• RPC Server Unavailable When Trying to Join W2003 Server to W2003 Active Directory Domain

  I have an Active Directory Domain with a Windows 2003 Standard SP2 Server as the DC. When trying to join an additional Windows 2003 Standard SP2 server to the domain I get message "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain 'My Domain'. The RPC Server is unavailable. The computer is actually added to the Active Directory Computers. I can even right-click and Manage it. I can access file shares from the DC on the other server and vice versa. I can ping the DC from this server and ping the server from the DC using the computer name. The time on both server is the same more or less to the second. RPC service is running on both servers. I can join other computers to the domain and there are no other issues with the domain. Windows Firewall disabled on both computers. NetSetup.LOG shows: NetpSetNetloginDomainCache: DSEnumerateDomainTrustsW failed 0x6ba I looked up this WIN32 Error Code: It is RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE.

• Weird problem with connection from putty to ubuntu server via SSH

  Hello. I have an Ubuntu Server 9.10 box with sshd configured. I have two computers with Windows 7 professional and putty installed. Day ago, both computers was able to connect ubuntu server both via putty and plink. I have installed sun-java6-jre on ubuntu server, and now have a weird problem. First Windows 7 computer can still connect with both putty GUI and command-line plink. Second computer can connect via putty gui, but if i issue plink command that works perfectly on first computer: plink www.hostname.tk -i c:\users\username\documents\key\private.ppk I get login prompt, enter same username as on first computer, and receive following weird error message: bash: www.hostname.tk: command not found I can't see any difference between my Windows 7 computers :(. The ppk key used is same (i copied it multiple times both ways). hostname and username are same. Anyone have any ideas why such thing happens and what can i do in order to troubleshoot and fix it?

• gigabit network with adsl modem

  Hi, i would like to build a gigabit network to connect the different computers at my home. I already have an 100Mb adsl router/modem but i have an hard time to find a 1000Mb one, so i came up with the idea of using a normal 1000Mb router or switch to put between the adsl modem and the computers. So i only use the adsl modem to connect to the internet and the gigabit router as dhcp to connect the different computers. But to get to the question. Will the 100Mb adsl router slow down my network? Will data travel like pc gigabit router computer or pc gigabit router adsl router gigabit router pc. My gut says it will go like in the first option but i have seen network hardware do some weird stuff. What do you think?

• Make browsing safe for porn surfers

  At several places I've done some work at, I have a suspicion that some of the executives browse porn on their work computers. It appears this porn surfing has lead to virus infections on their computers despite the presence of an anti-virus. Filtering theses specific users' browsing is not an option, so what would be my next best solution be? I put Firefox + Adblock pro on their computers. I'm tempted to add NoScript, but I'm worried they'll start calling when noscript interferes with browsing on legit websites. Is there anything else I can due to mitigate this risk?

  I have an external hard drive, and I wish to grant permissions on some files to users from 2 different computers without having to hook it up to the 2 different computers. I know the SID of the user on the other computer, I'd like to know if and how I can grant permissions to files using the SID. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bits, and "The Other" computer Win 7 Home Premium 64 bits, they are not in a domain, but separate computers on a home network (not even same homegroup).   Rather than having all of my computers go out to the internet and download their Automatic Updates, I am seriously considering building a WSUS server. That is, a Windows Update server. I have read some articles, and they have been helpful, but not complete. The following is what I have gleaned are the steps I need to take: Commission a computer to be the server with Windows 2003 Server. Install the WSUS package(s) and select the type of updates to check for. Configure the rest of my computers to be clients of this server. Set the clients to receive updates from the server. My questions are as follows: Does the server have to run Windows 2003 Server, or will Windows XP Professional work? Where do I download the WSUS packages from? • Windows 7: Server disappearing from Network window

  I am running a small (three computer) network on a Windows Server 2003 domain. All of the computers were just upgraded to Windows 7. Since the upgrade, the icon for the domain server periodically disappears from the Network window on all three computers. It doesn't happen at the same time on all computers--the icon typically disappears from one machine, but not the others. And it's not always the same computer. The network connection is still there--I can type \\myserver and get to the network shares. It's simply the icon that's disappearing. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions for a fix? So I have one modem with 2 routers that make up my network. Everything works fine the only problem I am having is being pinged by other computers in the network. • Problems with Black Box KVM

  I just recieved a shipment of equipment orderd by my predicessor that includes brand new Dell Optiplex 990 computers, with standard mice and keyboards. Also included were Black Box ServSwitch Secure KVMs. I've worked with KVMs before and hypothetically they should be the easiest thing in the world to deal with, plug it all together, push the button, go. However, for the life of me I can't get the computers to recognize the mouse or keyboard when plugged into the KVM. We've seen this with multiple KVMs across the order. Any one know what I'm missing? Computers are all Dell 990 with Windows 7.

