  • How to implement UIViewController rotation in response to orientation changes?

    My app has about 10 different UIViewControllers, just one of which I want to switch to landscape mode if the device is rotated. (All the rest, I want to keep in portrait.) In order to implement rotation on that one view, I needed to implement its controller's 'shouldAutorotate' method and return YES. Since this view is accessed via a navigation controller, I also needed to create a subclass of UINavigationController that implements 'shouldAutorotate' and return YES. This solution works, but too well. I find that all of the UIViewControllers I push onto my subclass of UINavigationController respond to rotation, even if I implement 'shouldAutorotate' and return NO. (Remember: I only want one particular UIViewController to respond to rotation, not every one in the navigation controller's stack.) So, my question is: how do I best do this? All the solutions I can come up with seem 1) cumbersome, and 2) worse, don't seem to work. Thanks very much.

  • C# .Net Serial DataReceived Event response too slow for high-rate data.

    Hi, I have set up a SerialDataReceivedEventHandler, with a forms based program in VS2008 express. My serial port is set up as follows: 115200, 8N1 Dtr and Rts enabled ReceivedBytesThreshold = 1 I have a device I am interfacing with over a BlueTooth, USB to Serial. Hyper terminal receives the data just fine at any data rate. The data is sent regularly in 22 byte long packets. This device has an adjustable rate at which data is sent. At low data rates, 10-20Hz, the code below works great, no problems. However, when I increase the data rate past 25Hz, there starts to recieve mulitple packets on one call. What I mean by this is that there should be a event trigger for every incoming packet. With higher output rates, I have tested the buffer size (BytesToRead command) immediatly when the event is called and there are multiple packets in the buffer then. I think that the event fires slowly and by the time it reaches the code, more packes have hit the buffer. One test I do is see how many time the event is trigger per second. At 10Hz, I get 10 event triggers, awesome. At 100Hz, I get something like 40 event triggers, not good. My goal for data rate is 100HZ is acceptable, 200Hz preferred, and 300Hz optimum. This should work because even at 300Hz, that is only 52800bps, less than half of the set 115200 baud rate.     I'm using acegi 0.5.2 and enabled OpenID support. I would like to know how to accesss the URL (or username) returned by a provider (i.e. Google, Yahoo!).     I have run into an exasperating problem getting a Java service client to communicate successfully with a WCF service. I have overcome many hurdles, and I believe that this is my last one. The problem boils down to how Java Axis + WSS4J seem to handle xml namespaces. The Java platform seem to be very rigid in what they expect for xml namespace prefixes, and as such, do not understand the WCF reply messages. My problem in a nutshell is as follows. I am wondering if there is any simple way to transform an xml document from one set of namespaces to another set using C#, .NET, and the System.Xml namespace. I've poked around with XmlNamespaceManager a bit, but it does not seem to fully support what I need...or at least, I have been unable to find any really useful examples, and am not fully sure how it works. I am trying to avoid having to write some heavy-duty process to handle this manually myself, as I do not want to drastically impact the performance of our services when called by a Java Axis/WSS4J client.

    I'm working on a large computer science school project using java and SQlite. After finding out that the zentus.org wrapper errors on databases with ON DELETE and ON UPDATE clauses set, I have changed to the other wrapper found at http://www.ch-werner.de/javasqlite. However, I find the documentation lacking somewhat when trying to get an overview on how it works and how to use it, and the function descriptions are very very short, and you have to scan through every function and somewhat guess how they work and what they do. I wasn't able to find any guides on google on how to use it. My question: Does anyone know a link for a guide or tutorial for the ch-werner.de/javasqlite wrapper, or else can give me a basic code example, or give a quick overview of querying the database and the most used functions, and how to use them?

  • Servlet IOException when streaming a Byte Array

    I occasionally get an IOException from a Servlet I have that writes a byte array to the outputstream in order to provide a file download capability. This download servlet has a reasonable amount of traffic (100k hits a month) and this exception occurs rarely, around 1-2 times a month. I have tried recreating the exception by using the exact same Base64 String and no exception is raised and the Servlet behaves as designed. Is this IO Exception being caused by something outside my applications control? For example a network issue or the user resetting the connection? I have tried to google the cause of an IOException at this point in the stack but to no avail. The environment is running Tomcat 5.5 on CentOS 5.3 with an Apache HTTP Server acting as a proxy using proxy_ajp.     I'm interested in whether there is a way to monitor HTTP(S) traffic on an Android phone? What I would like to do is to be able to retrieve all URLs that have been accessed on the phone's browser. I thought that there would be a browser intent for that, but have not seen anything - given I'm green, maybe I just did not know where to look? I followed the question and answer here, but it works only for hyperlinks which were clicked by the user, however I need to catch all URLs - including the ones typed in by the user. Basically I need to know about every single URL that was opened in the web browser. Can I register some kind of a handler with the browser? Is something like that feasible at all?

    Hi all, A service I have in WCF occasionally goes down due a problem with a COM component. While I am troubleshooting I would like to setup another host to make regular calls to this service to monitor availability. It is slightly more complicated that a simple HTTP call though as the service is secured by SSL and WCF authentication (username / password). I'd also like to be able to parse successful calls to see if they return warning / fail states from my code. Would you recommend any monitoring providers for this or is it beyond the simple monitoring they normally provide? Regards Ryan

How can I make it stream and play as it's still downloading? Or is this up to the client/receiver application to manage?

    Hi all, on my search for a fast but comfortable web server I dropped into the homepage of EmbedThis(TM) AppWeb(TM) HTTP server. This one has 2 licencse models, GPLv2 and a commercial one with support. On the first view it looks good: the footprint is not too big, it is fast and it has a lot of configuration otions. The most important thing would be a fast PHP execution using a built-in PHP library. Unfortunately this PHP library doesn't include every option, especially "gettext" which one I need for I18N. My target platform is Linux on an embedded device with an ARM based CPU. Does anybody have experiences with the issues mentioned above? Kind regards, Andi

    I have a groovy/grails application that needs to serve images It works fine on my dev box, the image is returned properly. I just moved the .war over and run it on a different machine. (Isn't Java supposed to be write once, run everywhere?) Any ideas? An "encoding" problem? The code is sent to the response like this: response.contentType = "image/jpeg"; response.outputStream << out; Here's the code that locates the image on an internal application server and re-serves the image. On my production machine, the binary bytes in the image are re-encoded/escaped as if they were UTF-8 (see Michael's explanation below). It works fine on my development machine.

Web browser (tested on IE8, Firefox 3.5.2, Opera 10) shows file length before I start download the file. When I run this code on remote IIS7, web browser doesn't shows file length. File length is unknown. Why I don't get file length when this code runs under IIS7?
