Driver: Read His Latest LinkedIn Influencer Blog

    - by kristin.jellison
“Most CEOs realize they need to make some dramatic changes in how they recruit people, align and manage performance, make compensation decisions, and optimize talent,” Oracle President Mark Hurd writes. The key issue, he explains, is that many CEOs aren’t equipping their HR teams with the tools and resources they need to unlock employees’ full value. This oversight is keeping HR organizations walled off from revenue generation and customer engagements—two chief sources of value for a company. So what is a CEO to do, given tightening budgets, a sluggish economy and a rapidly changing workforce? Hurd’s answer: invest in a modern Human Capital Management (HCM) system—one equipped with built-in intelligence and predictive analytics capabilities. To find out more about how to deliver effective HCM transformations, read Mark Hurd’s full article, “How CEOs Can Transform HR into a Revenue Driver” and visit the Oracle HCM Cloud Service site. We also encourage you to log into your LinkedIn account and “Follow” Mark to receive future posts. Share the link to his blog with your networks via Twitter, Facebook and other social media channels. • exclamation mark for sitemaps in webmastertools when resubmited

    - by Jayapal Chandran
Hi, I have three sitemaps submitted to webmastertools. In that one has very few links and was accepted. It showed a green tick. The other two had around 150 links. They had been accepted in think yet webmastertools displays the exclamation mark. I think i saw this already but what confused was my hosting was blocking frequent bots recently by using a firewall and just now they added googles ip range in their witelist. and then my robots and sitemaps were read by webmastertools. But two sitemaps shows exclamation. I hope it is nothing to do with the above problem. What are all the reasons and where can i see the reason for that exclamation mark.? Here is the screen shot.

  • Trying to reconcile global ip address and Vhosts

    - by puk
I have been using my local machine as a web server for a while, and I have several websites set up locally on my machine, all with similar Vhost files like the one seen here /etc/apache2/sites-available/john.smith.com: <VirtualHost *:80> RewriteEngine on RewriteOptions Inherit ServerAdmin www-data@john.smith.com ServerName john.smith.com ServerAlias www.john.smith.com DocumentRoot /home/john/smith # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. LogLevel warn LogFormat "%v %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b" comonvhost CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access.log comonvhost </VirtualHost> then I set up the /etc/hosts file like so for every Vhost: 192.168.1.100 www.john.smith.com john.smith.com 192.168.1.100 www.jane.smith.com jane.smith.com 192.168.1.100 www.joe.smith.com joe.smith.com 192.168.1.100 www.jimbob.smith.com jimbob.smith.com Now I am hosting my friend's website until he gets a permanent domain. I have port forwarding set up to redirect port 80 to my machine, but I don't understand how the global ip fits into all of this. Do I for example use the following web site addresses (assume global ip is 12.34.56.789): 12.34.56.789.john.smith 12.34.56.789.jane.smith 12.34.56.789.joe.smith 12.34.56.789.jimbob.smith