  I want to set up a fictional network configuration for a school in my neighborhood. They have about 50 computers altogether, 2X20 in computer rooms for students and another 10 scattered around for various professors. They should all access the internet through a dedicated Linux router machine. What they would like is to have domain names for those three computer groups. Lab1, Lab2 and Professors. The computers in Lab2 and Lab1 should have static ip and should all be named by numbers. So there should be 1@Lab1, 2@Lab1.... etc. And the Professors network should have a DHCP, with authentication. Is it an ok solution to have all these functions on a single server? (The one which will be used as a router) Do I have to set a local DNS for domain naming? Do the host names for Lab computers have to be set on the clients, or can they be automatically assigned?

• afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

  I use Cygwin as my main development environment on both my home and work computers. In order to share files between the two computers, I use Dropbox, which is installed in the following folder on both computers: c:\cygwin\home\dvanaria\dropbox Everything works great, except for one thing. When I'm working on my home computer and do an ls -l on any directory, all the files show up as owned by dvanaria of group Users. But when I work from my work computer, an ls -l shows all files as being owned by Administrators and of group Domain Users. I know Cygwin uses some kind of mapping between Windows users and permissions to the /etc/passwd file. But to be honest I have no idea how this file works or how it maps to Windows under Cygwin. Could anyone help figure this out? The main problem is that I can't edit any files when using my work computer, only read them.

Then just right click on wan nic and select share internet connection. All office computers were assigned with an IP address 192.168.0.XXX and Gateway 192.168.0.1 (server). Now I have to open port and portfoward it from computer 192.168.0.190 (static ip, manual). Before enabling "RRA" I had to unshare internet connection (wan interface) and was able to setup network. Now how do I setup a network within "RRA" and share internet with private network? • Losing WLAN connections but maintaining internet connections on WIndows 7 Workgroup

  I have 4 computers all running Windows 7 networked in a Work group through Billion 7404vgp-m wireless router. All drivers and firmware for wireless adapters and router are up to date. Windows Firewall and Defender disabled. Disconnected ipv6. Running Nod 32 anti virus software. All have own static IP address 192.XXX.X.XXX. When I Reset the router all computers have Internet and LAN access for about 1 hour and then they will lose the LAN connection but maintain Internet connection. Resetting wireless adapters or restarting computers does nothing to fix this but resetting router will. What is causing this? How do I fix it?

  I'm trying to create really simple "cluster" from 2 multicore computers using openmpi. My problem is that I can't find any tutorials on that matter. I don't want to use torque because it's not necessary in my case nevertheless all tutorials give configuration details either about torque or mpd (which doesn't exist in openmpi implementation). Could you give me some tips or links to appropriate manuals? Steps I've already completed: - openmpi installation - network configuration (computers see each other) - ssh password-less login to second computer I tried using machinefiles without further configuration and with just 2 IPs in it. But jobs don't seem to start at all after initialization part. (MPI seems to work because I'm able to scatter jobs on multiple cores of both computers without communication between them).

  Previously I could connect perfectly with my iphone to my web server on 192.168.1.* but since I got a MacBook, I now can't even connect my iphone to either of the computers.   I'm on a office network and there are around 12 PCs that are connected to a switch and then to a Prolink Router. Now the Internet connection is very slow and I'm the one who manage all the computers. I want to monitor bandwidth usage of each computer on the LAN. how can I achieve this using my computer.   I recently ran into a problem where I was setting up a 5 person LAN. I enabled filesharing on the main computer and wanted to allow the other 4 computers to have access. 2 computers were able to access \expample without any issues. 1 computer would only connect if I uses the ip address \x.x.x.x\data. • How to make Logitech Anywhere MX work in Ubuntu 12.X?

  I have a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse (wireless), when I connect it to the computer it doesn't work. The mouse works in other computers with Windows and with Fedora 17, but it doesn't work in two different computers with Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10.
