    I have tried rectifying the code below. But I am not able to find a solution. After executing the code, firebug says "document.getElementById(haystack.value) is null". I tried if(document.getElementById(haystack).value ==null) but it was of no use. Is I'm wrong in the way I returning?

  • javascript location.hash refreshing in IE

    I need to modify the hash, remove it after certain processing takes place so that if the user refreshes they do not cause the process to run again. This works fine in FF, but it seems that IE is reloading every time I try to change the hash. I think it is related to other things that are loading on the page, though I am not certain. I have an iframe that loads (related to the process) as well as some scripts that are still being fetched in the parent window. I can't seem to figure out a good way to change the hash after all the loading completes. And, at the same time am not even positive that it is related to the loading. Any ideas on how to solve this?

  • Write a serverside c++/openGL App, that is accessible via JavaScript

    Hi, I am currently having an idea where I want to save an image from a c++/openGL application on demand from a browser. So basically I would like to run the application itself on the server and have a simple communication layer like this: JS - tell application to do calculations (and maybe pass a string or some simple data) application - tell JS when finished and maybe send a link, text or something as simple as that. I don't really have alot of experience with webservers and as such don't know if that is possible at all (it's just my naive thinking). And note: I am not talking about a webGL application, I just want to have simple communication between a c++ serverside application, and the user. Any ideas how to do that? Thanks alot!

    I'm writing a Firefox addon that is triggered whenever a word is highlighted. However I need a script that detects when a word is highlighted, and I'm stuck. An example would be nytimes.com (when you're reading an article and you highlight a word, the reference icon pops up). However the nytimes.com script is super complex. I'm 16 and not much of a programmer, so that is definitely way out of my league.

I want to extract out each line and put the text values in a variable for each type. Not sure what would be the best way to do it. Use .split('<br>') ? then use .split('&nbsp;') to separate the state from the zip same with city and state I am a little lost here.   • Asynchronous javascript issue

    I am trying to create a function which takes values from various html elements of the page to create a string and pass on to a variable. now this works great for all browsers except IE 8 and 9. In order to make function calls to our back-end php code we've implemented something called an ActionProxy like this: function ActionProxy(action, input, callback){ $.post("ActionProxy.php?method="+action, { data: input}, function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest){ //return data.ResponseWhatever } }); The problem we're having is that using data outside the ActionProxy is impossible due to variable scope limitations (we assume), setting var res = data.ResponseWhatever or return data.ResponseWhatever is pretty futile. How would one handle these responses most appropriately so that functions calling the actionproxy can access the response values?

    Is there a way to figure out what the top domain for the hostname of the current page is? The problem I have is that the script could be on .com domain, or in an international domain like .co.uk So for: jobs.telegraph.co.uk - top domain is:telegraph.co.uk jobs.nytimes.com - top domain is nytimes.com The problem is that location.hostname , and the document.domain give the entire domain. One route is to have a list of all TLDs (too much to carry around) and parse based on that. Another route was if 2 characters after last ".", than internationaltion - hence last two are the TLD, but that does not hold true for all international domains.

Also is there a way I can send the tags to a "class" attribute instead of "name". It seems to not work in Safari.

    Is there any solution for secure user registration and authentication without SSL? With "secure" I mean safe from passive eavesdropping, not from man-in-the-middle (I'm aware that only SSL with signed certificate will reach this degree of security). The registration (password setup, i.e. exchanging of pre-shared keys) must be also secured without SSL (this will be the hardest part I guess). I prefer established and well tested solution. If possible, I don't want to reinvent the wheel and make up my own cryptographic protocols. Thanks in advance.

  • How to save text to a div using JavaScript onmouseout

    Good morning all. I have a div that I'm able to save text to when I click a save button but what I would like is if the text would just automatically save on an onmouseout event. For example: I have a div and two buttons (Save and Cancel). The user is currently able to mouse over the current text data inside the div, click on the text and they can then edit said text. The only way they can save this text is by clicking the save button. Is there a way to use onmouseout to save the text so that the user simply has to click and edit the text, then click away and have it saved? Thanks!
